  • Does IIS Sometimes Allocate More Worker Processes Than Configured?

    We have an IIS 7.5 web service on Windows Server 2008 that handles WCF requests from C# clients. This service is configured to have Maximum Worker Processes = 1, so it is not a web garden. IIS is setup to recycle itself at the same time every day (3 AM). I am trying to debug gnarly connection issues, so I wanted to be sure the application pool was not recycling itself. I configured the pool to log an event when it recycles itself. To my surprise, I see the following entries in the System event log: Level: Information Date/Time: 3/23/2012 3:00:00 AM - Source: WAS - Event ID: 5076 A worker process with process id of '6636' serving application pool 'MyAppPool' has requested a recycle because it reached its scheduled recycle time. Level: Information Date/Time: 3/23/2012 2:59:39 AM - Source: WAS - Event ID: 5076 A worker process with process id of '9364' serving application pool 'MyAppPool' has requested a recycle because it reached its scheduled recycle time. IIS is correctly recycling the application pool at 3 AM. However, I do not understand why I would be getting two recycle events in the log within a few seconds of each other. The maximum number of processes is 1. Does IIS sometimes allocate multiple processes for an application pool that is specified as having 1 process? -- edit -- I connected at about 4 PM today and only saw 1 w3wp.exe process. There are no other event log entries that would indicate a crash.

  • Use an audio/video file from a Linux laptop via USB to be played by Magic Sing ET-23H

    I am one of the technical directors of a regular karaoke contest event. For the karaoke contest itself, due to tight budget, we are using what one of the sponsors are providing - Magic Sing ET-23H . The video output of the Magic Sing ET-23H are broadcasted at two big screens that are being shown to the audience and event attendees. When a karaoke contestant provides his / her karaoke video, the video itself is in a readable USB flashdrive and is attached to the USB input of Magic Sing ET-23H. What really bugs me is that the interface of Magic Sing ET-23H are also being broadcasted at the big screen video feeds. The interface of choosing the video file is being seen in the Magic Sing ET-23H - also to the big video screens that are seen by the audience and event goers. I will post in the comments ( if my less than 10 reputation would allow me) the picture of Magic Sing ET-23KH USB input of the device. I always bring my laptop, Acer AS5742-7653, during the regular karaoke event. I'm using my laptop also for tallying of scores from the judges, and also playing audio files from contestants that did not provide a karaoke video. I personally am using different Linux distros, but I next to all the time use my Ubuntu Studio 12.04.3 64bit partition during the regular karaoke contest event. My question is this: Is there a way I can share a temporary video/audio file directly from the laptop I'm using, going to the Magic Sing ET-23H that can broadcast both the video/audio file? Just like how in Window's Avisynth AVS files, or VirtualDub's temporary avi file, or like using ffplay (of ffmpeg), etc. I have researched somewhat the matter and found links in SuperUser.com. Though I can only provide the links at the comments section of this post if my reputation of less than 10 would allow me. I have a hunch it is possible, but I have not fully understood the device being used at the event, Magic Sing ET-23H, if there are other ways for it to broadcast video and audio files besides its USB input. Any help to my current predicament is highly appreciated. Thank you.   • Why are trees shining in background?

    Currently I am creating a forest scene in the dark, and the trees are shining far away, but when I get close they are fine. I have the shaders set to "Nature/Tree Soft Occlusion [bark/leaves]", but they are still rendering strange far away, but close they are fine. I tried placing the trees in a folder named "Ambient-Occlusion" like said here, but no luck. Also fog is turned off. Thanks in advance.

    I'm still working on my window cleaning game from one of my previous questions I marked a contribution as my answer, but after all this time I can't get it to work and I have to many questions about this so I decided to ask some more about it. As a sequel on my mentioned previous question, my question to you is: How can I check whether or not a bitmapData contains non transparent pixels? Subquestion: Is this possible when the masked image is a movieclip? Shouldn't I use graphics instead? Information I have: A dirtywindow movieclip on the bottom layer and a clean window movieclip on layer 2(mc1) on the layer above. To hide the top layer(the dirty window) I assign a mask to it. I would like to determine which application is responsible for visits to my site. Specifically, I want to know how many visits are coming from zite. http://www.handsetdetection.com/properties/vendormodel/Apple/iPad/page:4 seems to indicate this information is probably available, where/does Google Analytics expose this?

  • After Re-opening Laptop, Programs Blink with Each Keystroke, Ubuntu 12.04, Dell Latitude D620

    I'm running Ubuntu version 12.04 on Dell D620 laptop and have been for months. Everything has been working fine until a week ago, when suddenly every time I close the laptop and open it again, the program in use blinks each time I make a keystroke. Only the program blinks, not the whole screen. Rebooting solves the issue until I close the lid again. I have installed all the updates recommended in the package manager. Clues?

  • ts_block.vbs and mac intosh

    I am using your excellent ts_blocker, release 20120530, on my server 2008 R2 Enterprise. it works very fine, i use the vbs script, launched with wscript. The only problem is that is does not work for users attempting to connect RDP from a mac intosh. With this machine the distant IP seems to be not recognized when the login fails. The IP is visible when the login is good (event ID 4624) but not when it fails (Audit failure event ID 4625) : then the IP is not to be seen in the event log ! In the "network information" of the event log entry is nothing given. Have you already been told of that and is there something to do ?

  • Windows Small Business System 2003. SQL timeout in Server Performance Report

    I'm the volunteer IT admin at a small school. We have SBS 2003 with about ten desktops. The server performance report is emailed to me daily. It is setup with a wizard in the Monitoring and Performance part of the "Server Management" console. It often fails with a "The page cannot be displayed" error. The event log shows Event Type: Error Event Source: ServerStatusReports Event Category: None Event ID: 1 Date: 1/16/2011 Time: 6:03:14 AM User: N/A Computer: ALPHA Description: Server Status Report: URL: http://localhost/monitoring/perf.aspx?reportMode=1&allHours=1 Error Message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Stack Trace: at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, TdsParserState state) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, TdsParserState state) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning() at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ReadNetlib(Int32 bytesExpected) [plus lots more stack trace] This has been happening for years :) I've never really solved it. It seems to be related to WSUS. When it happens, I run the Update Services "Server Cleanup Wizard". That takes a long time to run. If I haven't run it for a while it can take 10 hours. I also run the WsusDBMaintenance.sql script (from TechNet I think) which reindexes the database etc. Those two things seem to get it working again for a while. Recently the "while" has become a couple of weeks. My searching online has revealed lots of people having this problem but no real solution. Does anyone have any good ideas about this? I have to wonder if something in the WSUS SQL schema is not indexed properly. The time that the server cleanup wizard takes seems ridiculous. Thanks

  • Active Directory FRS problems. 13508 error and other problems

    I have 3 Domain Controllers. We will call them DC1, DC2 and DC3. DC3 and DC2 show Event ID 13508 in their FRS logs with no follow-up event(13509 I think) to say the error had been fixed. DC1's FRS log no matter what you do never shows any events besides FRS service stopped and started. DC1 holds the SYSVOL that needs to be replicated to the other DC's. The other DC's sysvol folders are empty. I have tried the burflag method of fixing this but I haven't had any luck. My procedure for that was to stop all FRS services on all DC's. Then set the burflag on DC1 to D4 and the other two DCs burflag to D2. Started FRS on DC1 and the only event's I see in DC1's FRS event logs are service stopped and service started messages. This fact is leading me to believe that something is wrong on FRS for DC1. I believe there should be events 13553 and 13516 in the FRS event logs after an authoritative sysvol restore. The other two DC's do not have anything in their SYSVOL, otherwise I would have made one of them the authoritative sysvol. DC1 is MS Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 DC2 is MS Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 DC3 is MS Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2 I did not setup this domain originally but I am now the administrator of it, so I don't have a lot of background on why certain things may have been done in the past. My main goal is to try and fix these issues to get myself better prepared to decommision DC1 and add a DC running Server 2008 to my domain. Thanks.

    Not a major problem, but I would like to understand more about how some websites can serve different pages to a navigating user, such that the browser doesn't visibly pass through a blank white page. Whereas some sites cause the browser to display the white page for up to a few seconds. I can imagine this is partly due to network latency, but are there any other factors? Can I cause the background image / color not to flash white?

  • Is there a good reason I shouldn't use a java applet for a game?

    I want to make a multiplayer browser-based game. The nice thing about using an applet is that I can make the client and the server in the same language (java/closure/scala/etc). I know there's html5 and javascript, but server side javascript isn't as mature as the jvm platform and browser support is still kind of flaky. Applets don't seem to be widely used (except for Runescape), but is there a reason they're unsuitable or is it just because of the bad reputation they developed in their infancy?

  • Laptop power button not working

    I have a (seemingly rather exotic) Dell Latitude XT2 notebook running Lubuntu 12.04, fresh install. Tried to get the power button to work as expected (opening lubuntu-logout, just as I think it was meant to be out-of-the box), but no success: power button does nothing but forced power-off on long press. Here some more information, please ask if something more could help: Power button is recognized as a device: xinput lists Power Button as a slave keyboard at /dev/input/event1, and I can run a tool to listen to that device and invoke some action (successfully). But using .config/openbox/lubuntu-rc.xml to assign some action to XF86ShutDown or XF86PowerOff does nothing. Works well for any key of the keyboard. xinput --test reports a keycode (key press, key release) of 124 when pressing & releasing the power button. xmodmap -pk lists 124 mapped to XF86PowerOff which seems correct to me (btw: is this the same as XF86ShutDown?) When assigning another keysymname to the 124 keycode, e.g. 'w', still nothing happens when pressing the power button (no window seems to receive a 'w'). Works well for any key on the keyboard. The outputs of xev for a press/release of the power button irritate me: MappingNotify event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 8, count 248 FocusOut event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x2a00001, mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor FocusIn event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x2a00001, mode NotifyUngrab, detail NotifyAncestor KeymapNotify event, serial 41, synthetic NO, window 0x0, keys: 93 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 (instead of 93, I also get different values) I might have missed something very basic since I'm not very familiar with both openbox/lubuntu and the X input system. Btw.: same goes for three other special buttons on my laptop..
