  • When should I open and close a website's cached WCF proxy?

    I've browsed around the other articles on StackOverflow that relate to caching WCF proxies for reuse, and I've read this article explaining why I should explicitly open the proxy before calling anything on it. I'm still a little hazy on the best implementation details. My question is: when should I open and close proxies for service calls on a website, and what should their lifetime be (per call, per request, or per web app)? We aren't planning on leveraging cached security contexts at the moment (but it's not unforeseeable). Thanks!

    I need to open window pop-up from Silverlight Out-of-Browser application. I've added parameter <param name="enablehtmlaccess" value="true" /> in Index.html, but executing this from code behind: HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri(myUrl), "_blank", myFeatures); still returns error: Silverlight OOB Error: The DOM/scripting bridge is disabled. I've read about this post, does it mean that I can't open pop-up from OOB? Why I need to do this, because actually I've shown the HTML page in OOB Silverlight by WebBrowser control within ChildWindow but when I click an anchor in HTML page, which linked to _blank page, it jumps to my default browser. It doesn't meet the requirement, except launch that HTML index page also in default browser at the first time, triggered from button control in OOB Silverlight. Is that possible? Please advice, thanks.

    Hi,I want to run a windbg script that will accomplish the following: I want to track certain registers the moment an API is hit, without stopping due to timing issues. So , the moment the API is called, I want the script to open a logfile, echo the fact that the api is hit with the details of the parameters, and let it run till it hits the conditional brkpoint I've put at the API end, which simply closes the open logfile. Now , the problem is, I want to do this multiple times, w/o the previous logfile getting overwritten. Ideally, if there is some command which lets me specify that the name of the logfile (.logfile file) by the timestamp of that moment, my problem is solved. Can anyone help?

    I want to replace the standard system open file dialog with the one I wrote, that means no matter within which programs you are opening a file, my dialog will be shown instead of the standard one, is this possible? It seems that that there is no such API provided to accomplish this, is it possible to use some hooking technique, but this has to be reliable and not to be treated as spyware by anti-virus tools? any other options? If this is not possible, is it possible to add to the spacebar or toolbar in the standard open file dialog a button which invokes my dialog, which allow users select a file and in turn returns the path of the selected file to the "File name" input box of the standard dialog? Any hits, links and code examples will be appreciated.

    Alright, so all modals already have an image at the top right to close them. How can I make additionally another anchor to do the same thing? I thought I could use the "closeClass" option which default to "simplemodal-close" and just add that class to an anchor, but it didn't have the desired effect. Is that what I'm supposed to do? Also, all modals will have a "contact us" link which should close it's own modal and open the contact modal. How can I wait until it is closed to open the next one?     Hello, I have a SQL table with a whole load of records that look like this: | Date | Score | + -----------+-------+ | 01/01/2010 | 4 | | 02/01/2010 | 6 | | 03/01/2010 | 10 | ... | 16/03/2010 | 2 | I'm plotting this on a chart, so I get a nice line across the graph indicating score-over-time. Lovely. Now, what I need to do is include the average score on the chart, so we can see how that changes over time, so I can simply add this to the mix: SELECT YEAR(SCOREDATE) 'Year', MONTH(SCOREDATE) 'Month', MIN(SCORE) MinScore, AVG(SCORE) AverageScore, MAX(SCORE) MaxScore FROM SCORES GROUP BY YEAR(SCOREDATE), MONTH(SCOREDATE) ORDER BY YEAR(SCOREDATE), MONTH(SCOREDATE) That's no problem so far. The problem is, how can I easily calculate the percentiles at each time-period? I'm not sure that's the correct phrase. What I need in total is: A line on the chart for the score (easy) A line on the chart for the average (easy) A line on the chart showing the band that 95% of the scores occupy (stumped) It's the third one that I don't get.     Is there a way to force a Bar Chart legend in Crystal Report 11.5 to display its objects in a particular order? For Example, say I am reporting on the consumption of "Bananas" and "Apples" by State. The Bar Chart should display the percentage of people who eat these fruits by county (Percent Bar Chart). The "Apples" percentage always displays on top of the bar chart and the "Bananas" on the bottom. The legend for this graph also displays the "Apple" color first, then the "Banana" color. However, if the "Banana" percentage is 0% the legend displays the "Banana" color first on the legend. This creates a inconsistent report (with plenty of complaints). I would like the "Banana" color to always display second in the legend. Hope I didn't confuse anyone and any ideas would be helpful.

    I have a URL and I want to launch it in the default browser. I've tried two methods: Process.Start("http://stackoverflow.com"); ... and the one detailed in this other question using ShellExecute. In both cases I get the error: Windows cannot find 'http://stackoverflow.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. It shouldn't be trying to open it as a file though... from what I understand, it should recognize it as a URL and open it in the default browser. What am I missing? By the way: OS = Vista, and .NET = 3.5 EDIT: According to this MS KB article, since Process.Start sets the UseShellExecute by default, it should launch the default browser.

    In my application an external website places link in my web page and the link does not have target=_blank. More specifically its iframe in my webpage whose src is another domain which I have no control. The content in this iframe contains links that opens in the same window wiping off my ajax driven web page and taking the user to the other domain. Is there a way to intercept this ( via javascript? ) and make the link open in another window or browser tab? It would be even much better if the link opens within the same iframe on my webpage. Is this possible? Is target="_self" makes the link open in the same iframe?

    I am working on a web project where client needs a functionality to first upload some MS word document & then he can compare any two of the uploaded documents. The idea I came up with is to first make the documents available using WEBDAV & then open both documents using command line with "Compare side by side" option. In this way he will be able to compare & modify two documents. The problem is, I am not able to find any command which can be run from command prompt to open two documents in compare mode. For example, if my app talks about new coffee shop openings in various cities, is there a way to publish the 'opening' action to the graph, perhaps with location / coordinates, such that this is only seen by friends in that locality?     I would like to somehow send a file from my app on one android device to my app on another device. This can be done any which way, and I'm open to suggestions if you can tell me how to send over network or something like that. Currently, I'm looking at sending the file as an email attachment, but I haven't found any good documentation on how to do it. I need two things to accomplish this, be able to send my file (stored on sd card or somewhere on device) as an attachment, and have my app recognized by android as the app to open an attachment with the file extention (.lst). Any thoughts? The files will all be fairly small xml text files if that makes a difference.

  • Which JavaScript or ASP.NET Charting Component/Tool/Library Will Work For This?

Hi, An interaction designer employed by the client I am currently working for produced some mock-ups, and now it is my job to determine the best way of implementing the charts included therein. After looking at the options I am aware of and was able to find doing some simple Google searches, I have narrowed it down to using either ComponentArt, Dundas Charts or Infragistics, simply because from what I can see of their demos, they have certain features I believe I will need to get things done. Here are the pictures from the mock-ups - ideally I need one piece of software that will cover all of these: This chart seems to be simple enough. Notice the arbitrary spacing between the years - not yet sure if this will be a sticking-point for the client or not. I don't know that I have ever seen a chart like this one - it combines the previous chart with some additional data. Here is the same chart, only this time illustrating what happens when a user mouses-over or clicks on an annotation within the chart. They want the nice styling within the pop-up, so the pop-up needs to be something like an iframe or similar. Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated, I haven't used charting controls in years, so I am at a bit of a loss and the client wants an estimate soon. Thank you!
