Used to work when i had xp installed but now with windows 7 it isn't even showing up in my device manager....i tried updating the drivers but nothing....any suggestions?
There are times when instead of scrolling vertically in file explorer I accidentally move a folder to within another folder. Great! It happens so quick I don't know which folder was moved and this means I just screwed up an application installation.
Is there a way to undo this operation? Or someway to disable moving of folders by default?
Using Windows 7.
I'd like to make a backup/image of my machine, so that I may install it if i ever need to.
What I mean by image is a snapshot of all of my programs, settings, files, everything, i think this is referred to as a ghost image.
I want to be able to restore so I do not have to reinstall everything again.
Does the backup/restore utility in Windows Server 2008 R2 do this?
Is there a way to change the size of the Windows 7 Taskbar? Internal or with the help of outside programs, both welcome. Something like the MacOS X Doc Zooming effect would be OK/nice, too.
Edit:
I'm essentially looking for a way to shrink it, because my laptop does not have a big screen so every pixel is valueable.
Where are they? I've seen and used a few, but most of them either look awful or behave badly.
Are there any useful add-ons that you would recommend that work and integrate well into Windows Media Center?
Yes, I could go to the green button and sift through hundreds of add-ons. I'm looking for the cream of the crop.
Can someone point me to clear directions for a Dual-Boot system using Windows 7 on #1 SSD and Linux Ubuntu on SSD #2? And then configuring 2 HDD's in RAID 1 for Data (NTFS)? Clean Install all around. Or what other set-up would be preferable to achieve a similar goal?
I'd like to edit PDF files while running on Windows. What is the best package to get this for free (either freeware or opensource, not trial/shareware)?
I am having problem with a user account on a Windows 7 machine (local install, admin user account)
APPPATH and LOCALAPPPATH environment are not set. Another user on the same machine, (also a local account, but without admin rights) has the variables set. This started to happen recently, however, I can not figure out if there was something installed on the machine to cause this. This is creating issues with applications that are trying to expand the variables to store local files.
Thank you for the help.
Took me a bit to realize that since upgrading to 8.1 my touchpad smart gestures (two finger scroll, top down swipe, left in swipe, ect) don't work. I have read up a little online but can't seem to find an answer or fix that 1) sounds trustworthy and 2) is put into language and steps that I understand.
I already have a hard time navigating windows 8 in general, so any help is awesome, but please dumb it down for me if you can.
Thanks -K-
About to rebuild my XP install and figured I'd see if there was a file or interface for collecting the configs for the built in Windows XP wireless manager.
I've looked under the "advance settings" tab and within the properties GUI for each connection and I'm not seeing a way to export the configs.
Clearly if I'm exporting these I'd like to be able to import or override the default config with the backup.
I have a copy of Windows XP Pro that I want to put on my Toshiba Satellite A505 - S6965. I tried to put it on yesterday, but nothing works, not even the Ethernet port. What should I do to make it work correctly? Also, the resolution was acting funny...
In Windows 7, in most applications, when an application is maximized...I can "tear" the window (grab the title bar and drag) from it's maximized size and off the top of the screen and then I can drag it to wherever...but when Excel is maximized I do not have that functionality...Is there some trick to adding this functionality for Excel 2007...I can do it with Word 2007 so it doesn't appear to be Office itself. The machine is a Dell Latitude D820 with the Nvidia Quadro NVS 110M video card...running the latest video drivers...

Hi,

I installed the FTP Service and configure it with the IIS 6.0 Console.
When I deactivate my firewall, all its okay, but when not, I can't get a connection.
Port 21 tcp + udp, port 22 tcp + udp and the whole FTP-Server Application is set as go trouhgt, but don't work. Of course, the FTP ruins on 21.
Any ideas

Hi,
On a Windows Server 2008 Standard-server I have two partitons, named C: and P:.
I would like to move the user profiles directory C:\Users to P:\Users
Is it possible? Is it supported by Microsoft? Could this result in any problems when upgrading etc? Has anyone here done anything similar?
I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server.
Here is what I'm doing from the finder :
menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer
I get an error (error code -36).
But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory.
I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.
I cannot seem to find or get the required drivers for Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 on windows 8 64bit on my Dell N7010 Laptop
I have wifi connectivity but all i get is max G speeds and no N speeds, transfering files on mapped drives is really slow as a result, this wasnt the case before, i dont care about wimax, but even those drivers would be appreciated incase i decide to sell in future...
When I plug a USB thumb drive into my Win7 PC, it no longer auto-launches the window giving me options like "Import Photos" or "browse". The drive is recognized but nothing autolaunches.
Similarly, CD's don't autoplay either.
I verified that Win7 is set to autoplay, per method 1 and 2 of:

FYI, there is a similar question (but for Windows XP) here on SU.
Is there some documentation on the various Windows 7 registry settings?
Preferably from Microsoft or in some kind of Wiki?
E.g. what settings exist for the Taskbar, Start Menu, Explorer, etc.
I've found some 'tweak' sites but they usually only offer information for a few features and even that is mostly hidden in reg files and poorly documented.
