  • What does msvc 6 throw when an integer divide by zero occurs?

    - by EvilTeach
    I have been doing a bit of experimenting, and have discovered that an exception is being thrown, when an integer divide by zero occurs. #include <iostream> #include <stdexcept> using namespace std; int main ( void ) { try { int x = 3; int y = 0; int z = x / y; cout << "Didn't throw or signal" << endl; } catch (std::exception &e) { cout << "Caught exception " << e.what() << endl; } return 0; } Clearly it is not throwing a std::exception. What else might it be throwing?

  • Does the specific signed integer matter when implementing compareTo in a Comparable <Type> class?

    - by javanix
When implementing compareTo(), does the degree of "difference" need to be taken into account? For instance, if I have 3 objects, C1, C2, and C3, such that C1 < C2 < C3. Should C1.compareTo(C2) return an integer that is less than C2.compareTo(C3)? The documentation for the Comparable interface doesn't seem to specify one way or another, so I'm guessing the degree doesn't matter, but it would be nice to know if there is some advantage returning a specific number (for example, improving TreeSet sort speed or something). http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Comparable.html#compareTo(T)

  • How can i take only integer input from keyboard and if input is invalid how do i ask user agaian

  • Why is floating point byte swapping different from integer byte swapping?

    - by CJ
I have a binary file of doubles that I need to load using C++. However, my problem is that it was written in big-endian format but the fstream operator will then read the number wrong because my machine is little-endian. It seems like a simple problem to resolve for integers, but for doubles and floats the solutions I have found won't work. How can I (or should I) fix this? I read this as a reference for integer byte swapping: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/105252/how-do-i-convert-between-big-endian-and-little-endian-values-in-c

  • Given two lines on a plane, how to find integer points closest to their interseciton?

    - by Lukasz Lew
I can't solve it: You are given 8 integers: A, B, C representing a line on a plane with equation A*x + B*y = C a, b, c representing another line x, y representing a point on a plane The two lines are not parallel therefore divide plane into 4 pieces. Point (x, y) lies inside of one these pieces. Problem: Write a fast algorithm that will find a point with integer coordinates in the same piece as (x,y) that is closest to the cross point of the two given lines. Note: This is not a homework, this is old Euler-type task that I have absolutely no idea how to approach.

  • How to convert string "0671" or "0x45" into integer form with 0 and 0x in the beginning.

    - by Harshit Sharma
I wanted to make my own encryption algorithm and decryption algorithm , encryption algorithm works fine and converts ascii value of the characters into alternate hexadecimal and octal representations. But when I tried decryption, problem occured as it return int('0671') = 671, as 0671 is string type in the following code. Is there a method to convert "ox56" into integer form?????? NOTE: Following string is alternate octal and hexa of ascii value of char. ///////////////DECRYPTION/////// l="01630x7401620x6901560x67" f=len(l) k=0 d=0 x=[] for i in range(0,f,4): g=l[i:i+4] print g k=k+1 if(k%2==0): p=g print p else: p=int(g) print p

  • Why does concatenating a boolean value return an integer?

    - by joshhunt
In python, you can concatenate boolean values, and it would return an integer. Example: >>> True True >>> True + True 2 >>> True + False 1 >>> True + True + True 3 >>> True + True + False 2 >>> False + False 0 Why? Why does this make sense? I understand that True is often represented as 1, whereas False is represented as 0, but that still does not explain how adding two values together of the same type returns a completely different type.

  • Why does DateTime to Unix time use a double instead of an integer?

    - by Earlz
    I'm needing to convert a DateTime to a Unix timestamp. So I googled it looking for some example code In just about all the results I see, they use double as the return for such a function, even when explicitly using floor to convert it to an integer. Unix timestamps are always integers. So what problem is there with using either long or int instead of double? static double ConvertToUnixTimestamp(DateTime date) { DateTime origin = new DateTime(1970, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0); TimeSpan diff = date - origin; return Math.Floor(diff.TotalSeconds); }

  • How to determine if a decimal/double is an integer?

    - by Jim Geurts
How do I tell if a decimal or double is an integer? For example: decimal d = 5.0; // Would be true decimal f = 5.5; // Would be false or double d = 5.0; // Would be true double f = 5.5; // Would be false The reason I would like to know this, is so that I can determine programmatically if I want to output the value using .ToString("N0") or .ToString("N2"). If there is no decimal point value, then I don't want to show that.

  • Can using non primitive Integer/ Long datatypes too frequently in the application, hurt the performance??

    - by Marcos
I am using Long/Integer data types very frequently in my application, to build Generic datatypes. I fear that using these wrapper objects instead of primitive data types may be harmful for performance since each time it needs to create objects which is an expensive operation. but also it seems that I have no other choice(when I have to use primtives with generics) rather than just using them. However, still it would be great if you can suggest if there is anything I could do to make it better. or any way if I could just avoid it ?? Also What may be the downsides of this ? Suggestions welcomed!

  • Warning: non-integer #successes in a binomial glm! (survey packages)

    - by longrob
I am using the twang package to create propensity scores, which are used as weigtings in a binomial glm using survey::svyglm. The code looks something like this: pscore <- ps(ppci ~ var1+var2+.........., data=dt....) dt$w <- get.weights(pscore, stop.method="es.mean") design.ps <- svydesign(ids=~1, weights=~w, data=dt,) glm1 <- svyglm(m30 ~ ppci, design=design.ps,family=binomial) This produces the following warning: Warning message: In eval(expr, envir, enclos) : non-integer #successes in a binomial glm! Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong ? I wasn't sure if this message would be better on stats.SE, but on balance I thought I would try here first.

  • 'array bound is not an integer constant' when defining size of array in class, using an element of a const array

    - by user574733

Other people with this problem seem to be trying to dynamically allocate arrays. Any help is much appreciated.

  • In SQL how do I get the maximum value for an integer?

    - by CoffeeMonster
Hi, I am trying to find out the maximum value for an integer (signed or unsigned) from a MySQL database. Is there a way to pull back this information from the database itself? Are there any built-in constants or functions I can use (either standard SQL or MySQL specific). At http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/numeric-types.html it lists the values - but is there a way for the database to tell me. The following gives me the MAX_BIGINT - what I'd like is the MAX_INT. SELECT CAST( 99999999999999999999999 AS SIGNED ) as max_int; # max_int | 9223372036854775807 Thanks in advance,

  • What is the most efficient way to pass data (list of pairs of [Integer + Double]) between two Google App Engine instances?

    - by ruslan
What is the most efficient way to pass data (list of pairs of [Integer, Double]) between two Google App Engine instances ? Currently I use Java binary serialization. Frontend servlet receives data from the client in JSON format. I convert it to byte[] using ObjectOutput.writeObject and then send it to backend servlet via HTTP POST. It's not in production yet. Should I just pass client's JSON as it is to backend? It seems more logical. But it's bigger in size. Or should I use Google Protocol Buffers as stated in this benchmark article ? Thank you!!!

  • How can I put a string and an integer into the same array?

    - by Stelios M
I have to following code. I want this to return an array e.g. arg[] that contains at arg[0] the number of the rows of my cursor and at arg[1] String(0) of my cursor. Since one is integer and the other is string I have a problem. Any ideas how to fix this? public String[] getSubcategoriesRow(String id){ this.openDataBase(); String[] asColumnsToReturn = new String[] {SECOND_COLUMN_ID,SECOND_COLUMN_SUBCATEGORIES,}; Cursor cursor = this.dbSqlite.query(SECOND_TABLE_NAME, asColumnsToReturn, SECOND_COLUMN_SUBCATEGORIES + "= \"" + id + "\"", null, null, null, null); String string = cursor.getString(0); int count = cursor.getCount(); String arg[] = new String[]{count, string}; cursor.close(); return arg; } The cursor and the results and correct i just need to compine them to an array in order to return that.

  • How are integers casted to bytes in Java?

    - by helixed
I know Java doesn't allow unsigned types, so I was wondering how it casts an integer to a byte. Say I have an integer a with a value of 255 and I cast the integer to a byte. Is the value represented in the byte 11111111? In other words, is the value treated more as a signed 8 bit integer, or does it just directly copy the last 8 bits of the integer? Thanks, helixed

  • Integers not properly returned from a property list (plist) array in Objective-C

    - by Gaurav
In summary, I am having a problem where I read what I expect to be an NSNumber from an NSArray contained in a property list and instead of getting a number such as '1', I get what looks to be a memory address (i.e. '61879840'). The numbers are clearly correct in the property list. Below is my process for creating the property list and reading it back. Creating the property list I have created a simple Objective-C property list with arrays of integers within one root array: <array> <array> <integer>1</integer> <integer>2</integer> </array> <array> <integer>1</integer> <integer>2</integer> <integer>5</integer> </array> ... more arrays with integers ... </array> The arrays are NSArray objects and the integers are NSNumber objects. The property list has been created and serialized using the following code: // factorArray is an NSArray that contains NSArrays of NSNumbers as described above // serialize and compress factorArray as a property list, Factors-bin.plist NSString *error; NSString *rootPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *plistPath = [rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"Factors-bin.plist"]; NSData *plistData = [NSPropertyListSerialization dataFromPropertyList:factorArray format:NSPropertyListBinaryFormat_v1_0 errorDescription:&error]; Inspecting the created plist, all values and types are correct. Reading the property list The property list is read in as Data and then converted to an NSArray: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Factors" ofType:@"plist"]; NSData *plistData = [[NSData alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; NSPropertyListFormat format; NSString *error = nil; NSArray *factorData = (NSArray *)[NSPropertyListSerialization propertyListFromData:plistData mutabilityOption:NSPropertyListImmutable format:&format errorDescription:&error]; Cycling through factorData to see what it contains is where I see the erroneous integers: for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) { NSArray *factorList = (NSArray *)[factorData objectAtIndex:i]; NSLog(@"Factors of %d\n", i + 1); for (int j = 0; j < [factorList count]; j++) { NSLog(@" %d\n", (NSNumber *)[factorList objectAtIndex:j]); } } I see all the correct number of values, but the values themselves are incorrect, i.e.: Factors of 3 61879840 (should be 1) 61961200 (should be 3) Factors of 4 61879840 (should be 1) 61943472 (should be 2) 61943632 (should be 4) Factors of 5 61879840 (should be 1) 61943616 (should be 5)

  • Getting my string value from my form into my class( not another form)

    - by jovany

As you can see I've placed several traces and in the property of the class my trace works fine , however if I look in my Draw function it is already gone. And I get a blank trace. Does anyone know what's happening here. thanks in advance. (forgive me I'm new )

  • Symfony2 Entity to array

    - by Adriano Pedro
I'm trying to migrate my flat php project to Symfony2, but its coming to be very hard. For instance, I have a table of Products specification that have several specifications and are distinguishables by its "cat" attribute in that Extraspecs DB table. Therefore I've created a Entity for that table and want to make an array of just the specifications with "cat" = 0... I supose the code is this one.. right? $typeavailable = $this->getDoctrine() ->getRepository('LabsCatalogBundle:ProductExtraspecsSpecs') ->findBy(array('cat' => '0')); Now how can i put this in an array to work with a form like this?: form = $this ->createFormBuilder($product) ->add('specs', 'choice', array('choices' => $typeavailableArray), 'multiple' => true) Thank you in advance :) # Thank you all.. But now I've came across with another problem.. In fact i'm building a form from an existing object: $form = $this ->createFormBuilder($product) ->add('name', 'text') ->add('genspec', 'choice', array('choices' => array('0' => 'None', '1' => 'General', '2' => 'Specific'))) ->add('isReg', 'choice', array('choices' => array('0' => 'Material', '1' => 'Reagent', '2' => 'Antibody', '3' => 'Growth Factors', '4' => 'Rodents', '5' => 'Lagomorphs'))) So.. in that case my current value is named "extraspecs", so i've added this like: ->add('extraspecs', 'entity', array( 'label' => 'desc', 'empty_value' => ' --- ', 'class' => 'LabsCatalogBundle:ProductExtraspecsSpecs', 'property' => 'specsid', 'query_builder' => function(EntityRepository $er) { return $er ->createQueryBuilder('e'); But "extraspecs" come from a relationship of oneToMany where every product has several extraspecs... Here is the ORM: Labs\CatalogBundle\Entity\Product: type: entity table: orders__regmat id: id: type: integer generator: { strategy: AUTO } fields: name: type: string length: 100 catnumber: type: string scale: 100 brand: type: integer scale: 10 company: type: integer scale: 10 size: type: decimal scale: 10 units: type: integer scale: 10 price: type: decimal scale: 10 reqcert: type: integer scale: 1 isReg: type: integer scale: 1 genspec: type: integer scale: 1 oneToMany: extraspecs: targetEntity: ProductExtraspecs mappedBy: product Labs\CatalogBundle\Entity\ProductExtraspecs: type: entity table: orders__regmat__extraspecs fields: extraspecid: id: true type: integer unsigned: false nullable: false generator: strategy: IDENTITY regmatid: type: integer scale: 11 spec: type: integer scale: 11 attrib: type: string length: 20 value: type: string length: 200 lifecycleCallbacks: { } manyToOne: product: targetEntity: Product inversedBy: extraspecs joinColumn: name: regmatid referencedColumnName: id HOw should I do this? • Stepping into Ruby Meta-Programming: Generating proxy methods for multiple internal methods

    - by mstksg
Hi all; I've multiply heard Ruby touted for its super spectacular meta-programming capabilities, and I was wondering if anyone could help me get started with this problem. I have a class that works as an "archive" of sorts, with internal methods that process and output data based on an input. However, the items in the archive in the class itself are represented and processed with integers, for performance purposes. The actual items outside of the archive are known by their string representation, which is simply number_representation.to_s(36). Because of this, I have hooked up each internal method with a "proxy method" that converts the input into the integer form that the archive recognizes, runs the internal method, and converts the output (either a single other item, or a collection of them) back into strings. The naming convention is this: internal methods are represented by _method_name; their corresponding proxy method is represented by method_name, with no leading underscore. For example: class Archive ## PROXY METHODS ## ## input: string representation of id's ## output: string representation of id's def do_something_with id result = _do_something_with id.to_i(36) return nil if result == nil return result.to_s(36) end def do_something_with_pair id_1,id_2 result = _do_something_with_pair id_1.to_i(36), id_2.to_i(36) return nil if result == nil return result.to_s(36) end def do_something_with_these ids result = _do_something_with_these ids.map { |n| n.to_i(36) } return nil if result == nil return result.to_s(36) end def get_many_from id result = _get_many_from id return nil if result == nil # no sparse arrays returned return result.map { |n| n.to_s(36) } end ## INTERNAL METHODS ## ## input: integer representation of id's ## output: integer representation of id's def _do_something_with id # does something with one integer-represented id, # returning an id represented as an integer end def do_something_with_pair id_1,id_2 # does something with two integer-represented id's, # returning an id represented as an integer end def _do_something_with_these ids # does something with multiple integer ids, # returning an id represented as an integer end def _get_many_from id # does something with one integer-represented id, # returns a collection of id's represented as integers end end There are a couple of reasons why I can't just convert them if id.class == String at the beginning of the internal methods: These internal methods are somewhat computationally-intensive recursive functions, and I don't want the overhead of checking multiple times at every step There is no way, without adding an extra parameter, to tell whether or not to re-convert at the end I want to think of this as an exercise in understanding ruby meta-programming Does anyone have any ideas? edit The solution I'd like would preferably be able to take an array of method names @@PROXY_METHODS = [:do_something_with, :do_something_with_pair, :do_something_with_these, :get_many_from] iterate through them, and in each iteration, put out the proxy method. I'm not sure what would be done with the arguments, but is there a way to test for arguments of a method? If not, then simple duck typing/analogous concept would do as well.

  • Problem displaying contents of a class in Java

    - by LuckySlevin
My problem is i have a class and in it there is a list of elements of another class. public class Branch { private ArrayList<Player> players = new ArrayList<Player>(); String brName; public Branch() {} public void setBr(String brName){this.brName = brName;} public String getBr(){return brName;} public ArrayList<Player> getPlayers() { return players; } public void setPlayers(ArrayList<Player> players) { this.players =new ArrayList<Player>(players); } } public class Player { private String name; private String pos; private Integer salary; private Integer number; public Player(String name, String pos, Integer salary, Integer number) { this.name = name; this.pos = pos; this.salary = salary; this.number = number; } public Player(){} public String getName() { return name; } public String getPos() { return pos; } public Integer getSalary() { return salary; } public Integer getNumber() { return number; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } public void setPos(String pos) { this.pos = pos; } public void setSalary(Integer salary) { this.salary = salary; } public void setNumber(Integer number) { this.number = number; } } My problem is to print the players of a Branch with their name, pos, salary, number. For this i tried this simply : String p1,p2; int a1,a2; p1 = input.readLine(); p2 = input.readLine(); a1 = Integer.parseInt(input.readLine()); a2 = Integer.parseInt(input.readLine()); players[0].setName(p1); players[0].setPos(p2); players[0].setSalary(a1); players[0].setNumber(a2); ptmp.add(players[0]); myBranch[0].setPlayers(ptmp); System.out.println(myBranch[0].brName + " " + myBranch[0].getPlayers()); I wrote this just to try how to display. I created an array of Players, and Branches so they already defined. The problem is getPlayers() doesn't give me any result. What is the way to do this?

  • SQL SERVER – Introduction to Adaptive ETL Tool – How adaptive is your ETL?

    - by pinaldave
I am often reminded by the fact that BI/data warehousing infrastructure is very brittle and not very adaptive to change. There are lots of basic use cases where data needs to be frequently loaded into SQL Server or another database. What I have found is that as long as the sources and targets stay the same, SSIS or any other ETL tool for that matter does a pretty good job handling these types of scenarios. But what happens when you are faced with more challenging scenarios, where the data formats and possibly the data types of the source data are changing from customer to customer?  Let’s examine a real life situation where a health management company receives claims data from their customers in various source formats. Even though this company supplied all their customers with the same claims forms, they ended up building one-off ETL applications to process the claims for each customer. Why, you ask? Well, it turned out that the claims data from various regional hospitals they needed to process had slightly different data formats, e.g. “integer” versus “string” data field definitions.  Moreover the data itself was represented with slight nuances, e.g. “0001124” or “1124” or “0000001124” to represent a particular account number, which forced them, as I eluded above, to build new ETL processes for each customer in order to overcome the inconsistencies in the various claims forms.  As a result, they experienced a lot of redundancy in these ETL processes and recognized quickly that their system would become more difficult to maintain over time. So imagine for a moment that you could use an ETL tool that helps you abstract the data formats so that your ETL transformation process becomes more reusable. Imagine that one claims form represents a data item as a string – acc_no(varchar) – while a second claims form represents the same data item as an integer – account_no(integer). This would break your traditional ETL process as the data mappings are hard-wired.  But in a world of abstracted definitions, all you need to do is create parallel data mappings to a common data representation used within your ETL application; that is, map both external data fields to a common attribute whose name and type remain unchanged within the application. acc_no(varchar) is mapped to account_number(integer) expressor Studio first claim form schema mapping account_no(integer) is also mapped to account_number(integer) expressor Studio second claim form schema mapping All the data processing logic that follows manipulates the data as an integer value named account_number. Well, these are the kind of problems that that the expressor data integration solution automates for you.  I’ve been following them since last year and encourage you to check them out by downloading their free expressor Studio ETL software. • Binding Contents of a ListBox to Selected Item from Another Listbox w/JSF & Managed Beans

    - by nieltown
    Hi there! I currently have a JSF application that uses two listboxes. The first, say ListBox1, contains a list of manufacturers; each option comes from the database (via a method getManufacturers in a class called QueryUtil), is populated dynamically, and its value is an integer ID. This part works so far. My goal is to populate a second listbox, say ListBox2, with a list of products sold by the manufacturer. This list of products will come from the database as well (products are linked to a manufacturer via a foreign key relationship, via a method getProducts in my QueryUtil class). How do I go about doing this? Please bear in mind that I've been working with JSF for under 24 hours; I'm willing to accept the fact that I'm missing something very rudimentary. Again, I've been able to populate the list of manufacturers just fine; unfortunately, adding the Products component gives me java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: argument type mismatch faces-config.xml <managed-bean> <managed-bean-name>ProductsBean</managed-bean-name> <managed-bean-class>com.nieltown.ProductsBean</managed-bean-class> <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope> <managed-property> <property-name>manufacturers</property-name> <property-class>java.util.ArrayList</property-class> <value>#{manufacturers}</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>selectedManufacturer</property-name> <property-class>java.lang.Integer</property-name> <value>#{selectedManufacturer}</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>products</property-name> <property-class>java.util.ArrayList</property-class> <value>#{products}</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>selectedProduct</property-name> <property-class>java.lang.Integer</property-name> <value>#{selectedProducts}</value> <managed-property> </managed-bean> com.nieltown.ProductsBean public class ProductsBean { private List<SelectItem> manufacturers; private List<SelectItem> products; private Integer selectedManufacturer; private Integer selectedProduct; public ProductsBean() {} public Integer getSelectedManufacturer(){ return selectedManufacturer; } public void setSelectedManufacturer(Integer m){ selectedManufacturer = m; } public Integer getSelectedProduct(){ return selectedProduct; } public void setSelectedProduct(Integer p){ selectedProduct = p; } public List<SelectItem> getManufacturers(){ if(manufacturers == null){ SelectItem option; plans = new ArrayList<SelectItem>(); QueryUtil qu = new QueryUtil(); Map<Integer, String> manufacturersMap = qu.getManufacturers(); for(Map.Entry<Integer, String> entry : manufacturersMap.entrySet()){ option = new SelectItem(entry.getKey(),entry.getValue()); manufacturers.add(option); } } return manufacturers; } public void setManufacturers(List<SelectItem> l){ manufacturers = l; } public List<SelectItem> getProducts(){ if(products == null){ SelectItem option; products = new ArrayList<SelectItem>(); if(selectedPlan != null){ PMTQueryUtil pqu = new PMTQueryUtil(); Map<Integer, String> productsMap = pqu.getProducts(); for(Map.Entry<Integer, String> entry : productsMap.entrySet()){ option = new SelectItem(entry.getKey(),entry.getValue()); products.add(option); } } } return products; } public void setProducts(List<SelectItem> l){ products = l; } } JSP fragment <h:selectOneListbox id="manufacturerList" value="#{ProductsBean.selectedManufacturer}" size="10"> <f:selectItems value="#{ProductsBean.manufacturers}" /> </h:selectOneListbox> <h:selectOneListbox id="productList" value="#{PendingPlansBean.selectedProduct}" size="10"> <f:selectItems binding="#{ProductsBean.products}" /> </h:selectOneListbox>
