• Extracting friends' E-Mail addresses from Facebook (Skype?)

  I am currently in the process of migrating away from Facebook (privacy concerns, mostly). For obvious reasons, I want to save away the email addresses from my friends' profile pages. However, this turned out to be a rather hard task, because the Facebook API doesn't let you access any mail addresses. However, I just tried the automatic contact import feature of Skype, and it seems to be able to retrieve the email addresses of my friends from Facebook. Does anyone know how it's done so I could replicate it?

  I am using djcelery 2.1.4 with ghettoq 0.4.5 and django 1.2.3 and I am able to run tasks all day long, but when I try to use any broadcast functionality it fails without errors. Take the simplest case -- I run celeryd: python manage.py celeryd The daemon starts and I try to run a ping: >>> from celery.task.control import ping >>> ping() [] I can see the message that ping created appear in the database, but apparently none of the nodes are picking it up? Am I doing something wrong here? Does broadcast not work with carrot?

  I'm new to programming in C and have been given the task of creating a 2D array that stores random letters from A-Z using the random () function. I know how to do random numbers. nextvalue = random ( ) % 10001; but am unsure on how exactly to create a random character. I know that you can use ASCII to create a random character using the range 65 - 90 in the ASCII table. Can anyone help me come up with a solution? I would greatly appreciate it.

  I have several client databases that use my windows application. I want to send this data for online web site. The client databases and server database structure is different because we need to add client ID column to some tables in server data base. I use this way to sync databases; use another application and use C# bulk copy with transaction to sync databases. My server database sql server is too busy and parallel task cannot be run. I work on this solution: I use triggers after update, delete, insert to save changes in one table and create sql query to send a web service to sync data. But I must send all data first! Huge data set (bigger than 16mg) I think can't use replication because the structure and primary keys are different.

Another obvious solution is a lookup table, but without making it unnecessarily large, a lookup table would require some bit rearrangement anyway and I suspect the whole task can be better accomplished with simple bit rearrangement. For the curious, those magic numbers are the only "large" Unicode codepoints that appear in legacy ISO-8859 and Windows codepages.

• How to distribute the chance to display each SWF evenly among banner collection?

  Hi all: I am working on The ausdcf.org to try adding several banner ads in swf format to the top. Everything starts to work, but I've got several questions that need your help: The client chose not to go with Google AdManager, but prefer a "minimal approach" to do this task. What I am trying to do is sort of "mimicking" the way Google AdManager does for banners, that is, to split the chance of each particular swf to be shown to the visitor evenly among the banner collection. Definitely I can add some jQuery code to do this from client-side, a random number generator and if-else statement would work - just $.load() it! However, what if I'd like to make sure those disabled Javascript (is there any now btw?) still be able to see different swfs in each visit. Any suggestion on how to approach this? I Tried using this.dispose() on exit button ,tried this.close() , tried form2 =null in the main code ,and tried clearing all controls from this form by code before Disposing and every time the clicks the button memory usage by the application increases more and memory used by previous instance not released.   So I'm working on an exceedingly large codebase, and recently upgraded to gcc 4.3, which now triggers this warning: warning: deprecated conversion from string constant to ‘char*’ Obviously, the correct way to fix this is to find every declaration like char *s = "constant string"; or function call like void foo(char *s); foo("constant string"); and make them const char pointers. However, that would mean touching 564 files, minimum, which is not a task I wish to perform at this point in time. The problem right now is that I'm running with -werror, so I need some way to stifle these warnings. How can I do that?

  If we have the following 2 snippets of code in c++ that do the same task: int a, b=somenumber; while(b > 0) { a = b % 3; b /= 3; } or int b=somenumber; while(b > 0) { int a=b%3; b /= 3; } I don't know much about computer architecture/c++ design, but i think that the first code is faster because it declares the integer a at the beginning and just uses it in the while-loop, and in the second code the integer a is being declared everytime the while-loop starts over. Can some one help me with this, am i correct or what and why ?

  I would like to draw a rectangle around a video playing on my screen. For example, I am watching a YouTube video in my browser. I would like to be able to take a screenshot, analyze that screenshot, and then draw a rectangle around where the YouTube video is playing. I have just started looking into how I might be able to to this. I came across OpenCV. I understand that OpenCV covers many computer vision techniques. Would any of them be particularly well suited for this task? Also, is this something that can be done in real time? Finally, is there a technique that would work for both in browser and full screen?   I'm trying to design a system similar to the traditional server monitoring systems like MOM, Tivoli, Open View, where an agent will record data and then upload it to a central database once a day, but them also be able to send immediate alerts back to the server. I'm not sure what the best methodology might be for this. I've started looking at Microsoft sync services but I'm not sure if it will fit my needs. I'm using VS2008 and C#.   We have hundreds of thousands of tasks that need to be run at a variety of arbitrary intervals, some every hour, some every day, and so on. The tasks are resource intensive and need to be distributed across many machines. Right now tasks are stored in a database with an "execute at this time" timestamp. To find tasks that need to be executed, we query the database for jobs that are due to be executed, then update the timestamps when the task is complete. Naturally this leads to a substantial write load on the database. As far as I can tell, we are looking for something to release tasks into a queue at a set interval. (Workers could then request tasks from that queue.) What is the best way to schedule recurring tasks at scale? For what it's worth we're largely using Python, although we have no problems using components (RabbitMQ?) written in other languages.

• Where does Eclipse save the list of files to open on startup?

  Question: where does Eclipse store the list of files it opens on startup? Background: Having installed a plugin into Eclipse which promptly crashed, my Eclipse workspace is in a bit of a state. When started, the building workspace task pauses indefinitely at 20%. Before I uninstall the plugin I want to give it another chance. I have a feeling that the reason Eclipse is pausing is because of a file which was opened when it crashed, which it tries to reopen on startup. If I can stop this file from opening on startup there's a chance I may be able to coax the plugin to behave. The problem is I have no idea where that list of files is persisted between runs of Eclipse. ...a second before I posted this question, I realised I could just delete the file causing the problem (duh). However, the search has frustrated me enough to want to find the answer.

  I have a table with multiple <tbody> elements. At a given momement, certain <tbody elements are visible and some are hidden, and I need to select only the visible ones. I use jQuery's :visible selector. Now the problem is that I need to perform that task before I display the table, AKA while the table is hidden, and then the :visible selector doesn't work. Now my question is: Should i use a form to post my search string. If so, then which method should i use, GET or POST. OR, should i use javascript window.location method, and append the search string to it. If we use this method then search string can append more than once to url. Or any other best way to implement this. Can anybody give the best solution for this as it is a common task for each application to have.

• Unwanted Retriggering of Textbox Events

  This is one of those "seems obvious" as how to do, but came across interesting side effect in implementing. I'm trying to keep two text boxes syncronized when information is updated. In this example, I will be using txtStartDate and txtEndDate. If the txtStartDate is changed, then the txtEndDate should should be updated. Likewise, if the txtEndDate changes, I want the txtSartDate to be updated. The side effect I'm comming across is that when I set them up under the TextChanged event for both, the events seem to retrigger against each other indefinately (endless loop?). Am I using the wrong event? Is this a task for a delegate?

However, I thing this is really not a good approach by using the client software keep "check-mesg" from server. So I think I am just simulating the IM program. I want to make the client app become a listening server, and let user p2p talking without a "mesg-centre" at the main server(unless offline mesg happen). The question is how do I tell the external user ( other client app ) my location while I am behind a router ? • Gradient boosting predictions in low-latency production environments?

  Can anyone recommend a strategy for making predictions using a gradient boosting model in the <10-15ms range (the faster the better)? I have been using R's gbm package, but the first prediction takes ~50ms (subsequent vectorized predictions average to 1ms, so there appears to be overhead, perhaps in the call to the C++ library). As a guideline, there will be ~10-50 inputs and ~50-500 trees. The task is classification and I need access to predicted probabilities. I know there are a lot of libraries out there, but I've had little luck finding information even on rough prediction times for them. The training will happen offline, so only predictions need to be fast -- also, predictions may come from a piece of code / library that is completely separate from whatever does the training (as long as there is a common format for representing the trees).

  I've been assigned a task to create a game that generates 4 digits and the user has to guess the digits one at a time to get the correct result. If the number is correct a Y is displayed and if not, a N. This was easy, now the next step was to implement another two responses. If the answer is too high, a H is displayed and too low, an N. Again, was easy - now the third is to use the same design as game 2 but if the number is 3 higher than a H is displayed and same if it's 3 lower than a L is displayed - otherwise an X is displayed. I can't figure out how to do this. Here's my test code for game 2 for just one of the digits - any help is appreciated. • Guidance on using drop in DLLs

  I have been giving the task to rewrite a internal utility in .net for my work. One of program requirements the new system has is have a dll that implements a set of interfaces and have the program call the DLL. Now this dll will be changed out a lot per deployment. My question is what is the best way to do it from a development standpoint? Do I add a template DLL (one that only has the interfaces but no implementation) to the project references like I would do any other dll that I would use.
