  • Tool for documentation of the fields of a database ?

What tool would be convenient to do that (reverse the schema + add documentation manually on all fields) ? My favors would go to an open source tool with a graphical & xml output.   • How would you organize a large complex web application (see basic example)?

    How do you usually organize complex web applications that are extremely rich on the client side. I have created a contrived example to indicate the kind of mess it's easy to get into if things are not managed well for big apps. Feel free to modify/extend this example as you wish - http://jsfiddle.net/NHyLC/1/ The example basically mirrors part of the comment posting on SO, and follows the following rules: Must have 15 characters minimum, after multiple spaces are trimmed out to one. If Add Comment is clicked, but the size is less than 15 after removing multiple spaces, then show a popup with the error. Indicate amount of characters remaining and summarize with color coding. Gray indicates a small comment, brown indicates a medium comment, orange a large comment, and red a comment overflow. One comment can only be submitted every 15 seconds. If comment is submitted too soon, show a popup with appropriate error message. A couple of issues I noticed with this example. This should ideally be a widget or some sort of packaged functionality. Things like a comment per 15 seconds, and minimum 15 character comment belong to some application wide policies rather than being embedded inside each widget. Too many hard-coded values. No code organization. Model, Views, Controllers are all bundled together. Not that MVC is the only approach for organizing rich client side web applications, but there is none in this example. How would you go about cleaning this up? Applying a little MVC/MVP along the way?   • When is a subroutine reference in @INC called?

    As the title says, I'm not clear on when such a subroutine will be called. From the require page at perldoc one can write: push @INC, \&my_sub; sub my_sub { my ($coderef, $filename) = @_; # $coderef is \&my_sub ... } but where does this go exactly? The required package or the requiring script (or package)? I've tried both with some sentinel print statements but neither worked so clearly there is something I'm not getting.

    I'm trying to make a post, from an asp classic server side page, using the user credentials... I'm using msxml2.ServerXMLHTTP to programatically make the post I've tried with several configurations in the IIS 5.1 site, but there's no way I can make IIS run with a specified account... I made a little asp page that runs whoami to verify what account the iis process i using... with IIS 5.1, using integrated security the process uses: my_machine\IWAM_my_machine I disable integrated security, and leave a domain account as anonymous access, and I get the same (¿?) to test the user I do the following private function whoami() dim shell, cmd set shell = createObject("wscript.shell") set cmd = shell.exec( server.mapPath( "whoami.exe" ) ) whoami = cmd.stdOut.readAll() set shell = nothing: set cmd = nothing end function is it because I'm issuing a shell command? I'd like to make http post calls, to another site that works with integrated security... So I need some way to pass the credentials, or at least to run with a specified account, and then configure the remote site to thrust that account... I thought that just setting the site to work with integrated security would be enough...     I have been banging my head against the wall for a couple days and need some help. I have a feeling that I am doing something really silly here, but I cannot find the issue. This is the controller for a table view. I put the SQL in line to simplify it as part of the troubleshooting of this error. Normally, it would be in an accessor method in a model class. It gets through the SQL read just fine. Finds the two objects, loads them into the todaysWorkout array and then builds the cells for the table view. The table view actually comes up on the scree and then it throws the EXC_BAD_ACCESS.   • Git sh.exe process forking issue on windows XP, slow?

    Git is essential to my workflow. I run MSYS Git on Windows XP on my quad core machine with 3GB of RAM, and normally it is responsive and zippy. Suddenly an issue has cropped up whereby it takes 30 seconds to run any command from the Git Bash command prompt, including ls or cd. Interestingly, from the bash prompt it looks likes ls runs fairly quickly, I can then see the output from ls, but it then takes ~30 seconds for the prompt to return. If I switch to the windows command prompt (by running cmd from the start menu) git related commands also take forever, even just to run. For example git status can take close to a minute before anything happens. Sometimes the processes simply don't finish. Note that I have "MSYS Git" installed as well as regular "MSYS" for things like MinGW and make. I believe the problem is related to sh.exe located in C:\Program Files\Git\bin. When I run ls from the bash prompt, or when I invoke git from the windows prompt, task manager shows up to four instances of sh.exe processes that come and go. Here I am waiting for ls to return and you can see the task manager has git.exe running and four instances of sh.exe: If I ctrl-c in the middle of an ls I sometimes get errors that include: sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable 0 [main] sh.exe" 1624 proc_subproc: Couldn't duplicate my handle<0x6FC> fo r pid 6052, Win32 error 5 sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable Or for git status: $ git status sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable sh.exe": fork: Resource temporarily unavailable Can I fix this so that git runs quickly again, and if so how? Things I have tried: Reboot Upgrade MSYS Git to most recent version & Reboot Upgrade MSYS to most recent version & Reboot Uninstall MSYS & uninstall and reinstall MSYS Git alone & Reboot I'd very much like to not wipe my box and reinstall Windows, but I will if I can't get this fixed. I can no longer code if it takes me 30 s to run git status or cd.

  • Facebook dialogs keep popping up in Firefox

    I have a facebook application running in a FBML canvas and I have a problem with dialogs (either extended permissions or stream publish dialogs). Once they popup, they keep popping up for every subsequent requests. I've tested it in Chrome and everything works fine. It seems that the URL is chained in Firefox, which gives cryptic long urls like : http://apps.facebook.com/webdweller-po/discover?_fb_q=1&_fb_qsub=apps.facebook.com#!/webdweller-dev/?_fb_q=1&_fb_qsub=apps.facebook.com Did anybody experienced such a bug?
