  • How do I export Outlook 2003 distribution lists to Gmail?

    I have several distribution lists in Outlook 2003 that I need to move to Gmail. While transferring contacts in the main folder is fairly easy—all one does is export to CSV and import—it's not as easy with the distribution lists. I can't (don't know how to) copy the contacts from the lists to the main contact folder so they can be "normal", and the "save as" options don't include a CSV. There are several of these to do, containing maybe ~100-200 contacts altogether, so I'd like something that's not very tedious.

  • How can I deploy Windows Server 2003 with the latest service packs across my forest?

    I have a number of servers running different NOS and I would like to get them all running the same standard platform. I have chosen Windows Server 2003 as I have some spare licences for it and it seems mature enough now. I have had issues with Windows Server 2008. Is there a way to get an installation that will have all the latest service packs and updates on it ready to install so I don't have to download updates again for each server?

    When I'm logged into our Windows Server 2003 server, I don't see any ODBC Data Sources, but when a different user logs in (who doesn't have Administrative rights), they have a big list of ODBC Data Sources. Are ODBC Data Sources set on a per-user basis? How come the Administrator can't see user's ODBC Data Sources?

  • How to Transpose Rows and Columns in Excel 2013

    You’ve setup your worksheet with all your row and column headings and you’ve entered all your data. Then, you discover that it would look better if the rows were the columns and the columns were the rows. How do you accomplish this easily? There is an easy way to convert your rows to columns and vice versa using the Transpose feature in Excel. We’ll show you how. Select the cells containing the headings and data you want to transpose. Click Copy or press Ctrl + C. Click in a blank cell on the spreadsheet. This cell will be the top, left corner of the new table of data. Click the down arrow on the Paste button and select Paste Special from the drop-down menu. On the Paste Special dialog box, select the Transpose check box so there is a check mark in the box and click OK. The rows become the columns and the columns become the rows. The original set of data still exists. You can select those cells and delete the headings and data, if desired. Isn’t that a lot easier and faster than retyping all your data?

  • Ruby: Parse Excel 95-2003 files?

    Is there a way to read Excel 97-2003 files from Ruby? Background I'm currently using the Ruby Gem parseexcel -- http://raa.ruby-lang.org/project/parseexcel/ But it is an old port of the perl module. It works fine, but the latest format it parses is Excel 95. And guess what? Excel 2007 will not produce the Excel 95 format. John McNamara has taken over duties as the maintainer for the Perl Excel parser, see http://search.cpan.org/~jmcnamara/Spreadsheet-ParseExcel-0.55/lib/Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm The current version will parse Excel 95-2003 files. But is there a port to Ruby? My other thought is to build some Ruby to Perl glue code to enable use of the Perl library itself from Ruby.     I work for a community group that holds an annual fund raiser for charity over a weekend. I am an excel user and am wanting to set it up so that I can assign a barcode on a card to a specific person. My hope is to be able to scan the barcode have it take me to a specific cell in the spread sheet so I can update the Commitment amount. and provide as much anonymity for our donors as possible. Can this even be done?

  • How can I make Excel documents open in different windows?

    Office 2007, Windows Server 2008 x64. How can I make Excel so that when I double-click a document, it opens in a new Excel instance, so that I can easily view them side-by-side as separate windows and not using the View-Arrange All functionality? Now I have to go to the task bar, click on one document to see it and then click on the other document in the task bar to switch to that one. As the alternative, I close one document, open a new Excel window, then drag the document in there. Thank you.

  • When opening any file in excel, a 1 is added to ther name, and the default is to save a new copy…

    Ok... I've searched a lot for this, but it's not an easy question to search for! When I open any files (xls, or xlsx) in Excel 2007, excel acts like it's a read only file, essentially creating a new file with the name plus a 1 on the end... Eg. I open NewDoc.xlsx Excel opens it as NewDoc1.xlsx and the save button brings up the save as dialogue in my default folder. Does anyone know how to set it back to allowing me to open, edit and save a document without having to browse to the original document and save over it!? My immediate thought was access permissions, but the file is in a network folder with my user given Full Control, I also tried creating a new file in that folder, and also on my local machine just in case - same result. To make it even stranger, if I browse to the original file using the save as dialogue, it will let me save over the original, without any further prompts.

  • Create multiple columns on one sheet from 1 column on another with logic

    I am new to VBA and I am struggling trying to make this work. I am in need of a macro that will process each cell\column on Sheet1 and put the results on Sheet2. I'm sure this is pretty easy for those who are more advanced with VB code. It contains many columns.. Anytime we encounter a — or an empty cell, we populate the cell with -999 (see the example on Sheet2) on the first column, which contains "0-2". Then we create 2 new columns and populate them with 0 on the first column and 2 on second column (see example on Sheet2). If a value is found on only one side, we then populate both sides with the same number.     We are in the process of switching over to ACCESS 2007. We have numerous data tables in ACCESS 2003 files. In one case, the user has 2007 on his PC and opend the front end in 2007. No problems. When the the user is done, he clicks a button that executes a macro full of update queries. The macro reaches the first query and halts. We get a messge saying we do not have permisons to write to this linked table (2003 format). There were no security files involved. We re-linked from 2007, same problem. LAN permssions were ok. I wound up having to import the tables to front end in order for the user to be able to do his job.

  • Designing a Chart that expands as more data is entered in Excel

    I have a worksheet that pulls data from another, it is designed to only show late jobs, and it works perfectly. I have it where it is broken down into quarters, and it gathers all this data and does everything I want. Except this one last bit... I want to have it where it shows charts, if there is data in said area the chart would self populate, otherwise it would be blank. If more data is entered into the range expand the chart accordingly. Attached is a simplified workbook with what it does, and what I'd like to see it do. I don't even know if this is possible...   • Dynamically disable custom (VBA) Excel context menu buttons?

    The Scenario Hi guys, I am about to add a few custom controls to the cell context menu in my Excel workbook using the instructions found on this MSDN page. The only problem I am having is that I need the items to only be enabled for a specific column/range of cells. I've looked around, and I've been unable to find any steps for this--there are some for VSTO development (written in C#), but that is not what I need. I plan to write this using the VBA IDE built into Office, and perhaps a bit of XML using the Custom UI Editor. The Question So basically, I'm looking for a way to run a function at the time the context menu is called (i.e., upon right-click) that validates the selection to make sure it is in the appropriate column. If it isn't, I would like my custom buttons to be greyed out. P.S. Please don't think I am asking you to write my code. Creating these buttons should be very simple, as I have created many before (albeit they were all Ribbon items), and I hope it is okay to ask for some quick assistance on this very specific issue.   • Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard: Locks MS Office files, but not Adobe .AI and .PSD files?

    We have some shares setup on a Windows 2003 R2 server, and the MS Office files people save behave properly: The first person to open the file gets read/write, and the second person to open the file while the first person still has the file open, gets a read-only version. This is not true for the graphics files, like Adobe Illustrator .AI files, and Photoshop .PSD files. Anyone who goes to open these files has full read/write, even if someone else is already working on the file! This has lead to numerous file corruption issues, as well as other lost work, since it always saves the last changes to the file. How do we get Windows to properly lock these files so when someone is working on a file, and someone else wants to open one, they get read-only access? Many thanks, Bruce

  • Excel 2003 Freezes When Worksheet with PivotTable Selected

    All of the sudden, my Excel 2003 began an odd behavior today. Whenever I click on a worksheet tab that has a PivotTable on it, I become unable to click on any other tabs or on the menu with the options to minimize, maximize, and size at the top left of the worksheet window. I am left unable to click on the other tabs until I double-click inside a cell in the PivotTable worksheet and get a blinking curor as if to type. Then, I can navigate to other tabs normally. I can't think of any major changes I have made to my computer in the last day that would have caused this. I did instiall PC Tools antivirus over a week ago, and since that time have noticed my computer behaving in odd ways, but excel has been just fine until now. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might cause this? Thanks so much.

And problem is this: when i try to boot from live cd, after boot disk with Windows not detected. I tried to use Windows Admin Hack - Linux Boot; Hirens.BootCD.10.4; ophcrack-xp-livecd-2.3.1.iso None of these programs did not see the hard drive! Any ideas? Thank! ADD: I want to reset LOCAL admin password, not domain. And this computer are not domain controller.

    It's unclear to me exactly how secure Remote Desktop access from Mac OS X to a Windows Server 2003 machine is. Is the communication encrypted by default? What level of encryption? Are there best practices for making this as secure as possible? I found http://www.mobydisk.com/techres/securing_remote_desktop.html but it's unclear how much of that is still relevant for current versions of RDP and Windows Server. I know I can tunnel RDP over ssh, but is that overkill or redundant?

  • Migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 - remove old 03 computer account?

    Migrated from Exchange 2003 to 2007 back in February of this year. I've still got the old exchange computer account in AD. Can I simply delete the computer account or will bad things start happening? I've looked in the Exchange 07 console and don't see the old server listed at all. HOWEVER: we do still have an old CNAME for this old Exchange server pointing to the new one for a few old clients that still have their mail server set to the old name...if that matters at all. I ran "get-exchangeserver" on the new server and the old one isn't listed at all.

    have a server 2003 domain controller i have installed active directory integrated dns under the forward lookup zone for domain_name.local i see an APIPA ip address that is set for (same as parent folder) with ip number 169.x.x.x looks like (same as parent folder) Host A 169.x.x.x (apipa subnet range) problem is, from other forums that i have read, that this is due to dual nics and one on that is not getting a dynamic or static ip address BUT... I only have one nic in this server? where could this be coming from and could it mess up other settings or not allowing the DC to be contacted? i am just wondering what symptoms could arise due to the record being there. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
