• python and paramiko: how to check if end of ssh tunnel is still alive and reestablish if not?

  Hello all, I'm trying to achieve the following: I have two hosts A and B. A establishes a remote port forwarding tunnel on B, i.e. B is the one a port is forwarded on to some where else and A is the one that sets up the tunnel. I tried the script rforward.py that ships with paramiko and it works very well so far. (I'm running rforward.py on A, which connects to B and forwards a port of B to somewhere else) However, when B is shutting down, A doesn't seem to recognize it. I'd rather like A to recognize that B is down and to try to reestablish the connection periodically in case B comes up again. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

• Problem with connection to MS SQL Server database using SSMS

  I have a database on line with Godaddy (who uses SQL Server 2005). They provide basic management tools, but tell you that for more advanced tools you can connect directly using SSMS. I followed their instructions to ensure my online database will accept remote connections, and can apparently log in using SSMS with success (after giving my hostname and access data). However: When attempting to expand the "Databases" folder tree, I get the following error: Failed to retrieve data for this request. • Providing SaaS functionality to a .NET portal with DLLs

  I'm not sure I'm asking the right question here, but I'm looking to provide web based functionality from one ASP.NET application to another remote 'portal-like' application. Is it possible to simply give the portal a DLL? As an example, let's say the SaaS web app has a patient-entry form that I want to be able to use from the portal application. I would like the portal app to be able to set preferences (permissions, color, style, etc), make a function call, and have that capability presented within a certain div or something. Is there any .NET technologies that provide this kind of integration?

  Hi. I wanna make an app that executes remote scripts. I am going to design it like a Windows Service that listen on tcp/ip port. Every new request I will execute a python scripts. So I can handle any number of tcp/ip request at same time, so I will need to execute python script in separate threads. How can I do that? Is that simple? The script will share some objects, like Log files(text files) and other modules. In the log file example every script will write in the same file. So the app (windows service) will be responsible for do that. I need to make this objects thread safe, right?

• UnknownHostException for server java

  I am not able to connect to an remote known server through Java code; the exception while connecting is java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host. But strangely, I am able to connect to same server through ssh. Details: Simple Java client when tries to establish connection with Java standalone server, while conneting the exception occurs at following statement: Socket socket = new Socket(ServerIP ServerPort); The port needed is open on server so that externally request can come in. Again the following is returns false InetAddress.getByName(SERVER_IP).isReachable(1000) The Server is running on Fedora, Java 5. FYI: Java cannot resolve DNS address from AIX: UnknownHostException is almost same to my question, but somehow this is not AIX related; moreover I feel the issue to be more of Network or firewall issue. Please guide me.

  I am new to git and recently set up a new account with github. I'm following a rails tutorial from Michael Hartl online ( http://www.railstutorial.org/book#fig:github_first_page ) and followed his instructions to set up my git which were also inline with the setup instructions at github. Anyways, the "Next Steps" section on github were: mkdir sample_app cd sample_app git init touch README git add README git commit -m 'first commit' git remote add origin [email protected]:rosdabos55/sample_app.git git push origin master I got all the way to the last instruction (git push origin master) without any problem. When I entered that last line into my terminal, however, I got this error message: "fatal: No path specified. See 'man git-pull' for valid url syntax." What might I be doing wrong?

  I need a tool which gets a list of machine names and file wildcards. Then it connects to all these machines (SSH) and begins to monitor changes (appendings to the end) in each file matched by wildcards. New lines in each such file are saved to the local machine to the file with the same name. (This is a task of real-time log files collecting.) I could use ssh + tail -f, of course, but it is not very robust: if a monitoring process dies and then restarts, some data from remote files may be lost (because tail -f does not save the position at which it is finished before). I may write this tool manually, but before - I'd like to know if such tool already exists or not.

• Will client JVM for a web service(https) throw an SSL Exception when the server is having a valid ce

  I have a web service deployed on tomcat hosted on a remote server. I have set it up such that it can be accessed only via HTTPS. For this, I generated a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) and used it to get a temporary certificate from VeriSign. My web service client is on my local machine. If I try to access the service it will throw a javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:unable to find valid certification path to requested target If I install the certificate in to local Java's keystore, the issue will be resolved. My question is if I install a valid SSL certificate from a CA in to my tomcat server, will I get this client-side error even if I do not import the certificate to local key store?

• Django : mysql : 1045, "Access denied for user

  I have the whole setup working for months on my local computer. I'm installing on a remote site now. Created a fresh mysql DB, and created a new user ("someuser") and gave it complete grants, like so - GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON . TO 'someuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'somepassword' WITH GRANT OPTION; I have sync'd the db, using "python manage.py syncdb" and the correct tables were created. My settings.py has this same user. But when I try to login a user through the application, and it hits the DB, I see the following in the logs - (1045, "Access denied for user 'someuser'@'localhost' (using password: YES)") I logged in through mysql (installed on the same box as django) and checked the grants and it correctly shows - Grants for djangouser@localhost GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON * . * TO 'someuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD '*thesaltedpasswordOverHere' WITH GRANT OPTION I don't want to use the root user/password for django, since it doesn't seem the correct way. Any pointers as to what might be wrong ?

  Hi, I am using Watin mostly to automate thing I do by hand. Sometimes, I need to change proxy. To do this, I have to set up IE to use a local proxy all the time (listens locally and forwards to a remote porxy), and then by hand change the settings of that program each time I need to use another proxy. This is not an elegant solution! It may work, but it is not nice. So, my question is, how do I change programmatically IE settings while using Watin? I code in VB.NET. Thank you

• WSSQL query for multiple computers at once

  I can run normal searches just fine. Windows 7 won't let me add a network share to my local index, but I can query the remote index just fine. The problem is that I can't find a way to query two indexes at once. I was hoping that something like this would work: SELECT System.ItemName FROM compA.SystemIndex, compB.SystemIndex WHERE SCOPE='file://compA/pathA' OR SCOPE='file://compB/pathB' but it doesn't. For simple queries, I can query compA and compB separately and then merge the results myself, but I'm hoping for a better way. Anybody here have some experience with this?

• Recommendations for an in memory database vs thread safe data structures

  TLDR: What are the pros/cons of using an in-memory database vs locks and concurrent data structures? I am currently working on an application that has many (possibly remote) displays that collect live data from multiple data sources and renders them on screen in real time. One of the other developers have suggested the use of an in memory database instead of doing it the standard way our other systems behaves, which is to use concurrent hashmaps, queues, arrays, and other objects to store the graphical objects and handling them safely with locks if necessary. His argument is that the DB will lessen the need to worry about concurrency since it will handle read/write locks automatically, and also the DB will offer an easier way to structure the data into as many tables as we need instead of having create hashmaps of hashmaps of lists, etc and keeping track of it all. I do not have much DB experience myself so I am asking fellow SO users what experiences they have had and what are the pros & cons of inserting the DB into the system?

• Getting ssh to execute a command in the background on target machine

  This is a follow-on question to the How do you use ssh in a shell script? question. If I want to execute a command on the remote machine that runs in the background on that machine, how do I get the ssh command to return? When I try to just include the ampersand (&) at the end of the command it just hangs. The exact form of the command looks like this: ssh user@target "cd /some/directory; program-to-execute &" Any ideas? One thing to note is that logins to the the target machine always produce a text banner and I have ssh keys set up so no password is required.

• not getting output from parmiko/ssh command

  I am using paramiko/ssh/python to attempt to run a command on a remote server. When I ssh manually and run the command in question, I get the results I want. But if I use the python (co-opted from another thread on this site) below, there is no returned data. If I modify the command to be something more basic like 'pwd' or 'ls' I can then get the output. Any help is appreciated.   Hi i working on a wordpress plugin where i'm getting data from a remote API. at irst i used cURL, but after reading this blogpost i started using WordPress HTTP_API instead. but i've got onw problem. The API answers are Gziped, and i havn't figured out how to decompress them. The Codex page is talking about an argument called decompress, but i've tried it in alot of ways but i don't get it right. • FTP server deatails according to domain

  Hello, What I am trying to accomplish is getting relative and absolute paths to files, images and folders that reside on a remote server. I have website address, and FTP details (these are required when signing up). What i need to know is whether the FTP details correspond correctly with the website. Firstly I used (this is all in PHP I forgot to add) : $conn_id = ftp_connect("ftp.".$WEBSITE); if($login_result = ftp_login ($conn_id, $ftpUser, $ftpPass)) which works. BUT what i dont know, and am not sure about at all, will ("ftp.".$WEBSITE) be sufficient for all "FTP servers"? Regards, Phil Jackson

The server is Windows 2003 Enterprise, the service is a .NET component wraped as COM+ (I know that I don´t have to do it that way, but the purpose is to itegrate a legacy App with a .NET component) The purpose of this is just to test that the .NET COM+ Component works. • How to handle security constraints using GWT 2.1's RequestFactory?

  I am currently developing a GWT 2.1 application that is to be deployed on Google App Engine. I would like to realise the server communication using the new RequestFactory. Now my question is how to handle fine-grained security issues in this context? Some server actions (of those declared in the RequestContext stubs) shall be restricted to certain users (possibly depending on the parameters of the remote call). If a call is unauthorised, I would like the client to show a login page (so that one may log in as a different user, for example). From the Expenses example, I know how to implement an automatic redirection to a login page, but in this example, the security model is quite simple: A client is allowed to access the servlet if and only if a user is logged in. Shall I raise a custom UnAuthorizedException in my server-side service? Where should I intercept this exception? (Can I do this in a servlet filter like the GaeAuthFilter of the Expenses example?)

  Hi I have used SMO API.in that i have used SmoApplication.EnumAvailableServers(FALSE) and from that i have filtered local instances i have used this approch insted of true to make this as convinent for remote sqldiscovery also.using that api created a dll and use that dll in c++. Now this is working in all combinations but some times it is failed to retrieve the instannces in win2008 sql2008 cluster combination. if i run the exe for 5 times it got succeed for 3 times and failed for two times... What is wromg with win-sql2008 cluster .is there any additional changes needed to make it work properrly.My firewall is off and also added exception for tcp port 1433.   In my current project I'm using an open source forum (https://github.com/vanillaforums/Garden.git). I was planning on doing something like this : git remote add vanilla_remote https://github.com/vanillaforums/Garden.git git checkout -b vanilla vanilla_remote/master git checkout master git read-tree --prefix=vanilla -u vanilla This way I can make change into the vanilla folder (like changing config) and commit it to my master branch and I can also switch into my vanilla branch to fetch updates. My problem is when I try to merge the branch together git checkout vanilla git pull git checkout master git merge --squash -s subtree --no-commit vanilla The problem is that the "update commit" goes on top of my commits and "overwrite" my change. I would rather like to have my commits replay on top of the update. Is there a simple way to do that? I'm not very good in git so maybe this is the wrong approach. Also, I really don't want to mix my history with the vanilla history.

  Hi, I have a asp.net application connecting to a .net web service, whenever i login & reach the main page, web services returns me back the data. But if i login for may be more than 1 or 2hrs, when i click any of the links i get: "System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond" What is the fix for this? • READING stderr from within Awk

  I want to keep SSH debug info separate (and logged) from other input. However, if I simply redirect stderr to a log file, I risk combining output from SSH and output from the remote process on the host machine (that might send something to stderr): $ ssh -v somemachine 2 file.log So, I want to filter out only those lines that match "debug1": $ ssh -v somemachine | awk '/debug1/ {print "file.log"; next} {print}' Good so far, BUT ssh's debug output goes to stderr. So... $ ssh -v somemachine 2& | awk '/debug1/ {print "file.log"; next} {print}' Foiled again! I don't want to mix stdout and stderr. BAD! What does a kid like me do? I was about to go the route of named pipes or some such wildeness, but really, all I need to know is how to get awk to match patterns from stderr ONLY.

• SQL Server 2008 - cannot register default instance MSSQLSERVER

  Hello, I have installed SQL Server 2008 Developer on Windows 7 64 bit. In Management Studio I cannot register the default instance MSSQLSERVER, it cannot find it although the service is running. I get the message: Cannot connect to PHOENIX\MSSQLSERVER. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 87) However Management Studio does show the SQL Server 2005 Express instance (that was installed with VS 2008 Pro) which appeared as already registered. I an using Windows Authentication as I installed it in mixed mode. Any ideas would be appreciated, many thanks paul
