• Database schema publishing with SQL Server 2005/2008

  Hi everybody, I've a question for you. We have built a software that has a single database for each customer. These databases are managed by SQL Server 2008. Now the problem is that when we build our software we, sometimes, need to change something on the schema (like adding table, modifying existing ones etc) and migrate these updates on all the customers' databases. Now this task is accomplished by hand: we generate update scripts and then, using T-SQL, we update each database. This is ok for a small set of customer, but we are now becoming bigger and bigger and we really don't know how to face it. We found Wizardby and it seems interesting, but quite difficult for us to learn in this exact moment. Do you have any other trick? Thanks a lot, Marco

  Hi everyone, I just want to use Collections.sort or Arrays.sort to sort a list of points (class Point) by x first and then by y. I have a class Ponto that implements Comparable like this: public int compareTo(Ponto obj) { Ponto tmp = obj; if (this.x < tmp.x) { return -1; } else if (this.x > tmp.x) { return 1; } return 0; } but now I want to sort by y too after x. How can I do that by modifying the above code? Or is that a better and "clean" way to do this? I also use to pass this code to C++, in which I've created a structure called Point with a equivalent comparable method.

  I have created a new plugin named 'adv'. And in this plugin iam listing the users.Which using the view from other elgg plugin 'profile ie the page profile/views/default/profile/listing.php. Now i need to set a link in the existing view of each user.So i have to edit the profile plugin , mainly the page profile/views/default/profile/listing.php But how can i do this, without modifying elggs default plugin 'profile'. I have tried a method that i have copied the folder 'profile' from profile/views/default/profile and put it in adv/views/default/.But it donot working.] Is any solution for adding new link to the user view with editing other plugin, only editing our own plugin example 'adv'.

• Uploading a csv file to sql server - Identity problem.

  Given a column structure in a CSV file of: First_Name, Last_Name, Date_Of_Birth And a SQL Server table with a structure of ID(PK) | First_Name | Last_Name | Date_Of_Birth (Field ID is an Identity with an auto-increment of 1) How do i arrange it so that SQL Server does not attempt to insert the First_Name column from the csv file into the ID field? For info the csv is loaded into a DataTable and then copied to SQL Server using SqlBulkCopy Should i be modifying the csv file before the import add the ID column (The destination table is truncated prior to import, so no need to worry about duplicate key values.) Or perhaps adding an id column to the Datatable? Or Is there a setting in Sql Server that i may have missed?

• c# RichTextBox Tab size

  Hello, I'm using System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox and by default the tab size is 8 spaces. The RichTextBox itself is not that big and 8 spaces leads to a lot of scrolling. Is there any way to make it 4 spaces. If it matters, the control is initially blank and the user starts entering stuff and the tabs have to shorter (4 spaces) as the user enters text with tabs. I tried http://stackoverflow.com/questions/154204/modifying-default-tab-size-in-richtextbox and a few variations of it but no luck.

• Qt compilation and stylesheet

  Each time I compile my Qt project after modifying my qss stylesheet file, the modifications aren't taken into account, unless I rebuild everything. Any idea on a workaround for this, so that I don't have to wait 5 minutes each time I change my qss ? Notes: I use Qt 4.8, and my stylsheet is declared in a resource file (qrc). EDIT: As suggested by Luca Carlon, when a qss is reference in the project through a .qrc file, the changes in the qss don't affect the qrc, and the compiler ignores it. To avoid that, I added a Custom Build Step to my project: before the qmake step! calls a .bat file without any argument the .bat contains the real command copy /b files.qrc +,,

• How to seralize only some properties in .Net?

  This is for a web project so i have several classes that inherit from Web.UI. I only want to serialize very particular properties (basically, only local properties) I'm aware of the XMLIgnore property that can be placed on a property to ignore items, but this won't work in my context since that would require modifying a bunch of stuff that i really don't want to modify (and probably can't). So how do i tell the xml serializer to ignore everything except for X and Y or tell it to seralize just X and Y? i could just create my own xml in a string builder or something and if that's the only way, so be it. however i'm looking for a method that will employ the built in XML stuff. • What are some good ways to do intermachine locking?

  Our server cluster consists of 20 machines, each with 10 pids of 5 threads. We'd like some way to prevent any two threads, in any pid, on any machine, from modifying the same object at the same time. Our code's written in Python and runs on Linux, if that helps narrow things down. Also, it's a pretty rare case that two such threads want to do this, so we'd prefer something that optimizes the "only one thread needs this object" case to be really fast, even if it means that the "one thread has locked this object and another one needs it" case isn't great. What are some of the best practices?

  All, Due to a bug in a library I'm using, I need to override the dispose() method on all objects extending a certain class and make it a NO-OP. I know that if I'm making new instances of the classes directly, this is easy to do: layerManager = new LayerManagerLayer(wwd) { @Override public void dispose() {} }; The problem is that a lot of the object instances I get are not directly constructed by my client code, but instead are created via static library method calls. // Here I want to override the dispose method, but I cannot. Layer l = ShapefileLoader.makeShapefileLayer(this.getClass().getResource("polylines10.shp")); Is there a way I can inject my dispose method into that statically created object without modifying the original sourcecode?

• Magento - Programmatically added products don't show up

  I am trying to import products using a custom made import profile. Here I set some values on the product and then save it, like this: $product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product'); $data = array(); // Inbetween I fill $data with some values $product->addData($data); $product->save(); However, the products do show up in the admin, but do not show up on the frontend (I did add them to categories). The odd thing is, they do appear on the frontend once I open them in the admin and save them again (without modifying anything). Am I forgetting something, or some value that is somehow set by that action? I tried to rebuild all indices in the backend and to clear the cache, but this does not work, contrary to Magento API: Rebuild Indexes after adding new products.

  With all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

  Hi guys, I have started to work on a site without url rewriting. Now, the request is to use friendly urls so i started to use Intelligencia.UrlRewriter. So no longer return "~/Site/Categorii.aspx?category=m1" but "~/Site/Categorii/m1" without beeing needed to modify its structure? I mean, i have about 30 methods like the one from the above; it would be extremely helpfull if i can be guided to use a regex at the output of the methods iso modifying the url construction... I have read about the Data Access Object approach, but none of the resources I have found so far indicate a clear implementation of it. So assume you have a database with a table called accounts that has columns id, name, password and email. How would you properly access it within Java?   I have an SWT Tree in my application that contains an infinite data structure. Upon expanding an item, I generate its children. On Windows though, users can press "*", triggering an "expand all descendants" action, and my application hangs. There are two acceptable behaviors for me when the user presses "*": Expand all children of the selected element, but only to the next level Do nothing In either case, I will still need to be able to expand items as deep as required (by clicking on the [+] icon, or by pressing "+"), so limiting the tree depth is not a solution. Is there another way that I can achieve either of the above without modifying SWT classes?

• Manage groups of build configurations in Hudson

  I'm using Hudson to build my application. I have several branches that come and go. Whenever there's a new branch, I have to set up the following builds for it: a continuous build that runs after every change in SVN a nightly build a nightly site generation (I'm using Maven under the hood) and a weekly integration build for some branches currently this means I need to copy four template configurations and set them up with the branch URL. I don't like this for two reasons: It's redundant, so modifying something is error-prone and takes a lot of time. I need four full checkouts of the product per branch on every build slave, plus four separate private Maven repository, not to mention the built artifacts. This is a lot of space wasted. What I'd like instead is to have one workspace and one configuration for allthese builds. Is this possible with Hudson?

• innerHTML of dynamically added element not updating in Chrome

  I'm modifying a dynamically created input element by setting the innerHTML, when I view the element in the DOM Inspector I can see that the values I passed are in the input. However, I can't see it on the page? Is there a refresh() function that I should be calling after setting the value? I have tried innerText, and value and gotten the same results.   I'd like to run tests that simulate users modifying certain data at the same time for a grails application. Are there any plug-ins / tools / mechanisms I can use to do this efficiently? They don't have to be grails specific. It should be possible to fire multiple actions in parallel. I'd prefer to run the tests on functional level (so far I'm using Selenium for other tests) to see the results from the user perspective. Of course this can be done in addition to integration testing if you'd recommend to run concurrent modification tests on integration level as well.

Update Looking to understand some of the finer and important differences because they're both effectively key/value stores. For example, I know modifying appsettings in web.config will recycle the web application. I've read about extending the Windows Shell but I can't seem to find anything related to modifying the Taskbar and the Desktop. I'm looking for something along the lines of Rainmeter. • Using virtual fields in Doctrine_Query

  Is there a way to insert logic based on virtual fields into a Doctrine_Query? I have defined a virtual field in my model, "getStatus()" which I would ultimately like to utilize in a Where clause in my Doctrine_Query. ... ->AndWhere('x.status = ?',$status); "status", however, is not a column in the table it is instead computed by business logic in the model. Filtering the Collection after executing the query works in some situations, but not when a Doctrine_Pager is thrown in the mix, as it computes it's offsets and such before you have access to the Collection. Am I best off ditching Doctrine_Pager and rebuilding that functionality after modifying the Doctrine_Collection?

  I have a project containing files generated from a .g file (antlr 2.7.x). The guy who wrote the whole thing has left me with it. Until now, I did not need to modify the grammar and all was fine. But now, I cannot continue without modifying the grammar (i.e. the .g-file). I have the source code of the used antlr and the visual studio 2005 project. Unfortunately, the lexer and parser files are not generated prior to the build (in fact they are never generated) and that leads to my question: how do I generate these files whenever the grammar file is modified? Or in other words, how do I integrate antlr into visual studio?

• Visual Studio 2008 patching without suppressing database

  Hi, I made a program using visual c# which connects to a local .mdf sql database. I've published it using the Publish Wizard, used the files on another computer to install it and it worked fine. However, some bugs were discovered. I've corrected the problems, published it again and tried to patch the program on the 2nd computer. After much trials and errors, fastest way to patch is to overwrite the .application file. Suprisingly, the database was also overwritten. Question is: How do I make new version of the program and install it on the other computer without modifying the database? On developping computer, database appears as a .mdf file which can be copied, but on 2nd computer this file does not exists. Supplementary info: -Developping computer: Vista, using Visual Studio 2008 with Server 2005 -2nd computer: XP using microsoft express server 2005
