  • MSI Parameter Inspection

    - by Ben Breen
With a windows MSI file, is there a way to grab all the possible installation parameters in .NET code? I need to make a generic user interface to configure multiple MSI files not known until run-time – then install them together in one go.

  • Difference between ISupportInitialize (BeginInit/EndInit) and SuspendLayout/ResumeLayout

    - by Pato
Hello All! Could someone please explain what the difference is between using the ISupportInitialize interface methods (BeginInit/EndInit) and using SuspendLayout/ResumeLayout? Is ISupportInitialize ONLY used during construction/"initial" initialization... or can it be used later when you want to add new child controls to an existing parent control? Any particular differences? I greatly appreciate your help! Thank you, Pato

  • Translating a C# WCF app into Visual Basic

    - by MikeG
I'm trying to write a simple/small Windows Communication Foundation service application in Visual Basic (but I am very novice in VB) and all the good examples I've found on the net are written in C#. So far I've gotten my WCF service application working but now I'm trying to add callback functionality and the program has gotten more complicated. In the C# example code I understand how everything works but I am having trouble translating into VB the portion of code that uses a delegate. Can someone please show the VB equivalent? Here is the C# code sample I'm using for reference: namespace WCFCallbacks { using System; using System.ServiceModel; [ServiceContract(CallbackContract = typeof(IMessageCallback))] public interface IMessage { [OperationContract] void AddMessage(string message); [OperationContract] bool Subscribe(); [OperationContract] bool Unsubscribe(); } interface IMessageCallback { [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void OnMessageAdded(string message, DateTime timestamp); } } namespace WCFCallbacks { using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ServiceModel; public class MessageService : IMessage { private static readonly List<IMessageCallback> subscribers = new List<IMessageCallback>(); //The code in this AddMessage method is what I'd like to see re-written in VB... public void AddMessage(string message) { subscribers.ForEach(delegate(IMessageCallback callback) { if (((ICommunicationObject)callback).State == CommunicationState.Opened) { callback.OnMessageAdded(message, DateTime. Now); } else { subscribers.Remove(callback); } }); } public bool Subscribe() { try { IMessageCallback callback = OperationContext.Current.GetCallbackChannel<IMessageCallback>(); if (!subscribers.Contains(callback)) subscribers.Add(callback); return true; } catch { return false; } } public bool Unsubscribe() { try { IMessageCallback callback = OperationContext.Current.GetCallbackChannel<IMessageCallback>(); if (!subscribers.Contains(callback)) subscribers.Remove(callback); return true; } catch { return false; } } } } I was thinking I could do something like this but I don't know how to pass the message string from AddMessage to DoSomething... Dim subscribers As New List(Of IMessageCallback) Public Sub AddMessage(ByVal message As String) Implements IMessage.AddMessage Dim action As Action(Of IMessageCallback) action = AddressOf DoSomething subscribers.ForEach(action) 'Or this instead of the above three lines: 'subscribers.ForEach(AddressOf DoSomething) End Sub Public Sub DoSomething(ByVal callback As IMessageCallback) 'I am also confused by: '((ICommunicationObject)callback).State 'Is that casting the callback object as type ICommunicationObject? 'How is that done in VB? End Sub

  • Creating a calendar in PHP

    - by Chris T
Are there any APIs or libraries that make it easy to generate a calendar for a certain month/year? I need to have some sort of admin interface for a "event planner" part of a CMS for a local youth group and I'm at a loss as to how to generate a decent calendar. Note: I only need something to generate the calendar HTML, not manage events. I'll be coding that part.

  • Do you put #import s in .h or .m files?

    - by iter
I wonder about Objective-C style. I have FooClass.[hm] that depends on BarClass.[hm] for its implementation (though not for its interface). I can #import "BarClass.h" either directly in FooClass.m or indirectly through FooClass.h. I wonder about the common choice for this.

  • Android: Prompt user to save changes when Back button is pressed

    - by chriskopec
I have an activity that contains several user editable items (an EditText field, RatingBar, etc). I'd like to prompt the user if the back/home button is pressed and changes have been made that have not yet been saved. After reading through the android documentation, it seems like this piece of code should go in the onPause method. I've tried putting an AlertDialog in the onPause however the dialog gets shown and then immediately tears down because nothing is there to block the pause from completing. This is what I've come up with so far: @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); AlertDialog ad = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).setMessage( R.string.rating_exit_message).setTitle( R.string.rating_exit_title).setCancelable(false) .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.ok, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects OK, save changes to db } }).setNeutralButton(android.R.string.cancel, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects Cancel, discard all changes } }).show(); } Am I on the right track or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Any help would be great!

  • Store Observer not being called always

    - by Nixarn
Has anyone else here experienced problems with their Store Observer class not being called always when the user for instance cancels a request (or purchases something) We just had our update that brought in app purchases go live last night, and before that we had obviously tested everything tons of times against the Sandbox and everything was working fine. Now however, when the update went live in a real environment we keep getting issues with the store. For instance, in a freshly booted iPhone / iPod, the first time you run the app, if you then try to make a purchase and then immediately cancel it from the first dialog, it seems as if the callback for the cancel is not getting called. If you then restart the app it seems as if it always works after that, or at least. Same thing with other callbacks, seems as if our store observer isn't listening as the callbacks aren't being registered on the phone. One example of this is if you purchase something, then nothing will happen (if this is the first time the app is launched at least). You get the purchase successful dialog from the app store but it seems as if our own code isn't called. If you then quit the app and restart it the callback gets called. Same problem happens if you for instance try to start a request to download all previous purchases and then immediately cancel it as the first dialog pops up, if you do that then the callback for a failed restore is not called, until you then restart the app and try it again, then it always seems to work. The way we have implemented our store observer is by creating a custom class that's implements the SKPaymentTransactionObserver interface. @interface StoreObserver : NSObject<SKPaymentTransactionObserver> In the class we have implemented the following methods: - (void)paymentQueue:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue updatedTransactions:(NSArray *)transactions - (void)paymentQueueRestoreCompletedTransactionsFinished:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue - (void)paymentQueue:(SKPaymentQueue *)queue restoreCompletedTransactionsFailedWithError:(NSError *)error The way our restore process works is that if you tap on the button that allows you to download all we simply run the restoreCompletedTransactions code as follows: [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] restoreCompletedTransactions]; However, the callback, restoreCompletedTransactionsFailedWithError, which has been implemented in the store observer, does not always get called when we try to cancel the request. This happens when you boot the iPhone / iPod and try this for the first time. If you after that restart the app everything works fine. The StoreObserver class is created when our app is launched, just by running the following code: pStoreObserver = [[StoreObserver alloc] init]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addTransactionObserver:pStoreObserver]; Has anyone else had any similar experiences? Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this? As I said, in the sandbox environment everything was working fine, no issues whatsoever, but now once it's gone live we're experiencing these.

  • Assign TableView column binding to a specific core-data object in to-many related entity based on se

    - by snown27
How would I assign a column of a TableView to be a specific entry in a Core Data entity that is linked to the NSArrayController via a to-many relationship? For example Entity: MovieEntity Attributes: title(NSString), releaseDate(NSDate) Relationship: posters<-->> PosterEntity Entity:PosterEntity Attributes: imageLocation(NSURL), default(BOOL) Relationships: movie<<--> MovieEntity So I have a three column table that I want to display the Poster, Title, and Release Date attributes in, but as one movie could potentially have several different style's of posters how do I get the poster column to only show the one that's marked default? Since the rest of the table is defined in Interface Builder I would prefer to keep it that way for the sake of keeping the code as clean as possible, but if this can only be done programmatically then I'm all ears. I just wanted to give preference in case there's more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak.

  • Multiple Inheritance Debates II: according to Stroutroup

    - by asksuperuser
I know very well about the traditional arguments about why Interface Inheritance is prefered to multiple inheritance, there has been already a post here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/191691/should-c-include-multiple-inheritance But according to Stroutroup the real reason why Microsoft and Sun decided to get rid off multiple inheritance is that they have vested interest to do so: instead of putting features in the languages, they put in frameworks so that people then become tied to their platform instead of people having the same capability at a language standard level. What do you think ?

  • Recipes/tutorials/libraries for GUI-like terminal navigation (vim/lynx-style)?

    - by qgi
Several console based applications like vim or lynx offer a rich user interface which enables the user to navigate freely around the console, manipulate data directly on screen, access menus and much more, similar to "modern" gui applications. How is that being achieved in principal on Unix/Linux with C++? Do you directly manipulate some kind of character buffer or is the screen constantly cleared and reprinted to stdout? Is there a set of libraries to implement such behavior or even some kind of a "modern" event-driven GUI toolkit for the console?

I am having trouble implementing the hasNext and Next for my STIA, can anyone help me, here is my class: public class StreamTokenizerIteratorAdapter implements Iterator<Token> { DefaultIndexImpl index; StreamTokenizer source; public StreamTokenizerIteratorAdapter(final StreamTokenizer source) { if (source == null) throw new IllegalArgumentException("source == null"); } @Override public boolean hasNext() { return !index.isEmpty(); } public Token next() { if(!index.isEmpty()) return next(); else return null; } @Override public void remove() { throw new UnsupportedOperationException(); } } Should I be using the source element in the hasNext() and next()?

  • Java Interfaces Methodology

    - by Amir Rachum
Hi all, I've been programming in Java for a few courses in the University and I have the following question: Is it methodologically accepted that every class should implement an interface? Is it considered bad practice not to do so? Can you describe a situation where it's not a good idea to use interfaces? Thanks.

  • Ruby on Rails - Calendar Display

    - by user335725
We want to create a calendar view in a room scheduling application. The outcome we want is to have hours open (variable depending on day) across the top of the grid and the names of the rooms down the left side of the grid. The body would be populated with bookings for that day. The visual we're seeking is similar to the "Weekly Builder" plugin for Rails (http://dmix.ca/2009/06/weeklybuilder-a-weekly-calendar-plugin-for-rails/). We've tried using CSS to create variably-sized images, but this isn't working out. Are there any plugins available or other ways anyone can think of to accomplish this kind of visual? Thanks

  • Is it bad practice to 'mix class and interfaces in the same package'?

    - by DerMike
Hello, I just found something that I never heard of before and I do not agree with (by now). In an (upvoted and not further commented) answer I read "why to mix class and interfaces in the same package" So I wonder, if there are reasons to separate Interfaces and implementations in Java. I know that we are not obliged to have all implementations in the package of the interface, but is it (sometimes) wise to have none there? Regards Mike [;-)

  • SQL Analysis Services - Dimension attributes with a "many" cardinality

    - by MonkeyBrother
I am creating a cube with the following tables: Customer CustomerID, Name Customer Rep CustomerID, RepID Rep RepID, Name The important thing here is that there is a many to many relationship between Reps and Customers. I want to be able to ask the question "How much sales for customers working with rep 'A'?" In the data source view i set up the relationships between both customerid columns and both repid columns. I set up the rep attribute in the dimension builder and when I try to build the cube I get this error: Errors in the high-level relationship engine. the 'Rep' table that is required for a join cannot be reached based on the relationships in the data source view.
