  • which collaborative tools do you use to communicate between team members [closed]

    I work for a small company and would like to set up some sort of a collaborative tool so that team members can share thoughts, upload documents...something like sharepoint maybe, but not that suffisticated. Only good option I've seen so far is joomla CMS. Just want to get an opinion of the community on which tools they have used for these purposes. I know this is not programming related but I thought stackoverflow community would be good to get an opinion on this.

  • How do I get the entity framework to work with archive flags?

    I'm trying to create a set of tables where we don't actually delete them, but rather we set the archive flags instead. When we delete an entity, it shouldn't be deleted, it should be marked as archived instead. What are the programming patterns to support this? I would also prefer not to have to roll out my own stored procs for every table that have these archive flags if there is another solution.

  • Why is the volatile qualifier used through out std::atomic?

    From what I've read from Herb Sutter and others you would think that volatile and concurrent programming were completely orthogonal concepts, at least as far as C/C++ are concerned. However, in GCC c++0x extension all of std::atomic's member functions have the volatile qualifier. The same is true in Anthony Williams's implementation of std::atomic. So what's deal, do my atomic<> variables need be volatile or not?

  • Can one Python project use both 2.x and 3.x code?

    Hi all - I'm going to start on a long (~1-year) programming project in Python. I want to use wxPython for my GUI (supports 2.6), but I also want to use 3.1 for the rest of the project (to start using the 3.x syntax). Is there any way for me to design a project that mixes 2.x and 3.x modules? Or should I just bite the bullet and use either 2.x (preferred, since I really want to learn wxPython) or 3.x throughout?   • reading binary datafile and writing into decimal no file

    exp data is generated by my mc scaler card as a binary file with first 511 bytes as header and then 24 bit data followed by four bit roi data. i am not a expert in programming. i do understand a little. I would like to convert this file into a file (without header) decimal nos with first col as channel no (1 to 8191) then the data (24 bit) then the Roi data (4 bit). I don't really want to spark any flame wars, but: When should you use scripting languages over compiled languages for website development? (and vice versa) Just to clarify, for the sake of this question, I define a "scripting language" to mean an interpreted language like PHP, Python, or Ruby, and a "compiled language" to mean a strongly typed, compiled language like C#, C++, Java, or VB.
