  I am a Fedora12(GNOME) user. I recently started development in Linux. Most of the Linux system applications/utilities are written in c/c++. The problem i am facing is that how to integrate a downloaded source code with some IDE(e.g, Anjuta etc). In simple words i want to know that, what is the best way to start development on some existing source code using an IDE. Lets take the example of GRUB2(v1.97.1). I downloaded the source code and now i want to study/customize/enhance/add new things to this code, so i want all the source files should be visible in a structural/hierarchical way for the ease of development?

• Fedora12 Slow USB 2.0 Write Speed, ehci_hcd module is missing.

  I am using Fedora 12, the problem i am facing is USB 2.0 write speed. I have a dual boot system with Window XP and Fedora 12. USB 2.0 write speed in Windows XP is much faster then what i am getting in Fedora 12. After some googling i came to know that ehci_hcd module is missing/not present in my system. ehci_hcd module is neither loaded nor it is present in the available list of modules. Can someone guide me how to fix this issue? Is ehci_hcd have something to do with USB 2.0 write speed or? Should i have to recompile the kernel and add/enable he ehci_hcd module?

• phpredis + pconnect

  I am using phpredis on my php based website. The webserver I am using is a the simplest apache apt-get installation, no configuration involved, as this is only a development environment. The issue I am facing is that basically, while using phpredis, there is no difference between "connect" and "pconnect" commands: they both create a new connection everytime, as I can see from the "info" command on redis-cli. Now, I am pretty sure it is because of the apache configuration and the fact that it probably (most likely) is a multi-threaded env, therefore can't enstablish a single connection. My question is basically for when I will turn into production: what would the best choice of a webserver be to avoid this problem? I remember using lighttpd with thousands of users and still get only a very few (like 2 or 3) connections on mongoDB. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

• Testing UDP port connectivity

  I am trying to test whether I can get to a particular port on a remote server (both of which I have access to) through UDP. Both servers are internet facing. I am using netcat to have a certain port listening. I then use nmap to check for that port to see if it is open, but it doesn't appear to be. Iptables is turned off. Any suggestions why this could be? I am eventually going to setup a VPN tunnel, but because I'm very new to tunnels, I want to make sure I have connectivity on port UDP 1194 before advancing.

• Password Expired Server 2008 R2

  Hello everybody, We're facing some trouble with our Server 2008 R2 installation. The passwords expired and we're prompted to change the password. After changing it, we get following error message: Configuration Information could no be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. But we aren't even using a domain controller. So we tried running the server in Safe Mode where we get following message after changing the password: An attempt was made to logon, but the network logon service was not started. Are there any other things I could try? All help is more than appreciated!

  I am working on the flex application. Back end is spring/Hibernate. The application is working fine in my local XP system. When i am trying to deploy in the server i'm facing the issue. The issue is how to map the java in apache when i am by passing the apache & works in tomcat my application is working good. But not in the apache.. This can be fixed by mapping the java in apache.   On a public-facing web server, I'd like to limit the total bytes downloaded per IP address per day. For example, after a visitor downloaded 100MB, any additional requests would be dropped or rejected for the next 24 hours. Is it possible to accomplish this using iptables alone? The connbytes, connlimit, hashlimit, quota, and recent options all look promising, but the man page plays its cards close to the vest (e.g., "quota - Implements network quotas by decrementing a byte counter with each packet. --quota bytes The quota in bytes."). Would like to avoid using a proxy (like Squid) if possible.

• Hearing repeated sound in Linux mint Chrome Browser

  I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some repetition in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine . What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ? And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this . • exported variable not persisted after script execution

  I'm facing a wierd issue. I've a vm with solaris 11, and trying to write some bash scripts. if, on the shell, I type : export TEST=aaa and subsequently run: set I correctly see a new environment variable named TEST whose value is aaa. If, however I do basically the same thing in a script. when the script terminates, I do not see the variable set. To make a concrete example, if in a file test.sh I have: #!/usr/bin/bash echo 1: $TEST #variable not defined yet, expect to print only 1: echo 2: $USER TEST=sss echo 3: $TEST export TEST echo 4: $TEST it prints: 1: 2: daniele 3: sss 4: sss and after its execution, TEST is not set in the shell. Am I missing something? I tried both to do export TEST=sss and the separate variable set/export with no difference.

• Explorer.exe does not starts itself at the startup

  The problem I am facing is whenever I start my PC after use login window where it should show the start screen my PC just doesn’t show anything except for a mouse cursor. I can press CTRL ALT DELETE and go into task manager go into File Run New Task and then run explorer.exe sometimes this works and start screen becmoes accesible but sometimes I have to repeat it multiple times to make it work or sometimes I just have to restart my PC. More over while on the black screen and being able to access task manager If I right click processes there and open containing folder that also work I can access all my program/files from there but all that is missing is my desktop and start screen Can anybody help me with this? Plus can anybody tell like for explorer there is explorer.exe is there a .exe file which would start the start screen ?

  I am using 10EC2 Instances behind 1 ELB. And ELB configured 80 to 8080 and 443 to 8080 port. And all 10EC2 instances having installed with Apache Tomcat, total request on ELB around 8000 to 10000 in 1 minute. I am facing problem for CLOSE_WAIT connection on 10 EC2 Instance, having Apache Tomcat. EC2 Instance Type : m1.xlarge When we restart the Apache Tomcat, all CLOSE_WAIT connections are lost, but its not proper way to work on Production Instances. Please help me out.

• 2 sited hosted in NGINX with separate SSL certs. IE8 posting invalid when starting at one site going to the other

  If users with IE8 go directly to www.xyz.com, SSL cert is fine. Users going directly to www.zyx.com have no issues with cert. If users start at one site and go to the other, they get invalid cert with xyz being used on zyx which should not be happening. Reading the forums NGINX has SNI enabled and I have the correct version of OpenSSL to be able to handle multiple certs. IE8 seems to be the issue but these are customer facing sites. Is there a fix to make NGINX work for the customers experiencing the issue.

• Do two portforward rules translate to "and"?

  I just set up an Exchange server to replace my DeskNow mail server. I want to start testing my internet mail exchange of my Exchange server. I can only set the MX records on my DNS up to my one external IP address so I was thinking that I could set up a firewall rule on my internet-facing firewall that port forwarded the smtp packets to two different servers. My question is: If I do that, will that mean that the smtp packets will be forwarded to just the first internal IP on the list? Or does it mean that the packet will be cloned and sent to both IPs?

• Putting a Windows DC, Exchange in a DMZ

  I have one guy at my company telling me that I should put FF:TMG in between my main Internet-facing firewall (Cisco 5510) and put my Exchange server and DC on the internal network. I have another guy telling me that I should put the Exchange server and DC in a DMZ I don't particularly like the idea of having my mailboxes and DC's usernames/passwords in a DMZ and I think that Windows authentication would require me opening up so many ports between my DMZ and my internal network that it would be a moot point to have it out there anyways. What are some thoughts? How do you have it set up?

  I need to be able to PUT files and GET them later using nothing but HTTP, so I went searching for something that might match the terms "REST file server" or "HTTP file server" or "REST drop-box", etc. Unfortunately, these terms bring up the wrong kind of results on Google. What I want is the equivalent of an SMB fileshare over HTTP. Some ideal features: Can PUT a file of any type at http://servername/service/any/path/I/want/document.pdf Anyone with access can GET that file at the URL I PUT it at Supports AV scanning on any new file that has been PUT Supports DELETE of existing resources (files) Our shop runs Windows, but I'd be interested to know about Unix software that can do this kind of thing, too. It's to be used in an IT department for private users only. It won't be on a public-facing IP address. Does anything like this exist?

• Windows 8 sleep, blank screen on resume

  I use a SONY VAIO laptop VPCS116FA that came pre-installed with Windows 7. I have upgraded to Windows 8. The experience has been good so far but I am facing a frustrating problem. Whenever, I put my computer to sleep, it won't wake up and I have to restart it. Note that this does not affect hibernation which works perfectly fine. However, it is not a perfect alternative to sleep option. • split large text file without missing data record

  I have a 140 MB text file, which contains detail information of books in library. For each book details there is a standard format data details in text file. I need to parse it and insert the data in Database. Here, parsing text file is not an issue. I am facing problem in parsing this large file. So i decided to split the file in small file around 2 MB each file. But i can't manually split this large file in so many pieces. I got HJsplit tool, which split the file but this also doesn't helped as this split the file but 1 book details half part is in one file and rest part is in second file. so if i split this way then information will be missed. How to split the large so that i cant miss the information ? Is there any tool which help me in this condition.

• Is SSL to the proxy good enough?

  We are currently trying to decide on how best to do SSL traffic in our environment. We have an externally facing Apache proxy server that is responsible for directing all traffic into our environment. It is also doing the SSL work for the majority of our servers. There are one or two IIS servers in particular that are doing their own SSL, but they are also behind the proxy. I'm wondering, is SSL to the proxy good enough? It would mean that traffic within our network is identifiable, but is that such a big deal?

• Can't set up IIS Web Server on Server 2008 x64 correctly (what have I missed?)

  Using a VM I installed Windows 2008 Server x64 and as the image below shows, added the IIS Role full image and assigned all role features of IIS full image But if I have an ASP.NET (aspx) page that does (C#) Session["test-session"] = "A"; and read in other page I always get nothing! NOTE: I do have an entire ASP.NET web application, the example above is to be succinct and explicit on what is the problem I'm facing. • How To: Transfer Categories in Outlook 2007 from One Installation to Another Using Google Sync

  I use Outlook 2007 for email. I also happen to use the categories for organizing my mail. This function is cool, because you can use keyboard shortcuts that make categorizing mail quick and easy. The problem I am having is that, since I use Google Apps Sync at home and at work, I can't seem to figure out how to transfer the existing category assignments that I spent months creating at work. As my email comes and goes, I assign this and that, with thousands of messages all belonging to specific categories. When I finally installed and started using Google Apps Sync at home, the synchronization process works great, but all my messages are blank, i.e., don't have the color categories I assigned at work. What's worse, I actually changed computers at work, and now am facing the same problem on the new workstation. Using: Windows XP Pro, Outlook 2007, Google Apps. Anyone run into this and find a solution?

Q : How can I download the latest package for OpenSP ? Q : Would It be just a matter of click and install the package?   i have an HP dm3t notebook which normally comes with windows 7. after some time i figured out how to install Windows XP on it. but now i am facing a problem that the brightess controls dont work so i am unable to change the brightess. the strange thing is that all the other buttons (sound volume, mute, sleep , etc... ) works but not the 2 brightess controls. i already downloaded the "HP Quick Launch Buttons" so i am asking about suggesitions how can i enable these two buttons in windows XP or even if i can change the brightess using some kind of software. thanks

• ATI Radeon Drivers works with which linux distribution and version?

  I have ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics card. Almost every new linux distribution seems to have an issue with it, when i install the drivers. Working without utilizing the graphics card leaves me so unproductive. So i made a plan to use older versions of linux, any distribution suitable as a desktop distribution. UPDATE: The kind of problems that i am facing are, 1) After installing drivers the system boots and hangs, 2) There are unusual lines over the screen 3) After upgrade system doesn't start properly(hangs the usual old way) The kind of answers i am looking for is, distribution X(the newer the version the better) doesn't have the above problem after installing drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics card. UPDATE: The new drivers released by AMD seems to fix all the issues, although they are still beta Thanks
