  • Password verification; Is this way of doing it safe?

    I have a classifieds website, where everybody may put ads of their products. For each classified, the user has to enter a password (so that they can delete the classified whenever they wish). So basically, when somebody wants to delete a classified, they click on the classified, click on the delete button, and enter the pass. I use MySql as a database. I use this code basically: if ($pass==$row['poster_password']) where row[poster_password] is fetched from MySql... What do you think? Thanks

  • How to recalculate primary index?

    I have table in mysql database with autoincrement PRIMARY KEY. On regular basis rows in this table are being deleted an added. So the result is that value of PK of the latest row is growing very fast, but there is not so much rows in this table. What I want to do is to "recalculate" PK in this way, that the first row has PK = 1, second PK = 2 and so on. There are no external dependencies on PK of this table so it would be "safe". Is there anyway it can be done using only mysql queries/tools? Or I have to do it from my code?

I want the append button and delete button beneath the appended elements, but when i use insertBefore, the Toggle function only toggles the buttons visibility. Depending on the object I may need some columns with DropDownLists or TextFields (but not all rows) As I don't know the number or columns, they have to be dynamic. I found this solution: TemplateField t = new TemplateField(); t.HeaderTemplate = new GridViewTemplate("header", "title"); t.ItemTemplate = new GridViewTemplate("combobox", "val"); GridView1.Columns.Add(t); GridView1.DataSource = ds; GridView1.DataBind(); Where GridViewTemplate extends ITemplate. This didn't work for me, it fills all rows of a column and I had no way to control witch DropDownList and TextFields need to be created (object info). All the DropDownLists need to have an ID also only known by the object. There are some way I can do this?

    The problem is this: I have multiple competing threads (100+) that need to access one database table Each thread will pass a String name - where that name exists in the table, the database should return the id for the row, where the name doesn't already exist, the name should be inserted and the id returned. There can only ever be one instance of name in the database - ie. name must be unique How do I ensure that thread one doesn't insert name1 at the same time as thread two also tries to insert name1? In other words, how do I guarantee the uniqueness of name in a concurrent environment? This also needs to be as efficient as possible - this has the potential to be a serious bottleneck.   • ODBC: when is the best time to create my database?

    I have a windows program which generates PGP forms which will be filled in later. Those PHP forms will populate a database. It looks very much like MySql, but I can't be certain, so let's call it ODBC. And, yes, it does have to be a windows program. There will also be PHP forms which query the database - examine which tables and fields it contains and then generates forms which can be used to search the database (e.g, it finds a table with fields "employee_name", etc and generates a form which lets you search based on employee name. Let's call that design time and run time. At design time, some manager or IT guy or similar gets to define the nature of the database and at runtime 1) a worker fills in the form daily and 2) management can extract reports. Here's my question: given that the database is defined at "design time" (and populated at run time), where and how is best to do so? 1 I could use an ODBC interface from the windows program, but I am having difficulty finding something good to work with Delphi. Things like ADO and firebird tend to expect you to already have a database and allow you to manipulate it, but I can find no code example of how to create a database and some tables, so ... 2 I could used DOS commands from Delphi in my windows program. I just tried and got a response to MySql --version, but am not sure if MySql etc are more interactive. That is, can I use a script file or a very long stacked command with semicolons and returns separating? e.g 'CREATE DATABASE db; CREATE TABLE t1;' 3) Since the best way to work with databases seems to be PHP, perhaps my windows program could spit out a PHP page which would, when run in a browser, create the database. I have tried to make this as uncomplicated as I can, but please feel free to ask questions. It may be that there are several valid ways, but there is probably one 'better' solution in terms of ease of implementation or maintenance. Better scratch option 3. What if the user later wants to come back and have the windows program change the input form? It needs to update the database too.

    Hey guys, I am following the tutorial on PHP with MySQL. In that tutorial ebook, they recommend us to use commands to set password for the MySQL. The command goes something like this, "mysqladmin -u root -p status" Now, I am using Windows XP and whenever I enter the command, the dos screen flashes and terminates.     Just came across this issue using the fulltext search of mysql. I have like 250 records ( long articles like stuff ) and am using the fulltext MATCH AGAINST IN BOOLEAN MODE. Now if I search for a keyword e.g. 'Samsung' and if this keyword is present in ALL the records then it returns all the 250 records which it should ( of course without `IN BOOLEAN MODE it would return nothing as the keyword is present in more than 50% of the records ). Now the problem is that in some articles the keyword 'Samsung' occurs once and in others a couple of times, but MYSQL is giving a score of 1 to all the records returned, even those which have 'Samsung' like 15 times in them.

    I have a table in MySQL 4.0 which currently has a year field as a smallint(6) type. What will happen if I convert it directly to a Year type with a query like the following: ALTER TABLE t MODIFY y YEAR(4) NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP; When the current members of column y have values like 2010? I assume that because the year type is technically values from 1-255, values above that will be truncated or broken. So if MySQL isn't smart enough to realize that 2010(int) = 110(year), what would be the simplest query or queries to convert the values? Thanks for your help!

On DB2 I got this Error: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-302, SQLSTATE=22001 (Character data, right truncation occurred; for example, an update or insert value is a string that is too long for the column, or a datetime value cannot be assigned to a host variable, because it is too small.) I'm looking for solutions for DB2, MsSql, MySql, Hypersonic.

Time (the column) is a date time in my database, and I can only see sedDate and setTime method but I want to store both - also my code does not work anyway ;-) if anyone could give me some pointers on inserting a combined date time (current time would be a great help as that's my first goal) into a MySql DB using a prepared statement I would be very grateful.     I have a sorted std::vector of relative small size ( from 5 to 20 elements ). I used std::vector since the data is continuous so I have speed because of cache. On a specific point I need to remove an element from this vector. I have now a doubt: which is the fastest way to remove this value between the 2 options below? setting that element to 0 and call sort to reorder: this has complexity but elements are on the same cache line. call erase that will copy ( or memcpy who knows?? ) all elements after it of 1 place ( I need to investigate the behind scense of erase ). Do you know which one is faster? I think that the same approach could be thought about inserting a new element without hitting the max capacity of the vector. Regards AFG
