• Java stop MIDI playback

  Hi I have java application which plays midi messages from sequence. I'm doing this using jfugue library. the problem is when I'm tryingto stop playback with stop button (which call sequencer.stop() and sequencer.close()) the last played note is sound all of rest time, and I can't stop it. So I'm asking about solution about stopping all audio and MIDI too! sound playback from java application. Notice: If you want propose just mute volume, you need to know that I want end-use will be able to press play button again and hear the sound again, so muting volumr will be not a solution, or explain please. • Java File manipulation

  So I have an application with a JFileChooser from which I select a file to read. Then I change some words and write a new file. The problem that I am having is that when I write the new file it's saved in the project directory. How do I save it in the same directory as the file that I chose using the JFileChooser. Note: I don't want to use the JFileChooser to choose the location. I just need to save the file in the same directory as the original file that I read.

• Huge framerate difference between Test and Publish movie in Flash?

  Simply put, I am making a flash midi player. I am using ENTER_FRAME for my timings. I set the framerate to 100 to ensure that the timing of each note in milliseconds is accurate. When I test the movie with CTRL + ENTER it works fine. When I publish it and open it in a browser (tested both IE and Chrome), it suddenly plays back a lot slower. I don't think it's a performance issue, since the code is very simple. If this slowdown is consistent then I can perhaps work with it so that the playback speed will be correct. Do browsers make the framerate slower or do they implement a framerate cap of some sort? What is going on?

• Java 7 New Features

  I have done some good reading on the new java.util.concurrent features being introduced with the java 7 release. For instance, Phaser, TransferQueue and the more exciting Fork Join Framework. I recently saw a power point made by Josh Bloch about even more features that are going to be introduced however that link has been lost. For example I remember one change is being able to build a Map the same way you can build an array for: Map myMap = {"1,Dog","2,Cat"}; and so forth (this may not be 100% correct but the idea is there) Does anyone know of a list or just can name some new things to look forward to? Note: I did see a question asked http://stackoverflow.com/questions/213958/new-features-in-java-7 however it was asked ~2 years ago and I am sure the list of updates are more concrete. Thanks!

  I'm observing CustomEvents not bubbling, even though I set bubbling to true. • What SQL ORM may i use to replace this old code

  Sorry since this question is specific to my problem. While learning reflections i did a mini SQL ORM in a week then minor tweaks while using it for another week. Since it has very little work put into it, its really only compatibility with sqlite. I havent had problems with the code so far but i would like to port it to something that supports TSQL or MySql. The example code is here which is outdated but has the most used functions in my class. What library can i port that code over too with the smallest about of pain. Note that it must support foreign keys.

• Text to a PNG on App Engine (Python)

  Note: I am cross-posting this from App Engine group because I got no answers there. As part of my site about Japan, I have a feature where the user can get a large PNG for use as desktop background that shows the user's name in Japanese. After switching my site hosting entirely to App Engine, I removed this particular feature because I could not find any way to render text to a PNG using the image API. In other words, how would you go about outputting an unicode string on top of an image of known dimensions (1024x768 for example), so that the text will be as large as possible horizontally, and centered vertically? Is there a way to do this is App Engine, or is there some external service besides App Engine that could make this easier for me, that you could recommend (besides running ImageMagick on your own server)?

• Silverlight app doesn't access web over WCF in IIS

  Hi, My application SilverLight which is hosted in my local host, doesn't access my web app and its database over WCF. I don't know why !!. I've looked over 100 sites and blogs which they have scribed how to configure WCF in IIS, but I can't fix my problem. Note : I debugged it with fiddler in my localhost, everything just worked fine, I saw all my site transaction, except a button which is responsible to access Data over WCF, fiddler didn't log that. • jeditable accidentally triggering on Draggable on nested items

  I'm using jquery-ui's draggable for drag-and-drop, and jeditable for inline editing. When I drag and drop an element that's also editable, right after it's dropped jeditable kicks in and pops into 'edit mode'. How can I disable this behavior? Edit - the problem happens because of netsting - see this example. I also added draggable to the mix to make the example more realistic (the actual real problem is in this site that I'm working on) Note - even though this question has an accepted answer because of the bounty rules, the problem is still not resolved for me.

• List in a Python class shares the same object over 2 different instances?

  I created a class: class A: aList = [] now I have function that instantiate this class and add items into the aList. note: there are 2 items for item in items: a = A(); a.aList.append(item); I find that the first A and the second A object has the same number of items in their aList. I would expect that the first A object will have the first item in its list and the second A object will have the second item in its aList. Can anyone explain how this happens ? PS: I manage to solve this problem by moving the aList inside a constructor : def __init__(self): self.aList = []; but I am still curious about this behavior

• Netbeans or Eclipse for C++?

  I'm currently working on a pet project and need to do C++ development on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Solaris, and I've narrowed it down to Netbeans and Eclipse, so I was wonderig which is more solid as a C++ editor. I just need solid editing, good autocompletion for templated code ad external libraries, and project file management, the build tools are external, so thats irrelevant here, for my comparison. Thus which is a better choice? Note: I know I should be using emacs or vim, but the issue is, my theory at least, that I'm left handed, so I use my right side (design,creativity) of the brain more than the left side (logic, memory), so I just simply cannot use emacs or vim, my brain simply isn't compatible, I tried them many times too, even used emacs for a few months but it drove me crazy...   Continuing from this question, i am confused whether DISPID_VALUE on IDispatch::Invoke() for script functions and properties (JavaScript in my case) can be considered standard and reliable for invoking the actual function that is represented by the IDispatch? If yes, is that mentioned anywhere in MSDN? Please note that the question is about if that behaviour can be expected, not what some interfaces i can't know in advance might look like. Table 1: animal animal_ id (primary key) Table 2: bird bird_ id (primary key) Table 3: Pet_info pet_id, type ENUM ('bird', 'animal') foreign key (pet_ id) references animal(animal_id), bird(bird_id) So, I need to check for pet_id either from animal or bird table depending on the need. • Is it possible to configure Apache to host both an ASP.NET Web Service and a PHP Web site?

  Noob question (because I'm a noob when it comes to Web development). I'm not sure whether I should ask it here or at ServerFault. I am developing an ASP.NET Web Service and a PHP Web site consuming the Web Service. They are meant to be run on different machines. However, only for development purposes, I need to run both on my machine. I cannot use virtual machines. I would like to know if it is possible to configure IIS Apache to host both my Web Service and my Web site? Or, do I need to host the PHP site using Apache? I am using IIS 7.5 Apache HTTP Server 2.2 (NOTE: I have nothing against Apache. In fact, so far I like it more than IIS, however, I would rather not have two Web server applications installed in the same machine.) PHP 5.3.4 .NET Framework 2.0 3.0 or 3.5 (whichever comes with Visual Studio 2008) mod_aspdotnet for Apache 2.2

I have the following questions in mind weight can be expressed in kilograms and grams and height in meters and centimeters, so should I capture them as a BigDecimal with an appropriate precision and scale or capture them as vanilla strings and do the manipulation in the user interface. Note: I am planning to capture the kilograms and grams separately in the user interface. should the metric of measurement be part of the sql (i.e. the end user might want to view this information in pounds, inches according to his preference) OR Should I just support kilograms / meters in the database and do the conversion while showing this in the user interface

There are certain issues which I would like to get enlightened (I googled but I didn't get any appropriate & satisfying answers) I have a dojo.js(Perhaps the uncompressed dojo.js downloaded) in my already running application (Developed by another software developer). How to find out which version of dojo.js he has downloaded and is being used right now? (Its not commented. I checked) a) While I'm trying to run my application in IE-8 (Opening a pop-up on click of a button), I get error which is pointing me to this line of code if(dojo.isIE&&window.location.protocol==="file:") Note: Its working fine in IE6 but the issue is with IE8 & to be even more specific the JS error is displayed only for the first time when I'm clicking the button. b) Is it true that dojo 1.3 & above is the best & stable release for IE8?

• Produce a script to hit Google once a day and log our position in the results?

  The need has arisen within our organisation to monitor (on a daily basis) where our site appears (both organic and PPC) on the page 1 of Google. Also where a key competitor appears. For certain key words. In the immediate short term a colleague is doing this by hitting Google manually and jotting down the results. Yep. It occurs to us we can write a script (e.g. using C#) to do this. I know Analytics will tell us an awful lot but it doesn't note the competitor's position, plus I don't think it has other data we want. Question is, is there an existing basic tool which does this (for free, I guess)? And if we write it ourselves, where to start and are there obvious pitfalls to avoid (for example can Google detect and block automated requests?)

• How do I convince Eclipse to show javadoc documentation under Ubuntu 9.04 for openjdk?

  I'm having a pretty hard time with this! I have installed the java documentation at: file:///usr/share/doc/openjdk-6-jre/api/index.html And loading that file up does show me all the documentation. However, I would like to browse it directly from within eclipse and see the documentation when I hover over a class. For example, when I hover over "javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest", I would like to see the documentation for it. All I get is: Note: This element has no attached source and the Javadoc could not be found in the attached Javadoc. Can anyone help correct my dev environment?

• Django Forms: TimeField Validation

  I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. I have a Django form with a TimeField on it. I want to be able to allow times like "10:30AM", but I cannot get it to accept that input format or to use the "%P" format (which has a note attached saying it's a "Proprietary extension", but doesn't say where it comes from). Here's the gist of my form code: calendar_widget = forms.widgets.DateInput(attrs={'class': 'date-pick'}, format='%m/%d/%Y') time_widget = forms.widgets.TimeInput(attrs={'class': 'time-pick'}) valid_time_formats = ['%P', '%H:%M%A', '%H:%M %A', '%H:%M%a', '%H:%M %a'] class EventForm(forms.ModelForm): start_date = forms.DateField(widget=calendar_widget) start_time = forms.TimeField(required=False, widget=time_widget, help_text='ex: 10:30AM', input_formats=valid_time_formats) end_date = forms.DateField(required=False, widget=calendar_widget) end_time = forms.TimeField(required=False, widget=time_widget, help_text='ex: 10:30AM', input_formats=valid_time_formats) description = forms.CharField(widget=forms.Textarea) Any time I submit "10:30AM", I get a validation error. The underlying model has two fields, event_start and event_end, no time fields, so I don't think the problem is in there. What stupid thing am I missing?
