  • How to monitor changes in the frequency of network latency spikes over time?

    I'm currently trying to troubleshoot an issue with my network in which I get latency spikes up to 200 seconds (normally around 50 secs) in an apparently random way at apparently random moments of the day. While trying to find what part of my messy network needs to be blamed (outside of the scope of this question - discussed a bit on chat), I realized I have no reliable way to confirm that a change actually improved anything. So far, the main way in which i notice this is that irssi shows [Lag: 15 (??)] in the statusbar, increasing every 5 seconds, and all other connections seem to be affected too. Since this depends on my observations, it's not a very reliable method to know how often it really happens. Note that just sending ICMP pings is probably not enough, but that's just my guess. It might be a "bufferbloat" issue, it might be packet loss, it might only apply to persistent connections. I suspect this because a few months ago, when the issue started, I had a "ping" command running in background and it didn't show anything weird at all during the latency spikes. This seems to have changed now (pings don't go through), but still, I'd prefer something more robust.

  • How can I get image data from QTKit without color or gamma correction in Snow Leopard?

    Since Snow Leopard, QTKit is now returning color corrected image data from functions like QTMovies frameImageAtTime:withAttributes:error:. Given an uncompressed AVI file, the same image data is displayed with larger pixel values in Snow Leopard vs. Leopard. Currently I'm using frameImageAtTime to get an NSImage, then ask for the tiffRepresentation of that image. After doing this, pixel values are slightly higher in Snow Leopard. For example, a file with the following pixel value in Leopard: [0 180 0] Now has a pixel value like: [0 192 0] Is there any way to ask a QTMovie for video frames that are not color corrected? Should I be asking for a CGImageRef, CIImage, or CVPixelBufferRef instead? Is there a way to disable color correction altogether prior to reading in the video files?   • How does the iPhone know which OpenGL ES context to use between 1.1 and 2.0?

    I've been digging around the net recently and noticed some video tutorials show an older template (pre SDK 3.2) with one OpenGL ES context. Now there are two of them, which, I've gleaned are the two versions of OpenGL ES available on the newer iMobile devices. Can I just use the older one or do I need to do everything twice? How do I tell the iPhone to use the older context, or will it do so automatically?

Is there some unexposed meta tag that I should know about? I have to cache some video content for an offline app and 5mb is not going to be enough.

    Hello I must create a custom media player within the application with support for mp3 and wav files. I read in the documentation i cant seek or get the media file duration without a custom datasoruce. I checked the demo in the JDE 4.6 but i have still problems... I cant get the duration, it return much more then the expected so i`m sure i screwed up something while i modified the code to read the mp3 file locally from the filesystem. Somebody can help me what i did wrong ? (I can hear the mp3, so the player plays it correctly from start to end) I must support OSs = 4.6.     Hi, i was wondering, how can i extract thumbnail from a flash-video file, then display it in a listbox. the listbox is suppose to have many videos which i need to extract thumbnails from programatically with actionscript. the flash-player is going to be on the web, and the extraction must happen when the swf file is loading, therefore, the method must not be too time-taking. how do i go on about doing so? is this even possible? tnx in advance

  • Sniffing at work- How to detect

    Because of the place I work has some real issues (people) especially in IT and the owner, I wonder if we are being sniffed. Is there any way to tell if on a Vista 64-bit machine: 1) In system logs some identification that would tell me that someone might log into my PC such as an Admin 2) Something in the logs that would give me a flag about maybe I'm being monitored some other way? 3) How can I be sure that my gmail, hotmail, and chat is not being sniffed. I know there are things like Simp, etc. I'm talking about specific hidden system signs either in registry or logs. Obviously I'm not going to raise any suspicion by me asking our network admin. I don't trust anyone at this company. is there a good way to basically monitor for this as an end user? Could someone log in and basically watch me work and if so, would there be any goodies left behind for me to find out if this has happened other than visual signs which would not be present...maybe some running processes?

    When viewing a jpg or mp3 in Windows Explorer, the bottom pane shows metadata from the media file. Furthermore, for video and picture, the icon is shown as a preview of the media. Is there a way to add this kind of functionality to windows for custom file types that aren't supported by default in windows? Is there a certain sort of plugin or extension that must be written? If so, how is it implemented? Thank you.
