• Cannot create a VSPackage for Custom Editor in Visual Studio 2010

  I followed the tutorial here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/Video/bb735001 which is for VS2005. I am on VS2010. After the Wizard finished, it says A project of same name is already opened in the solution. What's the matter? I tried several times changing the name of the vspackage to be sure but always same result. Update: I tried in Visual Studio 2008 and it doesn't occur so it's really a bug in VS2010 ! Did someone try ?

• Why not speed up testing by using function dependency graph?

  It seems logical to me that if you have a dependency graph of your source code (tree showing call stack of all functions in your code base) you should be able to save a tremendous amount of time doing functional and integration tests after each release. Essentially you will be able to tell the testers exactly what functionality to test as the rest of the features remain unchanged from a source code point of view. If for instance you change a spelling mistake in once piece of the code, there is no reason to run through your whole test script again "just in case" you introduced a critical bug. My question, why are dependency trees not used in software engineering and if you use them, how do you maintain them? What tools are available that generate these trees for C# .NET, C++ and C source code?

• Support both Standard mode and Quirks mode? Is that possible and necessary?

  Today I was assigned a bug saying that some page elements don't work on IE8 Quirks mode at all, and I need to fix them. The point is that I believe our pages will always be rendered in Standard mode, because we specify DOCTYPE at the beginning of every page (via master page). I'd think it must be some debugging tools changed that during testing. I managed to convice QA to close it as by design, after a brief explanation to her. Now I start to think the question that whether we should have our page work on both Standard and Quirks mode. Maybe we should try to minimize the problem even if the page is not rendering in a supposed mode? Any standard or best practices on that? Thanks!

• Cross-Browser jQuery text-zoom implementation

  I've got some code to increase/decrease font size. This is giving me a headache because each browser seems to implement the $.css('font-size') differently (see jquery bug). The part that's really killing me, though, is that Firefox is scaling up okay, but when I use the scale down function below, it scales up. Webkit & IE are both working as expected. Any ideas on that?   Hi, This question may not be exactly programming related, but this is about development. I have been trying to find IDEs that support JIRA/Bugzilla so that I could simply integrate the IDE with SourceForge. I do not like to refresh my browser to see issues, bug reports, security problems, etc. I would like to send issues, resolve issues, right from the IDE. I am currently developing with NetBeans, but I see no ways of integrating into any of the services provided by SourceForge. Am I missing something?

• Trouble with creating WPF window extended on the title area (like Office 2007/2010)

  I want to make WPF window extended on the title area (like Office 2007/2010). I implemented DwmWindow (see DwmTest.zip) where I put required stuff. Commonly, it works fine except one disgusting thing: the window appears as white rectangle (see DwmIssue.png) and after a few second this rectangle disappears and the content of the window is shown (see DwmIssueCorrect.png). This bug is essential only for my window.   My Application (Vb.net, Access 2003/2007) is to scan Access Database files for activex controls and to generate report accordingly. Problem: Getting an error like: "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program." The above error occurs while scanning for older version of Access files like prior to office 2000. And the line of code where I get this is as follows: Dim oForm As Access.Form Dim oAccess as Access.Application oForm = oAccess.Forms(objForms.Name) But it opens the file and form as well. Need Help: Whether it is possible to read the file (Access Forms and Reports) or not? Please provide me reference or any solution.

  I am in search of who specifically to contact at Sybase regarding Advantage Database Server's DBI driver, specifically DBD::Advantage. The only reference I can find is to one 'lancesc' in the README, but there are no references to a contact email, CPAN author etc. Inadvertantly I happened upon one StackOverflow user lancesc here. Would anyone happen to know who to contact regarding this? I do wish this was on CPAN. I've found a small bug regarding column quoting in the sql parser that they'd likely prefer to be made aware of. There are also several questions I have for them regarding failing functionality.

• Multiple Post Requests Occuring in Quick Succession

  This is a bit of an open ended question but we have a problem with a web application that on the final step of completing an order, multiple post requests are being made, sometimes up to 10 and all within a couple of seconds to the page. Theirs nothing unusual about the page, the user fills out a form which is then validated using the jQuery form validation plugin. We've seen this behavior exhibited over a couple of different browser types, notably IE6 but also IE8. We've also managed to trigger the bug ourselves but nothing out of the ordinary seems to occur on the browsers end, everything progresses as normal. Apache logs show that multiple post requests where made at the same time and the Rails logs show that multiple posts requests were also received by the application, leading me to think it's a problem with the browser. I've exhausted all avenues that I can think of for debugging so I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone has some ideas of what we could try or look for next.

• How to get flash player to display under content on a PC?

  Long story short, I'm developing a theme template for a blog that enables you to view the posts in blocks. The main part of the post is displayed at first, then the secondary content is displayed over that when you hover over the post block. Everything works fine on a Mac Versions of all major browsers, but start browsing on a PC, and all hell breaks loose when you start trying to display content over Flash Video embeds. The flash element remains visible over the content. It's completely unusable. From a PC, you can view an example of the problem here: http://photorific.tumblr.com I'm almost certain this is a bug in the Flash Plugin for Windows, but I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem before, and if there were any solutions. This problem has presented itself for a while now and any help would be really, really, really appreciated!

• Java library to partially export a database while respecting referential integrity constraints

  My production database is several GB's uncompressed and it's getting to be a pain to download and run locally when trying to reproduce a bug or test a feature with real data. I would like to be able to select the specific records that interest me, then have the library figure out what other records are necessary to produce a dataset that respects the databases integrity constraints and finally print it out as a list of insert statements or dump that I can restore. For example: given Author, Blog and Comment tables when I select comments posted after a certain date I should get inserts for the Blog records the comments have foreign keys to and the Author records those Blogs have foreign keys to.

For example: I have 5 bars in the report. Each bar has 3 different stacks. I want to apply a red related colors to the first bar and its stacks. Second bar should have blue related colors. etc.. • Wrong file encoding after Dist::Zilla

  How can I get mojibake to pass? this might be a bug in the contributors plugin.   I wish to compile my asp.net MVC application using aspnet_compiler.exe from the comandline to speed up cold startup. I'm wondering how it determines if it should do a release or debug build. Is it always release? Does it depend on what the web.config file says when you run aspnet_compiler.exe? What happens to an application that's been compiled w/ aspnet_compiler.exe if someone changed the bug attribute in the web.config file after it has been published? Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

• Trying to open a excel template and rename or save to new location

What I would like to do is Open a excel file that is the XLTemplatePath and the either rename or save the file at the XLSaveReportPath and then use that renamed/saved file to fill the report out. I am using Visual Studio 2008 in VB.NET

• Got blue screen with a warning that I boot loader may not be properly configured, workaround?

  After running sudo apt-get update got this message: Configuring grub-pc You chose not to install GRUB to any devices. If you continue, the boot loader may not be properly configured, and when your computer next starts up it will use whatever was previously in the boot sector. If there is an earlier version of GRUB 2 in the boot sector, it may be unable to load modules or handle the current configuration file. If you are already running a different boot loader and want to carry on doing so, or if this is a special environment where you do not need a boot loader, then you should continue anyway. Otherwise, you should install GRUB somewhere. Continue without installing GRUB? <Yes> <No> Apparently there is a bug in ubuntu 10.04. But this hang the system. Any ideas on how to fix this? All I wanted was to install gcc that is missing.

• Overriding a method in statically created objects

  All, Due to a bug in a library I'm using, I need to override the dispose() method on all objects extending a certain class and make it a NO-OP. I know that if I'm making new instances of the classes directly, this is easy to do: layerManager = new LayerManagerLayer(wwd) { @Override public void dispose() {} }; The problem is that a lot of the object instances I get are not directly constructed by my client code, but instead are created via static library method calls. // Here I want to override the dispose method, but I cannot. Layer l = ShapefileLoader.makeShapefileLayer(this.getClass().getResource("polylines10.shp")); Is there a way I can inject my dispose method into that statically created object without modifying the original sourcecode?

• C++ Urban Myths

  I'm starting to write an article on what I'm calling "C++ Urban Myths" - that is, ideas and conceptions about C++ that are common but have no actual roots in reality. Some that I've come up with so far are: TR1 is part of standard C++ TR1 (technical Report #1) proposed a whole bunch of changes to C++. Unfortunately, it was never accepted. It is faster to use iterators to access a vector than operator[] Or vice versa. All tests I've carried out indicate the two are nearly identical in performance. The C++ Standard contains something called the STL It doesn't - neither "STL" nor "Standard Template Library" appear in the Standard. I'm wondering if the SO C++ community can come up with any better ones? Ideally, they should be expressible in a single sentence, and not involve any code. Edit: I guess I didn't make it clear enough that I was interested in myths believed by C++ developers, not misconceptions held by non-C++users. Oh well...
