  • Why is this variables declared as private and also readonly?

    - by Sergio Tapia
    In the following code: public class MovieRepository : IMovieRepository { private readonly IHtmlDownloader _downloader; public MovieRepository(IHtmlDownloader downloader) { _downloader = downloader; } public Movie FindMovieById(string id) { var idUri = ...build URI...; var html = _downloader.DownloadHtml(idUri); return ...parse ID HTML...; } public Movie FindMovieByTitle(string title) { var titleUri = ...build URI...; var html = _downloader.DownloadHtml(titleUri); return ...parse title HTML...; } } I asked for something to review my code, and someone suggested this approach. My question is why is the IHtmlDownloader variable readonly?

  • Marshal managed string[] to unmanaged char**

    - by Vince
    This is my c++ struct (Use Multi-Byte Character Set) typedef struct hookCONFIG { int threadId; HWND destination; const char** gameApps; const char** profilePaths; } HOOKCONFIG; And .Net struct [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential, CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] public struct HOOKCONFIG { public int threadId; public IntPtr destination; // MarshalAs? public string[] gameApps; // MarshalAs? public string[] profilePaths; } I got some problem that how do I marshal the string array? When I access the struct variable "profilePaths" in C++ I got an error like this: An unhandled exception of type 'System.AccessViolationException' occurred in App.exe Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. MessageBox(0, cfg.profilePaths[0], "Title", MB_OK); // error ... Orz

  • Best method to cleanly shut down an application launched via another.

    - by JYelton
    I couldn't find any close answers to this, so I'm consulting the experience of SO users: Scenario: I have two small C# winforms applications where one behaves as a server or host, the other as a client. They share data via SQL Server, in terms of configuration settings. I am currently launching the client application (which only needs to run periodically) from the server application via Process.Start() and terminating it via Process.CloseMainWindow() (after finding it in the process list). While it seems clean enough, I wondered if there's a better way. Question: Which way would be best to instruct the client application to shut down: Continue using Process.CloseMainWindow()? Implement WCF between the applications? (I would need help on how to do this.) Set a variable in SQL that the client application checks for? Some other way?

  • Adding objects to LDAP via CGI

    - by musashiXXX
    I have a web form that collects information and submits it to a cgi that attempts to insert the data into LDAP. The problem is that I'm trying to use a variable with ::ldap::add and it's just not working. Here's the code: if {[string length env(QUERY_STRING)] != 0} { set handle [::ldap::connect localhost] set dn "cn=admin,dc=mycompany,dc=com" set pw "myPassword" ::ldap::bind $handle $dn $pw set dn "cn=[ncgi::value givenName] [ncgi::value sn],ou=people,dc=mycompany,dc=com" set formValues [ puts "cn {{[ncgi::value givenName] [ncgi::value sn]}}" puts "displayName [ncgi::value givenName] [ncgi::value sn]" foreach {key value} [ncgi::nvlist] { if {[string length $value] != 0} { puts "$key $value" } } puts "objectClass top" puts "objectClass person" puts "objectClass organizationalPerson" puts "objectClass inetOrgPerson" ] ::ldap::add $handle $dn { $formValues } ldap::unbind $handle } However, if I replace $formValues with the actual entries that I want to insert into LDAP, they get added just fine. I'm new to TCL so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some glaring errors in this snippet. Thanks in advance!

  • C# Compiler should give warning but doesn't?

    - by Cristi Diaconescu
    Someone on my team tried fixing a 'variable not used' warning in an empty catch clause. try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { } - gives a warning about ex not being used. So far, so good. The fix was something like this: try { ... } catch (Exception ex) { string s = ex.Message; } Seeing this, I thought "Just great, so now the compiler will complain about s not being used." But it doesn't! There are no warnings on that piece of code and I can't figure out why. Any ideas? PS. I know catch-all clauses that mute exceptions are a bad thing, but that's a different topic. I also know the initial warning is better removed by doing something like this, that's not the point either. try { ... } catch (Exception) { } or try { ... } catch { }

  • Setfocus to textbox from JavaScript after just creating the textbox with JavaScript?

    So I just created a textbox with JavaScript like this: EDIT: Added the len variable var len = tbl.rows.length; var rtb = tbl.insertRow(len); var cName = rtb.insertCell(0); var cDis = rtb.insertCell(1); var cDur = rtb.insertCell(2); cName.innerHTML = '<input type="text" name="tbName1' + len + '" value="' + selected_text + '" >'; cDis.innerHTML = '<input type="text" name="tbDis1' + len + '" id="tbDis1' + len + '" >'; cDur.innerHTML = '<input type="text" name="tbDur1' + len + '" >'; var txtBox = document.getElementById('tbDist1' + len); txtBox.focus(); EDIT:Changed the second to last line. Still get this error: txtBox is null txtBox.focus(); The last line isn't working. After I create the textbox, I can't set focus to it. Is there any way of doing so?

  • How can I access variables outside of current scope in javascript?

    - by sekmet64
    I'm writing some application in javascript and cannot figure it out how to access the variables declared in my function, inside this jquery parse. Inside I can access global variables, but I don't really want to create global vars for these values. Basically I want to extract file names from an xml document in the simulationFiles variable. I check if the node attribute is equal with the simName and extract the two strings inside the xml elements, that part I think it's working. How can I extract those xml elements and append them to local variables? function CsvReader(simName) { this.initFileName = "somepath"; this.eventsFileName = "somepath"; $(simulationFiles).find('simulation').each(function() { if ($(this).attr("name") == simName) { initFileName += $(this).find("init").text(); eventsFileName += $(this).find("events").text(); } }); }

  • The Elegant way to handle Cyclic Event in Java ??

    - by dex
    Hi fellows, i think this not a specific problem to me; everybody might have encountered this issue before. To properly illustrate it, here's a simple UI: As you can see, those two spinners are controlling a single variable -- "A". The only difference is that they control it using different views. If i change the top spinner, "A" will be changed and the bottom spinner's value will also be updated accordingly. However, updating the bottom spinner's call (such as setValue) will also trigger another event instructing the top spinner to update based on the bottom spinner's value. Thus creates a bad cycle which can eventually cause a StackOverFlow exception. My previously solution is kinda cumbersome: i placed a guarding boolean to indicate whether the 2nd updating call should be performed. Now i'd like to ask "how can i handle such situation elegantly?" thx

  • Why the difference in speed?

    - by AngryHacker
    Consider this code: function Foo(ds as OtherDLL.BaseObj) dim lngRowIndex as long dim lngColIndex as long for lngRowIndex = 1 to ubound(ds.Data, 2) for lngColIndex = 1 to ds.Columns.Count Debug.Print ds.Data(lngRowIndex, lngColIndex) next next end function OK, a little context. Parameter ds is of type OtherDLL.BaseObj which is defined in a referenced ActiveX DLL. ds.Data is a variant 2-dimensional array (one dimension carries the data, the other one carries the column index. ds.Columns is a Collection of columns in 'ds.Data`. Assuming there are at least 400 rows of data and 25 columns, this code takes about 15 seconds to run on my machine. Kind of unbelievable. However if I copy the variant array to a local variable, so: function Foo(ds as OtherDLL.BaseObj) dim lngRowIndex as long dim lngColIndex as long dim v as variant v = ds.Data for lngRowIndex = 1 to ubound(v, 2) for lngColIndex = 1 to ds.Columns.Count Debug.Print v(lngRowIndex, lngColIndex) next next end function the entire thing processes in barely any noticeable time (basically close to 0). Why?

  • Declaring pointers; asterisk on the left or right of the space between the type and name?

    - by GenTiradentes
    I've seen mixed versions of this in a lot of code. (This applies to C and C++, by the way.) People seem to declare pointers in one of two ways, and I have no idea which one is correct, of if it even matters. The first way it to put the asterisk adjacent the type name, like so: someType* somePtr; The second way is to put the asterisk adjacent the name of the variable, like so: someType *somePtr; This has been driving me nuts for some time now. Is there any standard way of declaring pointers? Does it even matter how pointers are declared? I've used both declarations before, and I know that the compiler doesn't care which way it is. However, the fact that I've seen pointers declared in two different ways leads me to believe that there's a reason behind it. I'm curious if either method is more readable or logical in some way that I'm missing.

  • How to initialize an std::string using ""?

    - by Mohsin
    I'm facing problems with initializing a std::string variable using "" (i.e. an empty string). It's causing strange behavior in code that was previously working. Is the following statement wrong? std::string operationalReason = ""; When I use the following code everything works fine: std::string operationalReason; operationalReason.clear(); I believe that string literals are stored in a separate memory location that is compiler-dependent. Could the problem I'm seeing actually be indicating a corruption of that storage? If so, it would get hidden by my usage of the clear() function. Thanks.

  • PHP: how to grab an URL out of a chunk of text?

    - by Eileen
    Let's say I have a big RSS feed full of Twitter posts, and they are all plain text. Lots of the posts contain URLs, and I'd like those URLs to be turned into links. So I've got a variable that is equal to: Visualization of layoffs by industry, number and date. Looking forward to seeing similar for hiring trends. http://bit.ly/XBW4z And I'd like it to turn into: Visualization of layoffs by industry, number and date. Looking forward to seeing similar for hiring trends. http://bit.ly/XBW4z How could I do that? I am useless when it comes to regex and its ilk, so help is much appreciated!

  • View a SYS.XMLTYPE returned from an Oracle function, using PL/SQL

    - by caerphilly
    I have an Oracle function that dynamically creates an XML document, and returns it in a SYS.XMLTYPE value. I want to run a query from SQL Developer that calls that function and prints the document (either via a select, or dbms_output - I don't care). But all the examples/documentation seem to refer to querying XML columns in tables, and I can't seem to get the syntax right for my particular usage. I'd like something like this: declare x SYS.XMLTYPE; begin x := my_package.my_function(); select x.getclobval() from x; -- doesn't work! end; How can I print out the value of the XML type variable 'x' in the above code?

  • Flash AS 3 Loader OnComplete Inside a Loop

Sorry. Here is my question again: Hi, How can I make your function work for loader object in a loop? Thanks! Meengla Here is my existing (rough) code; I always get the mylabel from the last element of the array. var _loader = new Loader(); for (j = 0; j < 5; j++) { //mylabel variable is correct setup in the loop _loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, function(e:Event):void { doneLoad(e, mylabel); }); _loader.load(new URLRequest(encodeURI(recAC[j].url))); }//for loop

  • Why does Perl's shift complain 'Type of arg 1 to shift must be array (not grep iterator).'?

    - by wes
    I've got a data structure that is a hash that contains an array of hashes. I'd like to reach in there and pull out the first hash that matches a value I'm looking for. I tried this: my $result = shift grep {$_->{name} eq 'foo'} @{$hash_ref->{list}}; But that gives me this error: Type of arg 1 to shift must be array (not grep iterator). I've re-read the perldoc for grep and I think what I'm doing makes sense. grep returns a list, right? Is it in the wrong context? I'll use a temporary variable for now, but I'd like to figure out why this doesn't work.

  • How Pick a Column Value from a ListView Row - C#.NET

    - by peace
    How can i fetch the value 500 to a variable from the selected row? One solution would be to get the row position number and then the CustomerID position number. Can you please give a simple solution. SelectedItems means selected row and SubItems means the column values, so SelectedItem 0 and SubItem 0 would represent the value 500. Right? This is how i populate the listview: for (int i = 0; i < tempTable.Rows.Count; i++) { DataRow row = tempTable.Rows[i]; ListViewItem lvi = new ListViewItem(row["customerID"].ToString()); lvi.SubItems.Add(row["companyName"].ToString()); lvi.SubItems.Add(row["firstName"].ToString()); lvi.SubItems.Add(row["lastName"].ToString()); lstvRecordsCus.Items.Add(lvi); }

  • About enumerations in Delphi and c++ in 64-bit environments

    - by sum1stolemyname
    I recently had to work around the different default sizes used for enumerations in Delphi and c++ since i have to use a c++ dll from a delphi application. On function call returns an array of structs (or records in delphi), the first element of which is an enum. To make this work, I use packed records (or aligned(1)-structs). However, since delphi selects the size of an enum-variable dynamically by default and uses the smallest datatype possible (it was a byte in my case), but C++ uses an int for enums, my data was not interpreted correctly. Delphi offers a compiler switch to work around this, so the declaration of the enum becomes {$Z4} TTypeofLight = ( V3d_AMBIENT, V3d_DIRECTIONAL, V3d_POSITIONAL, V3d_SPOT ); {$Z1} My Questions are: What will become of my structs when they are compiled on/for a 64-bit environment? Does the default c++ integer grow to 8 Bytes? Are there other memory alignment / data type size modifications (other than pointers)?

  • PagedDataSource does not support serialization - how can I enforce this ?

    - by Darkyo
    Sounds like I want to override a physics law, but at least it is the most reasonnable solution, cpu / HDD and Ram effective for my asp.net project. In fact, I got a pageddataSource and a customDataReader that supports paginated data. The truth is my data are in a viewstate variable, because it is re-used in an update panel. When I intend to use it into my pageddatasource, asp.net 3.5 kills me with a System.Web.UI.WebControls.PagedDataSource' in Assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' is not marked as serializable. cool exception... So I'd rather not offend newton because I know he'll always win, but I would need some help to enforce this pagedDataSource law, that seems so unbelievable, except if someone has an explanation.

  • Sqlite3 Database versus populating Arrays

    - by Kenoy
    hi, I am working on a program that requires me to input values for 12 objects, each with 4 arrays, each with 100 values. (4800) values. The 4 arrays represent possible outcomes based on 2 boolean values... i.e. YY, YN, NN, NY and the 100 values to the array are what I want to extract based on another inputted variable. I previously have all possible outcomes in a csv file, and have imported these into sqlite where I can query then for the value using sql. However, It has been suggested to me that sqlite database is not the way to go, and instead I should populate using arrays hardcoded. Which would be better during run time and for memory management?

  • Screening (multi)collinearity in a regression model

    - by aL3xa
    I hope that this one is not going to be "ask-and-answer" question... here goes: (multi)collinearity refers to extremely high correlations between predictors in the regression model. How to cure them... well, sometimes you don't need to "cure" collinearity, since it doesn't affect regression model itself, but interpretation of an effect of individual predictors. One way to spot collinearity is to put each predictor as a dependent variable, and other predictors as independent variables, determine R2, and if it's larger than .9 (or .95), we can consider predictor redundant. This is one "method"... what about other approaches? Some of them are time consuming, like excluding predictors from model and watching for b-coefficient changes - they should be noticeably different. Of course, we must always bare in mind specific context/goal of analysis... Sometimes, only remedy is to repeat a research, but right now, I'm interested in various ways of screening redundant predictors when (multi)collinearity occurs in a regression model.
