• Windows authentication through IE - specify the domain

  This question really relates to allowing to logon to a SharePoint installation from home but I guess it's a general IIS security question. When the login box pops up to collect the windows credentials the user can just type in their user name on Safari/Chrome/FF and they can login correctly. On IE authentication fails as it seems to pass their local machine name by default and the user needs to replace this with domain\user. Not a big problem in some cases but we'd prefer it if the users didn't have to enter the domain name portion. Is this simply a feature of IE that we can't control or is their something we can do with IIS/AD etc that will allow us to provide a default domain if one isn't specified?

• How to lock Firefox tab to domain or URL pattern

  I know Firefox extensions that allow protecting (cannot be closed) and locking (cannot change URL) tabs. What I need is an extension that locks a tab to a certain domain or URL pattern. For example, I want to lock a tab to the domain example.com. As long as I follow links that are within this domain the tab should show normal (unlocked) behavior, but if I follow a link to another domain the link should be opened in new tab -- leaving the locked tab open with a URL within the locked domain. Even better would be the functionality to lock a tab to a URL pattern. If a URL matches the pattern it is opened in the current tab, otherwise it is opened in a new tab. Do you know something (preferably an extension for FF 8.0) that provides this kind of functionality.

• Can't access some websites with any browser

  I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a new Samsung laptop and accessing the internet okay via ethernet cable to my university's ISP. Some sites work fine (e.g. google.com) but I can't access others at all (microsoft.com, topshop.com). I can't connect to those sites in safe mode with networking. And ping and tracert both fail. There's no proxy. Other users can connect successfully to these sites using my cable and socket. I've tried all the following with no success: using various browsers (IE9, FF, Chrome) creating a new user updating drivers clearing the DNS cache using OpenDNS and Google's DNS turning off Avast tweaking the MTU running MS malicious software removal tool running Spybot S&D reviewing the hosts file disabling the IPv6 options repairing / resetting winsock settings disabling advanced javascript options I have run out of ideas... can anyone see anything I've missed??!

• Web-based interface is mangled

  Linksys WRT54 - over the last couple days i've been in and out of network configuration screens of my DSL modem and the router (and the commandline for that matter) as I've installed the DynDNS service. (thankx to subsonic and DynDNS.com i'm now able to stream my workstations MP3 catalog over my wife's Droid - making me her tech hero all over again) Somewhere after getting all the net ducks lined up - ports forwarded and firewalls configured - the web-interface for the router ceased rendering the full page - it's only rendering parts, i can F5/refresh and it re-renders and displays some of the cells (table-based webpage) but omits others that _had rendered before the refresh. Happens for both IE and FF. And continues after a reboot. Probably need to re-cycle the router itself but is this known behavior or should i look deeper for a cause? thx

• Problems with Adobe Flash

  I'm running Windows 7, 64-Bit on a Core-i5 HP Notebook. For approximately the last 3 months, I've had major problems with Adobe Flash. Flash has been uninstalled and installed again multiple times. No changes. Here is what happens in different browsers: (All browsers are in the latest version as of this post) Firefox: Doesn't work at all. This bothers me most, since FF is my favorite browser; I'm using a lot of Plugins. Have tried to de-activate all Plugins, but no change. IE and Chrome: Works, but most pages with Flash are stuck during page load for ~30 seconds. After that, everything is fine. Opera: No problems, everything working as it should. Strange, eh? Any help is highly appreciated!

• firefox sync not working. tried everything I could think of.

  I had to format my computer once again. But this time when trying to get all my firefox data from the sync server, nothing happened :( I've tried updating firefox. reconnecting to the sync server a couple of times. But as the title says, nothing has happened. I fear that somehow all my data has been whiped, but I have no clue why it should have done that. I think my old FF was running v4b7, but I can't say for sure. Please help! I also tried posting on the firefox forums. But I must say they don't work very well. It doesn't seem like my question even have been posted.

  I am running SysInternal's Desktops 1.02 and FireFox 3.6.2. I have noticed that while I can have IE8 open in multiple Virtual Desktops, you can not Firefox. If you try you get the error message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must close the existing FireFox process, or restart your system. I did a little digging around to work around this and came up with creating a second profile via the Firefox profile manager (accessed by starting FF with the "-p" switch). This unfortunately created a new problem which is my add-ons (of which I use many) do not stay synchronized between profiles. Is there a better approach here?

• Format Factory not working for mov files

  I have attempted multiple destination formats with no success. I am using Format Factor 2.30. I drag and drop a .mov file into FF, select all to mpg (or any format) then click Start. It thinks for a couple seconds and then jumps to 100%. When I open the file I get no sound or picture from the video. These mov files were created with a Canon SX10 camera. (It is my brother's camera so I'm not sure of the model.) Any suggestions? TMPGEnc is able to convert the files with the QTReader plug in so the video isn't corrupted or something. Thanks. Jeff

• How can I make Firefox remember my session while still clearing browsing history on close?

  I am aware, thanks to this thread ( https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/381229 ), that Firefox doesn't save sessions when browsing history is cleared at close, as effectively the open tabs are themselves cleared from the history before the session is saved. But I would like Firefox to behave differently. Is there any way to change Firefox's behavior so it will clear my browsing history when it closes, but remember only that a certain list of tabs were open, and then restore those tabs when it opens (not even necessarily with those tabs' histories)? I'm running FF 3.5.6 on Mac OS X 10.5. Thanks.

  Hi, I would like to know if it possible to let a Windows Xp machine authenticate to Squid (Linux) using Kerberos without the need of an Active Directory domain. I only want to create a Kerberos ticket on the client side, which should give the client access to squid (using I.E.). I only found tutorials about configuring A.D./Squid, not an environment with only Linux servers. Thanks Update: The kerberos setup is correctly done, the proxy and client can get tickets. • Troubleshooting intermittantly long 'page loading' problem

  Working off IIS 7 with an asp.net mvc app. Most page accesses are lightening quick. Sometimes the browser reports 'page loading' for an exceptionally long time. We are still in the development/testing mode so it's not a network/bandwidth issue. Happens in both IE and FF. No explicit error conditions in the server logs. If i could reproduce it i could run firebug/fiddler to give more info. As it is, it's a little too infrequent to simply leave both those running hoping for the condition to fire - unless/until that's the only option to get better info. I have a hunch this is client-side jquery/ajax related but only a hunch - don't have enough background in either jQuery or MVC to really know what can go wrong. Any initial troubleshooting suggestions welcome. thx

  First let me say I've done plenty of troubleshooting and will try to explain as clearly and as much as I can. Please bear with me. I have a client's computer who uses dial-up and Windows XP. The problem is when I connect to the dial up ISP. IE or Chrome will not browse the internet. It says page cannot be displayed. but if I use firefox on the dialup connection it works. Sounds simple enough there has got to be something wrong with the proxy settings or something...well, that's what I thought here is the weird part. When connected to the LAN in my office IE, Chrome, and FF all work. I upgraded to ie8 and the issue still happens. How would you go about troubleshooting this issue? What should I do next?

When I try to connect to a network, initially with ifconfig eth2 I get (correctly): eth2 inet addr:192.168.1.56 .... inet6 addr: fe80:221:ff:fe96:4598/64 but after a few seconds the 192.168.1.56 disappears and after some other seconds disappears the inet6 address too. When I press in the nm-applet it requires me the password but in the meantime it try to connect. At uni, the connection is a DHCP one. It works for the first few seconds but after it doesn't. • How can I force Firefox to select the tab to the right on tab close?

  I'm using TMP 0.3.8.2 and a host of other extensions on FF 3.6.3 on OSX 10.6. I've tried disabling all other extensions that might interfere with tab settings but it's hard to keep track of everything because I have literally 60 (about 30 are disabled though) that are on and off in various configurations. I'm wondering if there's a way to FORCE Firefox to select the tab to the right on closing a tab, in such a way that it overrides any other setting anywhere else. I realize the prospects for this are dim. Thanks.

• Cannot type backquote or backtick in xterm

  Ubuntu 10.10, XTerm(261), Keyboard layout = Canadian Somehow, the backquote (backtick = `) character can't be input does not get entered in XTerm. I type it and nothing happens. The cursor does not move forward. I know it works because I can input it in Terminal (gnome-terminal). The only strange thing is that I have to type the key twice for it to appear. Just to test it, I tried typing it in other applications, and the same thing happens. Have to type it twice in FF, gedit, etc. One more strange thing, I could not input it into this textbox in which I am typing this message. But I can input it in the URL bar, search bar, etc. Someone please help me solve this mystery. I like to use XTerm and I need the backquotes.

• Putting a Windows DC, Exchange in a DMZ

  I have one guy at my company telling me that I should put FF:TMG in between my main Internet-facing firewall (Cisco 5510) and put my Exchange server and DC on the internal network. I have another guy telling me that I should put the Exchange server and DC in a DMZ I don't particularly like the idea of having my mailboxes and DC's usernames/passwords in a DMZ and I think that Windows authentication would require me opening up so many ports between my DMZ and my internal network that it would be a moot point to have it out there anyways. What are some thoughts? How do you have it set up?

  I have some servers in this configuration: And I am not able, from VMGuest1, to ping either VMGuest3 or VMGuest4. I can, however, ping Host1 and Host2, which are attached to pSwitch1. The behavior is the same with VMGuest3 or 4 trying to ping VMGuest 1 or 2. I don't have promiscuity enabled for any of these switches, nor do I have a bridge set up inside ESXi for the virtual switches. I know that one of these options is usually necessary when trying to get connectivity between two virtual switches. These switches are connected, however, through their respective physical switches which are bridged together.   Hi On Ubuntu 10.10 I started a 2nd instance of Firefox using the command: $ firefox -ProfileManager -no-remote & Created a new profile and everything works smoothly except for the fact that this instance of FF does not obey by GTK2 customizations that I have placed in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 Moreover, only SOME of the customizations are not obeyed. For example, the vertical scrollbars are supposed to be on the left, but they are on the right. The scrollbar arrows are together (Mac-like) as specified, so is the scrollbar width. The first instance obeys all customizations with scrollbars on the left. Any ideas?

I'm running YSlow with beacon reporting as a nightly cron job under OSX: /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -no-remote -P YSlow http://www.example.com/ & PID=$! sleep 300 kill $PID This dumps FF into the background and grabs the PID, waits 300 seconds (for the page to load) then kills it. If there is an update pending, the browser "hangs" waiting for a confirmation. If I do click on the "install updates" link, everything works and then Firefox launches a new process - the $! returned by the shell is no longer valid. • International Dvorak keyboard doesn't trigger hot-keys

  I'm using the Engilsh-Dvorak keyboard-layout; My second keyboard language is Hebrew, which has nothing to do with Dvorak but the hot keys (e.g if I'm writing a document in Hebrew and want to make some bold text using Ctrl+b). The default Hebrew keyboard that comes with Windows (7 and below) has a shift mode which matches each Hebrew character with its matching English QWERTY character ). Obviously I'd want to use the Dvorak corresponding key rather than the QWERTY one, so I created a Hebrew-Dvorak keyboard with a software called Keyboard Layout Manager (KLM) which creates new keyboard layouts DLLs. It works just fine for the shift key, however, Ctrl-key triggered hot-keys (e.g Ctrl+l in FF) are being matched to the corresponding QWERTY key. I've examined the properly working English-Dvorak layout using KLM and in it's "Ctrl+ pressed" view, there isn't any character that's matched to any key but still I tried to encode the Hebrew Ctrl+ pressed keys to work with their matching Dvorak keys, yet it had no effect.
