  • IIS SmtpSVC - Adding remote domains on the fly

    - by Andrej Pintar
Since I am using SMTPSVC from IIS to send all mail out I have noticed some domains that reject mail regarding LFs and similar SMTP day to day basis problems. So I mostly re route these domains by using smarthosts. Now I aslo read that on IIS7 or most of them when you add a remote domain to domains you must restart SMTPSVC to take effect. I also enabled METABASE editing. So I also hoped that this will help me add remote domains on the fly. But it's not working. Should I use another SMTP: -hmailserver or similar to route DOMAINS by smarthost. We used a smarthost configuration before but ISP smarthost gets a lot on RBL Blacklist so mail comes back. Since DNS MX direct sending is more work because of troublesome domains now I got more work to monitor SMTP logs. Thank you in advance.

  • DNS management for WHMCS / cPanel?

    - by RD.
I currently have WHMCS (www.whmcs.com) that I use for the billing system for my hosting company. It integrates with cPanel and WHM. I want to be able to allow clients to: Change MX Records Change DNS info (CNAME, A Record etc) 1 can be done in cPanel. But 2 not. So my questions are: 1. Is there a program/application available that will give clients access to this? I.e. So they can change their DNS info? 2. How do other companies do it?

  • Load balancing SMTP in a way that doesn't hide the source IP address

    - by makerofthings7
I need to load balance SMTP to handle some applications that don't know how to use MX records. I set up a Netscaler using the TCP option on port 25 and now Exchange sees the source IP as that of the DMZ of the Netscaler for every connection, not the client. Obviously this prevents RBLs, Whitelists, and all other IP-based reputation to fail. It also make it impossible to whitelist a trusted IP for anonymous relay. Question How should I configure the NetScaler (or Windows Load Balancing) so that I can allow load balancing yet still maintain visibility of the source IP?

  • postfix 5.7.1 Relay access denied when sending mail with cron

    - by zensys
Reluctant to ask because there is so much here about 'postfix relay access denied' but I cannot find my case: I use php (Zend Framework) to send emails outside my network using the Google mail server because I could not send mail outside my server (user: web). However when I sent out an email via cron (user: root, I believe), still using ZF, using the same mail config/credentials, I get the message: '5.7.1 Relay access denied' I guess I need to know one of two things: 1. How can I use the google smtp server from cron 2. What do I need to change in my config to send mail using my own server instead of google Though the answer to 2. is the more structural solution I assume, I am quite happy with an answer to 1. as well because I think Google is better at server maintaince (security/spam) than I am. Below my ZF application.ini mail section, main.cf and master.cf: application.ini: resources.mail.transport.type = smtp resources.mail.transport.auth = login resources.mail.transport.host = "smtp.gmail.com" resources.mail.transport.ssl = tls resources.mail.transport.port = 587 resources.mail.transport.username = [email protected] resources.mail.transport.password = xxxxxxx resources.mail.defaultFrom.email = [email protected] resources.mail.defaultFrom.name = "my company" main.cf: # Debian specific: Specifying a file name will cause the first # line of that file to be used as the name. • Does Outlook continue to auto-discover account settings for already configured accounts? Can it be prevented?

    - by Oliver Salzburg
fail2ban just locked me out of our website because something from my desktop was hammering port 443 on the server (which is not in use). I saw my IP also requesting "GET /autodiscover/autodiscover.xml HTTP/1.1", so I assume that's what's going on on port 443 as well. But I only have 1 email account configured in Outlook and it's working just fine. The account is for the address [email protected] and said server will answer for example.com, but that server is not our MX and it is also not configured as an Exchange server in my mail account. So, why is Outlook still trying to retrieve those auto-configuration settings?

  • Relay Access Denied (State 13) Postfix + Dovecot + Mysql

    - by Pierre Jeptha
So we have been scratching our heads for quite some time over this relay issue that has presented itself since we re-built our mail-server after a failed Webmin update. We are running Debian Karmic with postfix 2.6.5 and Dovecot 1.1.11, sourcing from a Mysql database and authenticating with SASL2 and PAM. Here are the symptoms of our problem: 1) When users are on our local network they can send and receive 100% perfectly fine. 2) When users are off our local network and try to send to domains not of this mail server (ie. gmail) they get the "Relay Access Denied" error. However users can send to domains of this mail server when off the local network fine. 3) We host several virtual domains on this mailserver, the primary domain being airnet.ca. The rest of our virtual domains (ex. jeptha.ca) cannot receive email from domains not hosted by this mailserver (ie. gmail and such cannot send to them). • DNS PTR record when domain on shared IP address

    - by Marco Demaio
Hello, I own a typical shared IP hosting plan and domain. I can modify the DNS of the domain from the control panel. The mailserver shares the same IP address, so my typical DNS config is: www.mydomain.com A -> IP mydomain.com A -> IP ftp.mydomain.com A -> IP mail.mydomain.com A -> IP mydomain.com MX(10) -> IP I read some Q&A on this site where they suggest to add PTR record mainly for mailserver. I would like to add PTR record to my domain, I have got two questions: 1) can PTR record be added even if the hosting/mailserver are on a shared IP address? Or do I need a dedicated IP. 2) How do I setup PTR record, I mean does it look like A record: mydomain.com (PTR) -> myip

  • Mother Board Question

    - by user33931
1st, I am software guy. I do not do hardware. So I know to you hardware geeks, this is a dumb question. I just inherited a box with a ASUS P5GZ-MX mother board. I have attempted to install two nVidia PCI video cards. I put a 750w power supply in the system to be sure I have enough power. With no extra video cards, the 3.3 v shows normal. When I put one card in, the 3.3 goes to 3.5-3.6 and flashes red (over voltage) about 30% of the time. When I put the 2nd card in, it goes to 3.73 v and stays red all the time. Any Ideas why the voltage goes up when I add cards instead of going down? More Importantly, is this dangerous to the system?

  • Ubuntu VPS - email and webserver

    - by xZero
I have a VPS based on Ubuntu, it has installed whole LAMP, everything needed for a web server and it works perfectly, but I'm still not able to configure it as a mail server.... I have configured MX record for my domain mail.mydomain.com and this part is OK, I also installed Postfix, Dovecot and Roundcube, configured it using this tutorial: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Mail_Server_setup And after hours of configuring it doesn't work. I have experience with Linux and web hosting, but I successfully configured mail server once in past on Debian 6, and that with help from there. When I try to send email to me my gmail says: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain mydomain.com by dc147738a1117e4c12273.mydomain.com. [MY_SERVER_IP]. The error that the other server returned was: 554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied Also I have Webmin control panel which works perfectly, how to configure postfix and dovecot from there? Thanks in advance.

  • You may be attempting to write into another users folder which is not supported...

    - by Triynko
Why do I get this message when trying to compile a file in Flash MX 2004? "If you are logged in with a limited user account, then you may be attempting to write into another users folder which is not supported." The folder and files are owned by the Administrators group; however, the user trying to modify the files is a member of a group which is inheriting permissions to have full control over the files, except take ownership and change permissions. Why would a user, whose effective permissions include virtually everything, be unable to write to a file... and end up getting an error message like the one described?

  • How do internal smtp servers send mail to internal mail servers on the network?

    - by dmr83457
We have upgraded our internal corporate email server and the IP address has changed internal to our network. A second email server is used for sending bulk jobs for a mailing list service that we offer. Since the switch of the internal corporate server IP we have been seeing problems when the bulk email server is trying to send email to our own domain. The log shows that it is still trying to hit the old corporate server instead of the new one. I have looked through all settings for the bulk email software and see nothing set there to send to internal mail servers, and I do not recall doing anything special to get this working when setup a couple years ago. Is there a setting in Win2003 or on the network that enables the mapping of MX record external IPs to internal IPs so mail gets routed correctly?

  • Can't connect to smtp (postfix, dovecot) after making a change and trying to change it back

    - by UberBrainChild
I am using postfix and dovecot along with zpanel and I tried enabling SSL and then turned it off as I did not have SSL configured yet and I realized it was a bit stupid at the time. I am using CentOS 6.4. I get the following error in the mail log. (I changed my host name to "myhostname" and my domain to "mydomain.com") Oct 20 01:49:06 myhostname postfix/smtpd[4714]: connect from mydomain.com[127.0.0.1] Oct 20 01:49:16 myhostname postfix/smtpd[4714]: fatal: no SASL authentication mechanisms Oct 20 01:49:17 myhostname postfix/master[4708]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/smtpd pid 4714 exit status 1 Oct 20 01:49:17 amyhostname postfix/master[4708]: warning: /usr/libexec/postfix/smtpd: bad command startup -- throttling Reading on forums and similar questions I figured it was just a service that was not running or installed. However I can see that saslauthd is currently up and running on my system and restarting it does not help. Here is my postfix master.cf # # Postfix master process configuration file. • DNS Provider/Domain Registrar

    - by Arcath
I have a whole bunch of domains with my current web host and when i got the package i got it with a few gig of web space and a bunch of mysql databases but times have changed and now and i don't use the hosting im paying for, and i just my host as a DNS server to forward everything else where. The process of removing the host is going to require me to transfer all the domains to another package etc... which is going to cause disruption so my question is: Who is the best provider for DNS only? I don't want any space or mail just someone to hold the domains and let me set any DNS options I want (A/MX/CNAME records for everything, even possibly the ability to point my domains at my own DNS server).

  • Can a faulty DNS record prevent networking?

    - by Bob
My server's network interfaces are not available anymore since yesterday evening. I didn't change anything, but I added a new DNS-record shortly before. Unfortunately, the web interface I used to add this DNS record escaped some characters, so I've got a faulty DNS record: example.com 86400 IN TXT "\"v=spf1 mx a -all\"" However, this is the only unusual thing I could notice about this. Is it possible that the \-characters in my DNS record are confusing for some routers? Or could it be the system itself which is confused by this (it's a Debian Lenny system). Unfortunately, I can't quick-test it because of the long TTL of the record.

  • Original sender is not correctly identified when spam is forwarded

    - by Stephan Burlot
I have a forwarding rule with Postfix that forwards all messages to my main email address. When a spam message is sent to one of my emails, it is forwarded but the sender is shown as being the forwarding domain, not the spammer's domain. Real example: mywebsite.com is hosted on Linode. [email protected] sends an email to [email protected] the mail is forwarded to [email protected] my email hosting (anotherwebsite.com) sees it's spam and sends a message to [email protected] and Linode reports a TOS violation. I have modified my postfix settings so I now use RBL, but if a message goes through, it may happen again. How can I prevent this to happen again? Is there some settings to change on Postfix so the original sender is correctly identified? Thanks Stephan EDIT: The steps I did to prevent this to happen again are: Add RBL checking to Postfix Add postgrey to Postfix And finally fix the MX record which was incorrect. I checked with a test email on Spamcop.net and the original sender is correctly identified.

I have old-domain.co.il with several emails and a new-domain.co.il with the same email addresses. I don't want to connect my domain to a server via mx to make that transfer via email server. Is it possible to have a SPF record that get an email like [email protected] and transfer it to [email protected]? The new domain is on google apps and the old domain can be connected to the same apps, but how to do it, so emails will arrive only to the new one?

  • How do I send email with sendmail to external hosts?

    - by Jake
If I wanted to send an email to a user on the same linux machine, I can run: echo -e "Subject: Foo\n\nBar\n" | sendmail -v jacob But if I run: echo -e "Subject: Foo\n\nBar\n" | sendmail -v [email protected] It will give me the error: 050 >>> MAIL From:<jacob@mu> SIZE=321 050 550 5.1.8 Cannot resolve your domain {mx-us011} If my machine has access to the internet but is behind a router and has no domain associated with it, can I use sendmail to send mail to this address? Do I need to connect through an SMTP server? Can I do that with sendmail? If I use sendmail's -f option and put my gmail account there it will work. Can (or should I) I use my IP address? echo -e "Subject: Foo\n\nBar\n" | sendmail -v -f [email protected] [email protected] I'm a bit lost on how all this comes together in sending mail from the command line.

  • Recommendations for Spam Filter

    - by dotdev
We are currently using MxGuardDog for spam filtering. It works by pointing our MX records at their mail servers. The service seems pretty good, it keeps out the obvious spam, but I would still say it let's through mail that to me is spam, but I accept that on the surface those emails may not flag any of the universally recognised indicators for spam. If an email comes through that I believe is spam, I can login to the Web Console and blacklist the email/domain. However, 99% of the time I don't because it's inconvenient - or, should i say, it's far less convenient than a button in Outlook that allows me to report the email/domain as spam. So, what we're looking for is a similar service i.e. cloud spam filtering that has an Outlook plugin so that Administrators/Users can report spam. We are only a small company, 10 users, so cost is of course an issue for us. Many thanks dotdev

  • How to configure my hosting provider for email when DNS redirection already in place?

    - by Johann
First of all I apologize for my poor understanding of network and I hope I used the correct terminology for everything: I have bought a domain name with 1&1 to create an online shop, using kingeshop. I followed the steps explains here to point the domain name to kingeshop IP address and everything is working fine. Now I would also like to use my domain name to create an email account. But 1&1 seems to say they're not responsible for this now the DNS is transfered to kingeshop's. What I'm wondering is who is really "in charge" of my domain name now? 1&1 also lets me configure the MX-record but I don't have a clue what I can do with this. Could I just use an existing gmail address somehow? Thanks a lot for any help or clarity you can bring me on that matter!
