  How can I count nested list elements in prolog? I have the following predicates defined, which will count a nested list as one element: length([ ], 0). length([H|T],N) :- length(T,M), N is M+1. Usage: ?- length([a,b,c],Out). Out = 3 This works, but I would like to count nested elements as well i.e. length([a,b,[c,d,e],f],Output). ?- length([a,b,[c,d,e],f],Output). Output = 6

• While saving a PNG image using NSData writetofile saves corrupted data on the iphone disk

  I have a number of images (PNG,GIF and JPG) in my Application Resource Bundle. I want some images to be saved in my Documents Directory so i use : imgPath=[documentsDirectoryPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"myImage.png"]; if (![fileMgr fileExistsAtPath:imgPath]) { [[fileMgr contentsAtPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"myImage"ofType:@"png"]] writeToFile:imgPath atomically:NO]; } This saves an Image file on my desired Path but this file has an Extra 300 bytes (of maybe junk data) in it which results in a corrupted image... Am i doing something wrong here? This works in the simulator but on the real device the image has some extra 300 bytes. Also a GIF image gets copied nicely and works but this problem occurs for PNG image.

One aspect of this sort of functional programming I struggle with, esp with Javascript’s peculiarities, is how to make clear either through comments or code just what is happening. Often this sort of code takes a while to decipher, even if you understand the prototypal, first-class functional Javascript way. • ProGuard breaks Java application - no text, no images

  I'm trying to use ProGuard to obfuscate a Java application. I'm experiencing a problem where all of my text and images disappear from the GUI (Swing) forms. I've tried disabling optimizations and including more libraries, but nothing seems to be working. I've inspected the output generated by the obfuscator with a decompiler, and my resource paths seem to still be correct. Do I need to be including more core Java libraries outside of jre/lib/rt.jar? Are there more settings I should disable? ...other suggestions? Thanks.

• Possible to capture the returned value from a Python list comprehension for use a condition?

  I want to construct a value in a list comprehension, but also filter on that value. For example: [expensive_function(x) for x in generator where expensive_function(x) < 5] I want to avoid calling expensive_function twice per iteration. The generator may return an infinite series, and list comprehensions aren't lazily evaluated. So this wouldn't work: [y in [expensive_function(x) for x in generator where expensive_function(x)] where y < 5] I could write this another way, but it feels right for a list comprehension and I'm sure this is a common usage pattern (possible or not!).

• Unresponsive UI when using BeginInvoke

  Bckground I have a networked application written in C#. my server program has a UI and several communication threads, that read from tcp sockets and display messages on controller UI. Communication with each client is done through a seprate thread. When i recieve some stream of messages from one client , the thread for that client writes on UI, which is a richtextbox on a Form. I call SetTextHelper(string text) method of the form. which looks like this private delegate void MyTextUpdateHandler(string text); public void SetTextHelper(string text) { BeginInvoke(new MyTextUpdateHandler(SetText), new object[] { text }); } public setText(string text) { richtext.Text= text; } Question - If i use BeginInvoke my UI is entirely unresponsive when i m writing large stream of data to UI - Invoke solves that problem, but i read that for multi threaded environment where many thereads are sharing same resource Invoke can lead to deadlocks I share the common ichtextbox between around 16 threads - What would be a good desing for my situation?

  in the cpanel that i'm developing thre is a department for articles in arabic and english so i used two tinymce editors one for arabic and the other is for english it works as expected, but the problem is that when i'm using chrome browser the page suddenly become not responding and never come back and i need to restart it but in IE8 no problem at all. i've found in chrome task manager that the memory usage of the page is over 22 kilobyte. i'm also using jquery ui. i've tried the following 1- using jquery plugin the compressor tiny_mce_gzip.php 2- decreasing the plugins of tinymce [ispell,layers,..] what is the solution or what is the cause

• WPF: How to efficiently update an Image 30 times per second

  Hello, I'm writing a WPF application that uses a component, and this component returns a pointer (IntPtr) to pixels of a bitmap (stride * height). I know in advance that the bitmap is a 24bits rgb, its width and height. Updating the Image control with these bitmaps makes up a video to the user, but I'm not sure what's the most efficient way to do that, most of the time the CPU usage goes to 75%+ and memory changing from 40mb to 500mb and the nI think GC starts to work and then it drops again to 40mm. The app starts to not be responsive. What shoud I do? thanks!

• wordpress servlet mapping not working

  I have the latest wordpress running in tomcat 6.0.26 virtual host with Quercus Servlet php servlet. It works, except when I try to use perm links. A url such as /index.php/my-page-name doesn't seem to ever hit the php server. It gets a browser error that request resource is not available. It's like it isn't matching the servlet urlmapping. I'm using a standard method in the web.xml <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Quercus Servlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.php</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> I see nothing showing up either in the tomcat logs when I use that url above. Any ideas please?

  Is there a way to enforce a compile requirement for certain attributes on a class or interface implementation? For example, let's say my application uses a series of static classes that contain const int resource values. I'd like to decorate the class in a Description attribute to describe its contents. In concept, I'd like to apply this attribute requirement to an interface, then each static class would implement it with its required Description. I could write a run-time check or a unit test to check compliance. But really a compile-time check would be best. Is there such a thing?

  Allot of my use of hibernate, at least for that data that is presented on many parts of the web application, is for read-only purposes. I want to add some parameters to my Dao methods so I can modify the way hibernate pulls the data and how it handles transactions etc. Example usage: Data on the front page of my website is displayed to the users, it is read-only, so I want to avoid any session/entity tracking that hibernate usually does. This is data that is read-only, will not be changed in this transaction, etc. What would be the most performant way to pull the data?   Hi, I'm looking for the most basic solution to create multiple indexes on a Java Collection. Required functionality: When a Value is removed, all index entries associated with that value must be removed. Index lookup must be faster than linear search (at least as fast as a TreeMap). Side conditions: It should ideally work with JavaSE (6.0) alone - no extra libraries, if possible. If necessary, then only small (not something like Lucene), common and well tested libraries. No database! Of course, I could write a class that manages multiple Maps myself. But I'd like to know, if it can be done without - while still getting a simple usage similar to using a single indexed java.util.Map. Thanks, Chris

• Creating Discoverable Network Resources (.NET)

  Is it possible to create a discoverable network resource in .NET? What I would like to acheive is a means of auto discovery for applications that run on a private network. The architecture will be similar to a client / server application, however the server could be any computer on the network. While the client would not be aware of the specific IP address that would be the server. I assume I would need some form of multicast, however not having used multicasting before I don't even know where to start. • Android playing Video data from a custom network stream?

  Does Android MediaPlayer can only work with file sources? I would like play media (video) from a network stream, but the stream comes in a non-standard protocol, so I have to somehow feed Android MediaPlayer with the data only. Is there anyway to do that? I found a few web pages suggesting using a temporary file for the buffered media data etc. but I would like to minimize the I/O usage as much as I can, so I'm looking for a API only solution if there is any? how about JNI? but looks like the permissions going to be an issue with that also.

  Hi, I am using Des.php for decryption. For few texts descript function returns Correct output in readable text format. For few... it just returns blank(empty.) After debugging in Des.php, i found that function _unpad($text) is returning false. The input $text is also still encoded. What could be the reason? • Problem with "write" function in linux

  I am trying to write 2 server/client programs under Linux, in which they communicate through named pipes. The problem is that sometimes when I try to write from the server into a pipe that doesn't exist anymore (the client has stopped), I get a "Resource temporarily unavailable" error and the server stops completely. I understand that this is caused by using a O_NONBLOCK parameter when opening the fifo chanel, indicating the point where the program would usually wait until it could write again in the file, but is there a way to stop this behavior, and not halt the entire program if a problem occurs (shouldn't the write command return -1 ad the program continue normally)? And another strange thing is that this error only occurs when running the programs outside the ide (eclipse). If I run both programs inside eclipse, on error the write function just returns -1 and the programs continues normally.

  I've been looking at the new Entity Framework 4 Code Only features, and I really like them. But I'm having a hard time finding good resource on the feature. Everything seems to be spread around blongs here and there, so this make me wonder if it's ready to be used for a serious project? What do you think? Is it ready for production use or should I use the more traditional approach (EDMX designer, POCO objects)? Also, I would like to know if there are any features that Code Only does not support yet, compared to the EDMX designer? What do you think about the Code Only feature? Is it "mature" yet? Thank you.

  Hello, I have an @url.Action in which I pass a parameter to the action. When the parameter is null, I would like to just do nothing and stay on the same page. What I have done is the following: routes.MapRoute( null, "Test/View/{Id}", new { controller = "Test", action = "View" }, new { Id = @"\d+" } //id must be numerical ); routes.IgnoreRoute("Test/View/{*pathInfo}"); The action is not executed but my problem is that I get this: Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
