    I find that when I type Chinese characters(encoded with utf-8) into VIM,I cannot see them at all while they do exist there.I can copy and paste them into other text editors and it seems everything is fine.How can I fix this problem?Thanks!

The files without extension (and also .zip file) are transferred with base64 encoding. I want to send email attachment in simple text. I am converting one by one using notepad++ but I was wondering if there is any application that will convert them all (I have many files) in a quick and easy way.   • Printing special / extended characters on web page - Firefox or printer issue?

    My dad brought this to my attention and I'm looking into it, but thought I'd post here and see if anyone has any ideas... He's running Win7, using Firefox and printing to a wireless connected Brother HL-2170W printer. He's got a web page (http://cornandsoybeandigest.com/inputs/fertilizer/applying-nitrogen-after-planting-0512/index.html) that has extended/special characters in it - the funny "a" in Fernandez. The characters show correctly in Firefox on the page. He printed it, and the extended "a" printed as a diamond with a question mark. He says it shows that way in the print preview, too. I pulled up the same page in Ubuntu, Firefox, and it displayed in my print preview and physically printed everything correctly. I just checked on my wife's Win7 PC in Firefox and the print preview looked correct on her system, too. We have a Brother 2040 here. Soooo, my question is, is this possibly a problem in the browser somehow, or the printer driver? I'm leaning towards the printer driver now, but I can't say I've run into this before. Is it a setting somewhere? I just installed this printer for him the other day, using the CD that came with it; I could try updating the driver from Brother's website I guess. Is there anything else I should look at or check? Thanks!

    Certain letters are suddenly showing up as fractions in Mac's Mail program. Specifically, lowercase a = 1/2 lowercase b = 1/4 lowercase c = 3/4 Capitalized, they work fine, the other keys are working fine, and this only happens with this particular program, but I can't figure out what to change or what's wrong. It's Mac OS X 10.4.11 and an update was applied last night but other than that nothing's been changed (that I know of, I'm asking for someone else). Thanks.

  • [Linux] Bind/map Character to alt+[some key]?

    OS: Ubuntu In programming and various terminal programs (Screen, Vim) the [, ], { and } tends to be used a lot. I'm using a Norwegian keyboard where these are placed such that I have to stretch my fingers a bit too long for whats comfortable. To make it easier I though I'd try to make alt+[some key] be one of these characters. Is there a way that I can bind, say alt+æ (Norwegian letter) to '{' system wide? Btw, is such thing called binding, mapping or something else? I'm getting a bit confused by the terms... :)

  • Cannot use Alt code for Unicode character insertion any more

    I've been using the Alt code for the ellipsis, 8230, for some time now, in several applications. A few days ago it stopped working, and & is displayed instead of … when pressing Alt+8+2+3+0 (on numpad). This happened both on my desktop and on my laptop (where I use it with Fn). Both run on 64bit-Win-7 with code page 850, and both might have recently updated Windows and Opera 12. What could be the reason this input method got disabled, and how do I switch it back? Btw, I just found out that Alt+0+1+3+3 does work.

  • Apache Web Server character encoding

    I've recently transferred my webapp from my localhost (LH) to a VPS, and have had hebrew chars-encoding probs since. Whenever I send a request with a heb-char it results in "?????" saved to the DB. My LH config was tomcat6, MySQL, and centOS 6.2, opened to the web. In the VPS env I'm behind an Apache Web Server, and the rest is quite the same (though I haven't done anything to its installation). Please note I already have had this problem before, on my LH when the request was sent from IE/chrome (not FF!). The solution was to apply a filter on the the context and change the char-type to UTF-8. My webapp content char-encode is utf-8, MySql server set to utf8 using charset utf8;, and my centOS set to iw_IL.UTF8 using export LANG=iw_IL.UTF8. When I use locale the bash output seems to be set correctly. Any suggestions?

  • How to fix windows new line character on sftp synchronization in eclipse (pdt)

    Hello, I have a problem with windows new line characters being introduced into text files on eclipse sftp synchronization (via jcraft's sftp plugin). I've set "New text file line delimiter" to Unix and have even sanitized the file with "fromdos" but every time i upload using the sftp plugin, windows new line characters can be seen in the remote file as "^M" characters (when viewed in vi). A point to note is that if i upload using an external sftp client, it's all fine. Eclipse Version: PDT (Helios) SFTP: jcraft sftp plugin Local Environment: Ubuntu 10.04 Remote Environments: FreeBSD 6.4, Debian 4.0 What am i missing? My co-workers would thank you for the solution :) Thanks in advance.

  • 8 Character Device names

    Is there any reason to still use only 8 characters in a device name? My boss still uses this rule for printers, computers, routers, servers... basicly any device connected to our network. This leads to massive confusion among users, especially when it comes to printer. It also leads to confusion from an administration standpoint because every device is named vaguely, and similarly(its only 8 characters!). I understand the history behind this and compatibility with older systems, but none of our legacy systems will ever make use of PS-printers and Wifi networks. Is there any reason to still do this, and what is everyone else doing when it comes to naming network devices at an enterprise level?

  • Replace single character in windows filenames

    I have a Win2k3 server that has a whole bunch of filenames that need renamed. Basically, I just need all - (dashes) replaced with _ (underscores), no matter where they are in the string. Assume that there are no duplicates. I can do this on my mac with a little script but the files are too large and crazy to transfer to my mac, rename, then go back to the server. Would love to do this in a command shell and not have to download a renamer or any add'l software. Thanks!

  • Euro character messed up during FTP transfer

    My customer is using a very outdated ecommerce management system on my hosting service. For that product, no support is being provided anymore by the vendor. Brief explanation: the shop website, that claims to run under LAMP stack, is built by an old Visual Basic Windows application running on MS Access. The user constructs the shop, defines the HTML template, adds products and categories, etc. Then the VB exe builds the PHP pages (one for each template page) and the SQL script to run on MySQL. It also uploads everything via FTP and runs the installation/upgrade script on its own. The problem Browsing the website, many products' descriptions are cut before the euro sign. For example, what was supposed to be "Product price €1000" becomes "Product price" The analysis MySQL contains a cutted description until the € sign, so it's not PHP fault The Access databases contain full description with € sign, so it's not fault of the webmaster writing bad description or eDisplay cutting them The SQL that will run once the site gets uploaded, stored on my local machine before upload, contains the € sign The same script, after being FTPed by eDisplay and opened with nano from SSH, shows the € sign messed up like this: ^À vsftpd log reports (obfuscated for privacy) Sat Dec 15 11:16:57 2012 22 xxx.xxx.128.13 1112727 /srv/www/domains/xxxxxx.it/htdocs/db.sql b _ i r xxxxxxx ftp 0 * c which seems to be a binary transfer (and also a huge security vulnerability because you can download the whole database from unauthenticated HTTP) The eDisplay internal FTP client provides no option for ascii/binary transfer modes [Add] Trying to manually upload the SQL file via SFTP shows messing up euro [Add2] Trying to manually upload using Xftp client with explicit ASCII mode doesn't fix too It looks like the file gets uploaded as binary. Perhaps on the customer's previous host it all worked fine because that was a Windows host. The server It's an Azure virtual machine running openSUSE 12.2 with both vsftpd and openSSH The question Without asking the customer to manually upload files using FileZilla or replacing € with &euro;, because he refuses, what can I do on server side to prevent vsftpd to screw up euro sign?

    I have a file named index.php which using a mysql server gets a simple username. The mysql server is running on centOS and I have two different systems running apache serving as web servers. One is my own windows pc using a "wamp" solution which uses the mysql server refereed before and the other is the centOS server itself. I use this so I can develop in my laptop and run the final on the centOS box. The problem is this: Accessing centOS box I get (on hxxp://centos): out_sider 1lu?s 2oi Using wamp on windows I get (on hxxp://localhost): out_sider 1luís 2oi The mysql database is configured correctly seeing that both use the same and I used svn repository to move files from windows to centOS so the file is the same.   • Asterisk Register username with special character like "@"

    I am using a SIP provider that has provided me with a username like: [email protected] (Note this is only the username part) And has a numerical password. My Register string looks something like this: [email protected]:[email protected] But this is not working, as asterisk is only sending the first part +112223344 before the first @. My provider is adamant about having the full form of it. This is the first time I am facing this issue that is quite unusual for me. Please help.

The setup utility in centos is too basic (doesn't seem to allow me to open up custom ports, just standard ones). Suggestions of a tool or utility to simply iptables management? For entities that have associations – one-to-one, one-to-many, many-to-one or many-to-many –, NHibernate needs to know what to do with their related entities, in three particular moments: when saving, updating or deleting. In particular, there are two possible behaviors: either ignore these related entities or cascade changes to them. NHibernate allows setting the cascade behavior for each association, and the default behavior is not to cascade (ignore). The possible cascade options are: None Ignore, this is the default Save-Update If the entity is being saved or updated, also save any related entities that are either not saved or have been modified and associate these related entities to the root entity. Generally safe Delete If the entity is being deleted, also delete the related entities. This is only useful for parent-child relations Delete-Orphan Identical to Delete, with the addition that if once related entity is removed from the association – orphaned –, also delete it. Also only for parent-child All Combination of Save-Update and Delete, usually that’s what we want (for parent-child relations, of course) All-Delete-Orphan Same as All plus delete any related entities who lose their relationship In summary, Save-Update is generally what you want in most cases. As for the Delete variations, they should only be used if the related entities depend on the root entity (parent-child), so that deleting the root entity and not their related entities would result in a constraint violation on the database.

    Does anyone know how to write a macro for a special character? I know LibreOffice currently doesn't have a way to set a special character to a keyboard shortcut. However, I want to work around this with a macro. My plan is to create a macro for a special character then set a keyboard shortcut to that macro. Problem is I don't know the first thing about writing a macro. Any one have a template or something that works? I also know about the compose key, but I guess I am lazy and want to actually insert special characters with as few keys as possible.

    Hey, Trying to solve this for a very long time now... SELECT MATCH(name) AGAINST('??????') (hebrew) doesn't work, but SELECT MATCH(name) AGAINST('abraxas') SELECT MATCH(name) AGAINST('????????') (english, russian) work perfectly. I know it's something with character-set, but I tried all kind of settings and it didn't work. For now it's latin-1. LIKE works I'm pretty much sure that any weird language like arabic etc won't work...
