• JBoss: What does the warning EJBTHREE-1246 from the InterceptorRegistry mean?

  I am currently developing an EJB 3.0 based application on the JBoss AS 5.0.0.GA and just recently the following warning showed up in the server log: 09:50:19,735 WARN [InterceptorsFactory] EJBTHREE-1246: Do not use InterceptorsFactory with a ManagedObjectAdvisor, InterceptorRegistry should be used via the bean container 09:50:19,735 WARN [InterceptorsFactory] EJBTHREE-1246: Do not use InterceptorsFactory with a ManagedObjectAdvisor, InterceptorRegistry should be used via the bean container 09:50:19,735 WARN [InterceptorRegistry] applicable interceptors is non-existent for ... ... The warnings are generated as soon as an EJB (a stateless session bean) is injected into a backing bean of my JSF web-application. The beans do work without problems though, but I still would like to know where that warning comes from and what I can do to avoid it. • Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission' when compiling web site

  I have been using Windows 7 for a while but have not had to work with a particular legacy intranet application since my upgrade. Unfortunately, this application is setup as an ASP.NET Website project hosted on a remote server. When I have the website open in Visual Studio 2008 and try to debug it: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission' failed To resolve this issue on Windows Vista machines I would change the machine's .NET Security Configuration to trust the local intranet. I believe this configuration utility relied upon the mscorcfg.msc which from some cursory research appears to be apart of the .NET 2.0 SDK. I have tried to follow the instructions from this Microsoft Support article running the command below to no avail. Drive:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\caspol.exe -m -ag 1 -url "file:////\\computername\sharename\*" FullTrust -exclusive on Presently, I have the following .NET and ASP.NET components installed on my machine Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 1.0 Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 - Visual Studio 2008 Tools Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2 - Visual Studio 2010 Tools Do I need to install the .NET 2.0 SDK? • Setting up Mercurial/TortoiseHg to work with UltraCompare

  Hi, I'm trying to get my favorite Windows diff/merge tool, UltraCompare (V7.00) to work with Mercurial/TortoiseHg. I have set up UltraCompare in my Mercurial.ini like this (only relevant bits shown): [merge-tools] UltraCompare.executable = C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.com UltraCompare.args = $base $local $other UltraCompare.priority = 1 UltraCompare.gui = True UltraCompare.binary = True UltraCompare.checkconflicts = True UltraCompare.checkchanged = True However, the three-way-merge fails. The path names get messed up if the path to the repository that is being merged to contains a space. I have done some more testing, and I've found out (using Process Explorer) that uc.com is called with a broken command line if there is a space in the repository's path: Compare "C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.exe" " "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~base.akr6au" "E:\Eigene Dateien\test\test-merge\test.txt" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~other.b92442" and "C:\Programme\IDM Computer Solutions\UltraCompare\uc.com" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~base.e7vryp" "E:\test\test-merge\test.txt" "c:\dokume~1\tim~1.pie\lokale~1\temp\test.txt~other.u_qxme" There is an extraneous " after the path of the executable in the first example - not in the second (which works fine). To me, it seems as if UltraCompare is doing everything right, and that Mercurial/TortoiseHg are passing a defective command line to it. Would you say so, too? Is there a workaround? I've just updated to Mercurial 1.5/TortoiseHg 1.0, and the problem persists. Support for other merge tools (Beyond Compare and others) has been added, sadly not UltraCompare...

• Setting MinimumSize Attribute for a Control in a TFS WorkItem

  Tools used: Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Team Explorer Team Foundation Server Power Tools October 2008 Release. Using the Process Editor in Visual Studio, I am attempting to set the MinimumSize attribute for a control in a WorkItem template to make the default size of the input area larger. I am setting the attribute according to this website: http://msmvps.com/blogs/vstsblog/archive/2007/07/07/undocumented-attributes-for-controlling-the-work-item-form-layout.aspx No matter what I set this attribute to it has no affect. I have tried setting the attribute with and without surrounding (). I've tried different capitalization of the attribute but no luck. I have verified that the MinimumSize attribute is being correctly set in the associated xml file. The control (HtmlFieldControl) is currently setup as the second child on a Tab Page. (The first control is also an HtmlFieldControl.) I've tried adding a group to the Tab Page such that the hierarchy is TabPage-Group-Column-Control with no success. I've also tried setting the attribute for the first control with no luck. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

  My question: how can I set an ActiveX object's property via JavaScript to an enum value found in a non-ActiveX DLL? Problem description: I am instantiating an ActiveX object with the following object tag: <object classid="clsid:F338193D-2491-4D7B-80CE-03487041A278" id="VideoCapture1" width="500" height="500"></object> (This is the guid for the 3rd party ActiveX I'm using, "VisioForge_Video_Capture_4.VFVideoCapture4X") I have example C# code for using this ActiveX, which I am porting to JavaScript. Code like this works just fine: VideoCapture1.Debug_Mode = true; var devcount = VideoCapture1.Video_CaptureDevices_GetCount(); var devs = []; for (var i =0; i < devcount; ++i) { devs[devs.length] = VideoCapture1.Video_CaptureDevices_GetItem(i); } ... etc ... However, VideoCapture1 has some settings which refer to a DLL enum, like so (C# code): VideoCapture1.Mode = VisioForge_Video_Capture_4.TxVFMode.Mode_Video_Preview; I can see in Visual Web Developer that TxVFMode.Mode_Video_Preview is value 1 in the enum. However, the following JS does not appear to set the Mode properly: VideoCapture1.Mode = 1; Does anyone know how I can set VideoCapture1.Mode to the enum value found in the TxVFMode? PS: In Visual Web Developer, when I "Go to definition" on TxVFMode, I get the Guid for the enum. I thought I could create an with this Guid or instantiate a VisioForge_Video_Capture_4.TxVFMode in JS, but neither gives me a usable object.

• Is the Windows dev environment worth the cost?

  I recently made the move from Linux development to Windows development. And as much of a Linux enthusiast that I am, I have to say - C# is a beautiful language, Visual Studio is terrific, and now that I've bought myself a trackball my wrist has stopped hurting from using the mouse so much. But there's one thing I can't get past: the cost. Windows 7, Visual Studio, SQL Server, Expression Blend, ViEmu, Telerik, MSDN - we're talking thousands for each developer on the project! You're definitely getting something for your money - my question is, is it worth it? [Not every developer needs all the aforementioned tools - but have you ever heard of anyone writing C# code without Visual Studio? I've worked on pretty large software projects in Linux without having to pay for any development tool whatsoever.] Now obviously, if you're already a Windows shop, it doesn't pay to retrain all your developers. And if you're looking to develop a Windows desktop app, you just can't do that in Linux. But if you were starting a new web application project and could hire developers who are experts in whatever languages you want, would you still choose Windows as your development platform despite the high cost? And if yes, why?

• Jekyll - How to approach asset processing (minification, spriting...)

  I recently switched to Jekyll and I find the conversion pipeline works really well. However I'm stuck on which approach to take when the process is many inputs to one output (ex: concatenating CSS files, creating image sprites...) I know several tools that can do it, that can be called either from the command line or in Ruby code directly. For ex: Jammit css sprites Compass sprites My current solution is a few Jekyll plugins that call these tools. However, it has the following problems: 1. SASS files should be processed, then concatenated/minified SASS-CSS is a Converter, and the concatenation is a Generator run on the output. Unfortunately generators are run first, which means the concatenation is always a step behind (I have to run the build twice) 2. Jekyll does not know about the source/output relationship With converters, when I run Jekyll in server mode, if I change a SASS file it automatically runs the conversion to CSS. When dealing with concatenation/spriting, I haven't found a way to do the same. I end up having to run a "normal" Jekyll build (not server auto) to update the concatenated files and sprites.   What are some tools (commercial or OSS) that provide a GUI-based mechanism for creating schema upgrade scripts? To be clear, here are the tool responsibilities: Obtain connection to recent schema version (called "source"). Obtain connection to previous schema version (called "target"). Compare all schema objects between source and target. Create a script to make the target schema equivalent to the source schema ("upgrade script"). Create a rollback script to revert the source schema, used if the upgrade script fails (at any point). Create individual files for schema objects. The software must: Use ALTER TABLE instead of DROP and CREATE for renamed columns. Work with Oracle 10g or greater. Create scripts that can be batch executed (via command-line). Trivial installation process. (Bonus) Create scripts that can be executed with SQL*Plus. Here are some examples (from StackOverflow, ServerFault, and Google searches): Change Manager Oracle SQL Developer Software that does not meet the criteria, or cannot be evaluated, includes: TOAD PL/SQL Developer - Invalid SQL*Plus statements. Does not produce ALTER statements. SQL Fairy - No installer. Complex installation process. Poorly documented. DBDiff - Crippled data set evaluation, poor customer support. OrbitDB - Crippled data set evaluation. SchemaCrawler - No easily identifiable download version for Oracle databases. SQL Compare - SQL Server, not Oracle. The only acceptable crippling of the evaluation version is by time. Crippling by restricting the number of tables and views hides possible bugs that are only visible in the software during the attempt to migrate hundreds of tables and views.

• Implementing Model-level caching

  I was posting some comments in a related question about MVC caching and some questions about actual implementation came up. How does one implement a Model-level cache that works transparently without the developer needing to manually cache, yet still remains efficient? I would keep my caching responsibilities firmly within the model. It is none of the controller's or view's business where the model is getting data. All they care about is that when data is requested, data is provided - this is how the MVC paradigm is supposed to work. (Source: Post by Jarrod) The reason I am skeptical is because caching should usually not be done unless there is a real need, and shouldn't be done for things like search results. So somehow the Model itself has to know whether or not the SELECT statement being issued to it worthy of being cached. Wouldn't the Model have to be astronomically smart, and/or store statistics of what is being most often queried over a long period of time in order to accurately make a decision? And wouldn't the overhead of all this make the caching useless anyway? Also, how would you uniquely identify a query from another query (or more accurately, a resultset from another resultset)? What about if you're using prepared statements, with only the parameters changing according to user input? Another poster said this: I would suggest using the md5 hash of your query combined with a serialized version of your input arguments. This would require twice the number of serialization options. I was under the impression that serialization was quite expensive, and for large inputs this might be even worse than just re-querying. And is the minuscule chance of collision worth worrying about? Conceptually, caching in the Model seems like a good idea to me, but it seems in practicality the developer should have direct control over caching and write it into the controller. Thoughts/ideas? Edit: I'm using PHP and MySQL if that helps to narrow your focus.

• Visual Studio opening .xml files in Notepad

  So I'm happily working on a project making heavy use of custom .xml configuration files this morning. All of a sudden, whenever I double-click an .xml file in Solution Explorer, it opens in Notepad instead of within Visual Studio. Thinking that it was the Windows file associations, I right-clicked on a file in Explorer, selected Open With Choose Defaults, and selected Visual Studio 2008. But the problem remains -- now when I open a file from Explorer, Visual Studio Opens, then it opens Notepad. Needless to say, this is very frustrating, and Google is not much help. Has anyone else ever had this problem, and what did you do about it? Notes: This only happens for .xml files. Other text files (.config, .txt) open within Visual Studio just fine. This has nothing to do with Windows file associations, as Windows open up VS2008 just as it should. This is some crazy problem internal to Visual Studio. I've also tried Tools Options General Restore File Associations. No luck. Nothing present in Tools Options Text Editor File Extension This is what my "Open With" menu looks like for .xml files. As you can see, "XML Editor" is set to the default.

• How can we best represent the SDLC process as a board game?

  I recently got interested in financial board games and saw how they can be very useful in educating children about certain concepts. It got me thinking whether it was also possible to represent certain aspects of executing a software project via a boardgame and make it fun. Here are a few things that I have come up so far: human resources and tools / techniques are represented as cards. requirements are also represented as cards, which are dealt equally to each player, and the objective is to move all requirement cards through an "SDLC" board (one per player) that represent a series of squares grouped according to phases (design all the way to deployment) the passage of time is represented in a main square board like monopoly, and completing a trip around the board (passing "Go") allows the player to move each of the requirement cards a number of steps through the SDLC board depending on the capability of the resource cards (senior programmer allows one requirement to move two squares in the dev phase, junior programmer only one, etc.) players will start with play money representing the project budget, and at every pass at "Go" is payday. the player is out of the game if he runs out of funds. the main board also has "chance" / "risk" cards, which represent things that can mess up a project. damage is applied at the roll of a die, and chance modifiers depend on whether the user has "bought" tools / techniques. I haven't implemented this idea yet as I'm still looking at more play elements that can make the game more engaging, as well as soliciting for more ideas. I am planning to release this under Creative Commons license but haven't decided on the exact license yet. Any more game play suggestions are welcome. • Mix Audio tracks with offset in SOX

  From ASP.Net, I am using FFMPEG to convert flv files on a Flash Media Server to wavs that I need to mix into a single MP3 file. I originally attempted this entirely with FFMPEG but eventually gave up on the mixing step because I don't believe it it possible to combine audio only tracks into a single result file. I would love to be wrong. I am now using FFMPEG to access the FLV files and extract the audio track to wav so that SOX can mix them. The problem is that I must offset one of the audio tracks by a few seconds so that they are synchronized. Each file is one half of a conversation between a student and a teacher. For example teacher.wav might need to begin 3.3 seconds after student.wav. I can only figure out how to mix the files with SOX where both tracks begin at the same time. My best attempt at this point is: ffmpeg -y -i rtmp://server/appName/instance/student.flv -ac 1 student.wav ffmpeg -y -i rtmp://server/appName/instance/teacher.flv -ac 1 teacher.wav sox -m student.wav teacher.wav combined.mp3 splice 3.3 These tools (FFMEG/SoX) were chosen based on my best research, but are not required. Any working solution would allow an ASP.Net service to input the two FMS flvs and create a combined MP3 using open-source or free tools.

  I submitted my app a little over a week ago and got the dreaded rejection email today. It reads as follows: Dear -----------, Thank you for submitting --------- to the App Store. Unfortunately it cannot be added to the App Store because it is using a private API. Use of non-public APIs, which as outlined in the iPhone Developer Program License Agreement section 3.3.1 is prohibited: "3.3.1 Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs." The non-public API that is included in your application is firstResponder. Regards, iPhone Developer Program Now, the offending API call is actually a solution I found here on SO: UIWindow *keyWindow = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] keyWindow]; UIView *firstResponder = [keyWindow performSelector:@selector(firstResponder)]; So this is my question; How do I get the current first responder on the screen? • Looking for Bugtracker with specific features

  Hi, we're looking into bugtracking systems at our firm. We're quite small (4 developers only). On the other hand we have quite a large number of customers we develop individual software for. Most software is built explicitly for one customer, apart from two or three standard tools we ship. To make support easier for us (and to avoid being interrupted by phone calls all the time) we're looking for a bugtracker that must support a specific set of features. We want the customers to report bugs/feature/change requests themselves and be notified about these reports by email. Then we'd like to track what we've done and how much time it took, notifying the customer about that per email (private notes for just us must be possible). At the end of the month we'd like to bill all closed reports according to the time it took to solve/implement them. The following must be possible: It must have a web based interface where the users must log in with credentials we provide. The users must not be able to create accounts themselves/we must be able to turn off such a feature. We must be able to configure projects and assign customer logins to these projects. The customers must only see projects they are assigned to, not any other projects. Also, customers must not "see" other customers. We would name the projects, so that standard tools are listed as separate projects for each customer. A monthly report must be available that we can use to get information about the requests we worked on per customer. I'd like to introduce some standard product like Mantis (I've played with that a little, but didn't quite figure out whether it provides all the features I listed above). The product should be Open Source and work on a XAMPP Windows Server 2003 environment. Does anybody have any good suggestions?

• Please help me with a Git workflow

  I'm an SVN user hoping to move to Git. I've been reading documentation and tutorials all day, and I still have unanswered questions. I don't know if this workflow will make sense, but here's my situation, and what I would like to get out of my workflow: Multiple developers, all developing locally on their work stations 3 versions of the website: Dev, Staging, Production Here's my dream: A developer works locally on his own branch, say "developer1", tests on his local machine, and commits his changes. Another developer can pull down those changes into his own branch. Merge developer1 - developer2. When the work is ready to be seen by the public, I'd like to be able to "push" to Dev, Staging, or Production. git push origin staging or maybe.. git merge developer1 staging I'm not sure. Like I said, I'm still new to it. Here are my main questions: -Do my websites (Dev, Staging, Production) have to be repositories? And do they have to be "bare" in order to be the recipients of new changes? -Do I want one repository or many, with several branches? -Does this even make sense, or am I on the wrong path? I've read a lot of tutorials, so I'm really hoping someone can just help me out with my specific situation. Thanks so much!

• SQLite for personal use

  What are the applications for your personal use that needs a small database like SQLite? I am thinking of trying a few popular databases and SQLite is surely the first one I am planning to try since I know barely nothing about database except some simple programming years ago. I learned that SQLite is good for personal use. But embarrassingly I do not see any application except maybe managing my list of phone numbers/contact info, which has probably a few hundred items. What's your experience? FYI, I use EndNote for my reference and softcopy of books, and I feel iTunes' music/media management is ok since I am not a frequent user anyway. And others? I do lots of coding, but I just use some simple etags tools for that. And I pretty much use .txt file (sometimes in the asciidoc style) for my notes. I have quite a bunch of notes, but not that many either. So, really, what are your personal applications that need a small database instead of existing tools and plain text files?

  Hello, I am trying to run a java task from ant. I am trying to run the "org.apache.tools.ant.launch.Launcher" class. I keep on getting the "NoClassDefFoundError" without any class name being specified. [java] Java Result: 1 Now I am trying to run an ant class from an ant jar and i specifiy the classpath where this class file resides using the "classpathref" attribute, however I still get this message. I checked the ant jar to check the Manifest and the "main" class is specified properly (it's "org.apache.tools.ant.launch.Launcher") . I have exhausted all my resources. The platform is: Windows 2003 SP2 + IIS6 FastCGI for Windows 2003 (original RTM build) PHP 5.2.6 Non thread-safe build There aren't any issues with session data files being cleared up on the server as sessions expire. The oldest sess_XXXXXXXXXXXXXX file I'm seeing is around 2 hours old. There are no disk timeouts evident in the event logs or other such disk health issues that might suggest difficulty creating session data files. The site is also on a server that isn't under heavy load. The site is busy but not being hammered and is very responsive. It's just that we get these errors, three or four in a row, every three or four hours. I should also add that I'm not the original developer of this code and that it belongs to a customer who's developer has long since departed.

  When you add a VSTO (not Word native) content control, you specify the name: controls.AddContentControl(wordRange, "foo", wdType); Where controls is the VSTO (extended) Document.Controls collection. You can later look up the control by name: ContentControl myContentControl = controls["foo"]; So why in the world is there no Name property for ContentControl? (or ContentControlBase, or any of the other derivatives). I'm implementing a wrapper class for the Document.Controls property that lets you add or iterate the content controls. When iterating the underlying Document.Controls, there's no way to look up the name of each control. (We need it to return an instance of our ContentControl wrapper). • Trouble Running Leaks Instrument

  I'm having trouble running the Leaks Instrument since installing the 3.0 SDK. An NDA disclaimer here I don't think this is a 3.0 SDK issue, just a configuration problem. So I'm looking for advice on configuring the tools in question not the 3.0 SDK per se. Here’s the breakdown of the behavior I am seeing. My Application is compiled to OS version 2.2. I can run it out of XCode in debug mode on the Simulator and Device running 2.2, 2.2.1, 3.0. If I start it with Performance Tools - Leaks, I get an error message from the OS, “The application xxxx quit unexpectedly”, “Ignore, Report, Relaunch.” If I click “Ignore” one of two things will happen, either Leaks tells me it couldn’t attach, or Leaks stop responding to input and I have to Force Quit. Interesting thing is the Simulator starts in 3.0 OS. If I start Instruments Manually and attach to a running 2.2 Simulator it shows the same behavior. If I attach Leaks to an iPhone Device it works. It seems that once I launch Leaks my app won't run in the simulator until I do a new build. Any ideas for getting my Simulator/Leaks/Xcode synced back up? Thanks, Geoff

• Which software for intranet CMS - Django or Joomla?

  In my company we are thinking of moving from wiki style intranet to a more bespoke CMS solution. Natural choice would be Joomla, but we have a specific architecture. There is a few hundred people who will use the system. System should be self explainable (easier than wiki). We use a lot of tools web, applications and integrated within 3rd party software. The superior element which is a glue for all of them is API. In example for the intranet tools we do use Django, but it's used without ORM, kind of limited to templates and url - every application has an adequate methods within our API. We do not use the Django admin interface, because it is hardly dependent on ORM. Because of that Joomla may be hard to integrate. Every employee should be able to edit most of the pages, authentication and privileges have to be managed by our API. How hard is it to plug Joomla to use a different authentication process? (extension only - no hacks) If one knows Django better than Joomla, should Django be used?

READ EVERYTHING I SAY AND SEE IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITHOUT VISITING THE LINK. AVG PICKS UP ON IT AND BLOCKS IT, MCAFEE DOES NOT. Sorry about the warning, obviously i'm not here to get anyone infected or anything like that. Basically I run the website sortitoutsi dot net. Ages ago I got a virus on my computer, they got hold of my FTP passwords and added some lines of javascript to the top of my site. I removed them and believe it was fixed. However i'm using the "Web Developer" extension for Firefox and chose to view all javascript on my page and find there are various links to horrible urls such as: gittigidiyor-com.excite.co.jp.webmasterworld-com.eastmusicdirect.ru:8080/aboutus.org/aboutus.org/google.com/skycn.com/torrents.ru.php and gittigidiyor-com.excite.co.jp.webmasterworld-com.eastmusicdirect.ru:8080/index.php?jl= These terms do not appear anywhere. In the source code, in any of the javascript or the css. I also can't see that there are any rogue images that I don't recognise either. So i've no idea where this javascript is coming from. Can anyone suggest how I can find references to these links and remove them? I can see them both in the Web Developer firefox extension and in the net tab using Firebug. Any help would be greatly appreciated
