• Strange EListError occurance (when accessing variable-defined index)

  Hi, I have a TList which stores some objects. Now I have a function which does some operations on that list: function SomeFunct(const AIndex: integer): IInterface begin if (AIndex > -1) and (AIndex < fMgr.Windows.Count ) then begin if (fMgr.Windows[AIndex] <> nil) then begin if not Supports(TForm(fMgr.Windows[AIndex]), IMyFormInterface, result) then result:= nil; end; end else result:= nil; end; now, what is really strange is that accessing fMgr.Windows with any proper index causes EListError... However if i hard-code it (in example, replace AIndex with value 0 or 1) it works fine. I tried debugging it, the function gets called twice, with arguments 0 and 1 (as supposed). while AIndex = 0, evaluating fMgr.Windows[AIndex] results in EListError at $someAddress, while evaluating fMgr.Windws[0] instead - returns proper results ... what is even more strange, even though there is an EListError, the function returns proper data ... and doesn't show anything. Just info on two EListError memory leaks on shutdown (using FastMM) any ideas what could be wrong?! Thanks in advance michal

• Vim + OmniCppComplete and completing members of class members

  I've noticed that I can't seem to complete members of class members using OmniCppComplete. For example, given the following files: // foo.h #include <string> class foo { public: void set_str(const std::string &); std::string get_str_reverse( void ); private: std::string str; }; // foo.cpp #include "foo.h" using std::string; string foo::get_str_reverse ( void ) { string temp; temp.assign(str); reverse(temp.begin(), temp.end()); return temp; } /* ----- end of method foo::get_str ----- */ void foo::set_str ( const string &s ) { str.assign(s); } /* ----- end of method foo::set_str ----- */ I've set up tags for stdlibc++ and generated the tags for these two files using: ctags -R --c++-kinds=+pl --fields=+iaS --extra=+q . When I type temp. in the cpp I get a list of string member functions as expected. But if I type str. omnicomplete spits out "Pattern Not Found". I've noticed that the temp. completion only works if I have the using std::string; declaration. How do I get completion to work on my class members?

• Latex: Text cannot be placed below image

  I love latex! But sometimes, it does not love me... I'm having a problem with an image and some text. I have this code: Some text...\\ \begin{figure}[ht] \centering \includegraphics[scale=0.75]{picture.jpg} \caption{The caption} \label{fig:picture} \end{figure} Some more text... Basically, I want this: Some text. (Above image in the code) [end of page / new page] image Some more text. (Below the image in the code) [start of new section] But, what the above code gives me is this: Some text. (Above image in the code) Some more text. (Below the image in the code) [end of page / new page] image [start of new section] Latex insists on putting everything but a new section above the image even though its below the image in the code. Its probably because the image floats on top - but whats my alternative? There's not enough space on the first page to display the image there, to I cannot use [h] as the float-alignment. I can "hack it", by creating an empty new section, like \section*{}, but this creates some white-space, which looks weird. Any suggestions?

  I have what I know is a simple question, but after many searches in books and on the Internet, I can't seem to come up with a solution. I have a standard iPhone project that contains, among other things, a ViewController. My app works just fine at this point. I now want to create a generic class (extending NSObject) that will have some basic utility methods. Let's call this class Util.m (along with the associated .h file). I create the Util class (and .h file) in my project, and now I want to access the methods contained in that class class from my ViewController. Here's an example of a simple version of Util.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface Util : NSObject { } - (void)myMethod; @end Then the Util.m file would look something like this: #import "Util.h" @implementation Util - (void)myMethod { NSLog(@"myMethod Called"); } @end Now that my Util class is created, I want to call the "myMethod" method from my ViewController. • How do I browse a Websphere MQ message without removing it?

  I'm writing a .NET Windows Forms application that will post a message to a Websphere MQ queue and then poll a different queue for a response. If a response is returned, the application will partially process the response in real time. But the response needs to stay in the queue so that a daily batch job, which also reads from the response queue, can do the rest of the processing. I've gotten as far as reading the message. What I haven't been able to figure out is how to read it without removing it. Here's what I've got so far. I'm an MQ newbie, so any suggestions will be appreciated. And feel free to respond in C#. • Rendering 'belongs_to" in index view question - Ruby on Rails

  I have created a simple blog application with Ruby on Rails. The applications consists of two tables, posts and comments. Comments belongs_to :post and posts has_many :comments. I created posts table with the following columns: title:string, body:text. I created the comments table with the following columns: body:text post_id:integer name:string email:string In the /views/comments/index.html.erb display I would like to show a listing of all comments w/ the post title as well. Currently, the index view only displays post_id, body, name, email. How do I replace the post_id column with the corresponding post title? • Minimum privileges to read SQL Jobs using SQL SMO

  I wrote an application to use SQL SMO to find all SQL Servers, databases, jobs and job outcomes. This application is executed through a scheduled task using a local service account. This service account is local to the application server only and is not present in any SQL Server to be inspected. I am having problems getting information on job and job outcomes when connecting to the servers using a user with dbReader rights on system tables. If we set the user to be sysadmin on the server it all works fine. My question to you is: What are the minimum privileges a local SQL Server user needs to have in order to connect to the server and inspect jobs/job outcomes using the SQL SMO API? I connect to each SQL Server by doing the following: var conn = new ServerConnection { LoginSecure = false, ApplicationName = "SQL Inspector", ServerInstance = serverInstanceName, ConnectAsUser = false, Login = user, Password = password }; var smoServer = new Server (conn); I read the jobs by reading smoServer.JobServer.Jobs and read the JobSteps property on each of these jobs. The variable server is of type Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server. user/password are of the user found in each SQL Server to be inspected. If "user" is SysAdmin on the SQL Server to be inspected all works ok, as well as if we set ConnectAsUser to true and execute the scheduled task using my own credentials, which grants me SysAdmin privileges on SQL Server per my Active Directory membership. • Using JQuery to insert new cells in a table row?

  I know that JQuery is a very powerful library and was just wondering if it had the following capability that I really need. Lets say I need to insert new cells into a table row, I know how to do this basic task, but I need to insert my cells in a highly unusual way due to some of the requirements that are needed for the new cells. I need to be able to insert cells a certain distance into the row, For example, if a row was 1000pixels wide, is there a feature in JQuery that would allow me to insert the cell 250pixels into the row and have a cell width of 50pixels and insert another cell 500pixels into the row with a cell width of 100pixels. I know how to set a cells width using JQuery, just not distance into a row. The values wont ever be the exact same as above though because they are actually read from a database, so for example, one cell would have the following values: CELL_01 $start=100; $finish=150; the above would mean a new cell is needed that needs to be inserted 100pixels into the row and has a width of 50pixels, I just cant seem to find a way to implement this feature into my application. How could I accomplish this task? Sorry for such a strange question, but i just cant seem to get this working. Thanks!

• Post method in Servlet is not being called again after being executed once

  I am implementing a database based web application using servlets. Now, when I input a parameter using a form in the jsp page, it redirects it to a servlet which subsequently adds the value to the database (the servlet creates a new table if the table doesn't already exist). The creation of the table and the addition of value works fine if the table doesn't already exists. Once it is created however and the parameter is inputted again in the form, the submit button no longer redirects it to the servlet. Nor is the value added to the database. Kindly advise me as to where I am going wrong. • How to associate static entity instances in a Session without database retrieval

  I have a simple Result class that used to be an Enum but has evolved into being its own class with its own table. public class Result { public static readonly Result Passed = new Result(StatusType.Passed) { Id = [Predefined] }; public static readonly Result NotRun = new Result(StatusType.NotRun) { Id = [Predefined] }; public static readonly Result Running = new Result(StatusType.Running) { Id = [Predefined] }; } Each of these predefined values has a row in the database at their predefined Guid Id. There is then a failed result that has an instance per failure: public class FailedResult : Result { public FailedResult(string description) : base(StatusType.Failed) { . . . } } I then have an entity that has a Result: public class Task { public Result Result { get; set; } } When I save a Task, if the Result is a predefined one, I want NHibernate to know that it doesn't need to save that to the database, nor does it need to fetch it from the database; I just want it to save by Id. The way I get around this is when I am setting up the session, I call a method to load the static entities: protected override void OnSessionOpened(ISession session) { LockStaticResults(session, Result.Passed, Result.NotRun, Result.Running); } private static void LockStaticResults(ISession session, params Result[] results) { foreach (var result in results) { session.Load(result, result.Id); } } The problem with the session.Load method call is it appears to be fetching to the database (something I don't want to do). How could I make this so it does not fetch the database, but trusts that my static (immutable) Result instances are both up to date and a part of the session?

  I am trying to create an updater for my program which automatically download's the latest version of my program from the web. Now I want this process to be done using a progress bar (so when the download progress is at 50% the progress bar is half-way through).   so, i'm trying to learn ruby by doing some project euler questions, and i've run into a couple things i can't explain, and the comma ?operator? is in the middle of both. i haven't been able to find good documentation for this, maybe i'm just not using the google as I should, but good ruby documentation seems a little sparse . . . 1: how do you describe how this is working? the first snippet is the ruby code i don't understand, the second is the code i wrote that does the same thing only after painstakingly tracing the first: #what is this doing? cur, nxt = nxt, cur + nxt #this, apparently, but how to describe the above? nxt = cur + nxt cur = nxt - cur 2: in the following example, how do you describe what the line with 'step' is doing? from what i can gather, the step command works like (range).step(step_size), but this seems to be doing (starting_point).step(ending_point, step_size). • Best way to do interprocess communication on Mac OS X

  I'm looking at building a Cocoa application on the Mac with a back-end daemon process (really just a mostly-headless Cocoa app, probably), along with 0 or more "client" applications running locally (although if possible I'd like to support remote clients as well; the remote clients would only ever be other Macs or iPhone OS devices). The data being communicated will be fairly trivial, mostly just text and commands (which I guess can be represented as text anyway), and maybe the occasional small file (an image possibly). I've looked at a few methods for doing this but I'm not sure which is "best" for the task at hand. Things I've considered: Reading and writing to a file (…yes), very basic but not very scalable. Pure sockets (I have no experience with sockets but I seem to think I can use them to send data locally and over a network. Though it seems cumbersome if doing everything in Cocoa Distributed Objects: seems rather inelegant for a task like this NSConnection: I can't really figure out what this class even does, but I've read of it in some IPC search results I'm sure there are things I'm missing, but I was surprised to find a lack of resources on this topic.

Then take average of those two row export as one row. • Ant fileset's "dir" missing from absolute path when using a mapper

  I've been trying to write an Ant task to "compile" Sass scripts in my project using the apply task but I kept getting a "No such file or directory" error. I thought it might have been caused by spaces in the buildpath so I went through the trouble of moving the project only to find that Ant seems to omitting the fileset's root directory when it returns the path. This is what the target looks like: <target name="sass-compile" depends="properties"> <apply executable="sass"> <srcfile /> <targetfile /> <fileset dir="${project.src.dir}" includes="**/*.scss" /> <globmapper from="*.scss" to="*.css" /> </apply> </target> To help troubleshoot, I switched the executable from sass to echo and I noticed that the mapper is transforming paths like this... /Users/me/Documents/Programming/workspace/Project/src/java/com/proj/web/page/template/Template.scss ...into this... /Users/me/Documents/Programming/workspace/Project/java/com/proj/web/page/template/Template.css Notice that the src directory is missing from the target file path. Am I seeing a bug here or is this somehow expected? I would love to know what's going on here. I have also tried using a regexpmapper, and a filtermapper with replacestring. The result is the same. I'm running Ant 1.7.1, which comes bundled with Eclipse Helios, which I'm running on a Mac. I also tried Ant 1.8 on both Mac and Linux. Nothing works. Does anyone have any ideas?

As far as I can see, this is valid Ruby code. Is there something I'm missing here that's causing the error, or could the error be coming from something else? Update: I'm wondering if the problem has to do with namespaces. This code is attempting to extend CMath, so perhaps the alias and/or module_function isn't actually getting into CMath, or something like that....

• Routing problem with calling a new method without an ID

  I'm trying to put together a form_tag that edits several Shift objects. I have the form built properly, and it's passing on the correct parameters. I have verified that the parameters work with updating the objects correctly in the console. However, when I click the submit button, I get the error: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound in ShiftsController#update_individual Couldn't find Shift without an ID My route for the controller it is calling looks like this looks like this: map.resources :shifts, :collection => { :update_individual => :put } The method in ShiftsController is this: def update_individual Shift.update(params[:shifts].keys, params[:shifts].values) flash[:notice] = "Schedule saved" end The relevant form parts are these: <% form_tag( update_individual_shifts_path ) do %> ... (fields for...) <%= submit_tag "Save" %> <% end %> Why is this not working? If I browse to the url: "http://localhost:3000/shifts/update_individual/5" (or any number that corresponds to an existing shift), I get the proper error about having no parameters set, but when I pass parameters without an ID of some sort, it errors out. How do I make it stop looking for an ID at the end of the URL?

  In my rails application I have a helper function: def render_page( permalink ) page = Page.find_by_permalink( permalink ) content_tag( :h3, page.title ) + inline_render( page.body ) end If I called the page "home" with: <%= render_page :home %> and "home" page's body was: <h1>Home<h1/> bla bla <%= render_page :about %> <%= render_page :contact %> I would get "home" page, with "about" and "contact", it's nice and simple... right up to where someone goes and changes the "home" page's content to: <h1>Home<h1/> bla bla <%= render_page :home %> <%= render_page :about %> <%= render_page :contact %> which will result in a infinite loop ( a segment fault on webrick )... How would I change the helper function to something that won't fall into this trap? My first attempt was along the lines of: @@list = [] def render_page( permalink ) unless list.include?(permalink) @@list += [ permalink ] page = Page.find_by_permalink content_tag( :h3, page.title ) + inline_render( page.body ) @@list -= [ permalink ] else content_tag :b, "this page is already being rendered" end end which worked on my development environment, but bombed out in production... any suggestions? • iPhone slide view passing variables

  Right, I'm trying to make an app that has a calculation that involves a stopwatch. When a button on the calculation view is clicked a stopwatch slides in from the bottom. This all works fine, the problem I can't get my head around is how to send the recorded time back to the previous controller to update a textfield.   I'm trying to build a string using data elements stored in a std::list, where I want commas placed only between the elements (ie, if elements are {A,B,C,D} in list, result string should be "A,B,C,D". • Object Oriented Programming in AS3

  I'm building a game in as3 that has balls moving and bouncing off the walls. When the user clicks an explosion appears and any ball that hits that explosion explodes too. Any ball that then hits that explosion explodes and so on. My question is what would be the best class structure for the balls. I have a level system to control levels and such and I've already come up with working ways to code the balls. Here's what I've done. My first attempt was to create a class for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and finally Orb. These all extended each other in the order I just named them. I got it working but having Bounce extend Movement and Explosion extend Bounce, it just doesn't seem very object oriented because what if I wanted to add a box class that didn't move, but did explode? I would need a separate class for that explosion. My second attempt was to create Movement, Bounce and Explosion without extending anything. Instead I passed in a reference to the Orb class to each. Then the class stores that reference and does what it needs to do based on events that are dispatched by the Orb such as update, which was broadcast from Orb every enter frame. This would drive the movement and bounce and also the explosion when the time came. This attempt worked as well but it just doesn't seem right. I've also thought about using Interfaces but because they are more of an outline for classes, I feel like code reuse goes out the window as each class would need its own code for a specific task even if that task is exactly the same. I feel as if I'm searching for some form of multiple inheritance for classes that as3 does not support. Can someone explain to me a better way of doing what I'm attempting to do? Am I being to "Object Oriented" by having classed for Movement, Bounce, Explosion and Orb? Are Interfaces the way to go? Any feedback is appreciated!
