  • How to do jquery code AFTER page loading?

    - by Alex
    If you want an event to work on your page, you should call it inside the $(document).ready() function. Everything inside it will load as soon as the DOM is loaded and before the page contents are loaded. I want to do javascript code only after the page contents are loaded how can I do that?

  • Keypress event on inserted span (jQuery)

    - by Coder
    Hi, I've been researching for a long time, and haven't found a possible solution. The problem I have is that I'm trying to attach an event handler to an span element just inserted. So basically the problem is, when a user performs a particular action that I set (clicking a button by example) I call this function: function AppendSpan() { $('#mydiv').append('<span id="someid" contenteditable="true">Some TExt</span>'); //Then I want to handle the keypress event on the inserted span $('#someid').keypress(function(event){//Do something here}); } The problem is that the keypress event is never triggered on the inserted span, I tried with the click event and it works fine, but not the keypress or keydown,keyup events. I also tried with $('span').live("keypress",function(event){//Do something}); but didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated, I need this to work only in FF, so no support for IE required.

Although I am having problems where the carousel core code seems to be adding display block even if I set display none in the CSS. var $slides = $("#slides"); $slides.find('ul.banners').eq(0).carouFredSel({ height: 360, items: { visible: 1 }, scroll: { easing: "easeInOutSine", duration: 1200 }, auto: { delay: 1000 }, prev: { button: $slides.find('.prev'), items: 1 }, next:{ button: $slides.find('.next'), items: 1 }, pagination: { container: $slides.find(".pagination"), keys: true, anchorBuilder: function(nr) { return '<li><a href="#"><span>'+nr+'</span></a></li>'; } } }); $slideButtons = $slides.find(".next,.prev"); $slides.find('ul.banners').hover(function(){ $slideButtons.fadeIn(); },function(){ $slideButtons.fadeOut(); }); HTML <div id="slides"> <ul class="banners"> <li><img /></li> <li><img /></li> </ul> <ul class="pagination"></ul> <div class="next">Next</div> <div class="prev">Previous</div> </div>

  • jQuery jPicker path issues when used in WordPress Theme Options

    - by Scott B
    Anyone with experience using jPicker colorpicker in a WordPress Custom Theme options panel. I believe that the default path for the jPicker resources is /jPicker/ relative to the location the js file appears, however, I'm not seeing the picker.gif icon, so I tried changing the path in the js file like so... images:{clientPath:"../wp-content/themes/myTheme/images/" Everything else appears to be working at first load. My bound input field's background color is the same as the currently selected color. However, the picker.gif icon is missing. Where it should appear, I've just got a 2px wide by 20px tall color element (looks like a div perhaps).

  • Chaining jQuery animations using recursion crashes browser

    - by Rob Sobers
    Here's the basic idea of what I'm trying to do: Set the innerHTML of a DIV to some value X Animate the DIV When the animation finishes, change the value of X and repeat N times If I do this in a loop, what ends up happening is, because the animations occur asynchronously, the loop finishes and the DIV is set to its final value before the animations have had a chance to run for each value of X. As this question notes, the best way to solve this problem is to make a recursive call to the function in the callback handler for the animation. This way the value of the DIV doesn't change until the animation of the previous value is complete. This works perfectly...to a point. If I animate a bunch of these DIVs at the same time, my browser gets overwhelmed and crashes. Too much recursion. Can anyone think of a way to do this without using recursion?

  • Getting value from key pair value into appended property using jQuery

    - by Neil
    How do I get the value from a key pair value into the rel property of an anchor tag? When I split the code to put the value in the correct place it doesn't work, the end of the a tag would appear on screen instead value wouldn't be applied. When I look at the resulting code in console in Firebug the rel and href swapped order so the rel is first. The 'key' should be and is in the correct location but the 'value' needs to be applied to the rel attribute. What am I doing wrong? $(function() { var obj = {"firstThing":"4","secondThing":"6","aThirdThing":"2","anotherThing":"3","followedByAnother":"4"}; $.each(obj, function(key,value) { $('#newmine').append("<li class='tagBlocks'>","<a href='#' rel=''>",value," ",key); }); });

  • jQuery using .html & then window.scrollTo

    - by AnApprentice
    Hello, I'm doing the following: First, inject HTML into the page (a lot) which then increases the window scrollbar: $("#XXXX").html("LOTS OF HTML").show(); Then i want to scroll down to the end of the page: window.scrollTo(0,$(document).height()); Problem is the page never scrolls down. I did some console.logging and the scrollTo is running before the HTML from the inject html() is run. I tried this in the JS which injects the HTML, I then tried doing the scroll inside the HTML inject but that made no difference. Any ideas?

  • jquery binding multiple events, and pass data

    - by mkoryak
    I know we can have this in 1.4: $("a").bind({ click : clickFn, mouseover: mouseFn }); and that is nice and i would like to use it, but it seems like there is no way to pass extra data to events bound this way, it needs to be done the 'old way': $("a").bind("click", {"some":"data"}, clickFn); Question: how can i pass the extra data to my event call backs and bind multiple events in a single bind at the same time?

  • jquery onclick function not firing with rails link_to_remote

    - by RahTha
    In the js file of the page, inside $(document).ready(function() {} i have $(".school a").live("click", function (e){ e.preventDefault(); ....; jsFunc(param1, param2, param3); }); Now the div with the class school has tags generated by rails link_to_remote with :url, :action, :before, :html. On clicking on this link it does all that it should do with regards to link_to_remote, but somehow the onclick event in the document.ready does not attach to it. Why would this be happening? The jsFunc all it does is post to a url async-ly, i figured out that stuffing that post url in the :before of the link_to_remote would work - but is there a more elegant way of just being able to use the attach functionality

  • cycle through spans on jquery click, removing the first-child

    - by jacob
    Basically, this advances to the next hidden span when clicked. The markup: <div id="facts"> <span>click to cycle</span> <span>fact 1</span> <span>fact 2</span> <span>fact 3</span> <span>fact 4</span> </div> The js: $(document).ready(function() { var current = 1; $('#facts span').click(function() { // Hide all of them $('#facts span').hide(); // Unhide the current one: $('#facts span:eq(' + (current % $('#facts span').length) + ')').show(); // Increment the variable console.log(current % 4); current++; }); // Unhide the first one on load $('#facts span:first-child').show(); });? What I'm trying to do now is remove the first span after it's been clicked, because it is not necessary for the user to see the 'click to cycle' instruction again.

  • How should I port this Prototype to JQuery?

    - by blu
    There is currently this Prototype code that does a PUT: new Ajax.Request(someUrl, { method: 'put', parameters: { 'foo': bar }, onSuccess: function(response) { } .bind(this) }); I found this post but the solution uses an extra parameter supported by RoR, however I am targeting an ASP.NET backend. I searched a bit and found that not all browsers support PUT operations so apparently this could fail in certain browsers? This is already in prod, so a direct port would be fine for now I suppose. As an aside, what is the deal with the bind(this) in the onSuccess function?

  • use jQuery to get 'true size' of image without removing the class

    - by jon3laze
    I am using Jcrop on an image that is resized with css for uniformity. JS <script type="text/javascript"> $(window).load(function() { //invoke Jcrop API and set options var api = $.Jcrop('#image', { onSelect: storeCoords, trueSize: [w, h] }); api.disable(); //disable until ready to use //enable the Jcrop on crop button click $('#crop').click(function() { api.enable(); }); }); function storeCoords(c) { $('#X').val(c.x); $('#Y').val(c.y); $('#W').val(c.w); $('#H').val(c.h); }; </script> HTML <body> <img src="/path/to/image.jpg" id="image" class="img_class" alt="" /> <br /> <span id="crop" class="button">Crop Photo</span> <span id="#X" class="hidden"></span> <span id="#Y" class="hidden"></span> <span id="#W" class="hidden"></span> <span id="#H" class="hidden"></span> </body> CSS body { font-size: 13px; width: 500px; height: 500px; } .image { width: 200px; height: 300px; } .hidden { display: none; } I need to set the h and w variables to the size of the actual image. I tried using the .clone() manipulator to make a copy of the image and then remove the class from the clone to get the sizing but it sets the variables to zeros. var pic = $('#image').clone(); pic.removeClass('image'); var h = pic.height(); var w = pic.width(); It works if I append the image to an element in the page, but these are larger images and I would prefer not to be loading them as hidden images if there is a better way to do this. Also removing the class, setting the variables, and then re-adding the class was producing sporadic results. I was hoping for something along the lines of: $('#image').removeClass('image', function() { h = $(this).height(); w = $(this).width(); }).addClass('image'); But the removeClass function doesn't work like that :P

  • Jquery .wrap and first-child

    - by Johann
    Hi, I'm in a situation in which I need to use .wrap and :first-child. This is what I am doing: <script>$("a").wrap("<div class='category-wrapper'></div>");</script> <script>$("div.category-wrapper:first-child").addClass("first");</script> This should render a div.category-wrapper outside a link and then add a "first" class to every first div.category-wrapper. The output is: <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test</a></div> Which is good! However, I am not able to get the "first-child" to work (it doesn't adds the "first" class). If I use it somewhere else it works so I am sure it's something related to the dynamic rendering of the previous element. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Sample output would be: <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #1</a></div> <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #2</a></div> <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #3</a></div> <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #4</a></div> Desired output: <div class="category-wrapper first"><a href="#">Test #1</a></div> <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #2</a></div> <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #3</a></div> <div class="category-wrapper"><a href="#">Test #4</a></div> However, I am not able to make it work.

  • jquery, manipulate content inserted by ajax, without using the callback

    - by Cody
    I am using ajax to insert a series of informational blocks via a loop. The blocks each have a title, and long description in them that is hidden by default. They function like an accordion, only showing one description at a time amongst all of the blocks. The problem is opening the description on the first block. I would REALLY like to do it with javascript right after the loop that is creating them is done. Is it possible to manipulate elements created ofter an ajax call without using the callback? <!-- example code--> <style> .placeholder, .long_description{ display:none;} </style> </head><body> <script> /* yes, this script is in the body, dont know if it matters */ $(document).ready(function() { $(".placeholder").each(function(){ // Use the divs to get the blocks var blockname = $(this).html(); // the contents if the div is the ID for the ajax POST $.post("/service_app/dyn_block",'form='+blockname, function(data){ var divname = '#div_' + blockname; $(divname).after(data); $(this).setupAccrdFnctly(); //not the actual code }); }); /* THIS LINE IS THE PROBLEM LINE, is it possible to reference the code ajax inserted */ /* Display the long description in the first dyn_block */ $(".dyn_block").first().find(".long_description").addClass('active').slideDown('fast'); }); </script> <!-- These lines are generated by PHP --> <!-- It is POSSIBLE to display the dyn_blocks --> <!-- here but I would really rather not --> <div id="div_servicetype" class="placeholder">servicetype</div> <div id="div_custtype" class="placeholder">custtype</div> <div id="div_custinfo" class="placeholder">custinfo</div> <div id="div_businfo" class="placeholder">businfo</div> </body>

  • jquery clickling fast

    - by Johansrk
    Hi. I have this function, that adds 31px to my style bottom on ul. It works fine, but if I click fast, it no longer adds 31px, but some weird number like 17.423px. I guess it's because the animation isn't done, and thereby by clicking fast it adds 31px to the current px amount. My thought is that I need to insert a stop(). But where? Thanks $(function () { $('.topTenTwocolumns .topTenTwocolumnsWrap .down').click(function () { if ($("ul").css("bottom") !== '2728px') { $(this).parents('.topTenTwocolumnsWrap').children('ul').stop().animate({ bottom: '+=31' }, 200); } }); });
