• Java ActionListener buttonPress() restriction

  Is there a way to restrict this button to only being impressed once? The reason I ask is because for some reasons every time the button is pressed it disrupts the rest of my code. So in effort to save a massive amount of time debugging, it would be much easier to just somehow restrict the number of times it can be pressed. Thanks in advance. • Regex to match a Java method signature

  I am having this particular requirement where a method has to be identified by different regular expressions for different components. For example, there need to be a regex for return parameter, one for method name, one for argument type and one for argument name. I was able to come up with an expression till this step as follows - ([^,]+) ([^,]+)\((([^,]+) ([^,]+))\) It works well for a method signature like - ReturnType foo(Arg parameter) The regular expression identifies ReturnType, foo, Arg and parameter separately. Now the problem is that a method can have no/one/multiple arguments separated by commas. I am not able to get a repeating expression for this. Help will be appreciated.

  I'm trying to match the username with a regex. Please don't suggest a split. USERNAME=geo Here's my code: String input = "USERNAME=geo"; Pattern pat = Pattern.compile("USERNAME=(\\w+)"); Matcher mat = pat.matcher(input); if(mat.find()) { System.out.println(mat.group()); } why doesn't it find geo in the group? I noticed that if I use the .group(1), it finds the username. However the group method contains USERNAME=geo. Why?

• Trimming byte array when converting byte array to string in Java/Scala

  Using ByteBuffer, I can convert a string into byte array: val x = ByteBuffer.allocate(10).put("Hello".getBytes()).array() > Array[Byte] = Array(104, 101, 108, 108, 111, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0) When converting the byte array into string, I can use new String(x). However, the string becomes hello?????, and I need to trim down the byte array before converting it into string. How can I do that? I use this code to trim down the zeros, but I wonder if there is simpler way. def byteArrayToString(x: Array[Byte]) = { val loc = x.indexOf(0) if (-1 == loc) new String(x) else if (0 == loc) "" else new String(x.slice(0,loc)) }

• Reference variable to an object instantiated/initialized in another class in Java

  The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting NullPointerException. I now this is very easy but I'm pretty new programming and find this a bit confusing. So say I have initialized an object in a class and want to access that same object from another class. Like now for instance I'm working on a small Chess game, in my model Game class I have an instance of Board, an object. Board, in turn, has an array of Squares. Square[][]. Game has board, board has Square[][]. Now if I want to access the Square[][] through the object board (in Game) of type Board. Do I just declare a variable with the same name and type or do I have to initialize it again? Board board OR Board board = new Board(); Note, I have already initialized board in the class Game so if I do it again, won't they be two totally different Board objects?

• How to load modules in Java

  I'm building a server that loads modules. Each module is a .jar file. Inside the jar there's all the classes that the module needs. The server needs to read the jar, find the main class (it doesnt have the main method on it is just the class that makes the module work but not as a different program), build an object of that class and store it in a vector of modules so that it can acces to a specific module depending on the job to be done. How can I do that? As far as the server, it is listening and receiving request, but there's no modules to delegate the job to, since my vector of modules is empty.

• How do develop a Java web application without having to deploy all the time

  I've set up a simple Eclipse 3.5/Jetty 6.1 web app which returns hello world. It works. This is on Windows and uses the "Jetty Generic Server Adapter". I have auto deployment working so that it deploys after changes periodically. How do I go about setting it up so that if I change any static content it doesn't have to redeploy i.e I can just hit F5 to see the changes straight away. For minor HTML changes it's quite unusable waiting 20-30 seconds for a deployment.

  hi, I'm reusing the same ArrayList in a for loop, and I use for loop results = new ArrayList<Integer>(); experts = new ArrayList<Integer>(); output = new ArrayList<String>(); .... to create new ones. I guess this is wrong, because I'm allocating new memory. Is this correct ? If yes, how can I empty them ? Added: another example I'm creating new variables each time I call this method. Is this good practice ? I mean to create new precision, relevantFound.. etc ?   Hi. I'm building a webapp that uses jboss-seam with jsf, facelets and rich faces, running on top of jboss AS 5.1. I would like to add a portlet area where I could add my own portlets, but from what I got (reading forums and documentation) I need to be running a portlet container/portal (something like liferay or gatein). But I don't want to be running a portal. I just want some kind of control where I can embed a portlet (something like an iFrame). Is this true or I got it wrong? • Java giving incorrect year values

  Something very, very strange is occurring in my program, and I'm wondering if anyone out there has seen this occur before. And, if so, how to fix it. Basically, I am parsing an csv file...no problem there. One column contains a date and I am taking it in as a String and changing to a Date object. Again, no problem there. The code is as follows: SimpleDateFormat dateFormat = new SimpleDateFormat("MM/dd/yy hh:mm"); Date initialDate = new Date(); try { initialDate = dateFormat.parse(rows.get(0)[8]); System.out.println(initialDate); } catch (ParseException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } Of course, I'm parsing other columns as well (and those are working fine). So, when I run my program for a small csv file (2.8 MB), the dates come out (i.e. are parsed) perfectly. However, when I run the program for a large csv file (25 MB), the dates are a hot mess. For example, take a look at the year values I am getting (the following is just a tiny portion of the println output from the code above): 1000264 at Sun Nov 05 15:30:00 EST 2186 1000320 at Sat Mar 04 17:30:00 EST 2169 1000347 at Sat Apr 01 09:45:00 EDT 2169 1000413 at Tue Jul 09 13:00:00 EDT 2182 1000638 at Fri Dec 11 13:45:00 EST 2167 1000667 at Wed Dec 10 10:00:00 EST 2188 1000690 at Mon Jan 02 13:00:00 EST 2169 1000843 at Thu Feb 11 13:30:00 EST 2196 In actuality, the years are in the realm of 1990-2006 or so. Again, this does not happen with the small csv file. Does anyone know what's going on here and how I can fix it? I need to process the large csv file (the small one was just for testing purposes).   Hey folks, ok so this is my problem, I need to display HTML code in a jsp, which wouldn't be a problem, except a requirement for this project is that we place all the code in a public class file and have seperate methods for each chunk(header, sidebar footer, etc). Now here's where i'm confused: "Your method should take the PrintWriter as a parameter to print out each line of HTML, and should have a return type of void" What does that mean? I want to have a column (should be the first column) which simply shows the display row number (i.e. it is not tied to any data (or sorting) but is simply the row number on the screen starting at 1).
