    Hi, Given an object X; I want this object to have an image. The image must be stored in the database. I can't store the path, the actual image must be in the database. My question can be answered by answering the following subquestions: a) What type of field should I put in the database? (e.g VARCHAR) b) What type of object should I use for storing and manipulating the image (at an object layer)? (e.g java.awt.Image) c) How do I create an object of the type selected (answer of question b) from the data obtained from the database? d) How do I save an object of the type selected (answer of question b) to the database? e) How do I draw the image on a web page? I am using postgresql, java and it is a web application. Thanks!

  • Silverlight calling windows workflow foundation as a web service

    hi, I'm trying to call a windows workflow foundation published as a web service from a Silverlight project. When I call it from a console application it works fine because I can add a web reference then I just make an instance of that webservice then I invoke the method I want.   • Conventional Approaches for Passing Data to Back-End?

    Hi guys, I'm fairly new to web development, so please pardon the painfully newbie question that's about to follow. My computer science class group and I are developing a web application for class, which is built in Python (under Django) and uses jQuery on the front end. It's primarily an AJAX-ified application, and passing data from the backend to the front end is done through AJAX calls to specific URLs which return JSON. This is probably a stupid question, but what's the conventional approach for passing data in the opposite direction? We don't want to reload the page or anything, so is it an AJAX pass going the other way or something? Thanks in advance for your help!

    I'm using Eclipse Juno to create jax-ws webservice on WebSphere® Application Server V8.5 Tools. The WebService sometimes are created but most often he fails to create wsdl. For exemplify, i try to create a simple webservice named Web: import javax.jws.WebMethod; import javax.jws.WebService; @WebService public class Web { @WebMethod public String getName() { return "myName"; } } After deploy this webservice and viewing WebSphere administration page not exists any service named WebService. I tried too access the generated WebSphere wsdl from the url localhost:9080/MyProject/WebService/WebService.wsdl but this not exists. My project have a configured MANIFEST file that contains: Manifest-Version: 1.0 UseWSFEP61ScanPolicy: true I'm actually using servlet 3.0 but tried with 2.3. Anyone can help me to do WebSphere approprieate scan annotations of ws-jax and create wsdl on server?

  • Exposing some live data on a website - New to ASP.NET, need guidelines

    I have a large .NET based system running within the company intranet, which allows winforms users to see some live calculated numbers and a custom winforms control drawn live (but not real-time). The Forms users can also affect the operation of the system. I would like to just show the live numbers on a website, along with the custom control. Nothing needs to come back from the web user, as the web app is meant to be just for monitoring. All the numbers can be calculated at the server. It's been a long time since I touched ASP.NET, and I need to know how to proceed. What are the steps in building and deploying such a website? Any caveats I need to look out for?

  • Notepad++ Question

    I would like a hotkey to Save All in Notepad++ then switch to the browser and refresh the page. I have to do this thousands of times a day and doing the Save All hotkey, then Alt-Tab to the right window, then F5 to refresh again and again, there must be a better solution? I am open to switching editors if there is another that can do this. I have tried using run commands but the problem is although it allows you to make something like [firefox.exe "current file"], if you come down to wanting to open it at a web address like localhost because it needs to run server side, then you have to manually specify the other part of the string, like [chrome.exe "custom var(web address) / filename"] and it always opens a new tab, then creates lots of clutter. Also, if you are editing an include file then it will try to open that instead of the page you want to see when you use the run command, a refresh would be the only realistic method I can think of using.

  • Treating a fat webservice in .net 3.5 c#

    I'm dealing with an obese 3rd party webservice that returns about 3mb of data for a simple search results, about 50% of the data in that response is junk. Would it make sense then to remap this data to my own result object and ditch the response so I'm storing 1-2 mb in memory for filtering and sorting rather than using the web-responses own object and using 2-4 or am I missing a point? So far I've been accessing the webservice from a separate project and using a new class to provide the interaction and to handle the persistence so my project looks like this |- Web (mvc2 proj) |- DAL (database/storage fluent-nhibernate) |- SVCGateway (interaction layer + webservice related models) |- Services -------------- |- Tests |- Specs I'm trying to make the application behave fast and I also need to store the result set temporarily in case a customer goes to view the product and wants to go back to the results. (Service returns only 500 of possible 14K results). So basically I'm looking for confirmation that I'm doing the right thing in pushing the results into my own objects or if I'm breaking some rule or even if there's a better way of handling it.   • Using Remote Web Server to Initialize iPhone App

    My iPhone app relies on a vendor's XML feed to provide data. But that feed is not locked down. The vendor could change the format of the XML at any time, although so far they've promised not to. Since I might want to tell my app to use a different URL for its data source, I'd like to set up a single "Command Central" Web page, on my own server, to direct the app to the correct data source. In other words, each time my app starts, in the background and unseen by the user, it would visit "http://www.myserver.com/iphoneapp_data_sources.xml" to retrieve the URL for retrieving data from my vendor. That way, if my vendor suddenly changes the exact URL or the XML feed that the app needs, I can update that Web page and ensure that all installations of the app are using the correct XML feed. Does anyone have any advice or examples showing this kind of approach? It seems as if this must be a common problem, but so far I haven't found a well-established design pattern that fits it.

    I need to upload image files and store them on the webserver, then be able to display them in html. I'm currently using AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory to get a path to read and write files. Firefox won't display the image as I just get an img tag with "src='C:...' Is it possible to read/write files like this with Visual Studio web server? I know it'll be possible with IIS, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to (pretty new to web development) I'm implementing this with ASP.Net MVC 2, but I don't think that is relevant.

  • .NET desktop App remembering login to a webservice

    I am in the planning stages of a .NET desktop app that will communicate with a web service. The web service requires a username and password, and a common feature in this sort of app is to save the user's credentials for the next logon. I've thought of a few ways of achieving this, but I am not sure what the most secure way would be. Should it be stored encrypted in a file (and could someone nefarious copy that file to their own machine and hence logon as the original person), or in the registry somehow (I've not done any registry work before, is it secure and would it work)? Are there any other options I might not have thought of?

Now,there are some images in my file system,and I save its absolute path in the db. Like this; id name address image 1 xxxx xxxx C:/images/xxx.jpg Now if the entity is retrived,its image should be displayed in the page. How to make it? What I thought is copy the image under the web server dir,then build its url,then the page can render it. But I wonder if this is a good idea? Is there any other way?

    I am not fortunate to have access to Apple Safari 3.0 [which has a WebKit version < 525]. Would someone kindly test a Web page for me, it will return your userAgent string and a simple pass:fail. In WebKit versions < 525.… [<= Apple Safari 3.0] it should fail and = 525.… [= Apple Safari 3.1] it should pass.   • Is it possible to suppress the IE standard login dialog when Windows Authentication is enabled?

    Hello, i have a web application with Windows Authentication enabled. In my web.config I restrict the access with the following code: <authorization> <allow users="rba\eigg"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> When I call the application in a browser, the IE's standard login dialog pops up and if I close it by cancel I get the HTTP 401 (Access is denied) error page. Is there a way to suppress the login dialog so that the user gets the 401 error page directly? Thanks! Rocko

  • Why does placing this html within form tags change the layout?

    I'm using this free Web Template - EliteCircle and have just incorporated it into a master page. The master page wraps the html in: <form id="form1" runat="server"> //master page html </form> The template almost comes out fine except the entire page is surrounded by a think white border (default CSS behavior for form?) and the footer background is half white on the very bottom. I wouldn't expect the form with id=form1 to change anything in the layout. There is nothing in the [CSS][2] with that id. When I remove the form tags from the master page (just to check) the layout is perfect, no problems. Any ideas?   • How to structure web application with part of it being secured (SSL)

    What is the common pattern to structure web application where part of it has to be secured. So lets say I have page_a and page_b which do not need to be secured, although should display login information (login fields or login details once user logged in). This web app. also would have secured pages (admin, checkout or similar) secure_page_c and secure_page_d. My questions are: What is the common folder structure for such assuming I code in php with no frameworks? Also how shall I deal with session variables in case user navigates lets say from secure_page_b to non secure page_a or vice versa?   • Is XML-RPC bad used as a protocol for a public API implementation?

    I need to implement a web API for a project I'm working on in this period. I read there are many standard protocols to do it: XML-RPC, SOAP, REST. Apparently, the XML-RPC one is the easiest one to implement and use from what I saw, but I didn't find anything about using it to implement an API. Instead I found many tutorial about creating a REST API in PHP, for example. Is there any counter-indication for using XML-RPC to implement a public web API? Also, more generally speaking, I could (sort of) define a custom protocol for my API, to keep things simpler (i.e. accepting only GET request containing the parameters I need): would this be so bad? Is using a standard protocol a must-do?

    I'm thinking of making a little web tool for analyzing the search engine optimization and web accessiblity of a whole website. First of all, this is just a private tool for now. Crawling a whole website takes up alot of resources and time. I've found out that wget is the best option for downloading the markup for a whole site. I plan on using PHP/MySQL (maybe even CodeIgniter), but I'm not quite sure if that's the right way to do it. There's always someone who recommends Python, Ruby or Perl. I only know PHP and a little bit Rails. I've also found a great HTML DOM parser class in PHP on SourceForge. But, the thing is, I need some feedback on what I should and should not do. Everything from how I should make the crawl process to what I should be checking for in regards to SEO and WCAG. So, what comes to your mind when you hear this?
