  • Looking for exercises to learn SQL, using the Northwind database

    - by MedicineMan
I am trying to become more familiar with SQL by writing queries against the Northwind database. I am looking for some exercises that would help me to learn SQL and features of SQL Server. It is important that the exercises have solutions, and in complicated cases, it would be great if there was an explanation for the query. Thanks for the answers so far but I still have not found what I am looking for: Is there any free resource, available online, without registration, that I can find a list of these exercises?

  • Query string length limit in vba?

    - by datatoo
I am trying to combine multiple audit tables, and then filter the results into an excel sheet. The Union All and parameters make the query in excess of 1200 characters. It appears the string is truncated when running this. What recommendations can anyone make. I have no control over the database structure and am only reading foxpro free tables. I am permitted table creation but can write into the excel sheet connecting to the datasource Thanks for suggestions

  • Online PHP/HTML/JS/CSS editor

    - by pistacchio
Hi to all, is there any free php code that, once installed, allows you to browse and edit files (with html, javascript, php and css highlight) on the server where it's installed? The aim is to code online, browser based. I've tried http://phpanywhere.net/ that can make this possible, but it is buggy and moreover it requires an external (ftp) access to your server that is quite different (and less secure) that working directly on the server. Thanks in advance

  • looking for php-based image viewer / browser

    - by stereofrog
(don't know if this better belongs to SU/SF, feel free to move if so) Hi, I've got a directory with 1000+ subfolders full with hi-res images. I'm looking for php software that would allow me to explore it server-side: browse folders - preview images - download hi-res. NB: support for print formats (tiff, eps) is a must!

  • What is the general process of web hosting?

    - by ggfan
I want to upload my site public so people can use it. I am currently using a free PHP webhosting company that supports up to a certian amount. When sites that say they offer unlimited upload, data, etc for like $10/month, is that all you need to run a big site? Or how do I host a big site, if it gets popular?

I wonder what are the available pure embeddable Java HTML viewers? The requirements are: Should implement JComponent interface to be placed into Scrollable pane. Should be preferably a free solution; opensource is a plus. Availability as maven artifact is a plus. • FileFinder using SQL

    - by James Morgan
I was thinking of working on a project while I have some free time and this one looks pretty nice: http://mindprod.com/project/filefinder.html One thing I'm wondering about is that will it really be much faster compared to the regular windows search if I use SQL? I'm planning to use MySQL since it's open source. Also, do I need to be good at databases for this? I have basic knowledge about relational databases and can definitely make some SQL statements. Thanks.

  • Alternative to Google Custom Search

    - by EduardoMello
Hi, I'm using Google Custom Search (http://www.google.com/cse) on a client website. They are not very happy about rival companies showing up on sponsered links on their own site. I know we can use Google Site Search (http://www.google.com/sitesearch/ but it has an annual fee. I've been looking all around for a Free/OpenSource alternative for Google CSE, but found little I can use. Anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

  • FTP files in Windows Scripting Host?

    - by adib
Hi What is the recommended way to transfer files via FTP and manage (rename, move, delete) files in an FTP server programmatically in a Windows Scripting Host script file (JavaScript/VBScript)? Preferably without requiring 3rd party ActiveX add-ons since these "extra" software will need to go through an approval process that will take a very long time, even for free (as in beer) and/or open source components. The script is going to be run in a Windows 2003 Server in data center environment. Thanks.

  • C Programming - My program is good enough for my assignment but I know its not good

    - by Joe
Hi there I'm just starting an assignment for uni and it's raised a question for me. I don't understand how to return a string from a function without having a memory leak. char* trim(char* line) { int start = 0; int end = strlen(line) - 1; /* find the start position of the string */ while(isspace(line[start]) != 0) { start++; } //printf("start is %d\n", start); /* find the position end of the string */ while(isspace(line[end]) != 0) { end--; } //printf("end is %d\n", end); /* calculate string length and add 1 for the sentinel */ int len = end - start + 2; /* initialise char array to len and read in characters */ int i; char* trimmed = calloc(sizeof(char), len); for(i = 0; i < (len - 1); i++) { trimmed[i] = line[start + i]; } trimmed[len - 1] = '\0'; return trimmed; } as you can see I am returning a pointer to char which is an array. I found that if I tried to make the 'trimmed' array by something like: char trimmed[len]; then the compiler would throw up a message saying that a constant was expected on this line. I assume this meant that for some reason you can't use variables as the array length when initialising an array, although something tells me that can't be right. So instead I made my array by allocating some memory to a char pointer. I understand that this function is probably waaaaay sub-optimal for what it is trying to do, but what I really want to know is: 1. Can you normally initialise an array using a variable to declare the length like: char trimmed[len]; ? 2. If I had an array that was of that type (char trimmed[]) would it have the same return type as a pointer to char (ie char*). 3. If I make my array by callocing some memory and allocating it to a char pointer, how do I free this memory. It seems to me that once I have returned this array, I can't access it to free it as it is a local variable. Many thanks in advance Joe
