  • Why is there an extra HDD under /dev being added in my Linux Kernel?

    - by user1279156
    I have created a Linux kernel and for some reason an extra drive is always added at bootup. My hard drive is listed as /dev/sdb. /dev/sda is created too, and it is 8 MB in size. I can't find anything in the kernel config that is creating this, but if I use a different kernel it is not there. Kernel logs show it as an attached SCSI device, looks just like my hard drive but only 8 MB, and has no partition table. It also doesn't appear to be a physical device. I've tried the kernel on many different models of PCs and it is always there. Does anyone know how to remove it? /dev/disk/by-id gives me: scsi-1AMCC_U21413034D98EB000584 scsi-1AMCC_U21413034D98EB000584-part1 scsi-353333330000007d0 scsi-SATA_ST3250312AS_5VY7SH42 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD800JD-60L_WD-WMAM9Y085675 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD800JD-60L_WD-WMAM9Y085675-part1 scsi-SATA_WDC_WD800JD-60L_WD-WMAM9Y085675-part2 hdparm -i /dev/sda gives me an "invalid argument". dd if=/dev/sda of=sda.img the resulting file does not have any content sdparm results: /dev/sda: Linux scsi_debug 0004 Device identification VPD page: Addressed logical unit: designator type: T10 vendor identification, code set: ASCII vendor id: Linux vendor specific: scsi_debug 2000 designator type: NAA, code set: Binary 0x53333330000007d0 Target port: designator type: Relative target port, code set: Binary transport: Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Relative target port: 0x1 designator type: NAA, code set: Binary transport: Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 0x52222220000007ce designator type: Target port group, code set: Binary transport: Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Target port group: 0x100 Target device that contains addressed lu: designator type: NAA, code set: Binary transport: Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 0x52222220000007cd designator type: SCSI name string, code set: UTF-8 transport: Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) SCSI name string: naa.52222220000007CD

  • Linux router: ping doesn't route back

    - by El Barto
    I have a Debian box which I'm trying to set up as a router and an Ubuntu box which I'm using as a client. My problem is that when the Ubuntu client tries to ping a server on the Internet, all the packets are lost (though, as you can see below, they seem to go to the server and back without problem). I'm doing this in the Ubuntu Box: # ping -I eth1 my.remote-server.com PING my.remote-server.com (X.X.X.X) from 10.1.1.12 eth1: 56(84) bytes of data. ^C --- my.remote-server.com ping statistics --- 13 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 12094ms (I changed the name and IP of the remote server for privacy). From the Debian Router I see this: # tcpdump -i eth1 -qtln icmp tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth1, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 7, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 8, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 8, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 9, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 9, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 10, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 10, length 64 IP 10.1.1.12 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 305, seq 11, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 10.1.1.12: ICMP echo reply, id 305, seq 11, length 64 ^C 9 packets captured 9 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel # tcpdump -i eth2 -qtln icmp tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth2, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 213, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 213, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 214, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 214, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 215, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 215, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 216, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 216, length 64 IP 192.168.1.10 > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 217, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > 192.168.1.10: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 217, length 64 ^C 10 packets captured 10 packets received by filter 0 packets dropped by kernel And at the remote server I see this: # tcpdump -i eth0 -qtln icmp tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 96 bytes IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 1, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 1, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 2, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 2, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 3, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 3, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 4, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 4, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 5, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 5, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 6, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 6, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 7, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 7, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 8, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 8, length 64 IP Y.Y.Y.Y > X.X.X.X: ICMP echo request, id 360, seq 9, length 64 IP X.X.X.X > Y.Y.Y.Y: ICMP echo reply, id 360, seq 9, length 64 18 packets captured 228 packets received by filter 92 packets dropped by kernel Here "X.X.X.X" is my remote server's IP and "Y.Y.Y.Y" is my local network's public IP. So, what I understand is that the ping packets are coming out of the Ubuntu box (10.1.1.12), to the router (10.1.1.1), from there to the next router (192.168.1.1) and reaching the remote server (X.X.X.X). Then they come back all the way to the Debian router, but they never reach the Ubuntu box back. What am I missing? Here's the Debian router setup: # ifconfig eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 94:0c:6d:82:0d:98 inet addr:10.1.1.1 Bcast:10.1.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::960c:6dff:fe82:d98/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:105761 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:48944 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:40298768 (38.4 MiB) TX bytes:44831595 (42.7 MiB) Interrupt:19 Base address:0x6000 eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 6c:f0:49:a4:47:38 inet addr:192.168.1.10 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::6ef0:49ff:fea4:4738/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:38335992 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:37097705 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:1 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:4260680226 (3.9 GiB) TX bytes:3759806551 (3.5 GiB) Interrupt:27 eth3 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 94:0c:6d:82:c8:72 UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B) Interrupt:20 Base address:0x2000 lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:3408 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:3408 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:358445 (350.0 KiB) TX bytes:358445 (350.0 KiB) tun0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00 inet addr:10.8.0.1 P-t-P:10.8.0.2 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:2767779 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:1569477 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:100 RX bytes:3609469393 (3.3 GiB) TX bytes:96113978 (91.6 MiB) #   • Slide Creation Checklist

    - by Daniel Moth
    PowerPoint is a great tool for conference (large audience) presentations, which is the context for the advice below. The #1 thing to keep in mind when you create slides (at least for conference sessions), is that they are there to help you remember what you were going to say (the flow and key messages) and for the audience to get a visual reminder of the key points. Slides are not there for the audience to read what you are going to say anyway. If they were, what is the point of you being there? Slides are not holders for complete sentences (unless you are quoting) – use Microsoft Word for that purpose either as a physical handout or as a URL link that you share with the audience. When you dry run your presentation, if you find yourself reading the bullets on your slide, you have missed the point. You have a message to deliver that can be done regardless of your slides – remember that. The focus of your audience should be on you, not the screen. Based on that premise, I have created a checklist that I go over before I start a new deck and also once I think my slides are ready. Turn AutoFit OFF. I cannot stress this enough. For each slide, explicitly pick a slide layout. In my presentations, I only use one Title Slide, Section Header per demo slide, and for the rest of my slides one of the three: Title and Content, Title Only, Blank. Most people that are newbies to PowerPoint, get whatever default layout the New Slide creates for them and then start deleting and adding placeholders to that. You can do better than that (and you'll be glad you did if you also follow item #11 below). Every slide must have an image. Remove all punctuation (e.g. periods, commas) other than exclamation points and question marks (! ?). Don't use color or other formatting (e.g. italics, bold) for text on the slide. Check your animations. Avoid animations that hide elements that were on the slide (instead use a new slide and transition). Ensure that animations that bring new elements in, bring them into white space instead of over other existing elements. A good test is to print the slide and see that it still makes sense even without the animation. Print the deck in black and white choosing the "6 slides per page" option. Can I still read each slide without losing any information? If the answer is "no", go back and fix the slides so the answer becomes "yes". Don't have more than 3 bullet levels/indents. In other words: you type some text on the slide, hit 'Enter', hit 'Tab', type some more text and repeat at most one final time that sequence. Ideally your outer bullets have only level of sub-bullets (i.e. one level of indentation beneath them). Don't have more than 3-5 outer bullets per slide. Space them evenly horizontally, e.g. with blank lines in between. Don't wrap. For each bullet on all slides check: does the text for that bullet wrap to a second line? If it does, change the wording so it doesn't. Or create a terser bullet and make the original long text a sub-bullet of that one (thus decreasing the font size, but still being consistent) and have no wrapping. Use the same consistent fonts (i.e. Font Face, Font Size etc) throughout the deck for each level of bullet. In other words, don't deviate form the PowerPoint template you chose (or that was chosen for you). Go on each slide and hit 'Reset'. 'Reset' is a button on the 'Home' tab of the ribbon or you can find the 'Reset Slide' menu when you right click on a slide on the left 'Slides' list. If your slides can survive doing that without you "fixing" things after the Reset action, you are golden! For each slide ask yourself: if I had to replace this slide with a single sentence that conveys the key message, what would that sentence be? This exercise leads you to merge slides (where the key message is split) or split a slide into many, if there were too many key messages on the slide in the first place. It can also lead you to redesign a slide so the text on it really is just explanation or evidence for the key message you are trying to convey. Get the length right. Is the length of this deck suitable for the time you have been given to present? If not, cut content! It is far better to deliver less in a relaxed, polished engaging, memorable way than to deliver in great haste more content. As a rule of thumb, multiply 2 minutes by the number of slides you have, add the time you need for each demo and check if that add to more than the time you have allotted. If it does, start cutting content – we've all been there and it has to be done. As always, rules and guidelines are there to be bent and even broken some times. Start with the above and on a slide-by-slide basis decide which rules you want to bend. That is smarter than throwing all the rules out from the start, right? Comments about this post welcome at the original blog.

  • How to stop an IOException error using whilst using a combination of jython, pyro and ant?

    - by Kelso
    So the wonderful low down on this doozie of a problem: short version: We are building a distribution system for this item of software we're using. Basically we take out build artifact, store it on an ftp server which passes it to multiple clients which execute scripts to patch their servers. Long version: 1 distribution server multiple client servers software: jython 2.5.1, ant 1.8.0, pyro 3.10 The distribution server has an FTP server and a PYRO client running on it. Each client server has a PRYO server running on it. When the PYRO client is told to start the patch procedure then it reads a machine list which contains a list of all the client servers. Then connects to each of the PYRO servers one by one and execute the patch procedure. The procedure is: getPatch (gets the latest patch for that server), StopServer (stops the software that may or maynot be accessing what needs to be patched), Apply patch, StartServer. Each of the processes calls an ANT script that passes with some folder names and other config passes around. The fun part happens when you go to apply the patch. See below for error log. I had to remove the folder names because of NDA reasons. This is where it gets interesting. Running each section of the procedure individually. i.e. running getPatch, StopServer, etc. one at a time manually. This bug doesn't happen. Physically goign to the machine and running the processes it doesn't happen. Only when we call all 4 of the processes one after the other. It occurs during the ApplyPatch phase when an ANT replace script is called on multiple files. We think it might have something to do with the JVM keeping hold of the file for a split second or 2. however this is meant to have been patched according to the bug notes on ant. so in short: • Can rpmbuild ingore files in buildroot?

    - by Noah Campbell
    I have a target directory that is checked into svn. I use the target as the --buildroot when I run rpmbuild. This causes rpmbuild to loose it mind because of the .svn directories in each directory. Is there a way to tell rpmbuild to relax? I looked at svn export target target-build, but it only knows about files tracked by rpm. Perhaps not a bad way to do it, but I'm not quite sure that is the best way.

  • umount bind of stale NFS

    - by Paul Eisner
    i've got a problem removing mounts created with mount -o bind from a locally mounted NFS folder. Assume the following mount structure: NFS mounted directory: $ mount -o rw,soft,tcp,intr,timeo=10,retrans=2,retry=1 \ 10.20.0.1:/srv/source /srv/nfs-source Bound directory: $ mount -o bind /srv/nfs-source/sub1 /srv/bind-target/sub1 Which results in this mount map $ mount /dev/sda1 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro) # ... 10.20.0.1:/srv/source on /srv/nfs-source type nfs (rw,soft,tcp,intr,timeo=10,retrans=2,retry=1,addr=10.20.0.100) /srv/nfs-source/sub1 on /srv/bind-target/sub1 type none (rw,bind) If the server (10.20.0.1) goes down (eg ifdown eth0), the handles become stale, which is expected. I can now un-mount the NFS mount with force $ umount -f /srv/nfs-source This takes some seconds, but works without any problems. However, i cannot un-mount the bound directory in /srv/bind-target/sub1. The forced umount results in: $ umount -f /srv/bind-target/sub1 umount2: Stale NFS file handle umount: /srv/bind-target/sub1: Stale NFS file handle umount2: Stale NFS file handle Here is a trace http://pastebin.com/ipvvrVmB I've tried umounting the sub-directories beforehand, find any processes accessing anything within the NFS or bind mounts (there are none). lsof also complains: $ lsof -n lsof: WARNING: can't stat() nfs file system /srv/nfs-source Output information may be incomplete. lsof: WARNING: can't stat() nfs file system /srv/bind-target/sub1 (deleted) Output information may be incomplete. lsof: WARNING: can't stat() nfs file system /srv/bind-target/ Output information may be incomplete. I've tried with recent stable Linux kernels 3.2.17, 3.2.19 and 3.3.8 (cannot use 3.4.x, cause need the grsecurity patch, which is not, yet, supported - grsecurity is not patched in in the tests above!). My nfs-utils are version 1.2.2 (debian stable). Does anybody have an idea how i can either: force the un-mount some other way? (any dirty trick is welcome, data loss or damage neglible at this point) use something else instead of mount -o bind? (cannot use soft links, cause mounted directories will be used in chroot; bindfs via FUSE is far to slow to be an option) Thanks, Paul Update 1 With 2.6.32.59 the umount of the (stale) sub-mounts work just fine. It seems to be a kernel regression bug. The above tests where with NFSv3. Additional tests with NFSv4 showed no change. Update 2 We have tested now multiple 2.6 and 3.x kernels and are now sure, that this was introduced in 3.0.x. We will fille a bug report, hopefully they figure it out.

  • Creating a System::String object from a BSTR in Managed C++ - is this way a good idea???

    - by Eli
    My co-worker is filling a System::String object with double-byte characters from an unmanaged library by the following method: RFC_PARAMETER aux; Object* target; RFC_UNICODE_TYPE_ELEMENT* elm; elm = &(m_coreObject->m_pStructMeta->m_typeElements[index]); aux.name = NULL; aux.nlen = 0; aux.type = elm->type; aux.leng = elm->c2_length; aux.addr = m_coreObject->m_rfcWa + elm->c2_offset; GlobalFunctions::CreateObjectForRFCField(target,aux,elm->decimals); GlobalFunctions::ReadRFCField(target,aux,elm->decimals); Where GlobalFunctions::CreateObjectForRFCField creates a System::String object filled with spaces (for padding) to what the unmanaged library states the max length should be: static void CreateObjectForRFCField(Object*& object, RFC_PARAMETER& par, unsigned dec) { switch (par.type) { case TYPC: object = new String(' ',par.leng / sizeof(_TCHAR)); break; // unimportant afterwards. } } And GlobalFunctions::ReadRFCField() copies the data from the library into the created String object and preserves the space padding: static void ReadRFCField(String* target, RFC_PARAMETER& par) { int lngt; _TCHAR* srce; switch (par.type) { case TYPC: case TYPDATE: case TYPTIME: case TYPNUM: lngt = par.leng / sizeof(_TCHAR); srce = (_TCHAR*)par.addr; break; case RFCTYPE_STRING: lngt = (*(_TCHAR**)par.addr != NULL) ? (int)_tcslen(*(_TCHAR**)par.addr) : 0; srce = *(_TCHAR**)par.addr; break; default: throw new DotNet_Incomp_RFCType2; } if (lngt > target->Length) lngt = target->Length; GCHandle gh = GCHandle::Alloc(target,GCHandleType::Pinned); wchar_t* buff = reinterpret_cast<wchar_t*>(gh.AddrOfPinnedObject().ToPointer()); _wcsnset(buff,' ',target->Length); _snwprintf(buff,lngt,_T2WFSP,srce); gh.Free(); } Now, on occasion, we see access violations getting thrown in the _snwprintf call. My question really is: Is it appropriate to create a string padded to a length (ideally to pre-allocate the internal buffer), and then to modify the String using GCHandle::Alloc and the mess above. And yes, I know that System::String objects are supposed to be immutable - I'm looking for a definitive "This is WRONG and here is why". Thanks, Eli.

  • ruby recursive regex

    So why is this not working? I'm creating a regex that will match a formula (which is then part of a larger standard description). But I'm stuck here, as it doesn't appear to want to match embedded formulas within a formula. stat = /(Stat3|Stat2|Stat1)/ number_sym = /[0-9]*/ formula_sym = /((target's )?#{stat}|#{number_sym}|N#{number_sym})\%?/ math_sym = /(\+|\-|\*|\/|\%)/ formula = /^\((#{formula}|#{formula_sym}) (#{math_sym} (#{formula}|#{formula_sym}))?\)$/ p "(target's Stat2 * N1%)".match(formula).to_s #matches p "((target's Stat2 * N1%) + 3)".match(formula).to_s #no match p "(Stat1 + ((target's Stat2 * N1%) + 3))".match(formula).to_s #no match

  • Linux Fiber Channel Host Setup Basic

    - by Jim
    I've been googling for about 4 hours now with no luck. I am trying to setup a Linux server running Oracle Server 6.3 as a Fiber Channel host. And then connect it to a Dell Compellent Fibre Channel Host contain a 500GB Volume. The Oracle server itself contains two Brocade 815 FC HBAs. I've discovered their WWN(I think) via cat /sys/class/fc_host/host1/port_name 0x100000051efc3d85 cat /sys/class/fc_host/host2/port_name 0x100000051efc3d9f The next part is where I am at a loss. I've used iSCSI before...is FC the same deal where you have an initiator and a target? If so where do I specific that in linux? I'm also new to Fiber Channel as a protocol, so i am unsure what is needed to make a transaction? WWN and port ID? Similar to IP:Port combination in the Ethernet world. I've read alot regarding using systool, multipath, fc_transport commands, however none of these is recognized as a valid command from Oracle Server 6.3 Appreciate the guidance and assistance. • Strange compilation error - GAS3 generated class

    - by subh
    I am pretty new to GraniteDS..So far I have been able to successfully configure it to work with my remote java services as well as generate the equivalent AS3 files from my POJO's. But I am getting this strange error while building one of the classes using GAS3 [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,29] Syntax error: expecting identifier before use. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,52] Syntax error: expecting leftparen before leftbrace. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,52] Syntax error: expecting identifier before leftbrace. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[77,52] Syntax error: expecting rightparen before leftbrace. public function set use(value:String):void { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,29] Syntax error: expecting identifier before use. public function get use():String { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,42] Syntax error: expecting leftparen before leftbrace. public function get use():String { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,42] Syntax error: expecting identifier before leftbrace. public function get use():String { [ERROR] C:\TestGDS_All\TestGDS-flex-remoteobjects\target\generated-sources\com\mycompany\TestGDS\masterdata\model\TankGradesMlBas e.as:[80,42] Syntax error: expecting rightparen before leftbrace. public function get use():String { The java class appears like this @Entity` @Table(name = "mmd_tank_grades_ml") @SuppressWarnings("serial") public class TankGradesMl implements Serializable { .... private String use; @Basic @Column(name = "USE", length = 45) public String getUse() { return use; } public void setUse(String use) { this.use = use; } What am I doing wrong? How to resolve this error? I tried by changing the java source variable like below private String usedFor; ---- @Basic @Column(name = "USE", length = 45) public String getUsedFor() { return usedFor; } /** * @param use * new value for use */ public void setUsedFor(String usedFor) { this.usedFor = usedFor; } and the error is gone...not sure why it was throwing exception for 'use'..too small for variable name :-)

  • What block is not being tested in my test method? (VS08 Test Framework)

    - by daft
    I have the following code: private void SetControlNumbers() { string controlString = ""; int numberLength = PersonNummer.Length; switch (numberLength) { case (10) : controlString = PersonNummer.Substring(6, 4); break; case (11) : controlString = PersonNummer.Substring(7, 4); break; case (12) : controlString = PersonNummer.Substring(8, 4); break; case (13) : controlString = PersonNummer.Substring(9, 4); break; } ControlNumbers = Convert.ToInt32(controlString); } Which is tested using the following test methods: [TestMethod()] public void SetControlNumbers_Length10() { string pNummer = "9999999999"; Personnummer target = new Personnummer(pNummer); Assert.AreEqual(9999, target.ControlNumbers); } [TestMethod()] public void SetControlNumbers_Length11() { string pNummer = "999999-9999"; Personnummer target = new Personnummer(pNummer); Assert.AreEqual(9999, target.ControlNumbers); } [TestMethod()] public void SetControlNumbers_Length12() { string pNummer = "199999999999"; Personnummer target = new Personnummer(pNummer); Assert.AreEqual(9999, target.ControlNumbers); } [TestMethod()] public void SetControlNumbers_Length13() { string pNummer = "1999999-9999"; Personnummer target = new Personnummer(pNummer); Assert.AreEqual(9999, target.ControlNumbers); } For some reason Visual Studio says that I have 1 block that is not tested despite showing all code in the method under test in blue (ie. the code is covered in my unit tests). Is this because of the fact that I don't have a default value defined in the switch? When the SetControlNumbers() method is called, the string on which it operates have already been validated and checked to see that it conforms to the specification and that the various Substring calls in the switch will generate a string containing 4 chars. I'm just curious as to why it says there is 1 untested block. I'm no unit test guru at all, so I'd love some feedback on this. Also, how can I improve on the conversion after the switch to make it safer other than adding a try-catch block and check for FormatExceptions and OverflowExceptions?

  • Grails script dependency error

    Hi, I have a Grails (GAnt) script with the following target: includeTargets << grailsScript("_GrailsInit") includeTargets << grailsScript("_GrailsPlugins" target('default': "Does something awesome!") { depends(updatePluginsList) // Implementation omitted } Since upgrading to Grails 1.3.1, when I run this I get the error groovy.lang.MissingPropertyException: No such property: updatePluginsList for class: So it appears that the target updatePluginsList has disappeared. This target used to be provided by Grails, so I guess it's either been removed or renamed in a recent release? Thanks, Don

  • Binding from View-Model to View-Model of a child User Control in Silverlight? 2 sources - 1 target..

    - by andrej351
    Hi there, So i have a UserControl for one of my Views and have another 'child' UserControl inside that. The outer 'parent' UserControl has a Collection on its View-Model and a Grid control on it to display a list of Items. I want to place another UserControl inside this UserControl to display a form representing the details of one Item. The outer / parent UserControl's View-Model already has a property on it to hold the currently selected Item and i would like to bind this to a DependancyProperty on the inner / child UserControl. I would then like to bind that DependancyProperty to a property on the child UserControl's View-Model. I can then set the DependancyProperty once in XAML with a binding expression and have the child UserControl do all its work in its View-Model like it should. The code i have looks like this.. Parent UserControl: <UserControl x:Class="ItemsListView" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource ServiceLocator}, Path=ItemsListViewModel}"> <!-- Grid Control here... --> <ItemDetailsView Item="{Binding Source={StaticResource ServiceLocator}, Path=ItemsListViewModel.SelectedItem}" /> </UserControl> Child UserControl: <UserControl x:Class="ItemDetailsView" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" DataContext="{Binding Source={StaticResource ServiceLocator}, Path=ItemDetailsViewModel}" ItemDetailsView.Item="{Binding Source={StaticResource ServiceLocator}, Path=ItemDetailsViewModel.Item, Mode=TwoWay}"> <!-- Form controls here... --> </UserControl> The selected Item is bound to the DependancyProperty fine. However from the DependancyProperty to the child View-Model does not. It appears to be a situation where there are two concurrent bindings which need to work but with the same target for two sources. Why won't the second (in the child UserControl) binding work?? Is there a way to acheive the behaviour I'm after?? Cheers.

    I am trying to open port 3306 (for remote mysql connections) on my ubuntu 12.04 server machine but for the life of me can't get the damned thing to work! I suspect since the new rule is being appended at the end it will have no effect as there appears to be a "reject all" sort of rule before it. If this is the case, how to make sure the new rule is added in the right order? Otherwise, what am I missing? Please help.

  • jquery dynamic select doesn't submit values

    - by n00b0101
    I have a form that includes three select boxes. The first one is categories, and selecting a category from it will populate the variables multi-select box with values specific to the selected category. Selecting variables and then clicking "add selected" will populate the target select box will those variables. The problem is, print_r shows that the values in the target select box aren't passed upon submit, and I don't understand why... Below is the code, and help is really appreciated Here's the html markup: <select multiple="" id="categories" name="categories[]"> <option class="category" value="Income">Income</option> <option class="category" value="Gender">Gender</option> <option class="category" value="Age">Age</option> </select> //note that i'm only showing variables for a presumably select category <select multiple="multiple" id="variables" name="variables[]"> <option value="2">Less Than $15,000</option> <option value="3">$15,000 - $19,999</option> <option value="4">$20,000 - $29,999</option> <option value="5">$30,000 - $39,999</option> <option value="6">$40,000 - $49,999</option> <option value="11">$90,000 - $99,999</option> <option value="12">$100,000 - $124,999</option> <option value="13">$125,000 - $149,999</option> <option value="14">Greater than $149,999</option> </select> <select name="target[]" id="target" multiple="multiple" height="60"> </select> And here's the jquery code: $(function(){ var opts = {}, $cats = $("#categories"), $target = $("#target"), $vars = $("#variables"); $vars.find("option").each(function(){ var $opt = $(this), cat = this.className, value = this.value, label = $opt.text(); if(!opts[cat]) { opts[cat] = []; } opts[cat].push({label: label, value: value}); $opt.remove(); }); function update_variables(){ var cat = $cats.val(), new_opts = []; $vars.empty(); $.each(opts[cat], function(){ if( $target.find('[value=' + this.value + ']').length === 0 ){ new_opts.push(option(this.value, this.label)); } }); $vars.html(new_opts.join('')); } function option(value, label){ return "<option value='" + value + "'>" + label + "</option>"; } $("#add").click(function(e){ e.preventDefault(); $vars.find(':selected').appendTo($target).attr('selected',false); update_variables(); }); $("#remove").click(function(e){ e.preventDefault(); $target.find(':selected').remove(); update_variables(); }); $cats.change(function(){ update_variables(); }).change(); })

  • How to implement dynamic binary search for search and insert operations of n element (C or C++)

    - by iecut
    The idea is to use multiple arrays, each of length 2^k, to store n elements, according to binary representation of n.Each array is sorted and different arrays are not ordered in any way. In the above mentioned data structure, SEARCH is carried out by a sequence of binary search on each array. INSERT is carried out by a sequence of merge of arrays of the same length until an empty array is reached. More Detail: Lets suppose we have a vertical array of length 2^k and to each node of that array there attached horizontal array of length 2^k. That is, to the first node of vertical array, a horizontal array of length 2^0=1 is connected,to the second node of vertical array, a horizontal array of length 2^1= 2 is connected and so on. So the insert is first carried out in the first horizontal array, for the second insert the first array becomes empty and second horizontal array is full with 2 elements, for the third insert 1st and 2nd array horiz. array are filled and so on. I implemented the normal binary search for search and insert as follows: int main() { int a[20]= {0}; int n, i, j, temp; int *beg, *end, *mid, target; printf(" enter the total integers you want to enter (make it less then 20):\n"); scanf("%d", &n); if (n = 20) return 0; printf(" enter the integer array elements:\n" ); for(i = 0; i < n; i++) { scanf("%d", &a[i]); } // sort the loaded array, binary search! for(i = 0; i < n-1; i++) { for(j = 0; j < n-i-1; j++) { if (a[j+1] < a[j]) { temp = a[j]; a[j] = a[j+1]; a[j+1] = temp; } } } printf(" the sorted numbers are:"); for(i = 0; i < n; i++) { printf("%d ", a[i]); } // point to beginning and end of the array beg = &a[0]; end = &a[n]; // use n = one element past the loaded array! // mid should point somewhere in the middle of these addresses mid = beg += n/2; printf("\n enter the number to be searched:"); scanf("%d",&target); // binary search, there is an AND in the middle of while()!!! while((beg <= end) && (*mid != target)) { // is the target in lower or upper half? if (target < *mid) { end = mid - 1; // new end n = n/2; mid = beg += n/2; // new middle } else { beg = mid + 1; // new beginning n = n/2; mid = beg += n/2; // new middle } } // find the target? if (*mid == target) { printf("\n %d found!", target); } else { printf("\n %d not found!", target); } getchar(); // trap enter getchar(); // wait return 0; } Could anyone please suggest how to modify this program or a new program to implement dynamic binary search that works as explained above!!

  • jquery remove selected element and append to another

    - by KnockKnockWhosThere
    I'm trying to re-append a "removed option" to the appropriate select option menu. I have three select boxes: "Categories", "Variables", and "Target". "Categories" is a chained select, so when the user selects an option from it, the "Variables" select box is populated with options specific to the selected categories option. When the user chooses an option from the "Variables" select box, it's appended to the "Target" select box. I have a "remove selected" feature so that if a user "removes" a selected element from the "Target" select box, it's removed from "Target" and put back into the pool of "Variables" options. The problem I'm having is that it appends the option to the "Variables" items indiscriminately. That is, if the selected category is "Age" the "Variables" options all have a class of "age". But, if the removed option is an "income" item, it will display in the "Age Variables" option list. Here's the HTML markup: <select multiple="" id="categories" name="categories[]"> <option class="category" value="income">income</option> <option class="category" value="gender">gender</option> <option class="category" value="age">age</option> </select> <select multiple="multiple" id="variables" name="variables[]"> <option class="income" value="10">$90,000 - $99,999</option> <option class="income" value="11">$100,000 - $124,999</option> <option class="income" value="12">$125,000 - $149,999</option> <option class="income" value="13">Greater than $149,999</option> <option class="gender" value="14">Male</option> <option class="gender" value="15">Female</option> <option class="gender" value="16">Ungendered</option> <option class="age" value="17">Ages 18-24</option> <option class="age" value="18">Ages 25-34</option> <option class="age" value="19">Ages 35-44</option> </select> <select height="60" multiple="multiple" id="target" name="target[]"> </select> And, here's the js: /* This determines what options are display in the "Variables" select box */ var cat = $('#categories'); var el = $('#variables'); $('#categories option').click(function() { var class = $(this).val(); $('#variables option').each(function() { if($(this).hasClass(class)) { $(this).show(); } else { $(this).hide(); } }); }); /* This adds the option to the target select box if the user clicks "add" */ $('#add').click(function() { return !$('#variables option:selected').appendTo('#target'); }); /* This is the remove function in its current form, but doesn't append correctly */ $('#remove').click(function() { $('#target option:selected').each(function() { var class = $(this).attr('class'); if($('#variables option').hasClass(class)) { $(this).appendTo('#variables'); sortList('variables'); } }); });

  • Bridging The Gap Between Developers And Testers With VS 2010

    - by Vincent Grondin
    On January 29th Etienne Tremblay and I presented infront of roughly 120 people in Ottawa a 7 hours "sketch" on how VS 2010 and TFS 2010 can help both devs and testers in their respective work.  The presentation focused on how a testers' work can positively influence a developers' work and vice versa.  The format was quite unusual as I said it's a "sketch" where Etienne and I "ignore" the audience and we do as if we were at work and the audience is sort of "spying" on us.  In all I'm quite pleased with the content we presented and the format sure was alot of fun to render and I think the audience liked it too...  The good news for you people reading this post is that it got RECORDED and it's now available for download in quick 25 to 35 minutes format on the dev teach web site:  http://www.devteach.com/ALM-TFS2010-Bridgingthegap.aspx   There where 2 cameras, one filming us and one capturing the screen for our demos.  We switch from one to another in an intersting flow and Jean-René Roy made sure he kept all our goofs and didn't edit those funny "oups moments" where we screw-up in the scenario...  Mostly educative but hilarious at times !!! I encourage you all to download and watch the 13 episodes...  Follow a day at work for a tester and a developper using VS 2010 and TFS 2010 to improve their chemistry !  Thanks to Jean-René Roy for all the work he's put into this event and to Microsoft and Pyxis for sponsoring the event.
