  R has a qr() function, which performs QR decomposition using either LINPACK or LAPACK (in my experience, the latter is 5% faster). The main object returned is a matrix "qr" that contains in the upper triangular matrix R (i.e. R=qr[upper.tri(qr)]). So far so good. The lower triangular part of qr contains Q "in compact form". One can extract Q from the qr decomposition by using qr.Q(). I would like to find the inverse of qr.Q(). In other word, I do have Q and R, and would like to put them in a "qr" object. R is trivial but Q is not. The goal is to apply to it qr.solve(), which is much faster than solve() on large systems.

Student *s = malloc(sizeof(*s)); I fill my structure with data and then i write in to the file: fwrite(s, sizeof(*s), 1, fp); In my file doesnt exist a name and surname, it have an adresses of char*. How can i write to file a word, not an adresses?

I know that in C#, there's a way to do everything in one line. Is there any possiblity of passing it in a more clever (read: cleaner) way to my update function?

• Max number of web methods?

  Guys I have a web service in asp.net 2.0 that has 234 methods. It seems that when I add another method the site does not compile in VS2005 until I remove one first. I get a message saying that the new method I just added does not exist in a file that belongs in the Microsoft.Net/.../Temporary Files directory. I have restarted IIS, closed down VS2005, removed all files from this temp directory but to no avail. The only way to get the code to compile is to remove another one so as to keep 234 methods.... I can consistency replicate this behaviour so it cannot be my code. Now I know this seems strange but it is true! One other strange thing is that exactly 100 of the method names begin with the word GetXXXyyyZZZ Has anyone else experienced problems with the maximum number of methods that are allowed in a web service? • CSS: Why won't this box get wider?

  I just need a sanity check here... DEMO Basically, I can't figure out how to get the box under the link to get wider as more content is added. It seems fixed to the width of the parent div (or the width of, say, the longest element like the select or a really long word with no spaces), despite being absolutely positioned. I use this trick all the time with ul and li but it doesn't make sense to use that in my situation, and for some crazy reason it just won't work with a div inside a div. I don't want to set a width (which, of course, works) because I don't always know what will be in this box. GRR Thanks :\

  How can I use IndexOf with SubString to pick a specific Character when there are more than one of them? Here's my issue. I want to take the path "C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Temp\" and remove the "Temp\" part. Leaving just "C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\" I have solved my problem with the code below but this assumes that the "Temp" folder is actually called "Temp". Is there a better way? • OpenXml - How to identify whether the paragraph extends to next page

  From aspx page, I dynamically add paragraphs to a word document using OpenXml SDK. In this case, a page break within a paragraph is not allowed. So in case a paragraph starts in middle of page 1 and extends to page2 then it should actually start in Page2. However, if it ends in the same page it is okay. How to achieve this? Is there a way to set in th document that page break is not allowed within a paragraph? Any input is highly appreciated.

  When a user clicks once on an item in a Grid or a ListBox, that item is usually selected, hence most UI frameworks have a onSelected event or the like for that. However, how can we generally call the next step when a user "finally" selects an item by e.g. double clicking an entry? You know when some popup might appear in the context of the selected item and the user can do further stuff. Strangely enough, I think I have never seen a word for that in any UI framework. onPicked, onAccepted, onChosen, onFinallySelected, onResult? All kinda awkward or too special. Any other ideas?

  Given that I have two lists that each contain a separate subset of a common superset, is there an algorithm to give me a similarity measurement? Example: A = { John, Mary, Kate, Peter } and B = { Peter, James, Mary, Kate } How similar are these two lists? Note that I do not know all elements of the common superset. Update: I was unclear and I have probably used the word 'set' in a sloppy fashion. My apologies. Clarification: Order is of importance. If identical elements occupy the same position in the list, we have the highest similarity for that element. The similarity decreased the farther apart the identical elements are. The similarity is even lower if the element only exists in one of the lists. I could even add the extra dimension that lower indices are of greater value, so a a[1] == b[1] is worth more than a[9] == b[9], but that is mainly cause I am curious.

For example, you can download Dictionaries in specific formats (e.g. XML) for use in word games. In particular, I was hoping that there might be a list of common medical drugs so that I can use display a list in an application I'm working on as researching and typing 150+ drug names would be quite inefficient.   Morning, I am inputting data from an XML file into my database, but have any isse with German words (that are in the XML by mistake) For example the word für appears in my XML as für and thus appears the same in my database. I know I could do a simple search/replace for that exact phrase, but I was wondering if there was a smarter way to do it as I can't predict if any other German words may one day appear in the XML? • Strange findFn malfunction

  I noticed a strange malfunction in using findFn function (library sos) and I can't find out the source. While it works fine on my Windows XP pc, it does not on my Vista one. library (sos) findFn("randomization test") # in both finds 72 results findFn("{randomization test}") # In XP finds 19 or about so, but in Vista whenever I use {} and more than one word inside, # I keep getting the following: found 0 matches x has zero rows; nothing to display. Warning message: In findFn("{randomization test}") : HIT not found in HTML; processing one page only. R ver = 2.10.1 and packages updated. Any ideas where the problem might be? Bonus: As it's obvious, I was looking for functions about tests for randomized experiments

  So the user may search for "10 mbit" after which I want to capture the "10" so I can use it in a speed-search rather than a string-search. This isn't a problem, the below regexp does this fine: if (preg_match("/(\d+)\smbit/", $string)){ ... } But, the user may search for something like "10/10 mbit" or "10-100 mbit". I don't want to match those with the above regexp - they should be handled in another fashion. So I would like a regexp that matches "10 mbit" if the number is all-numeric as a whole word (i.e. contained by whitespace, newline or lineend/linestart) Using lookbehind, I did this: if (preg_match("#(?<!/)(\d+)\s+mbit#i", $string)){ Just to catch those that doesn't have "/" before them, but this matched true for this string: "10/10 mbit" so I'm obviously doing something wrong here, but what?

• Adding a search box to a windows forms web browser control that highlights text

  I have a windows forms (using c#) application. It displays a webpage and has a textbox/botton combination which can be used to search for text displayed to the user. Currently I search the inner text of all elements for the text in the textbox. And then I weed out the elements that are redundant (for example a word could be in a 'p' and 'b' element where the 'b' is a child element of 'p' so the element returned should be 'b'). Finally I run the ScrollIntoView(true) method on the found element. I'd now like to add a function that highlights the text (like if you search for a term in a real webbrowser). My first thought was to just inject html and or javascript code around the text but that seems like a messy solution. Any ideas on how I should do this? Thanks for your help!

  Hi, I've created a short text (a word) in photoshop with the blending options I prefer and now it's all done I would like to paste it into my flash project. The problem is I can't get the text to be transparent in the flash, I always see the white background which is not very nice since the background on which the text will show is actually a picture. How to make this text transparent? In photoshop I started a new transparent project. Copying from a .GIF file also doesn't work... Thanks!!

Firefox immediately tells me that neither of these two words are real (at least, it doesn't recognize them). • What would be a good "CMS" for me to use?

  Hey, I'm looking for some sort of CMS system to implement here in terms of "documentation" system. Now, I'm not to sure about which system(s) would suit my needs best, so I thought I'd come here and type up my requirements so you could help me in narrowing down all the different options. One important note to make is that I'm not looking at a system where I can store certain documents (word, pdf, whatever). Rather at a system where I can type the "documentation"-text in some sort of post (like a blog). Requirements: - Multilanguage support - Tagging - Decent search support (tags, groupings, categories) - Version-control of posts/articles - Possibility of exporting post(s) to a pdf file - Support for multi-user (usergroup X can only see those posts, usergroup Y can see others, etc...) I know, these are some strange requirements if they're all combined, and I reckon most of you would perhaps say that I'd have to develop something like this inhouse rather then finding a descent working product out there (open source if possible). • NSString stringWithContentsOfFile failing with what seems to be the wrong error code

  Hello. I'm trying to load a file into a string. Here is the code I'm using: NSError *error = nil; NSString *fullPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:filename ofType:@"html"]; NSString *text = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:fullPath encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&error]; When passed in @"about" as the filename, it works absolutely fine, showing the code works. When passed in @"eula" as the filename, it fails with 'Cocoa error 258', which translates to NSFileReadInvalidFileNameError. However, if I swap the contents of the files over but keep the names the same, the other file fails proving there is nothing wrong with the filename, it's something to do with the content. The about file is fairly simple HTML but the eula file is a massive mess exported from Word by the legal department. Does anyone know of anything inside a HTML file that could cause this error to be raised? Much thanks, Sam
