  I've run into the same problem as found in this question. However, I have a follow-up question. I seem to be in the same situation as the original asker: I have a plist with a hierarchy of dictionaries that define a configuration screen. These are not mutable and will stay the same throughout the application. Since the original discussion seems to focus on problems arising from mutating the dictionary, I must ask for comfirmation: is the order of a dictionary guaranteed the same as they are in the plist, i.e. as it is read (with initWithContentsOfFile)? Can I use allKeys on it in this case to get a correct-order array of keys if the dictionary never changes?

• In terminal, merging multiple folders into one.

  I have a backup directory created by WDBackup (western digital external HD backup util) that contains a directory for each day that it backed up and the incremental contents of just what was backed up. So the hierarchy looks like this: 20100101 My Documents Letter1.doc My Music Best Songs Every First Songs.mp3 My song.mp3 # modified 20100101 20100102 My Documents Important Docs Taxes.doc My Music My Song.mp3 # modified 20100102 ...etc... Only what has changed is backed up and the first backup that was ever made contains all the files selected for backup. What I'm trying to do now is incrementally copy, while keeping the folder structure, from oldest to newest, each of these dated folders into a 'merged' folder so that it overrides the older content and keeps the new stuff. As an example, if just using these two example folders, the final merged folder would look like this: Merged My Documents Important Docs Taxes.doc Letter1.doc My Music Best Songs Every First Songs.mp3 My Song.mp3 # modified 20100102 Hope that makes sense.   Hi, i'm new to iphone development. I spend several days by looking for how write muliview app for an Iphone OS. I found how to switch the diferent views without navigation hierarchy (in this article). It's great, but i want more complicated function. For example, i have three diferent views (view 1 - 3) and i can switch between them with technique from link 1. It works fine. My question is: How can i put UITabBarController on view 2, that shows own subviews (tabView 1 - 3) and how put UINavigationController on view 3, that shows own subviews (navView 1 - 2)? The reslut should look like that, one main view (view 1) with two buttons (for example), which switch me to "window" with UiTabBarController or UINavigationController. I found only tutorials, where UITabBarController was a first controller class, that shows directly from AppDelegate (something like default Xcode predefined scenarios). Thanks for your helpfull answer, or i will be crazy soon:).

  I have been using UIViewControllers and initWithNibName with much success, basically using them as a convenient way to design the view with Interface Builder. Unfortunately I have built a hierarchy of views before noticing this line in the UIViewController documentation: Note: You should not use view controllers to manage views that fill only a part of their window My question is this: Having a very simple NIB that only has a UIView in addition to the default First Responder and Owning Object, what is the simplest way to load the UIView into my code? I have not been able to get loadNibNamed:owner:options: to work at this point, but suspect the answer will involve it somehow.

• T-SQL: Build Nested Set From Parent-Child Relationship

  I have a table that stores my Customer hierarchy with a nested set (due to the specific design of the application, I wasn't able to leverage just a Customer/Parent Customer mapping table). To simplify maintenance of this table, I've built a couple of stored procedures to handle moving nodes around and creating new nodes, but it's significantly more work than maintaining a Customer/Parent Customer table. Further, these structures are very fragile. So I'm looking for a way to have a Customer/Parent Customer table and then convert that table to a nested set on demand. Does anyone have a link to such an implementation?

  Hey All, Say I have a post table containing the fields post_id and parent_post_id. I want to return every record in the post table with a count of the "depth" of the post. By depth, I mean, how many parent and ancestor records exist.   I have a class that need to be serialized (for both persistentcy and client-server communication) for simplicity reasons lets call the classes Business a BusinessData and I prefix for their Interfaces. All the getter and setter are delegated from Business class to BusinessData class. I thought about implementing IBusinessData interface that will contain all the getter and setters and IBusiness interface that will extend it. I can either make Business extend BuisnessData so I will not need to implement all getter and setter delegates, or make some abstract class ForwardingBusinessData that will only delegate getter and setters. Any of the above option I loose my hierarchy freedom, does any of you have any creative solution for this problem... I also reviewed DAO pattern: http://java.sun.com/blueprints/patterns/DAO.html

  Hi there, I have a long View Controllers hierarchy; in the first View Controller I use this code: SecondViewController *svc = [[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SecondViewController" bundle:nil]; [self presentModalViewController:svc animated:YES]; [svc release]; In the second View Controller I use this code: ThirdViewController *tvc = [[ThirdViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ThirdViewController" bundle:nil]; [self presentModalViewController:tvc animated:YES]; [tvc release]; and so on. So there is a moment when I have many View Controllers and I need to come back to the first View Controller. If I come back one step at once, I use in every View Controller this code: [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; If I want to go back directly from the, say, sixth View Controller to the first one, what I have to do to dismiss all the Controllers at once? • Accessing NHibernate Repository using ASP.NET Ajax WebMethod

  Hi there! on my page I have a save button that gets the values from the form and then saves it in the database using NHibernate. This works using ASP.net postback buttons. I have now added an Ajax WebMethod to make things sleek and quicker. Howver, when trying to access the data in the repository it doesn't seem to get it. I am passing in the correct values, and everything looks the same as when you are using the postback but no Joy! I should point out here that I'm a newbie with NHibernate and I'm working with someone elses code. Here's the code: the main problem is this line: Solution.Entities.Hierarchy.Tag tag = tagRep.Get(tagId); The tagID is fine, but when it does the get no exception is raised it just comes out the method and goes back to the page???? http://pastebin.com/cBTp9pnC Anyone have any ideas? • Lackadaisical One-to-One between Char and Byte Streams

  I expected to have a one-to-one correspondence between the character streams and byte streams in terms of how the classes are organized in their hierarchy. FilterReader and FilterWriter (character streams) correspond back to FilterInputStream and FilterOutputStream (byte stream) classes. However I noticed few changes as - BufferedInputStream extends FilterInputStream, but BufferedReader does NOT extend FilterReader. BufferedOutputStream and PrintStream both extend FilterOutputStream, but BufferedWriter and PrintWriter does NOT extend FilterWriter. FilterInputStream and FilterOutputStream are not abstract classes, but FilterReader and FilterWriter are. I am not sure if I am being too paranoid to point out such differences, but was just curious to know if there was design reasoning behind such decision.

• What's wrong with my svn:ignore pattern?

  I have the pattern svn:ignore datasheets/*/*.pdf It is supposed to ignore all pdfs that are at an arbitrary depth under multiple "datasheet" directories under the current root folder. As an example: say I have a dir structure like this Websites -web1 -dataSheets -AT -ignore.pdf -BE -NL -ignore.pdf -FR -ignore.pdf -ignore2.pdf -licenseAgreements -important.pdf -web2 -datasheets -etc In this example the pattern needs to ignore all the ignore.pdfs without ingoring the important.pdf too. The shown pattern still includes all my pdf files. I know there are a bunch of similar questions, but none of them seem to tackle the problem with the various hierarchy levels.

  Ola Folks, In an iPhone application I am displaying different views by using the addSubView:SomeViewController.view method. I want to be able to, at the very least, log the view controllers that are in the view hierarchy that is being displayed. I would prefer to be able to get a handle to a specific view controller. I know how to iterate the views, I just do not see how to access the view controllers of those views. I am looking for something that will give me the type of access to the view controllers that UINavigationController::ViewControllers does. I thought I could get away with: for (UIViewController* oVC in [self.view subviews]) but this is not having the intended effect. If someone has a way of doing this, please share it with me. -isdi-

• Documenting a policy based design

  I'm re-working some prototype code into a policy based design in C++, and I'm wondering what the best practice is for documenting the design. My current plan is to document: Policy hierarchy Overview of each policy Description of each type/value/function in each policy I was thinking of putting this into a doxygen module, but this looks like it will be a bit awkward since formatting will have to be done by hand without code to base the doc on (that is, documenting the policies rather than the implementation of the policies). So my questions are: Are there other aspects of the design that should be documented? Are there any tricks to doing this efficiently in doxygen? Is there a tool other than doxygen thats better suited to this? What are some examples of well documented policy based design? This is my first serious attempt at policy based design. I think I have a working grasp of the principles, but whatever naivety I expose in this question is fair game for an answer too.

  A while back I read (before I lost it) a great book called GUI Bloopers which was full of examples of bad GUI design but also full of useful tidbits like Don't call something a Dialog one minute and a Popup the next. What top tips would you give for designing/documenting a GUI? It would be particularly useful to hear about widgets you designed to cram readable information into as little screen real-estate as possible. I'm going to roll this off with one of my own: avoid trees (e.g. Swing's JTree) unless you really can't avoid it, or have a unbounded hierarchy of stuff. I have found that users don't find them intuitive and they are hard to navigate and filter. PS. I think this question differs from this one as I'm asking for generalist tips

• Hierarchical Hibernate, how many queries are executed?

  So I've been dealing with a home brew DB framework that has some seriously flaws, the justification for use being that not using an ORM will save on the number of queries executed. If I'm selecting all possibile records from the top level of a joinable object hierarchy, how many separate calls to the DB will be made when using an ORM (such as Hibernate)? I feel like calling bullshit on this, as joinable entities should be brought down in one query , right? Am I missing something here? note: lazy initialization doesn't matter in this scenario as all records will be used.

• Problem with Eclipse and a Maven multi-module project

  I have created a Maven project with the following structure: + root-project pom.xml (pom) + sub-projectA (jar) + sub-projectB (jar) I have done the following steps: mvn archetype:create –DgroupId=my.group.id –DartifactId=root-project mvn archetype:create –DgroupId=my.group.id –DartifactId=sub-projectA mvn archetype:create –DgroupId=my.group.id –DartifactId=sub-projectB So I have, obviously, in the top-level pom.xml the following elements: <modules> <module>sub-projectA</module> <module>sub-projectB</module> </modules> The last step was: mvn eclipse:clean eclipse:eclipse Now if I import the root-project in Eclipse, it seems to look at my projects as resources and not like java projects. However if I import each of child projects sub-projectA and sub-projectB, it looks them like java projects. This is a big problem for me because I have a deeper hierarchy. Any help would be appreciated!

• Restrict violation of architecture - asp.net MVP

  If we had a defined hierarchy in an application. For ex a 3 - tier architecture, how do we restrict subsequent developers from violating the norms? For ex, in case of MVP (not asp.net MVC) architecture, the presenter should always bind the model and view. This helps in writing proper unit test programs. However, we had instances where people directly imported the model in view and called the functions violating the norms and hence the test cases couldn't be written properly. Is there a way we can restrict which classes are allowed to inherit from a set of classes? I am looking at various possibilities, including adopting a different design pattern, however a new approach should be worth the code change involved.

Every time a child folder is created in the nested structure, the previous parentID is added. I want to get the RootFolderID of a folder which is added in the hierarchy as tabulated below. • Handle Enter Key on Website (ASP and VB)

  So I have a website with multiple asp controls. When I press enter inside by login form, the search function runs because it's the first thing found on the page. How would I handle the enter button so that when the active textbox is for the login form, the loginbutton code actually runs rather than the searchbutton. One last problem is that the login controls are inside a loginview so the hierarchy shows that the asp:textbox and asp:button for logging in are inside 3 tags like so: <loginview> <login> <logintemplate> //controls are here. </logintemplate> </login> Just a note that all controls are asp and that all code is prefered in VB. • Why does SQLite not bring back any results from my database

  This is my first SQLite based iPhone app and I am trying to get it to read a menu hierarchy from my database. • Recreating iPhone stock application with nested views

  I am trying to create an app similar to the Yahoo Stocks app that comes on the iPhone, with the split-screen interface (table on the top, graph on the bottom). I'm struggling with the view hierarchy. What is the easiest way to implement a split-screen type of application. I basically want two views nested in a parent view. My problem is a little bit more complex because I want functionality like having a uipagecontrol (does this require another viewcontroller, or is simply implemented in the initial view controller)? To what degree do I need to use IB? I would prefer to do this all in Xcode. Thanks in advance!

  Hi, I tried using Apple's shell script to automate doc set creation with every build (and loading that in XCode) - http://developer.apple.com/tools/creatingdocsetswithdoxygen.html but found that it had some bugs. Firstly it's not updating the entries in doxygen.config, perhaps one needs to put the settings in the exact hierarchy as it appears in the native doxygen file (?).
