• How can I animate between states in a programmatic skin? [FLEX]

  I have a button with the various states (up/over/down etc) that uses a skin file to render the display. I want to achieve animation between the states. For instance, between the change from 'up' to 'over' I want to fade in a color and a border. The way I am doing this at the moment is to use viewstates and animate between them using transitions and the mx:AnimateProperty. However, using this method I can only animate one property per viewstate. So only the border, or the color can be animated. Does anyone know how I can achieve multiple animations on multiple properties of a programmatic button skin? Thanks in advance! Note: I have looked into using tweener but cannot see how it would help my situation

  I have a TimeSheet table as: CREATE TABLE TimeSheet ( timeSheetID employeeID setDate timeIn outToLunch returnFromLunch timeOut ); Employee will set his/her time sheet daily, i want to ensure that he/she doesn't cheat. What should i do? Should i create a column that gets date/time of the system when insertion/update happens to the table and then compare the created date/time with the time employee's specified - If so in this case i will have to create date/time column for timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut. I don't know, what do you suggest? Note: i'm concerned about tracking these 4 columns timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut

• Emulating Preference look/feel with LinearLayout

  I really like the look and feel of the Preference UI items and want to replicate that in my application. Basically I've got an Activity with a couple LinearLayouts set to be focusable. When they are focused, I want them to turn green (like Preferences do). Any idea how to apply that style to my LinearLayouts? Note: The LinearLayouts are essentially going to be clickable 'buttons' to launch a separate activity. They are NOT actual preferences or buttons, although they need to look/act similar to them.)

• Behaviour of System.Timer when Interval property changed

  I have a System.Timer setup to trigger an event every day at 2AM. If the process the timer starts fails then I want the timer to be reset to run every 15 minutes until the process completes succesfully. // this is how the timer is set up. // this is working correctly. double startTime = milliseconds_of_hour_to_start. Timer = new System.Timers.Timer( startTime); Here is the code to reset the timer on success or failure of the event handler. NOTE the timer is not being stopped, just the Interval property is being reset. if (ProcessSuccess) { Timer.Interval = TimeSpan.FromHours(24).TotalMilliseconds; } else { Timer.Interval = TimeSpan.FromMinutes(15).TotalMilliseconds; } My question is this, if the process fails say 4 times, then succeeds will the Timer now be running at around 3AM? i.e. after failing will the original start time of 2AM be advanced by 15 minutes?

• MS Access raise form events programmatically

  Is it possible to raise built-in MS Access form events programmatically? I have a feeling it isn't but thought I would check. (I am using Access 2003). For instance, I want to do something like this within a private sub on the form: RaiseEvent Delete(Cancel) and have it trigger the Access.Form delete event -- i.e. without actually deleting a bound record. Note my delete event is not handled by the form itself but by an external class, so I can't simply call Form_Delete(Cancel).

• Best .NET Solution for Frequently Changed Database

  I am currently architecting a small CRUD applicaton. Their database is a huge mess and will be changing frequently over the course of the next 6 months to a year. What would you recommend for my data layer: 1) ORM (if so, which one?) 2) Linq2Sql 3) Stored Procedures 4) Parametrized Queries I really need a solution that will be dynamic enough (both fast and easy) where I can replace tables and add/delete columns frequently. Note: I do not have much experience with ORM (only a little SubSonic) and generally tend to use stored procedures so maybe that would be the way to go. I would love to learn Ling2Sql or NHibernate if either would allow for the situation I've described above.

  I have a table of cities that all share the same area code: 367 01451 Harvard Worcester Massachusetts MA 978 Eastern 368 01452 Hubbardston Worcester Massachusetts MA 978 Eastern 369 01453 Leominster Worcester Massachusetts MA 978 Eastern The table has multiple area codes, all with multiple cities. What I'd like to do is only select one city from each area code and delete any extra cities from duplicate area codes. What would be the best query to accomplish this?   Hi, We're developing a layered web application. The specs: 3 layers, data layer, business layer, ui layer. Programmed in C# Data Layer uses the entity framework Currently we plan on having the data layer return IEnumerable<T> to the business layer via linq 2 entities, and the business layer will return data to the ui layer. Since the ui layer has no knowledge of the existance of the data layer, how would it handle a result of IEnumerable passed to it from the BLL, where T is defined in the data layer? Are there any GOOD example out there on how to do this. Please note that I'm extremely new to factories / interfaces / abstraction to loosely couple layers. I saw the question here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/917457/passing-data-in-an-ntier-application and it was recommended to have the entity layer shared amongst all layers... however I do not want the other layers to be able to query the database.

• How do I change the class of an object to a subclass of its current class in C++?

  I have an array of pointers to a base class, so that I can make those pointers point to (different) subclasses of the base class, but still interact with them. (really only a couple of methods which I made virtual and overloaded) I'm wondering if I can avoid using the pointers, and instead just make an array of the base class, but have some way to set the class to the subclass of my choosing. I know there must be something there specifying the class, as it needs to use that to look up the function pointer for virtual methods. By the way, the subclasses all have the same ivars and layout. Note: the design is actually based on using a template argument instead of a variable, due to performance increases, so really the abstract base class is just the interface for the subclasses, which are all the same except for their compiled code.   I am trying to create a PBBG (persistent browser based game) like that of OGame, Space4k, and others. My problem is with the always-updating resource collection and with the building times, as in a time is set when the building, ship, research, and etc completes building and updates the user's profile even if the user is offline. What and/or where should I learn to make this? Should it be a constantly running script in the background Note that I wish to only use PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Mysql but will learn something new if needed. Cron jobs or the Windows equivalent seem to be the way, but it doesn't seem right or best to me.c

• Command Prompt closes on Windows, using Wamp Server commands

  Hey guys, I am following the tutorial on PHP with MySQL. In that tutorial ebook, they recommend us to use commands to set password for the MySQL. The command goes something like this, "mysqladmin -u root -p status" Now, I am using Windows XP and whenever I enter the command, the dos screen flashes and terminates. I am unable to note down the results, so the question: is there any way to stop command prompt from terminating on Windows machine? Looking forward to hear from you guys, thank you!

  Here is the mysterious: I have a scope which looks like this (in Image.rb) scope :moderate_all, delegates.where("moderation_flag = #{$moderation_flags[:not_moderated]}") Note that delegates is another scope that I am defining before moderate_all When I leave it like this, I can run my test that checks if an image has been "checked-out" it is not available anymore. I don't put the code of the test, because it does not matter actually. With this code, when I run "rake test" it fails, but if I do "ruby test/unit/image_test.rb" it works! I was thinking I am starting to have a bad day. Then I tried scope :moderate_all, lambda { delegates.where("moderation_flag = #{$moderation_flags[:not_moderated]}") } And "rake test" passes! So my problem is solved, but why?

• How to force Maven to download maven-metadata.xml from the central repository?

  What I want to do is to force Maven to download the 'maven-metadata.xml' for each artifact that I have in my local repository. The default Maven behaviour is to download only metadata from remote repositories (see this question). Why I want to do that: Currently I have a remote repository running in a build machine. By remote repository I mean a directory located in the build machine that contains all dependencies that I need to build my Maven projects. Note that I'm not using a repository manager like Nexus, the repository is just a copy of a local repository that I have uploaded to my build machine. However, since my local repository did not contain the 'maven-metadata.xml' files, these metadata files are also missing in the build machine repository. If I could retrieve the metadata files from the central repository, then it would be possible to upload a working remote repository to my build machine.

• JavaScript eval() with `this`

  If I define a JavaScript code snippet in my HTML, like so: <div id=myElem onMyUpdate="alert('Update called for ' + this.id)">... then what is the most elegant way of evaluating it from within JavaScript with this properly assigned? What I came up with so far is something like this: if (elem.hasAttribute('onMyUpdate')) (function () { eval(elem.getAttribute('onMyUpdate')) }).call(elem); which looks terrible (to me), but works. Any better/more elegant alternatives? MDN says there used to be the second argument to eval() for doing just that but it's deprecated now; MDN then suggests to use operator with() instead, which, if you follow the link provided, turns out to be made deprecated by the latest standard. Dead end, in other words. (As a side note, StackOverflow ignores the word this in search terms and thus it may miss relevant answers - is there a way of telling it not to?) Edit: I forgot to mention: no jQuery please, just vanilla JavaScript

• Is Private Bytes >> Working Set?

  OK, this may sound weird, but here goes. There are 2 computers, A (Pentium D) and B (Quad Core) with almost the same amount of RAM running Windows XP. If I run the same code on both computers, the allocated private bytes in A never goes down resulting in a crash later on. In B it looks like the private bytes is constantly deallocated and everything looks fine. In both computers, the working set is deallocated and allocated similarly. Could this be an issue with manifests or DLLs (system)? I'm clueless. Note: I observed the utilized memory with Process Explorer. Question: During execution (where we have several allocations and deallocations) is it normal for the number of private bytes to be much bigger (1.5 GB vs 70 MB) than the working set?

• Lucene.Net - How to treat a space-seperated phrase as a single token?

  I've implemented a search facility using Lucene.Net. The index includes UK academic qualifications, including "A Level". I'd like the users to be able to search using the phrase "A Level", but using the Standrad Analyser the "A" is stripped out as a stop-word and therefore only "Level" is indexed/searched. What's my best option to work around this? I'm guessing I need to somehow tokenise "A Level" to "A-Level" or similar by creating a custom analyser. Is this the best approach? Note that I want don't want the whole search to be a phrase query. i.e. in my search box I want the user to be able to enter <"A Level" AND English Maths Physics and this would return any with "A Level" and either of English MAths or Physics. • How to run a .class file in Windows 7 OS?

  Hi, This is probably a stupid question, but how do I run a class file on windows 7? I usually create my own .java files and then use a basic IDE (with JDK6) to compile it to a class and run it automatically. My professor gave a .class file that we are supposed to play with extensively but I have no idea how to to run it here. Note that I cannot run it by typing: java classname.class because it contains gui stuff especially buttons and such. If I do the above I get the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Test1/2/class Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Test1.2.class at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClassInternal(Unknown Source) Could not find the main class: Test1.2.class. • ALT-TAB Application Icon Pixelated

  When a child window of my application is opened and I view the ALT-TAB menu, the application icon looks pixellated. I assume that Windows uses a low resolution version of the icon (16x16 pixel I think). What can I do that Windows selects the right version which would be 32x32 pixel? I assigned an icon to the window in question that has 16x16, 24x24, 32x32, 48x38 and 256x256 in true color. Please note that VS says in the proterties that 32x32 is used and that it works fine for the main window of my application where I assigned the exact same icon.

• MS VC++ 6 class wizard

  Ok, I'm developing an application that has been in pretty much continous development over the last 16 years, from C in DOS, through various flavours of C++ and now is largely based around C++ with MFC and StingRay GUIs and various other SDKs. While I use VS 2005 for the release builds, I still use MSVC 6 for much of the GUI building, simply because ClassWizard is so much quicker in this environment than the weak equivalent tools that followed. Note that I am using ClassWizard to automatically generate code for my own user defined types (see Custom DDXs) and I like to add a lot of member variables and methods in one go. Creating them one at a time as per later versions of Visual Studio for me is a big backward step. At the same time, working with multiple IDEs is also a pain. My question is in two parts; Is there any way of getting ClassWizard to work is VS 2005 or VS 2008? Is there any drop in replacement, or alternative IDE, that provides similar levels of productivty for old C++ hacks such as myself?

  This is something that's been on my mind for years, but I never took the time to ask before. Many (pseudo) random number generators generate a random number between 0.0 and 1.0. Mathematically there are infinite numbers in this range, but double is a floating point number, and therefore has a finite precision. So the questions are: Just how many double numbers are there between 0.0 and 1.0? Are there just as many numbers between 1 and 2? Between 100 and 101? Between 10^100 and 10^100+1? Note: if it makes a difference, I'm interested in Java's definition of double in particular.
