  • Set textarea selection in Internet Explorer

    I'm looking for a way to set a selection in a textarea in Internet Explorer. In other browsers, this works just fine: textarea.selectionStart = start; textarea.selectionEnd = end; In IE, I assume I have to use createRange and adjust the selection somehow, but I cannot figure out how. Extra bonus points for a link to a proper documentation about createRange and associated methods, MSDN isn't helping out much.

  • Localizing non-breaking space in Windows 8

    I'm trying to localize a Windows 8 Metro style app as described in a guide on MSDN. This worked very well so far, but now I'm trying to localize a string containing a non-breaking space which appears in a XAML file (originally as hexadecimal xml-escaped string: &#x00a0). Just putting the above string into the Resources.resw file does not work, it appears just as &#x00a0. What do I have to do to get a non-breaking space in my localizations?

    Hi, I have a requirement to show a list of all users along with the Last Activity Date. The application is .Net based. I found the MemberShip class provides the Last Activity date. However, this does not work when the MemberShip provider is ActiveDirectory Link to MSDN page because the ActiveDirectoryMemberShipUser does not implement the LastActivityDate property. Is there any workaround or other way, I can get the LastActivityDate of the user in the application. Thanks for any info

From the msdn: The IEquatable(T) interface is used by generic collection objects such as Dictionary(TKey, TValue), List(T), and LinkedList(T) when testing for equality in such methods as Contains, IndexOf, LastIndexOf, and Remove. If you dont implement that interface what exactly happens?? Exception / default object equals / ref equals?

    I am reading the Asp.net security documentation on msdn.I come across these tow terms and get really confused. # WindowsIdentity = WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent(), which returns the identity of the security context of the currently executing Win32 thread. # Thread = Thread.CurrentPrincipal which returns the principal of the currently executing .NET thread which rides on top of the Win32 thread.

    What do I have to do to disable all system pop-ups in WinCE 6 R2? I read Mike Hall's post about Kiosk mode [1] but that's not going to work for us because we still want the standard graphical Explorer shell.   • Why "Finalize method should not reference any other objects" ?

    I have been pondering why it is recommended that we should not release managed resources inside finalize. If you see the code example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.suppressfinalize.aspx , and search for string "Dispose(bool disposing) executes in two distinct scenarios" and read that comment, you will understand what I mean. Only possibility I can think of is that it probably has something to do with the fact that it is not possible to predict when finalizer will get called. Does anyone know the right answer ? thanks, mishal

    I would like to know why the Visual C++ compiler gets me an warning/error if I use the following code: #pragma message( "You have " _MSC_FULL_VER ) Here is what I get: error C2220: warning treated as error - no 'object' file generated warning C4081: expected ':'; found ')' The problem reproduces for _MSC_FULL_VER or _MSV_VER but not if I try to use others like __FILE__ or __DATE__.     So I installed a trial of SQL Server 2008 enterprise edition while waiting for MSDN licenses to come through - I now want to uninstall the trial and replace it with a developer edition installation. However, I'd like to first know how long I have left on the trial. Is there a way to do this programmatically with SQL? I looked at create_date in sys.databases, but these give dates that are in 2003 (which is, I guess, when master and model were originally created).

    This is another exam related question. I want to know how can I use the AssemblyName class to represent an existing assembly that already exists on disk??? I am talking about from the perspective of using the AppDomain's instance method .Load(), that takes an AssemblyName object as a parameter. I know what MSDN has to say about what the .Load() method was designed for but that aside, I still want to know how to use it !!!

This has been discussed here in 2007 http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/devdocs/thread/1d0c4259-a1ec-44e7-8e37-ec936dfde854 the author said it would be solved but I downloaded the package a few days ago to try it and still get this error. Anybody uses Sandcastle Help File Builder ?
