Is the message it gave "Warning: Method could be a function" telling me that it would be better to move this method out of the class because it doesn't use any instance variables? Why is that? I thought the both values the function returns (reference to const char* "" and reference to a static member) cannot be temporary.

  When writing code errors, warnings and notices can occur. I know the idea behind errors. I suppose a warning is there to inform you about something that can cause an error, but isn't a notice exaclty the same? I suppose a notice is not a message of something doing right ;).
