• before_filter not inheriting from parent controller correctly?

  Sorry if this may be a stupid question but I'm unable get my filters to inherit the way the Rails 3 documentation is saying it should. Specifically I have an Admin controller that was generated via: rails generate controller admin I added only a single action to the admin controller, the before filter & the private filter method class AdminController < ApplicationController before_filter require_admin_creds def index end private def require_admin_creds unless current_user && current_user.admin? flash[:error] = ... redirect_to .... end end end I next then created my nested resources under the admin section with: rails generate scaffold admin/model While my admin index is indeed getting the filter, the admin/model index (or any other actions) are not. What is happening under the hood here that I must have excluded? Thanks in advance.

  I have a simple Windows form in VB: textbox bound thru an adapter and a bindingsource to my dataset. I have a button that on Click I want it to update the database. The form loads and the first data row shows in the textbox, I change the text then click my button but no update happens. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong, or how I should do this??   I'm learning from Google's Android developing tutorial and i came across a problem. On this link https://developer.android.com/training/basics/network-ops/connecting.html#AsyncTask it says to create a class that extends AsyncTask. So when i write the class it automatically implements the method as follows: private Object doInBackground(Object... args) {..} //it's fine but when i try writing just as it says in the tutorial: private String doInBackground(String... args) {..} //it gives an error and the error says: The method doInBackground(String...) of type MainActivity.DownloadWebpageText must override a superclass method. So how do i change Object to String without getting an error there?

Which of course gives me the following error: Column IHINV not in table CIINVHD Did anyone had this problem before? I have other entities that are very alike in the way that they are using # in their database field names and that are part of the PK and I don't have this problem with them.

  My code can see the non-public members, but not the public ones. Why? FieldInfo[] publicFieldInfos = t.GetFields(BindingFlags.Instance | BindingFlags.Public); is returning nothing.   For my Google Wave robot, on the onDocumentChanged event I want to apply a filter as follows: @Capability(filter = FILTER) @Override public void onDocumentChanged(DocumentChangedEvent event) { ... } I want the filter to be generated the first time the robot is run, which I'm trying to do as follows: private static final String FILTER = generateFilter(); private static final String generateFilter(){ ... } However, it complains FILTER isn't a constant expression when used within @Capability. generateFilter() will return the same string every time it is called, I'm only using it to create the string so that when I make changes, I don't need to worry about updating the filter. Now I could be going about this all wrong, so wondered if anyone knew what I'm doing wrong, or knew a better way in which I could generate a constant expression from the function.

• In ASP.NET MVC, how does response.redirect work?

  I have used response.redirect in classic ASP and ASP.NET webforms. However, with MVC 2.0, I am running into something peculiar. I have a private method in a controller class that is used by multiple controller methods to help load and validate some information. This private method is setup to redirect if a problem is discovered to a generic error message page. The big problem I am noticing is that the calling controller class and page view attempt to complete rendering and loading before the redirect actually takes place. This is annoying in development because the View throws exceptions that I need to ignore before my generic error page finally loads. As mentioned above, I am used to the older model of response.redirect which prevented subsequent code on a page from being executed as the new page would then load. Any help or advice on redirects in MVC would be greatly appreciated.

  I am using VS2008. I have a project, SystemSoftware project, connect with a database and we are using L2E. I have a RuntimeInfo class which contains some shared information there. In the AndeDataViewer project, I get the connection string from above RuntimeInfo class which is a class from my SystemSoftware project as a linked file. • Android: How to properly exit application when inconsistent condition is unavoidable?

  First of all I already read about all this discussion that it isn't a good idea to manually exit an Android application. But in my case it seems to be needed. I have an AsyncTask which does a lof of operations in background. That means downloading data, saving it to local storage and preparing it for usage in application. It could happen that there is no internet connection or something different happens. For all that cases I have an Exception handling which returns the result. And if there is an exception, the application is unusable so I need to exit it. My question is, do I have to do some unregistration unloading or unbinding tasks or something when I exit the application by code or is System.exit(0) ok?   Why do I need to add allocationSize=1 when using the @TableGenerator to ensure that the id wouldn't jump from 1, 2,... to 32,xxx, 65,xxx,... after a jvm restart? Is there a design reason for the need to specify the allocationSize? (Since this field is part of a struct with other fields, which I've omitted for clarity, I can't simply change the CharSet of the containing struct.) Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

While some of them are surely ' legitimate', many questions could have been answered by putting in just slightly more search effort on their part. I really don't mind be asked stuff, and I can also cope with beginner questions, but this is seriously interrupting my flow. I clearly remember Joel talking about how private offices increase productivity because they prevent too easy questions from being asked. How should I deal with this situation? Getting a private office is out of the question, sadly. It's difficult to approach him directly, and he blissfully ignored the slight hints I tried to give.

• Git: How do I rewind the Master branch on the remote origin

  I made 5 commits to Master branch when bug hunting on a private project and pushed them to the remote origin (my own private vps). Then I saw that commits 4 and 5 were going to cause trouble elsewhere and I need to undo them, so I checked out commit 3 again, made a new branch "Dev" from that point, and did a few more commits fixing the issue properly. Then I did git reset --hard HEAD~2 on Master to pull it back to the point that I branched Dev. Then I did git merge to fast forward Master back to the end of the Dev branch. So now I have a local repository, with Dev and Master both pointing to the same, up to date version of the project with the latest bug fix. Problem is, when I try to push the project now to the origin, it fails and gives me an error message: ! [rejected] master - master (non-fast forward) error: failed to push some refs to 'myserver...myproject.git' What have I done wrong, and how do I fix it? Thanks

So, am stuck with trying to get a way to make it less dynamic. Any help?

• C++ Scoping and ambiguity in constructor overloads

  I've tried the following code snippet in 3 different compilers (G++, clang++, CL.exe) and they all report to me that they cannot disambiguate the overloaded constructors. Now, I know how I could modify the call to the constructor to make it pick one or the other (either make explicit that the second argument is a unsigned literal value or explicitly cast it). However, I'm curious why the compiler would be attempting to choose between constructors in the first place given that one of the constructors is private and the call to the constructor is happening in the main function which should be outside the class's scope. • Android: Unable to access a local website over HTTPS

  I am trying to access a locally hosted website and get its HTML source to parse. I have few questions: 1) Can I use "https://An IP ADDRESS HERE" as a valid URL to try and access. I do not want to make changes in the /etc/hosts file so I want to do it this way. 2) I cannot get the html, since it is giving me Handshake exceptions and Certificate issues. I have tried a lot of help available over the web , but am not successful.
