• Search tool that uses a grammar rather than regular expression?

  Are there any search tools that allow you to set up a simple token/grammar parsing system that work similar to regular expressions? What we want to do is search our ColdFusion code for queries that do not have cfqueryparams in them. A regular expression gets a bit tough in this situation because I can't keep track of the start tags while looking for something else before getting an end tag. It seems like a parsing system would work more accurately.

• kill a process in bash

  How do I kill a process which is running in bash - for example, suppose I open a file: $ gedit file.txt is there any way within the command prompt to close it? This example is fairly trivial, since I could just close the window, but it seems to come up a bit, particularly when I mistype commands. Also is there any way to escape an executable which is running? This probably has the same solution, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks

  Possible Duplicate: How to get the Nth digit of an integer with bit-wise operations? I spent more than one day trying to solve this problem but I couldn't find a solution. I have a function named get_nth_digit(int x, int pos);. int x is a number given by the user, int pos is the number that represents the position of the digit in the number x the user wants to get. How can I do this? Can anyone help?

• What reasons are there NOT to use OpenID?

  You see a fair bit (in the Geek community anyway) about OpenID. It seems like a good idea. I'm developing a website that will be targeted at a somewhat less geeky audience (but not quite Mom and Pops either) so I have to wonder if OpenID is going to be "too hard" for some audiences. What do you think? That aside, are there any other technical or non-technical reasons NOT to use OpenID?

  I am working on rolling a bit of my own version of linux for my real time car application. I plan to base it off of minimal ubuntu (only needsd 32 MB of memory). I am not the most skilled person with linux so not really sure how to assess components when adding them to my system.   I need to resize images and resample them so they don't end up all jagged (I think that's called aliasing). I found some code (sorry, lost the link) that does this in pure VB6 code but it's a bit slow (2-5 seconds) and I'm displaying pictures in real time so I need something faster. I seem to recall seeing some examples of doing this with the GDI+ library. An example in VB6 would be ideal, but I can probably work with a simple example with Windows API calls in another language.

• Java slick command line app?

  Hello Guys, I want to make a slick java commandline app which doesnt include all the nasty "java -jar some.jar arguments" instead, I would have it work just like program -option argument like any other commandline app. I use ubuntu linux, and it would be fine if it included a bit of .sh script or anything. I know I can just create a file with java -jar program.jar and do chmod +x file, afterwards I could run i with ./file, but then how can I pass the arguments to the program ?

I've been searching everywhere for something on how to fully make a navigation-based iphone app, but all I've found is how to set up table views or navigation controllers.   Situation: I have this log4j logger: private static final Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(ThisClassName.class); And am trying to set it programatically through: Logger.getLogger(ThisClassName.class).setLevel(Level.DEBUG); Still, DEBUG level prints are swalloed (while INFO prints are printed successfully). Even this bit has no effect: Logger.getRootLogger().setLevel(Level.DEBUG); Calling logger.debug("foo") reaches Category.forcedLog() and ConsoleAppender.doAppend(), and then fails (quits) at: if(!isAsSevereAsThreshold(event.getLevel())) Any idea why this is happening?

  Given a infinite stream of random 0's and 1's that is from a biased (e.g. 1's are more common than 0's by a know factor) but otherwise ideal random number generator, I want to convert it into a (shorter) infinite stream that is just as ideal but also unbiased. Looking up the definition of entropy finds this graph showing how many bits of output I should, in theory, be able to get from each bit of input.
