• Ubuntu 12.10 Unity Dash transparency problem

  I have just upgraded my Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 and there is following problem. When I press super button to show Unity Dash I get wrong background image behind the dash box. Especially I can see part of the bottom of the screen. Also when I set transparency to top panel the background behind is not correct. Here is an example with Mc Duck picture: Unity Mc Duck example Do you have any ideas whats wrong? • Ubuntu 12.04 Touchscreen Calibration

  I have a machine with Ubuntu 12.04 installed, with dual monitor, via VGA and DVI Interface. The monitor is one touch screen and the other one is regular LCD Monitor. The touch screen is made in China with some unknown brand, and I am using eGalax Driver. The touch screen is now detected and works, but i need to do some calibration since it does not correctly perform click on touch. The problem is, when I’m using xinput_calibrator, it shows 4 crosses to be clicked on, because I’m using dual monitor, the crosses is now show 2 on the touch screen (touchable) and the others on the other monitor which is regular non-touch monitor. Please help, thank you.

• Any good web frameworks for asynchronous multiplayer games?

  I'm trying to craft a site for web-based (original) board games, and my client (currently written in Actionscript, but that's highly fungible) works fine - I can play solitaire games in the client - but it has nothing to connect to. What I'm looking for is a server framework for handling accounts/authentication and game tracking: something that would let players log in, show them a list of their current games, let them invite friends to new games, let them make moves in the games they have open, etc. I'm flexible on language; obviously I'm going to have to write a lot of server code to handle the actual game logic, but that should be straightforward enough. I'm more concerned with how to handle the user (and game) DBs, though suggestions for a good server framework for communicating with the DBs (and serving up, most likely, JSON for client communications) are also welcome. Right now my leaning is towards Ruby (probably with Rails) but as far as I can determine it would be a pretty good chunk of effort to set up the necessary databases, so having something even higher-level would be really useful to me.

  In comparison with an open source license and requesting donations, is a free-for-open-source-projects (or free for non-commercial developers) closed source and otherwise commercial project likely to get more license fees? Or just to alienate potential users? Assume the project has value to programmers - I'm looking for generalizations here, though specific examples comparing existing projects will be very interesting. What I have in mind involves code generating programming utilities. And one issue I can think of, either way, is a near total inability to enforce any license restrictions. After all, I can't go around the internet demanding that everyone show me their source code just in case!

• Why are some bugs I'm affected by and subscribed to missing in my launchpad bug list?

  I have a long list of bugs in my launchpad account but some bugs I set to being affected by and being subscribed to are not showing up in that list. Even when I change the options of bugs to show I don't get these bugs.First I thought these were bugs being set to 'wishlist' but some of them are showing up in the list. Does anyone else know that he/she is subscribed to a bug he/she doesn't find in his bug list? And maybe there's also someone who knows how to fix this.

  This question already has an answer here: How to diagnose a search engine ranking drop? 5 answers I modified a site recently : - I added many google analytics events, to better understand user behaviour. - I added also two buttons on almost all the pages of the site. Those buttons show modal-views (I am using bootstrap) with questions about user opinion. This modals views are on almost all pages of the site. After this modification the ranking of the site decreased on google search from the second place to the seconde page :( Is it the events-collected or the model-views added ? If the model-views are the reason, then how to better do similar surveys ? Did you have please similar experience, or explanation to this ? Perhaps it is the effect of panda4 update. In this cas, what can I look for to improve the site. How to debug the problem/reasons ?

• U1 Music Streaming: Is it possible to have album cover art for OGG files?

  Just started trying out the U1 music streaming service and so far very pleased. The one issue I have that could be a deal-breaker when it comes time to pay up is that half of my collection is OGG Vorbis and I cannot find a way to show album art for OGG files. I already tried adding a cover.jpg to the folder and embedding the image via easyTAG (works for MP3 but not OGG). Does anybody have a solution besides transcoding them all to MP3? Will this likely be supported in future?

• No Sound in HTML5 and Google Chrome after update to 13.10

  After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10 i have no sound for HTML5 players in Google Chrome Browser. Firefox works. Flash Players are working. No sound on Youtube when using HTML5. No sound on vimeo (They have html5 player as standard). When I open the soundapplication, google doesn't show up when I try to play a html5 video. But it shows up, when playing a Flash Video. • Podcast with AJI about iOS development coming from a .NET background

  I talked with Jeff and John from AJI Software the other day about developing for the iOS platform. We chatted about learning Xcode and Objective-C, provisioning devices and the app publishing process. We all have a .NET background and made lots of comparisons between the two platforms/ecosystems/fanbois. They even let me throw in a plug for Christian Radio Locator. Jeff was my first contact with the Kansas City .NET community. It was probably about 10 years ago. He pushed me to talk more (and rescued me from my first talk that bombed) and blog more. One time a group of us took a 16 hour car trip to South Carolina for a code camp and live podcasted the whole thing. • Debugging Windows

  After installing VS 2008 on a new PC I noticed that the Autos and Locals windows did not show up when debugging. So I went to the logical place to find them View/Other Windows. No luck they were not there. I use VS every day but like a lot of folks I only need to install it every few years, usually with a new PC. So I forgot where they were. Finding them is easy, just start debugging a project and go to Debug/Windows. The Autos and Locals windows along with the others will be there. • Cannot read from 2nd SATA data drive connected via SATA docking station

  Installed 10.10 this week on dual boot system. Everything else works fine but cannot read from 2nd SATA drive with all my data. Same drive works normally when booted to Windows XP. Interesting part is that I can see the drive in Ubuntu Disk Manager, can read all its attributes, can test it, shows up in Disk Manager, Storage Device Manager and Mount Manager, and can mount it, even change attributes; it appears healthy but does not show up in "Computer" or anywhere else that it can be accessed. The drive is connected via an external e-SATA docking station which is connected to a SATA port on the motherboard.

Students will turn their spare time focus to finals and getting home for the summer. • failure to restore backup from deja dup

  I had ubuntu 12.04.1 and I made a backup with deja dup of the home folder in an external hard disk. Today I installed ubuntu 14.4 and erased the ubuntu 12.04.1. Now I'm trying to restore my back up. First it ask where is the back up to restore, then it ask of what date to restore, and then it starts, after a wile ask for the password. I put the password and it says Restoring and stays in preparing with out any advancement. Don't show any error, just stays preparing. The window of details is in white. I had all my documents... it's very bad for me, all my personal data... lost? Thanks for any help, Layla.

• Changing default application

  Hey i have recently installed Sublime text 2 and i must say it's one of the best text editors i've ever used or even seen in use. So i managed to install everything and added to the unity menu and also change all the entries of gedit.desktop to sublime.desktop and it works just fine for most files but i realised that some files still open in gedit, for example php files, i checked the default list for php but there isn't anything in there. So how would i set the default for opening php files? Update:Also Sublime doesn't show up in them properties menu where i can usually select the default program. Thanks for the help. I'm using 12.10.

  How many times have you needed to show a video during a presentation? Using YouTube and PowerPoint, it is now possible. Insert a YouTube Video Into a PowerPoint Presentation in Office 2013 Go ahead and open PowerPoint and switch over to the Insert tab. Then click on Video, and then Online Video… If this is your first time inserting a video from YouTube, you will need to add it as a provider from the bottom left hand side of the dialog. Once added, you will be able to enter a search term. You can then simply select a video and hit the insert button. That’s all there is to it. Remember Videos come with their own set of editing options, so be sure to take a look around.

  I want to give my notebook to guests of my little Hotel as an extra service. I love the Ubuntu guest-account and I think that this is the best possible way to help my guests get free internet-access. I found out how to "design" their user-accounts with /etc/skel, but unfortunately I have no clue, how to show them a small introduction to the system and a kind of user-agreement "contract" when they login. I read of xmessage, but this is too minimalistic. I'd like to implement some pictures. Does anyone have any idea of how to make this possible? Would it be possible that the user is logged out automatically if he rejects the user-agreement? Thank you so much in advance, Steve.

• Lens showing only music after zeitgeist removal

  I can't get anything to show up in the Dash (lens?) other than music (no applications , no files) . This began when I removed zeitgeist. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, but still not working. I've also installed unity-place-files and unity-place-applications as suggested elsewhere. Under processes that are running I don't see zeitgeist.. (the original reason I wiped it out was because it was sucking up CPU). Ubuntu 12.04 Thanks in advance.
