• SQLServer Binary Data with ActiveRecord and JDBC

  I'm using the activerecord-jdbc-adapter with ActiveRecord to be able to access a SQLServer database for Rails Application running under jRuby and am having trouble inserting binary data. The Exception I am getting is below. Note I just have a blurb for the binary data from the fixtures that was working fine for MySQL. ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ActiveRecord::ActiveRecordError: Operand type clash: nvarchar is incompatible with image: INSERT INTO blobstorage_datachunks ([id], [datafile_id], [chunk_number], [data]) VALUES (369397133, 663419003, 0, N'GIF89a@') When I created the tables the migration had binary and SQLServer used Image instead. We're using Rails 2.3.5, SQLServer Express 2008. What I'm looking for is a way to get the binary data into SQLServer with ActiveRecord. Thanks in advance for the help.

• File I/O OS handling

  This isn't a direct coding question but more of a OS handling mechanism. I was reading somebody's previous question regarding C# and file handling. Apparently C# was throwing an exception regarding a file being locked when trying to access this. So my question is, does C# use an internal lock to handle file I/O between processes, or does the OS use some type of mutual exclusion for file I/O? From what I learned about operating systems, well at least unix, is that the OS doesn't implement any type of mutual exclusion for processes trying to access the same file.

• Getting the count of rows in a Java resultset

  Hello Does anyone know a better way of getting the number of rows in a Java resultset returned from a MySQL database? I'm currently using this: public static int getResultSetRowCount(ResultSet resultSet) { int size = 0; try { resultSet.last(); size = resultSet.getRow(); resultSet.beforeFirst(); } catch(Exception ex) { return 0; } return size; } But am open to alternatives. The resultset returned is not going to be the total number of rows read from the database so I don;t think I can use SQL COUNT. Thanks Mr Morgan.

• Java ServerSocket Multiple Listen Instances

  i have a java game app that uses sockets to communicate with each other. the issue is when i do a socket listen (server), i can run another instance of the game on the same machine using the same port as before to listen, and it results in listening again. now i have two instances of the application both listening on the same port. you can imagine only one connects when a connection comes through. the question is: how do i prevent the app from listening on the same port as another instance is already listening to? thanks in advance. EDIT: serverSocket = new ServerSocket(serverPort, backlog); im using this. should i try to use: ServerSocket(int port, int backlog, InetAddress bindAddr) instead? EDIT: SOLVED! i did not handle the exception only trapped it. now it is working well. thanks for your inputs.

• Silverlight Cannot find XML data source

  Hello.. I am very new to Silverlight development. I understand that this is client side technology therefore the paradyme is differant from that of conventional ASP.NET development. Having said that, I don't understand where my server side code is deployed. I have a silver light \ MVC application. I am trying to read an XML document from within my 'Models' folder. The following peice of code is executed from within a class that is in the same location as the XML document, 'Models'. The load() results in a SystemIOFileNotFound exception. I noticed that when building the application the XML document is not laid down in the same location as the web project's assembly. I assume this is specific to the fact that this is a Silverlight project. • Problem with SqlServer 2005 when openning connections

  I have a Winforms application and I use EntLib to connect to a SQL Server 2005 DB. The application is working ok, but somethings, and lately more often, we have started receiving this error from the db when openning the connection: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) The problem is intermittent. The user works nice for a couple of hours and then suddenly the exception is thrown. Sometimes it happens when we run a small process that loads a file and then inserts the data to the db. Please if anybody has any thought on this help me

• System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement not working on the server

  I am using System.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement to find the logged-in user's AD entry. It is working great in the VS2008 WebDev server on developers machines. But when we installed the code on the development server (windows server 2008), we get an access error. Both the developer's machine and the development server are members of the same domain. We have Impersonation turned on, so we are connecting to AD with the same user credentials. What are we missing here? Why is it working on the developer's machine, but not the development server? The actual exception that we were receiving was "An operations error occurred".

• unable to find an entry point named 'interlockedexchange'

  Hi , I built an application in c# vs2005 .net . Everything works fine when i run the application in win 32 bit, But when running the application in win 64 it crashes while trying to call the pinvoke interlockedexchange(which is within the kernel32.dll) function . This is the exception : unable to find an entry point named 'interlockedexchange' I didnt find the interlockedexchange function within the kernel32.dll under system32 directory but it was found under the syswow64 directory(in the kernel32.dll) . I guess that the .net runtime is configured to the system32 directory and not to the syswow64 . How is it possible to change this configuration ? Can you think of any other problem that could cause this? any help would be appreciated! thanks , Miki Amit

• [Ruby] Why do I have to URI.encode even safe characters for Net::HTTP requests?

  I was trying to send a GET request to Twitter (user ID replaced for privacy reasons) using Net::HTTP: url = URI.parse("http://api.twitter.com/1/friends/ids.json?user_id=12345") resp = Net::HTTP.get_response(url) this throws an exception in Net::HTTP: NoMethodError: undefined method empty?' for #<URI::HTTP:0x59f5c04> from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/net/http.rb:1470:ininitialize' just by coincidence, I stumbled upon a similar code snippet, which used URI.encode prior to URI.parse, so I copied that and tried again: url = URI.parse(URI.encode("http://api.twitter.com/1/friends/ids.json?user_id=12345")) resp = Net::HTTP.get_response(url) now it works fine, but why? There are no reserved characters that need escaping in the URL I mentioned, so why do I have to call URI.encode for get_response to succeed?

• Using MS Moles with datacontext and stored procedures without using a Connection string.

  I have just begun to work with MS Moles for testing and I have followed the idea/pattern in which jcollum(thanks) uses a Mole for a table in this stackoverflow question here. But I am having a problem as I do not want to have to pass a connection string when I use the datasource as such: using (TheDataContext dataContext = new TheDataContext(myConnectionString)) { dataContext.ExecuteStoredprocedure(value, ref ValueExists); } I really like the fact that I just need to mole the table and everything else is done for me. I realize I could just mole the ExecuteStoredProcedure method, but I am wondering if I could just somehow avoid the sql exception I am getting here when I do not pass in the connection string. Or, if I there is a better way to do this? Therefore, does anyone have a solution so that I can avoid placing in the connection string? Thanks in advance.

• Is it possible to read to a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net app?

  I'm trying to read a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net 3.5 app and I'm not being successful on that. First of all, when I'm registering the odbc, as a user or system dsn, the Microsoft Paradox ODBC Driver only display versions up to 5.x, so it looks like that it does not support Paradox version 7.x. At connectionsstrings.com I've found the connection string that is supposed to work with Paradox 7.x: Provider=MSDASQL;Persist Security Info=False;Mode=Read; Extended Properties='DSN=Paradox;DBQ=C:\mydbfolder; DefaultDir=C:\mydbfolder;DriverId=538;FIL=Paradox 7.X;MaxBufferSize=2048; PageTimeout=600;';Initial Catalog=C:\mydbfolder But when I try to test the connection using a Data Adapter I get the following exception: "ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified" I have specified the ODBC as a user DSN and as a System DSN as well but kept receiving the same error.   I have a problem to decide which layer in my system should create DataContext. I have read a book, saying that if do not pass the same DataContext object for all the database updates, it will sometimes get an exception thrown from the DataContext. That's why i initially create new instance of DataContext in business layer, and pass it into data access layer. So that the same datacontext is used for all the updates. But this lead to one design problem, if i wanna change my DAL to Non-LinqToSQL in future, i need to re-write the code in business layer as well. Please give me some advice on this. Thanks.   Form, Redirect and Forward all send an unauthenticated user to a Form on a login page specified within an Authkit middleware application. I'd like to allow a client application to request a service via XHR and then present a custom 'client side' form if a HTTP status code of 401 is returned, which would then post to Authkit for authentication until valid authentication/authorization occured. Specifically, 1) a jquery $.get request might request a resource. 2) if an Authkit cookie check confirmed previous authorization the content would be returned. 3) if not I would like Authkit to simply return the '401 response' (and not redirect to another page, or return a form template) where a client side exception handler would notify the user and present an authentication form. Can Authkit work like this?

  Trying to get my Universal app released and I rely on AdMob ads for revenue in this particular app. I'm having an issue getting AdMob support working, though I keep finding references to people actually running AdMob on their iPad Simulators. Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'AdMobInvalidLibaryVersionException', reason: 'This version of AdMob SDK is incompatible with the iPhone 3.2 SDK or above. Make sure your Active SDK is set to 3.1.X . If you need to build with 3.2, use the 3.2 preview library.' I have not been able to find this "3.2 preview library" anywhere. Any ideas?

  Hi, i'm trying to 'load' the following project into visual studio 2010 but im getting errors about dynamic link libraries not being found. I have manually referenced them but it doesnt like them. The project is: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/DLL/EasyHook64.aspx 2nd link down (EasyHook_2.5_Beta_Source_Code), and the project im wishing to load is EasyHook_2.5_Beta_Source_Code\Examples\ProcessMonitor The two dlls plus 1 executable i need are found in the first link (EasyHook 2.5 beta binaries) and named EasyHook.dll, EasyHook32.dll and EasyHook32svc.exe I've been trying to do this all night but i wonder whether its because im using VS2010 and .NET 4.0?? I'd be so appreciative if someone could have a go themselves just to see if its my setup or they get errors to. The error i get is: Unable to load DLL 'EasyHook32.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)

• ASP.NET MVC as a service host for SOA like architecture

  I'm creating a distributed application that includes a lot of services and I'm looking for the technology that allows me to create and manage a lot of services easily. I know managing and deploying windows services is not fun. I'm thinking of using ASP.NET MVC as service host of my services where each controller action becomes essentially a service and I can communicate with a service via simple HTTP request and responses and not have to deal with complexity if i use something like WCF. Services need to be isolated and asp.net requests are isolated as far as i know, i.e. if a request throws an exception it will not effect other running requests. But I still have questions about the management of the services. How will it be possible to see which services are running, stopping and resuming services. Also ASP.NET MVC are passive, i.e. they only do something upon a request but what if i want to service that initiates work by itself?

• unable to open SSRS reports from domain IP

  Hi, I have developed the SSRS reports. It is running fine locally. but after deployed on the domain server it showing exception XML Parsing Error: no element found Location: http://{MyDomainIP}:{port}/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx Line Number 1, Column 1: I have deployed these reports under the windows authentication . since I tried to give anonymous access so that I can access it, But in IIS I could not found the virtual directory regarding these reports. so where are they deployed ? I could not understand how it is not permitting to the Admin account to show the reports. Please guide me I am using IIS 6.0 , SQL server2008 R2. I am totally new for the this kind of stuff. Edited: how can we give the anonymous access to the SSRS reports? It should not ask for username and password.I know we can do this by IIS , but some how I can not found my SSRS virtual directory. how can i do that ?
