  I have a problem with my wired connection. To be more specific, my laptop doesn't seems to recognize that I have plugged in an ethernet cable. I tried to download new drivers for my ethernet card, but I couldn't find any solutions. Maybe because I am new to Linux, so I'm not familiar with running commands in the terminal. • Wired connection not being recognized

  I'm on Ubuntu Maverick (10.10). I've read a few threads regarding wired connection problems, but haven't found a solution yet. The problem appears after I connect to a wireless network. When I disconnect wireless and plug in an internet cable, the wired connection is not recognized at all. Even the socket appears dead (there are no diodes flashing). The only solution so far seems to be restarting the computer. Network Manager then tries to connect to a Wi-Fi, but the wired connection is listed and working. I've tried sudo restart network-manager, but that doesn't solve anything. After a while, available wireless networks start appearing, but the wired still doesn't. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.   I'm trying to set up a dual monitor with my laptop (Dell XPS L502X) and a monitor that I recently bought (Dell U2312HM). The cable are alright, because I tried this on Windows and all is fine. In Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't work. If I go to System Settings-Displays, button Detect Displays doesn't do anything. I may also say that I use Bumblebee, and my sudo nvidia-settings command only shows a windows with only nvidia-setting Configuration option.

  I have a ubuntu Dekstop and a Windows 7 Desktop. The windows 7 is connected via wireless adapter and the ubuntu dekstop is connected via ethernet. The wireless adapter is capable of 300Mbps link speed. When my ubuntu is connected to the interet, the network becomes very very slow. I have a 15 Mbps cable broadband connection. I have had many devices connected at one with no problem, yet this one connection seems to be wreaking havoc.

  Whenever I try to shutdown my pc by using sudo shutdown -... now (it doesn't matter what I fill in for the ...), it always shutdowns down for about 3-4 seconds, and than just powers up again. I'm sure WOL is disabled, and just to be sure I tested it with ethernet cable unplugged. It's a fresh install of ubuntu server 14.04. It's also a new pc so I do not have any prior experience with it. • Motherboard HDDPWR1 connector

  I need help identifying the name of a connector. I have a Gateway DX4870-UB318 computer, I opened the case and wanted to attach another hard drive, but to my surprise one existing SATA hard drive was connected to the motherboard with this connector: And here is the spot on the Motherboard where the power was supplied. What is the name of this adapter and where can I get another one? Clues: This computer was bought new October 2013 from best buy, box number: DX4870-UB318. The gateway folks won't divulge the type of motherboard it has nor give specs on it. On the wire itself is an identification code: H.35090NJ01-000 Next to the connector on the motherboard it says: HDDPWR1 and the second one says HDDPWR2. This cable has two SATA power connectors and one mystery connector. The power supply has no molex power cables and no SATA power connectors! This is the most bizarre hard drive power system I've seen. I guess the motherboard folks are trying to remove the burden for desktop power supplies to provide adapters (molex, SATA, other) to CD's and hard drives. Can someone put a name on that white flat 6 pin HDD Power Connector? My Solution I can buy a "SATA Power Y Splitter Cable" to provide more spaces to power sata devices.

• eMachine W5243 won't POST; fans run but optical drive will not open.

  Symptoms are what is described in the title. The machine reacts to the power button being hit by spinning up the two fans: CPU and PSU. The hard drive (SATA) spins up as well. No other reaction. This one symptom is particularly weird, though: the optical drive will not open with the IDE cable attached, but if I unplug it from the mobo it will. I can turn the PC on with it attached, won't open; then unplug IDE while it is still on, WILL open; then plug IDE back in with the PC STILL ON, WON'T open. I have disconnected every peripheral unnecessary to POST. These include: mouse/keyboard, PCI modem, the IDE optical drive (power and data), and the SATA HDD (power and data). Video is onboard. The only two things connected are DB15 video and power cable. There were 2 512 MB DDR2 sticks of RAM in it. I have tried running it with just one of them, then switched the other in. Currently seated is a completely different 1 GB stick that I keep around for troubleshooting purposes, and I have tried it in both slots. I have replaced the CMOS battery with a used one I had lying around, and which worked in the computer it came out of. I have tested the PSU with a tester to confirm it was good, then tried connecting another PSU just in case--same symptoms. I have even tried a suggestion I found elsewhere on this site wherein one disconnects power from the PSU and then presses the PC's power button twice, thereby "resetting" the PSU. Currently I am trying yet another suggestion: turn it on and wait an inordinate amount of time for POST. Any help would be appreciated.
