• Nice shadow effect in text (UISegmentedControl)

  Hi, I would like to bring some color to the texts of my UISegmentedControl. So, I've searched a bit about this topic, but it seems to be not possible out-of-the-box. But I found this nice blog post (link text), how to build an image out of a custom text and then assign it to the segemented control. Works fine, but the text in these created images do not have this nice little shadow effect as the original ones. So, does anyone know, how to create such a shadow effect? I guess, Apple does the same (building an image for the text) with the standard segmenented control. Thanks for your help. Regards Matthias

• AJAX call in for loop won't return values to correct array positions

  I need to get a range of pages using AJAX and put them into an array, where their given place in the array is equal to the i of a for loop (it's a caching-like function for blog pages, and the range of the for loop is entirely variable). I'm doing something akin to the following: var bongo = new Array(); for (i = 0; i < 10; i++) { jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: http://localhost, data: queryString, success: function(request) { bongo[i] = request } }) } The problem is, that unless I add async: false to the .ajax options (which would make it... SJAX?), which causes the requests to basically pause the browser, going against what I'm trying to do, the i in the success callback will always end up being 11, whereas I of course want it to pour the returned data into each slot of the array from 0 to 10. I've tried replacing the line with this: bongo[i] = jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: http://localhost, data: queryString }).responseText But that made no difference.

  Question Where can I find a list of changes introduced to Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RTM that were added since Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate RC? In fact, I'm only interested in changes related to MS Test Manager 2010 and Coded UI Tests. Where I have looked so far I have searched the Internet, looked for a readme.txt in the installation folder, looked into the Visual Studio help (F1) and browsed the "What's new in Visual Studio 2010" section on MSDN. No luck. Found Scott Guthrie's blog post Visual Studio 2010 and .NET 4 Released, but that's not exactly what I am looking for. It's not a changelog since VS2010RC. I suppose there is no such file because they made too many changes to document and hand out to end users. But if there was, I'd be glad if someone could point me to it. Thanks.

  i am currently developing a rails3 app with mongomapper and file storage in gridfs. after some trying around, i found grip and currently also use it in the app for storing the data. so far, so good - now i am trying to get my head around serving the files to the user -- what would be the best/fastest way to achieve that? from: http://railstips.org/blog/archives/2009/12/23/getting-a-grip-on-gridfs/ there seem to be 2 ways: send_data from ruby/rails - is this a recommended way? fast enough? I get this weird deprecation warning: DEPRECATION WARNING: You are using the old router DSL which will be removed in Rails 3.1. • Google Charts of SSL

  Hi, I need to get the free Google charts working over SSL without any security errors. I am using c# and asp.net. As Google charts does not support SSL by default, I am looking for a robust method of using there charts but ensuring my user doesn't get any security warnings over their browser. One thought was to use a handler to call the charts api and then generate the output my site needs. Similar to Pants are optional blog post. I haven't been able to get this example working at this stage. Any suggestions, or samples are welcome. Thanks

Did we really always need to use plugin, even thing like authorization? Authenticate? Is it really waste time Or hard to write from start? • Shortest Ruby Quine

  Just finished reading this blog post: http://www.skorks.com/2010/03/an-interview-question-that-prints-out-its-own-source-code-in-ruby/ In it, the author argues the case for using a quine as an interview question. I'm not sure I agree but thats not what this question is about. He goes on to construct a quine in Ruby and refactor it to make it shorter. He then challenges the reader to try to make it even shorter. I played around with it for a while and came up with the following: s="s=;puts s[0,2]+34.chr+s+34.chr+s[2,36]";puts s[0,2]+34.chr+s+34.chr+s[2,36] This is the first time I have ever attempted a quine and I can't figure out how to make it any shorter. What is the shortest Ruby quine you can come up with? Please post an explanation if your implementation requires it.

• Wordpress Not Publishing Posts To Custom Template

  I am building a theme that has a lot of custom templates, like every page. Ridiculous, but for some reason the template I made for the "postings" page is not getting the posts? I have set the post page in reading preferences, and I have set the page to use my template, but it still publishes posts to a default template. Of all the customization I built into this I did not expect the blog part to give me trouble! lol Anyone run into this kind of thing? Thank you.

  Is anyone using ClickOnce with VS2010? I’m getting the following on publish, when the solution builds fine ... Building WindowsFormsApplication1... Error: Cannot publish because a project failed to build. Have tried everything, new clean project (both windforms and WPF), new temporary key, disabled pre-requisites and played with every publish setting.   Hi All, I am developing my first rails site (yup, i am a rails idiot). I'm writing a blog, and i got to the comments part. I installed acts-as-commentable-with-threading ( GitHub ), i made and ran the migration like the install instructions said. I have added acts_as_commentable to my Posts model and i have a Comments controller When i add @comment = Comment.build_from(params[:id],1, params[:body] ) I get the error. undefined method `build_from' for # Clearly i am doing something terribly wrong, and i don't really get the example. What should i be feeding to build_from? Can somebody explain this plugin step by step? :) Or is there an easier way to get simple threaded comments?

• Base64 Encode String in VBScript

  I have a web service load driver that's a Windows Script File (WSF), that includes some VBScript and JavaScript files. My web service requires that the incoming message is base64 encoded. I currently have a VBScript function that does this, but it's very inefficient (memory intensive, mostly due to VBScripts awful string concatenation) [Aside; Yes, I've seen Jeff's latest blog post. The concatenation is happening in a loop across messages that are 1,000's to 10,000's bytes in size.] I've tried using some custom string concatenation routines; one using an array and one using ADODB.Stream. These help, a little, but I think it would help more if I had some other way of encoding the message rather than via my own VBS function. Is there some other way of encoding my message, preferebly using native Windows methods?

  I was listening to Crockford's talk on Javascript closures and am convinced of the benefit of information hiding, but I do not have a firm understanding of when to use callback functions. It is mostly a true statement that a person could accomplish the same functionality with or without callbacks. As someone who is writing code, what heuristics or cues should I keep in mind when determining when to use callbacks/closures?   Hello - I'm looking for some feedback, blog links, etc that offer some tips and tricks for iPhone GPS development. I've read and understand the API, I have my demo app up and running, etc but I have run into some "quirks" with gps on iphone. For example, it seems that you you will receive a lot less location updates when your iphone enters "power save" mode. I've read that you can combat this by playing music in your application [not sure if this is true]. It also seems that, terms of making a reasonable pedometer, you should filter out any reading with horizontal accuracies less than 20 meters. Does this sound right? Is there any kind of checklist out on the web for iphone gps gotchas? Thanks in advance.

How can I take advantage of OpenSessionInViewInterceptor found in Spring to catch any hibernate session that might open within a bean? • WYSIHAT Installation - not saving photos - Ruby on Rails

  I just successfully installed WysiHat in my rails blog. Seems that the 'add a picture' feature is not working. It successfully allows me to find and select a picture from my desktop but upon clicking save, it does nothing. I also have Paperclip successfully installed. I am wondering if this may have something to do with it. Perhaps Paperclip is getting in the way, or, perhaps I need to connect Paperclip and WysiHat somehow. Any ideas? (let me know if I need to post any code).

Has anyone been able to have this display correctly? In addition, HTML strings of text can be imported into the report from a database or other source. Any help is greatly appreciated.
