  • Looking for something to monitor an Internet Shared Connection in Windows XP

    If someone knows a software with these features: Works from the tray area Very lightweight Works also in Windows XP (preferably workstation, nothing serverish required) Can show a bandwidth usage graph, where I can easily see each PC's usage I can inspect a computer's connections, find out the ports and applications that are using them (eg, all bandwidth is consumed by PC #3, that's running uTorrent.exe from port 33003) ...I'd happily check it out. I'm only sharing my connection with (at most) 4 computers, I'd prefer not having to add hardware or reinstall my system. Thanks in advance!

  • Security Restrictions Downlaodeding From the Internet

    Hi, for some reason since we rolled out IE7 to the estate users are unable to download from the Internet, they get an error message "the operation could not be completed due to restrictions on the computer" I have checked the GPO and it allows downloads in the Default domain policy. I am I missing something in GPO or is this problem with IE7. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

  • How can I uninstall Fedora on a dual boot system without a Windows CD?

    I'm running a dual boot system with Windows XP and Fedora 13. I would like to uninstall Fedora 13 and remain with Windows XP only. This fedora document says I need to boot from a Windows XP installation CS to fix the MBR. Is there a way to do that without using the CD (I'm working in a company where I got my computer up and running with XP. Getting the CD will require me contact the system admins which might take some time).

  • I wanna save some terminal commands in a file

    I am using Opensuse 12.3 What I wanna do is, create a link on my desktop for some specific terminal commandos. The backround is, that I do some backup via rsync and don`t wanna type the commandos everytime new. I also dont wanna use a cronjob, since my computer isnt running everytime. Perfect would be some desktop icons, which on clicking execute the command(s). Could somebody tell me how to do this?

    I have Windows XP 32-bit installed on this computer. I just purchased a Windows 7 64-bit as an ISO download upgrade version which I promptly burned to DVD and attempted to perform an upgrade installation. Here is the error message I am getting: Firstly, where are these "Setup log files" located? Second, does this mean I need to find compatible (64-bit?) drivers for the Mainboard and put them on floppy?

    recently I found a video on the net ( a .mp4 file), and when I had it on my computer with Windows7, I noticed its thumbnail was not the average windows 7 video thumbnail (which looks like a piece of video film with a random picture from the movie), but a custom thumbnail! Looking in the file properties did not help find the correct button to change the thumbnail...so I just wonder how he did it!   • Xubuntu Running Slower than windows with constant freezing

    So I switched my computer to Ubuntu after some issues with Windows, then switched the GUI to Xubuntu after I noticed Ubuntu and Unity were painfully slow. I'm running an i5 with 8 gigs of ram and I still experience at least one full freeze (where I can't do anything and have to unplug) per week. REISUB does nothing and never has. I am constantly running Virtualbox because I still need Windows. Any thoughts to prevent this annoying freezing?

  • Hard drive is working fine then next boot up shows up as a unformatted.

    The drive is a Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB. There are no SMART errors and the drive sounds healthy. Restarted the computer from the drive working fine and then noticed that the drive had the same drive letter but has RAW as the file system. I have a few file/partition recovery software titles available but since doing any scans on this drive takes about 2.5 hours I wanted to know if any one had any advice.

    I've got an Asus Eee PC with Windows 7 starter pre-installed on it. Now, I don't have anything attached to it, no CD/USB Stick/Cables. However, I still get this error: BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Since I do not have the USB stick with the windows 7 starter OS and don't want to switch this computer to ubuntu as it is not for me, I can't follow the instructions in this tutorial.     I use firefox to visit a web server running on a computer on my LAN. I notice that sometimes TCP doesn't acknowledge the packets it receives. For example, in the following captured packets: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-LaBUj9KtQhS0RYNXF1RjZTa2M/edit?usp=sharing the 7th 9th and 11th packets are duplicated ACK, the browser receives TCP packets 6,8 and 10, but the browser TCP stack doesn't acknowledge the received packets, why?

    With a typical USB hard drive enclosure, is the full range of drive power management functionality available? In what may be an unrelated matter: is it possible to suspend a PC without unmounting an attached USB-powered drive, and then remounting it on resume? This is the behaviour I'm currently seeing (running Ubuntu linux 10.10). Are there certain models or brands that provide more complete control over this aspect of drive operation?   • Creating a Linux cluster/cloud to act as a server.

    I have about four or five machines in the Pentium 3-4 era and I'm interested in creating a Linux server comprised of these machines. The server's main purposes would be to host several low-medium traffic websites/services (voice and game), and share terabytes of data on a local network. I could probably throw together one modern computer as a server and call it a day, but I'm interested in using these machines to do it instead. Where would I get started in this cluster/cloud setup?

    So that's the serial number of my pre-installed windows copy, I take it. But am I allowed to use it again when, say, I don't know, my system gets crippled by a sneaky virus? If I format my computer and install windows starter again from a USB drive (speculating. I've never format before, I suppose is completely possible) Is that serial number still valid? I'm talking about the number printed on the back of my laptop.
