  • why doesn't winmain set the errorlevel?

    int APIENTRY _tWinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPTSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { MessageBox(NULL, _T("This should return 90 no?"), _T("OK"), MB_OK); return 90; } Why does the above program correctly display the message box, but does not set the error level? I compile this program to the name a.exe. Then from command prompt I type: c:\> a.exe (message box is displayed, I press ok) c:\> echo %ERRORLEVEL% 0 I get the same results if I do exit(90); right before the return. It still says 0. I also tried to start the program via CreateProcess and obtain the result with GetExitCodeProcess but it also returns 0 to me. I did error checking to ensure it was all started correctly. I originally seen this problem in a more complex program. But made this simple program to verify the problem. Results are the same, both programs that have WinMain return 0 always. I tried both x64, x86 and unicode and MBCS compiling options. All give 0 as an error level/status code.

  • Why this base64 function stop working when increasing max length?

    I am using this class to encode/decode text to base64. It works fine with MAX_LEN up to 512 but if I increase it to 1024 the decode function returns and empty var.     Whenever Resharper encounters code like this: (treeListNode.Tag as GridLine).AdvertiserSeparation = 5; it presents you with a possible fix (since treeListNode.Tag as GridLine might be null). It says: 'Replace with Direct Cast', which turns the code into the following: ((GridLine) treeListNode.Tag).AdvertiserSeparation = 5; This is great. However, when it encounters code like this: GridLine line = treeListNode.Tag as GridLine; line.AdvertiserSeparation = 5; Resharper simply displays a warning 'Possible System.NullReferenceException', but does not offer me to 'Replace with Direct Cast'. Is there a way to make Resharper offer me this refactoring, since it already has it?

  • MS Access 2003 - Is there a way to programmatically define the data for a chart?

    So I have some VBA for taking charts built with the Form's Chart Wizard, and automatically inserting it into PowerPoint Presentation slides. I use those chart-forms as sub forms within a larger forms that has parameters the user can select to determine what is on the chart. The idea is that the user can determine the parameter, build the chart to his/her liking, and click a button and have it in a ppt slide with the company's background template, blah blah blah..... So it works, though it is very bulky in terms of the amount of objects I have to use to accomplish this. I use expressions such as the following: like forms!frmMain.Month&* to get the input values into the saved queries, which was fine when i first started, but it went over so well and they want so many options, that it is driving the number of saved queries/objects up. I need several saved forms with charts because of the number of different types of charts I need to have this be able to handle. SO FINALLY TO MY QUESTION: I would much rather do all this on the fly with some VBA.   • Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

    Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

  • Reference platform specific System.Data.SQLite

    I am using SQLite for the unit testing and might use it as a database for local development/staging. The System.Data.SQLite has basically 2 versions: x86 and x64. Correct one should be used for the specific platform. I have 64 bit Win7, other guys in the team might use 32-bit OSs. The server's platform is not known at this stage. If I use 32-bit version of the assembly on 64-bit platform I get BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SQLite'. I believe similar will happen trying to use 64-bit assembly on 32-bit platform. So my question is what is the best way to reference the SQLite assembly so that it does not depend on the platform and people can just use it? It is ok to use 32-bit version of assembly on a 64-bit platform (Maybe there is a switch for that somewhere?).

  • Can I use VS2010's Intellitrace to gather data for a Windows Service?

    I have a Windows service that I'd like to gather some debugging data on using Intellitrace - the problem is that you can't debug a Windows Service by starting it directly from inside VS. I have the service installed, and the very first statement in Service.Start is "Debug.Break", which allows me to attach VS. However, you can't use Intellitrace if a process is already started when you attach. Does anybody know of a workaround for this?

  • In VisualStudio 2008, emacs mode - how can you enable "overwrite"?

    Using VisualStudio 2008, have emacs keyboard mapping scheme enabled. If I select text and try to paste over it, it INSERTS the new text, rather than replacing it. Also, if I select text and hit DELETE it deletes the first character AFTER the selected text (just as if I didn't have any text selected). Does anyone know how to fix this so that I get the standard windows behavior. That is: If I select text and try to paste over it, it replaces the selected text with what I pasted in. If I select text and hit the DELETE key, it actually deletes the text I have selected Thanks! Abby

  • VS 2010 Class Diagram Error "The type cannot be edited..."

    A few of the classes on a VS 2010 class diagram are displayed with a red title. The Class Details window shows all of the methods, properties, fields and correctly shows no events. However, there's an entry under each of methods, properties, fields and events that states where the name should be: "The type cannot be edited because the source code file contains an error." However, the source file builds with no errors or warnings. Anyone seen this? Any idea how to fix it?

  • Where does IE store the ASP.NET_SessionId cookie?

    I am a bit baffled here; using IE7, ASP.NET 2.0 and Cassini (the VS built-in web server; although the same thing seems to be true for "real" applications deployed in IIS) I am looking for the session-id-cookie. My test page shows a session id (by printing out Session.SessionId) and Response.Cookies.Keys contains ASP.NET_SessionId. So far so good. But I cannot find the cookie in IEs cookie-store! Nor does "remove all cookies" reset the session (as it does in FF)... So where - I am tempted to write that four letter word - does IE store that bloody cookie? Or am I missing something? By the way there is no hidden field with a session id either, as far as I can see. If I check in FF there is a cookie called ASP.NET_SessionId as I would expect. And as mentioned above deleting that cookie does start a new session; as I would expect. Can anybody imagine what is happening here?

Additionally, I was not able to figure out any blogs which explains this API in breadth and depth of it. The knowledge gained by understanding the API can also be used for writing custom FxCop rules. Does anybody knows about any blog or resources which explains the same?

  • error C2512 in precompiled header file?

    I'm having a ridiculously strange problem. When I try to run the program below, there's an error message that says: "error C2512: 'Record' : no appropriate default constructor available". And when I double-click it, it directs me to a precompiled read-only header file named "xmemory0". Do they expect me to change a read-only file?   • F10 isn't working properly in VS2005

    When project is stopped (not in the debugging state) and you press F10, normally the debugging session starts and VS stops at the entry point (e.g. Program.Main). That always worked for me in VS2005 and works OK in VS2008. But recently that stopped working in my VS2005 - the project just runs as if I pressed F5, so I have to place a breakpoint at Program.Main when I need to stop at the entry point. Though it continues to work as it should in my VS2008. I suspect, that's because I installed Reflector add-in and it changed some settings in VS2005, but I just can't find out which settings. Also, disabling that add-in has no effect on my issue :-( Please help, thanks in advance.

He mentions that the modal dialog in MFC is not strictly modal, but implemented as a modeless dialog(internally) with bells and whistles to make it behave as a modal one. Specifically, he says: The MFC command routing mechanism uses a combination of message maps and virtual functions to achieve what it does and a true modal dialog will totally wreck this mechanism because then the modal message loop is controlled outside the scope of the MFC command routing machinery Could anyone elucidate this statement? An example of what would have gone wrong if they had tried to implement a truly modal dialog would greatly clear things up.

  • How do I track the method the user is looking at in VS 2010 IDE as an Addin

    I have been wandering around the object model for VS 2010 and haven't been able to work out the best method for watching what the user is looking at in the main edit window. I know that each Class/method/property is broken down into its own . What I would ideally like is to hook to an event which says "The user has moved the cursor onto Project.Class.Method" and ideally "and is looking at line 4". Any suggestions?
