• iPhone – Best method to import/drawing UI graphic elements? CGContextDrawPDFPage?

  Hello, What is the best way to use the custom UI graphics on the iPhone? I've come across CGContextDrawPDFPage and Panic's Shrinkit. Should I be using storing my vector ui graphics as PDF's and loading them using CGContextDrawPDFPage to draw them. I did previously asked what way Apple store their UI graphics and was answered crushed png. The options as I see it, but I would really want to know what technique other people use. This question is for vector graphics only. Looking for what is standard / most effective / most efficient. PNG (bitmapped image) Custom UIView drawing code (generated from Opacity) PDF (I've not used this method, is it with CGContextDrawPDFPage?) Many thanks Ross

• Prevent SQL injection from form-generated SQL - NO PreparedStmts

  Hi all, I have a search table where user will be able to filter results with a filter of the type: Field [Name], Value [John], Remove Rule Field [Surname], Value [Blake], Remove Rule Field [Has Children], Value [Yes], Remove Rule Add Rule So the user will be able to set an arbitrary set of filters, which will result essentially in a completely dynamic WHERE clause. In the future I will also have to implement more complicated logical expressions, like Where (name=John OR name=Nick) AND (surname=Blake OR surname=Bourne), Of all 10 fields the user may or may not filter by, I don't know how many and which filters the user will set. So, I cannot use a prepared statement (which assumes that at least we know the fields in the WHERE clause). This is why prepared statements are unfortunately out of the question, I have to do it with plain old, generated SQL. What measures can I take to protect the application from SQL Injection (REGEX-wise or any other way)?

• Customize WebForm module in Drupal

  I'm new to Drupal 6.10 CMS and PHP too. I'm creating my website with drupal and I have found a module called Webform I like it, it's pretty easy to create forms with different types of fields and file uploading. The one thing that i can't figure out is how to add Rich Text before all fields. Something like introduction to the form. This module has "Description" field that will show text as a plain text but it doesn't have rich text in it. What can I use to make that happen. Is it possible to hardcode html there or is there any other modules that can allow to do something like that? Thanks

DataAnnotations in sample code does not work when the database fields are set to not allow nulls. ERROR occurs with the code from the book and with the sample code downloaded from codeplex. Help! I'm really frustrated by this!! I can't believe something so simple just doesn't work???   Essentially I have three fields and I am creating a new one which is the three combined making a mailable address; problem being some fields contain null values and adding myString to a null just produces a null in sql. So this is my code, can anyone make it any cleaner? It's still looking pretty butch! • Assign binding path at runtime in WPF DataTemplate

  I am writing a WPF program in C# in which I have a ListView for which the columns will be populated at runtime. I would like to use a custom DataTemplate for the GridViewColumn objects in the ListView. In the examples I have seen where the number of columns is fixed in advance, a custom DataTemplate is often created using something like the XAML below. <DataTemplate x:Key="someKey"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=FirstName}" /> </DataTemplate> This DataTemplate could also later be assigned to GridViewColumn.CellTemplate in the code-behind by calling FindResource("someKey"). However, this alone is of no use to me, because in this example the Path element is fixed to FirstName. Really I need something where I can set the Path in code. It is my impression that something along these lines may be possible if XamlReader is used, but I'm not sure how in practice I would do this. Any solutions are greatly appreciated.

  I am writing a C# application which allows users to store emails in a MS SQL Server database. Many times, multiple users will be copied on an email from a customer. If they all try to add the same email to the database, I want to make sure that the email is only added once. MD5 springs to mind as a way to do this. I don't need to worry about malicious tampering, only to make sure that the same email will map to the same hash and that no two emails with different content will map to the same hash. My question really boils down to how one would combine multiple fields into one MD5 (or other) hash value. Some of these fields will have a single value per email (e.g. subject, body, sender email address) while others will have multiple values (varying numbers of attachments, recipients). I want to develop a way of uniquely identifying an email that will be platform and language independent (not based on serialization). Any advice?

• Design question for WinForms (C#) app, using Entity Framework

  I am planning on writing a small home budget application for myself, as a learning excercise. I have built my database (SQL Server), and written a small console application to interact with it, and test out scenarios on my database. Once I am happy, my next step would be to start building the application - but I am already wondering what the best/standard design would be. I am palnning on using Entity Framework for handling my database entities... then linq to sql/objects for getting the data, all running under a WinForms (for now) application. My plan (I've never used EF... and most of my development background is Web apps) is to have my database... with Entity Framework in it's own project.. which has the connection to the database. This project would expose methods such as 'GetAccount()', 'GetAccount(int accountId)' etc. I'd then have a service project that references my EF project. And on top of that, my GUI project, which makes the calls to my service project. But I am stuck. Lets say I have a screen that displays a list of Account types (Debit, Credit, Loan...). Once I have selected one, the next drop down shows a list of accounts I have that suite that account type. So, my OnChange event on my DropDown on the account type control will make a call to the serviceLayer project, 'GetAccountTypes()', and I would expect back a List< of Account Types. However, the AccountType object ... what is that? That can't be the AccountType object from my EF project, as my GUI project doesn't have reference to it. Would I have to have some sort of Shared Library, shared between my GUI and my Service project, with a custom built AccountType object? The GUI can then expect back a list of these. So my service layer would have a method: public List<AccountType> GetAccountTypes() That would then make a call to a custom method in my EF project, which would probably be the same as the above method, except, it returns an list of EF.Data.AccountType (The Entity Framework generated Account Type object). The method would then have the linq code to get the data as I want it. Then my service layer will get that object, and transform it unto my custom AccountType object, and return it to the GUI. Does that sound at all like a good plan?

• CURL Authentication being lost?

  I am authenticating a login via CURL just fine. I have a variable I am using to display the returned HTML, and it is returning my user control panel as if I am logged in. After authenticating, I want to communicate variables with a form on another page within the site; but for some reason the HTML from that page is returning a non-authenticated version of the header (as if the original authentication never took place.) I have a cookies.txt file with 777 permissions, and have tried just getting the contents of the same page shown when I authenticate and it is as if I am losing any associated session/cookie data somewhere along the way.   Hi, I am trying to extend Visual Studio 2010 RC to be able to use a custom programming language. The first two things I've tried to do is a syntax highlight/Intellisense feature (easily done, thanks to "Ook!" sample from PDC09) and a possibility to create new project templates (i.e. be able to open *.myproj files). For this second task, I can't find any easy tutorials or samples. Most samples are for Visual Studio 2008 (as for IronPython integration) or even VS2003. The few samples available for VS2010 do not work (including MPFProj) or do not compile, and are too hard to understand. Is there any easy-to-understand sample, either using MPFProj or a standalone solution, showing how to integrate templates for a custom language inside Visual Studio 2010?

  Hi, I am looking for a solution for this scenario - I need to implement a feature to allow user to add various controls to canvas(WPF, custom and third party ) and then select any one of them and modify some properties in property grid(changes needs to be reflected in UI). I don't want to expose all the properties of any control only some of them(relevant to end user); apart from this there are some properties which will be common for all controls e.g. Title, Value(Value will be bound to some property of a control, say Text of TextBox and Content of Label) etc. I am thinking of putting all the common proeprties at one place. Things I am confused aout - How to create such base class, whether to use UserControl or Custom Control for this? How will the binding work between Control, base class proeprties and PropertyGrid? What type of object will I expose to property grid? Any idea on what approch should be followed in this case, any kind of input will really be helpful.

• Survey on logging classes / frameworks / writers

  I am curious what writers (handlers, loggers) are you using. Text file and db its quite obvious, but what are other possibilities ? Firephp maybe (as in Zend_Log), mail, jabber, url ? Is anyone using syslog() or error_log() ? Are you using streams (especially custom ones) ? Are you using custom error levels or you limit yourself to predefined values? Are you logging common php errors / warning / notices? And last question - is there anything new in the town, worth consideration, apart of Zend_Log ? Or are you using your homebrew class?

Obviously the user won't be working with the pickled string directly. Also, the interface would need a widget for adding/removing strings from a set. What is the best way to go about doing this? I'm not super familiar with Django's admin system. Do I need to build a custom admin widget or something?   INFORMIX-SQL 7.3 Perform Screens: According to documentation, in an "after editadd editupdate of table" control block, its instructions are executed before the row is added or updated to the table, whereas in an "after add update of table" control block, its instructions are executed after the row has been added or updated to the table, supposedly meaning that any instructions which would alter values of field-tags linked to table.columns would not be committed to the table, but field-tags linked to displayonly fields will change?.. However, when using "after add update of table" I placed instructions which alter values for field-tags linked to table.columns and their displayed and committed values also changed!.. I would have thought that an "after add update of table" would only alter displayonly fields.

  How do I transpose rows and columns in Access 2003? I have a multiple tables that I need to do this on. (I've reworded my question because feedback tells me it was confusing how I originally stated it.) Each table has 30 fields and 20 records. Lets say my fields are Name, Weight, Zip Code, Quality4, Quality5, Quality6 through Quality30 which is favorite movie. Let's say the records each describe a person. The people are Alice, Betty, Chuck, Dave, Edward etc through Tommy.. I have used it before for a single application and works well but was wondering if it technically possible to use this architecture for a SaaS? • Building big, immutable objects without constructors having long parameter lists

  Hi StackOverflow! I have some big (more than 3 fields) Objects which can and should be immutable. Every time I run into that case i tend to create constructor abominations with long parameter lists. It doesn't feel right, is hard to use and readability suffers. It is even worse if the fields are some sort of collection type like lists. A simple addSibling(S s) would ease the object creation so much but renders the object mutable. What do you guys use in such cases? I'm on Scala and Java, but i think the problem is language agnostic as long as the language is object oriented.   How can I use both of these in the same UIView correctly? I have one custom subclassed CALayer in which I draw a pattern within drawInContext I have a another in which I set an overlay PNG image as the contents. I have a third which is just a background. How do I overlay all 3 of these items? No matter where I try and put bottomLayer, it always prevents squaresLayer from drawing. The reason I need 3 layers is I intend to animate the colors in the background and custom layers. The top layer is just a graphical overlay.

• Populate Multiple PDFs

  I am using itextsharp to populate my PDFs. I have no issues with this. Basically what I am doing is getting the PDF and populating the fields in memory then passing back the MemoryStream to be displayed on a webpage. All this is working with a single document PDF. What I am trying to figure out now, is merging multiple PDFs into one MemoryStream. The part I cant figure out is, the documents I am populating are identical. So for example, I have a List<Person> that contains 5 persons. I want to fill out a PDF for each person and merge them all into one, in memory. Bare in mind I am going to fill out the same type of document for each person. The problem I am getting is that when I try to add a second copy of the same PDF to be filled out for the second iteration, it just overwrites the first populated PDF, since it's the same document, therefore not adding a second copy for the second Person at all. So basically if I had the 5 people, I would end up with a single page with the data of the 5th person, instead of a PDF with 5 like pages that contain the data of each person respectively. Here's some code...   In this thread many people have indicated that they use log4net. I am a fan of TraceSources and would like to know why log4net is used. Here is why I like trace sources: Pluggable listeners - XML, TextFile, Console, EventLog, roll your own Customisable trace switches (error, warning, info, verbose, start, end, custom) Customisable configuration The Logging Application Block is just a big set of TraceListeners Correlation of activities/scopes (e.g., associate all logs within an ASP.NET request with a given customer The Service Trace Viewer allows you to visualize events against these activities individually All of it is configurable in app.config/web.config. Since the .NET framework internally uses TraceSources, it also gives me a consistent way of configuring tracing - with log4net, I have to configure log4net as well as TraceSources. What does log4net give me that TraceSources don't (or that couldn't be done by writing a couple of custom TraceListeners)?

• Loading a ConfigurationSection with a required child ConfigurationElement with .Net configuration fr

  I have a console application that is trying to load a CustomConfigurationSection from a web.config file. The custom configuration section has a custom configuration element that is required. This means that when I load the config section, I expect to see an exception if that config element is not present in the config. The problem is that the .NET framework seems to be completely ignoring the isRequired attribute. So when I load the config section, I just creates an instance of the custom configuration element and sets it on the config section. My question is, why is this happening? I want the GetSection() method to fire a ConfigurationErrors exception since a required element is missing from the configuration.
