  • Emails forwarded via postfix get flagged as spam and forged in Gmail

    - by Kendall Hopkins
I'm trying to setup a forwarding only email server. I'm running into the problem where all messages forwarded via postfix are getting put into gmail's spam folder and getting flagged as forged. I'm testing a very similar setup on a cpanel box and their forwarded emails make it through without any problem. Things I've done: Setup reverse dns on forwarding box Setup SPF record for forwarding box domain CPanel route (not flagged as spam): [email protected] - [email protected] - [email protected] AWS postfix route (flagged as spam): [email protected] - [email protected] - [email protected] Gmail error message: /etc/postfix/main.cf myhostname = sputnik.*domain*.com smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu) biff = no append_dot_mydomain = no readme_directory = no myorigin = /etc/mailname mydestination = sputnik.*domain*.com, localhost.*domain*.com, , localhost relayhost = mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 10.0.0.0/24 [::1]/128 [fe80::%eth0]/64 mailbox_size_limit = 0 recipient_delimiter = + inet_interfaces = all inet_protocols = all virtual_alias_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/virtual Email forwarded by CPanel (doesn't get marked as spam): Delivered-To: *personaluser*@gmail.com Received: by 10.182.144.98 with SMTP id sl2csp14396obb; Wed, 9 May 2012 09:18:36 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.182.52.38 with SMTP id q6mr1137571obo.8.1336580316700; Wed, 09 May 2012 09:18:36 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <mail@*personaldomain*.com> Received: from web6.*domain*.com (173.193.55.66-static.reverse.softlayer.com. • Troubleshooting PHP email sending?

    - by darkAsPitch
I created a website that occasionally emails users when they register/change their password/etc. Every other person however cannot or does not receive the emails. They are telling me that they are not even hitting their spam folders. I don't know a ton about MX records or email sending, but when I "Edit DNS Zone" for this domain in particular there is 1 MX record listed there. How do you go about troubleshooting botched PHP mail actions? UPDATE: Here is my super-simple php mailing code: $subject = "Subject Here"; $message = "Emails Message"; $to = $verified_user_data["email_address"]; $headers = "From: [email protected]\r\n" . "Reply-To: [email protected]\r\n" . "X-Mailer: PHP/" . phpversion(); //returns true on success, false on failure $email_result = mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers); re: "are you saying that some do and some do not?" @ Jacob Yes, basically. I send the emails containing the user's login username/password using similar code above. And I sell to fairly tech-savvy people. About 50% of the time, my customers claim they cannot find their welcome emails in their inbox OR in their spam box. It's as if it never arrived. I have the largest problem with Yahoo email addresses accepting my emails or so it seems. re: "The MX record at your end doesn't factor in, although the SPF record (or lack of it) will. How much access and control do you have on the server itself?" @ John Gardeniers I rent a dedicated server from Codero. Running CentOS 5, WHM + cPanel. I have full root access to the entire thing. Don't know much about MX records and/or SPF records. I just want the PHP mail function to work. It doesn't say much about that on the php mail function's help page. re: "What are you using for the SMTP server?" @ JonLim No idea. I use the code above when I need to fire off an email to a loyal customer, and that's it. Do I need to be worrying about SMTP servers? re: "Could be many, many things. Can you describe how you're sending mail in your code? i.e. are you relaying off of another mail server somewhere, using the local sendmail or postfix? Any consistency in domains that can/cannot receive email? Do you have a PTR record setup from the IP address that you're sending mail out as? What about SPF records?" @ gravyface I just described my simple code above! I believe I have been having the most trouble with Yahoo domains, however "independent" domains (probably running spamassasin) ex. [email protected] as opposed to [email protected] seem to give a lot of trouble as well. I do not know if I have a PTR record setup from the IP address I'm sending my mail from. It's probably the same IP address that I setup my domain on, because I didn't do anything extra special. No idea about SPF records either, where can I go to create one? Side Note: It's a crying shame what havoc the spammers have brought upon our beloved email system.

  • CodeIgniter - Disallowed Key Characters via $_GET

    - by rkj
I am getting echoed "Disallowed Key Characters." in my CodeIgniter when I have a http_cookie sent via GET from a SSL relay site (a payment gateway) to my application. My question is if there's any way that I can get this http_cookie through this "_clean_input_keys" method that cause this Disallowed-message and exits? The parameter contains a getenv("HTTP_COOKIE") set into a hidden input and needs to be used to keep the session alive even though it will be sent to the relay site and back again. The HTTP_COOKIE string looks like: &HTTP_COOKIE=PHPSESSID=775572c8c3b161bc957281aa901eb09c;%20ci_session=a%3A4%3A{s%3A10%3A%22session_id%22%3Bs%3A32%3A%229666689e0c8e4f26fb38889351765304%22%3Bs%3A10%3A%22ip_address%22%3Bs%3A14%3A%2127.0.0.1%22%3Bs%3A10%3A%22user_agent%22%3Bs%3A50%3A%22Mozilla%2F5.0+%28Macintosh%3B+U%3B+Intel+Mac+OS+X+10.6%3B+da%22%3Bs%3A13%3A%22last_activity%22%3Bs%3A10%3A%221271145332%22%3B}d9b9df5d8a0b51f303cbe6bb4bbe497e

  • How to setup custom DNS with Azure Websites Preview?

    - by husainnz
I created a new Azure Website, using Umbraco as the CMS. I got a page up and going, and I already have a .co.nz domain with www.domains4less.com. There's a whole lot of stuff on the internet about pointing URLs to Azure, but that seems to be more of a redirection service than anything (i.e. my URLs still use azurewebsites.net once I land on my site). Has anybody had any luck getting it to go? Here's the error I get when I try adding the DNS entry to Azure (I'm in reserved mode, reemdairy is the name of the website): There was an error processing your request. • Nginx Ubuntu Postfix Config - Can't connect to incoming IMAP server 'server not responding' but can send mail via outgoing using same details?

    - by daveaspinall
I'm pretty to new server admin and especially nginx but seem to be getting ok fine apart from accessing my mail via my iPhone? I've changed my domain to 'domain.com' The thing is I can send mail via my outgoing IMAP server but can't connect to the incoming one? I just get the message "the mail server at mail.domain.com is not responding" /etc/postfix/main.cf alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases append_dot_mydomain = no biff = no broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes config_directory = /etc/postfix home_mailbox = Maildir/ inet_interfaces = all inet_protocols = all mailbox_command = mailbox_size_limit = 0 mydestination = domain.com, mail.domain.com, localhost.com, , localhost, localhost.localdomain mydomain = domain.com myhostname = mail.domain.com mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128 myorigin = /etc/mailname recipient_delimiter = + relayhost = smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes smtp_tls_security_level = may smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu) smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated,permit_mynetworks,reject_unauth_destination smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtpd_sasl_local_domain = smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtpd_tls_CAfile = /etc/ssl/certs/cacert.pem smtpd_tls_auth_only = no smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/smtpd.crt smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/smtpd.key smtpd_tls_loglevel = 1 smtpd_tls_received_header = yes smtpd_tls_security_level = may smtpd_tls_session_cache_timeout = 3600s tls_random_source = dev:/dev/urandom telnet localhost 25 ehlo locahost 250-mail.domain.com 250-PIPELINING 250-SIZE 10240000 250-VRFY 250-ETRN 250-STARTTLS 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN 250-AUTH=LOGIN PLAIN 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-8BITMIME 250 DSN Using the following details to connect: username password hostname: mail.domain.com port: 25 iptables --list Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination I also sent mail to the server as a test and got this missage if it helps? Technical details of temporary failure: [mail.domain.com. (10): Connection refused] I also looked in /var/log/mail.log and it has multiple entries of: postfix/smtpd[12239]: connect from 5acefc9a.bb.sky.com[90.206.252.xxx] Mar 23 06:47:09 new-domain postfix/smtpd[12239]: lost connection after CONNECT from 5acefc9a.bb.sky.com[90.206.252.154] Notice new-domain which is incorrect but the server hostname and hostname in the configs are correct? I recently moves servers and the host has set the primary domain on the service as new-domain.com so this may be the issue? Like I said, it works to connect to outgoing server, but incoming gets the not responding error? Any idea would be much appreciated!

  • Having Uploadify e-mail a link to download the file

    - by kwek-kwek
Uploadify is a jQuery plugin that allows the easy integration of a multiple (or single) file uploads on your website. It requires Flash and any backend development language. An array of options allow for full customization for advanced users, but basic implementation is so easy that even coding novices can do it. I wanted to ask if It is possible to sends out a link of a file that has just been uploaded wioth the e-mail notification of Uploadify. Here is the code for uploadify.php : <?php if (!empty($_FILES)) { $tempFile = $_FILES['Filedata']['tmp_name']; $targetPath = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . $_REQUEST['folder'] . '/'; $targetFile = str_replace('//','/',$targetPath) . $_FILES['Filedata']['name']; // $fileTypes = str_replace('*.','',$_REQUEST['fileext']); // $fileTypes = str_replace(';','|',$fileTypes); // $typesArray = split('\|',$fileTypes); // $fileParts = pathinfo($_FILES['Filedata']['name']); // if (in_array($fileParts['extension'],$typesArray)) { // Uncomment the following line if you want to make the directory if it doesn't exist // mkdir(str_replace('//','/',$targetPath), 0755, true); move_uploaded_file($tempFile,$targetFile); echo "1"; // } else { // echo 'Invalid file type.'; // } } //define the receiver of the email $to = '[email protected]'; //define the subject of the email $subject = 'Test email'; //define the message to be sent. Each line should be separated with \n $message = "Hello World!\n\nThis is my first mail."; //define the headers we want passed. Note that they are separated with \r\n $headers = "From: [email protected]\r\nReply-To: [email protected]"; //send the email $mail_sent = @mail( $to, $subject, $message, $headers ); //if the message is sent successfully print "Mail sent". Otherwise print "Mail failed" echo $mail_sent ? "Mail sent" : "Mail failed"; ?>

  • Ruby send mail with smtp

    - by songdogtech
I'm trying to send simple email via Ruby (no rails) on OS X, with XCode (which installs Ruby.) But I'm running into a problem with my smtp server which requires the email client to check mail before sending as a form of authentication. So with the script below I get an error: 500 Unrecognized command (Net::SMTPAuthenticationError). How can I get Ruby to authenticate with the smtp server in a "POP" fashion before I can send mail? Not download mail; I only want to send, but I have to check mail before I send. POP3 is not available at the smtp server. And I want to not have to install any other Ruby pieces and stay with using net/smtp, if at all possible. require 'net/smtp' message = <<MESSAGE_END From: A Test Sender <[email protected]> To: A Test User <[email protected]> Subject: e-mail test This is a test e-mail message. MESSAGE_END Net::SMTP.start('mail.domain.com', 25, 'localhost', '[email protected]', 'password', :plain)

  • PHP Mail() not working on remote server

    - by Amaerth
I am developing an application and have been testing the mail() function in PHP. The following works just fine on my local machine to send emails to myself, but as soon as I try to send it from the testing environment to my local machine, it silently fails. I will still get the "Mail Sent" message, but no message is sent. I turned on the mail logging in the php.ini file, but even that doesn't seem to be populated after I refresh the page. Again, the .php files and php.ini files are identical in both environments. Port 25 has been opened on the testing environment, and we are using a Microsoft Exchange server. <?php $to = "[email protected]"; $subject = "Test mail"; $message = "Hello! This is a simple email message."; $from = "[email protected]"; $headers = "From:" . $from; mail($to,$subject,$message,$headers); echo "Mail Sent."; ?> SMTP area of the php.ini file: [mail function] ; For Win32 only. ; http://php.net/smtp SMTP = exhange.server.org ; http://php.net/smtp-port smtp_port = 25 ; For Win32 only. ; http://php.net/sendmail-from sendmail_from = [email protected]

  • Active Directory and Apple's Workgroup Manager

    - by qbn
I thought I'd share my experiences here. I work for a small business with only ~20 users. I wanted the ability to use managed client preferences to assign things like the software update server. Basically the ability to manage my Macs easily and in a native way. At first I tried the magic triangle solution, but I found this to be very complicated. Not only does it require a Mac OS X Server, but it gives you two points of failure. Additionally each Mac workstation must be bound to both servers. Eventually I sucked it up and went with the schema changes documented here. I was hesitant at first, because the instructions require a lot of manual work. However it was fairly basic and only took me about an hour and a half. Below you'll find the schema changes file that was a result of my work. I followed the instructions exactly and double checked everything, after six months of having this in place things have been running great. Too good to not share. I hope I save someone a couple of hours. # ================================================================== # # This file should be imported with the following command: # ldifde -i -u -f Apple AD Schema Changes.ldf -s server:port -b username domain password -j . -c "cn=Configuration,dc=X" #configurationNamingContext # LDIFDE.EXE from AD/AM V1.0 or above must be used. # This LDIF file should be imported into AD or AD/AM. I have followed this tutorial about setting up an OpenVPN Server on Windows Server - and a client on Windows (in this case Windows 8). The server appears to be running fine - but it is not connecting with this error: Mon Jul 22 19:09:04 2013 Warning: cannot open --log file: C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\log\my-laptop.log: Access is denied. • Troubleshooting Website problems within the local network

    - by HaydnWVN
Have an external website which opens fine on some PC's, yet seems to time out (or symptoms of timing out, but never actually does) on others. Seems to only affect (some) of our newer HP Pro 3305 MT Workstations. All of which are running Win7 32bit SP1 with all updates. Older PC's (Win7 32bit SP1 & WinXP) are unaffected. Using Google Chrome & Firefox makes no difference. Opening the website in IE9 Compatibility Mode has exactly the same symptoms. All PC's are on the same local network (Workgroup) using the same DNS server & gateway (inhouse) on the same internet connection, on the same subnet. There is no proxy server, no content filtering, no load balancing etc etc. Only group policy in effect (locally) is for Update scheduling. Local firewalls are all the same (Kaspersky WP4) and our external facing firewall has no IP specific settings. I have no control over the external website, traceroute shows the same destination on all PC's. It is a fairly popular website in our industry (Horticulture) and i'm not aware of any other people (even other sites within our sister companies) with the same problem. Update: Used Fiddler2 to monitor the HTTP request, seems its not getting fulfilled for some reason?! • Grub loading, please wait. . . Error 22

    - by Aexyn
Yesterday I got a problem which I posted here. Trying to solve it, I installed slitaz live CD to desktop. After that I tried to use boot other live CD's (Ubuntu, Tiny core) but they didn't boot. So I deleted the the slitaz partition through gparted(or something like that) and restarted. After that I am seeing this error message:` GRUB Loading stage 1.5. Starting cmain() ... GRUB loading, please wait... Error 22` UPDATE: I have tried Backtrack live CD to live boot laptop but that doesn't work too.

  • Getting sendmail to install/work for using php mail()

    - by harryg
I'm running WordPress on a Ubuntu VPS. When WordPress tries to send an email like a password reset or registration email it never gets delivered. WordPress uses php's mail() function. I figure it's not working as my VPS didn't have sendmail installed. So I went into SSH and installed it with sudo apt-get install sendmail which appeared to succeed. Following more googled advice I edited the php.ini file to have the sendmail path. I located it as being /usr/sbin/sendmail which I believe is typical for many *nix servers. To check I browsed to this directory on FTP. The "sendmail" directory appears to be a shortcut. Is this correct/expected? Either way the php mail function is not working. I have created a phpinfo file and a test mail php file which contains just a mail() function with my email as the recipient. Note: my VPS doesn't yet have a domain, just an IP address. Would this affect sendmail functionality? My phpinfo is here for your reference: http://95.142.166.209/phpinfo.php Do I also need postfix? I don't think I have it... Here is some of the mail log. I executed the mail function towards the end: Nov 27 18:41:02 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5450]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 19:00:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5497]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 19:01:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5497]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 19:20:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5532]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 19:21:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5532]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 19:40:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5568]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 19:41:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5568]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 20:00:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5605]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 20:01:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5605]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 20:20:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5641]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 20:21:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5641]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 20:40:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5675]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 20:41:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5675]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 21:00:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5712]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 21:01:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5712]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 21:20:02 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5747]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 21:21:02 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5747]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 21:40:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5782]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 21:41:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5782]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 22:00:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5831]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 22:01:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5831]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 22:20:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5866]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 22:21:01 sergeserver sm-msp-queue[5866]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 22:37:19 sergeserver sendmail[5903]: My unqualified host name (sergeserver) unknown; sleeping for retry Nov 27 22:38:19 sergeserver sendmail[5903]: unable to qualify my own domain name (sergeserver) -- using short name Nov 27 22:38:19 sergeserver sendmail[5903]: qARLcJYI005903: from=adminftp, size=158, class=0, nrcpts=0, msgid=<201211272138.qARLcJYI005903@sergeserver>, relay=adminftp@localhost

  • Safely get rid of "You have new mail in /var/mail" on a Mac?

    - by viatropos
I was messing around with sendmail in Rails a year ago and have had this message popping up in the terminal after every command ever since: You have new mail in /var/mail/Lance How do I properly get rid of that so the message goes away? I ever use any of that functionality and don't have mail on my computer. There's one file in /var/mail called lance, and it's huge. Can I just remove it?
