• Bastion on ubuntu 12.04 64bit black screen

  I just downloaded the Humblebundle with bastion. After installing Bastion and starting it up, only a blank screen shows the the mouse arrow. I can here the sound fine. I read a message board that recommended starting it with -windowed -x 1280 -y 720 which does not work. I am on ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, with a intel 3000 integrated graphics card. Does anyone know how I can get this to work properly? thank you.

• xna networking, dedicated server possible?

  Hi I want to release my xna game to the XBOX platform, but I'm worried about the networking limitations. Basically, I want to have a dedicated (authoritative) server, but it sounds like that is not possible. Which is why I'm wondering about: a.) Using port 80 web calls to php-driven database b.) Using an xbox as a master-server (is that possible?) I like the sound of [b] , because I could write my own application to run on the xbox, and I would assume other users could connect to it similar to the p2p architecture. Anyone able to expand on theory [b] above? or [a] as worst-case scenario?

• Host Matching Interview Tips?

  So I've gotten past the technical interviews for a company, and now I'm having an interview with my potential host for an internship during the summer. What are some tips for interviews like these? I know they're not really technical, but I'm not sure what exactly they are meant to gauge. Any tips on what to say, how to show my interest in the project, questions I should ask, etc.? Edit: Side question: What's a good synonym for the word "interesting" or "interested"? I find that I use those words a bit too often (e.g. "I'm definitely interested in working on the front-end!" or "Yeah, that sounds really interesting, I would love learning more about it." or "Those all sound really interesting, I'm definitely interested in all of them!", etc.)... but I can't seem to find any good synonyms. (Online sites don't really give me good synonyms.) Any ideas?

  I have an old Dell computer and I want to switch from windows xp and install the new ubuntu. I have tried multiple times to download it via cd-r but keep getting the same error message: unrecoverable error. The error happens after the menu which lists try ubuntu, install ubuntu, etc.It only gets as far as the Screen with a toolbar on the top that includes power, sound, and two arrows. That is when the message displays. switching to desktop version to find what the problem is( or something like that.) What is going wrong?

• How can I continue playing music after hibernating my laptop?

  I have a laptop with ubuntu 12.04, I want to be able to play music with it while it is on hybernate mode, the problem is: when I close my laptop it goes to hybernate (I know this is a default and I know where to change this, but I can't change whether the system is playing music during hybernate or not) while I'm playing music, it stops the music as well (this sounds logical because hybernate mode is for saving power, but I'd like my computer to continue playing music). Is there a possibility of changing this? If not, can there be an update or something which creates a tiny option in the hybernate or the sound menu for this?

  I was looking at this post How to create a screencast? which mentions some of the Video Recorders (Screencast) that I was looking for but some of them are more than 8 months old with not one single update made to them. Am looking for a Screencast that is at least update recently and that I know that if I keep using it I could count on it being updated. The most important part is video recording but sound is good too. Maybe a windows area, mouse tracking, etc.. But it needs to be up to date and not abandoned or very old. And of course that works in 11.10 and has in mind to work in 12.04.

• How can I adjust system volume from within XBMC?

  While running XBMC, I can adjust the volume of the XBMC application itself. However, this volume is limited by the current system volume. For example, if the system volume is at 80% and XBMC is at 100%, I am effectively at 80% and cannot go higher. Or if the sound is too soft and needs a boost, I would normally increase the system volume beyond 100%. XBMC takes over the whole screen, so the system volume is not accessible. Pressing the Super key brings up the dash and top menu, but clicking on it is difficult and inconsistent, and very quickly XBMC takes over the screen again. How can I adjust the system volume without having to quit XBMC?

• Gnome-Screenshot error in Ubuntu GNOME 13.10

  I recently installed Ubuntu GNOME 13.10 (it came with GNOME 3.8, but I replaced by GNOME 3.10) and after a few problems, the only one I couldn't solve was the screenshot problem. When I press the PrtSc key, nothing happens. No sound, no nothing. When I execute it via Terminal by writing "Gnome-Screenshot", it does work and saves in my Pictures folder. I have already tried to re-install the program, but still didn't work. I also tried to create a shortcut with this command line, but still nothing happend. I tried to replace the PrtSc key by another one, just for make sure the problem wasn't in the key, and it still failed. Can anyone help me?

  Are there any platforms / sites where people can share expertise in game development and where you can share (either payed or free) digital content (like images, sounds, animations but also frameworks or libraries) to be used in games? I'd also like the possibility to contact users and request specific pieces of content. I'd like to start out as an indie developer and have programming skills but I lack the experience and time to create ingame artwork and sound. Is there any site where I could locate other people (artists mostly) who would want to work on a game for free? I know I can get most technical questions answered on this site and I have some contacts but I'm affraid this won't be enough.

• Can't make the Multimedia keys work in LXDE

  I've tried to edit the configuration file in ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml however the changes don't take effect, i still can't use the keys. The LXDE wiki shows that after finding that my keyboard sends the correct standardized keyboard events i should go and edit the file to my liking, the keyboard does send the correct events and the keys are properly identified yet nothing happens. Since LXDE doesn't come with a sound preferences option i have installed xfce4-mixer. I too have a netbook running Lubuntu and it's media keys are working fine, i don't know if what i installed has had something to do here?. I also installed xfce4-volumed volume keys daemon from synaptic but to no avail, still nothing. How can i make the multimedia keys of my keyboard work in LXDE with xfce4-mixer Edit: Here is my lxde-rc.xml file

• JDK bug migration: components and subcomponents

  One subtask of the JDK migration from the legacy bug tracking system to JIRA was reclassifying bugs from a three-level taxonomy in the legacy system, (product, category, subcategory), to a fundamentally two-level scheme in our customized JIRA instance, (component, subcomponent). In the JDK JIRA system, there is technically a third project-level classification, but by design a large majority of JDK-related bugs were migrated into a single "JDK" project. In the end, over 450 legacy subcategories were simplified into about 120 subcomponents in JIRA. The 120 subcomponents are distributed among 17 components. A rule of thumb used was that a subcategory had to have at least 50 bugs in it for it to be retained. Below is a listing the component / subcomponent classification of the JDK JIRA project along with some notes and guidance on which OpenJDK email addresses cover different areas. Eventually, a separate incidents project to host new issues filed at bugs.sun.com will use a slightly simplified version of this scheme. The preponderance of bugs and subcomponents for the JDK are in library-related areas, with components named foo-libs and subcomponents primarily named after packages. While there was an overall condensation of subcomponents in the migration, in some cases long-standing informal divisions in core libraries based on naming conventions in the description were promoted to formal subcomponents. For example, hundreds of bugs in the java.util subcomponent whose descriptions started with "(coll)" were moved into java.util:collections.   My brother has come up with an interesting business idea that could be commercialised. For over a month I have been creating the foundation for SaaS. I have been treating this as commercial project so designing using patterns and best practices. One of the reasons I want to include this in my Resume is my full time job doesn't involve current trendy ASP.Net technologies (e.g Linq/Entity Relationships, jQuery, ASP.Net MVC 3, Silverlight, etc) so the resume lacks impact. In my full time job I work on a 7 year old well designed product and since our data and web layers work well it would be stupid to re-engineer them only because recruiters think Linq, ASP.Net MVC and jQuery are cool. How can I include my personal project in Resume so that it doesn't sound like experiment or quick'n'dirty pet project? Many thanks.

  I am trying to downgrade my distro. The thing is, I have spent some few hours organising my music library and I do not want to lose my database. I have checked 'write meta data to files'. And so, my understanding is, that if I just import those same mp3s into a new library, those files will be arranged in the same order in the library. But this doesn't sound like a safe enough option. I'm moving from 11.10 to 10.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated. newbie
