  Hi i am trying to build screen animation like flickering, interlace, color separation similar to old style malfunctioning Amiga screens. The intended effects are shown in this video. I am using libgdx and I already discovered the universal tween engine, which helps a lot to build transitional animations, but how should I approach those blending effects, any suggestions?   All the questions I've seen regarding iOS universal apps (with or without cocos2d) deal with the "how to add graphics to a universal app". My question is, how does the code need to be written to ensure that the sprites appear appropriately on the screen (given that an iPhone 5's resolution is not proportional to an iPad's resolution)? Is it just a bunch of "if" statements and duplicate code or do iOS/cocos2d provide common function calls that will place the sprites at an appropriate position?

  I just bought a new SSD (Vertex4 from OCZ, 256G) and installed Windows 8 with it on my laptop. I am not using an external hard drive to keep extra data (paging, temp files etc) because I am using a laptop and do not want to carry it around with me. My question is, if I disable Windows indexer (Windows Search service), does Windows still search files under the search (Windows 7 Start menu search/Metro UI Windows 8 search)? Since the indexer was meant to search for files by indexing them, does this mean that Windows will not search new files? Thanks in advance.

• Career advice on whether to stick with coding or move on to tech. lead\management [closed]

  I'm at a point in my career where I need to decide what to do next. I've mainly done C# desktop development (with a little python and Silverlight) for 5 or 6 years and I'm trying to decide whether to start learning JavaScript\HTML or to moving into a role where I do less coding and more tech. lead\management role. With all the talk around HTML5\JavaScript, the rise of mobile and the changes with Windows 8 (metro at least) I wonder if I should stick with coding to get some experience in these areas before moving on. But at the same time if I decide stick with coding for a ‘couple more years’ I will probably be faced with the same situation with some other new\interesting technology that I feel I should learn before moving on. I feel if I stick just with coding I'm limiting my career options but if I move to tech. lead\management I will loose my coding skills. Is going one direction or the other going to limiting my career options in the future? I know that there is no real answer to this question so I’m really just looking for some thoughts from others and perhaps experiences from other people that faced similar situations. Thanks

• Missing 16:10 resolutions with Nvidia drivers (Can't add resolutions)

  I have a laptop with a Nvidia 9650M GT and used the drivers that Seven brought me. It works fine but Metro 2033 tells me that I have to upgrade my drivers to play the game. So I did it. But since I did a clean install of the new Nvidia drivers, I just have 1440*900 or 4:3 resolutions. I usually played with 1280*800 or 1184*740 (for performance issue) With the "old" drivers I was able to create custom resolution (1184*740) in Nvidia control panel but now when I try it tells me that "my monitor cannot support this resolution". When I insist, it works but soon as I shut down my computer I have to recreate it.. Do anyone have a fix?

• What are the app file size limitations for different smartphone OSes & carriers?

  I know the iPhone App Store limits how large an app can be in general and there are also limitations with AT&T over the size it can be to transmit over a data plan vs WiFi. I have no idea what, if any, these limits are for Android apps and what I'm finding online is a mix of different numbers. Does anyone know these numbers definitively? The Android game I'm porting is in the 20-30MB range and we'd like to know if we need to further reduce its size.
