• Determine file creation date in Java

  Hello, There is another similar question to mine on StackOverflow (How to get creation date of a file in Java), but the answer isn't really there as the OP had a different need that could be solved via other mechanisms. I am trying to create a list of the files in a directory that can be sorted by age, hence the need for the file creation date. I haven't located any good way to do this after much trawling of the web. Is there a mechanism for getting file creation dates? Thanks, Todd BTW, currently on a Windows system, may need this to work on a Linux system as well. Also, I can't guarantee that a file naming convention would be followed where the creation date/time is embedded in the name.

• Website downloader library

  I need to put a little project together for myself, and I need some functionality to download a page for offline viewing. Is there a library that will download a given page and its embedded images, and edit the img tags to reflect the local locations of the images. I know there are a lot of website downloaders out there, but I cant find something that i can use directly in my code. I have some basic scripts done in python, so Python is very welcome. but pretty much any language will do.

• "tailing" a binary file based on string location using bash?

  I've got a bunch of binary files, each containing an embedded string near the end of the file but at different places (only occurs once in each file). I need to extract the part of the file starting at the location of the string till the end of the file and dump it into a new file. eg. If the file's contents is "AWREDEDEDEXXXERESSDSDS" and the string of interest is "XXX", then the part of the file I need is "XXXERESSDSDS". What's the easiest way to do this in bash?

• Selecting a UserControl from XAML

  I'm working on a problem right now where I need to embed a UserControl inside another UserControl. But, I need to determine at runtime which embedded UserControl to instantiate. This implies to me that some form of data binding and/or template selection mechanism has to be invoked, but I'm not sure how to proceed with the pure XAML approach. If I was to do this with code, I would define some sort of container control in the parent UserControl, and then in the code-behind, implement some logic which would instantiate the appropriate child UserControl and then insert it as Content into the specified container in the parent UserControl. Can this be done using only XAML, or is some sort of code-behind required?

• Dynamic size canvas with Scroll bars

  Hi, I am developing a simple WPF application without any auto layout. The goal is when a user clicks (mouse down) a element (say textBlock) will appear at the location of the mouse click. For this I am using canvas panel embedded in a Grid of 1 row, 1 column and scrollviewer (visible). The issues are: 1. when the application window is resized the scroll viewers do not become active. 2. I want the ability to auto grow the canvas with mouse drag. Something like in MS-Excel when user drags the mouse horizontally/vertically the canvas should grow. I have searched net a lot to figure this out and am unable to get an answer.   I need some opinions on using PHP to make completely "scalable" websites.. For instance, using viewport resolution and resizing images, applying dynamic css styles..... In my mind doing this just add's to the complexity and should not be done, it should be fixed or fluid using strictly css and no server-side languages to generate layouts based on the device size.. I need some input and maybe some philosophy on why using this approach is not used at all..

  Hi, I am creating hotel booking system which requires lots of modal dialogs. For this purpose I am using jqueryUI dialog widget. yesterday I embedded it on one of the features of application but this time when dialog opens upon click then its Header is very large about 300-400px in height where as normal header is about 40px in height. Everywhere in the application it is still working fine but at only place it is giving such error. Css is also identical at all places. If anybody knows how to fix this issue then please post here.   We have WPF based application using Prism Framework. We have embedded IronPython and using Python Unit Test framework to automate our application GUI testing. It works very well. We have difficulties in comparing two float numbers. Example class MyClass { public object Value { get; set;} public MyClass() { Value = (float) 12.345; } } In IronPython When I compare the MyClass Instance's Value property with python float value(12.345), it says it doesn't equal This statement raises assert error self.assertEqual(myClassInstance.Value, 12.345) This statement works fine. self.assertEqual(float(myClassInstance.Value.ToString()), 12.345) When I check the type of the type(myClassInstance.Value), it returns Single in Python where as type(12.345) returns float. How to handle the C# float to Python comparison without explicit conversions?

• Chipmunk Physics or Box2D for C++ 2D GameEngine ?

  Hello, I'm developing what it's turning into a "cross-platform" 2D Game Engine, my initial platform target is iPhone OS, but could move on to Android or even some console like the PSP, or Nintendo DS, I want to keep my options open. My engine is developed in C++, and have been reading a lot about Box2D and Chipmunk but still I can't decide which one to use as my Physics Middleware. Chipmunk appears to have been made to be embedded easily, and Box2D seems to be widely used. Chipmunk is C , and Box2D is C++, but I've heard the API's of Box2D are much worse than chipmunk's API's. For now I will be using the engine shape creation and collision detection features for irregular polygons (not concave). I value: 1) Good API's 2) Easy to integrate. 3) Portability. And of course if you notice anything else, I would love to hear it. Which one do you think that would fit my needs better ?

  Hi I'm new to both winsock and bluetooth programming. I need to develop a bluetooth service to run on a pc. Looking at the MSDN library they say to use WSASetService(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa362921%28VS.85%29.aspx) function to publish a service. The problem is that the WSAQUERYSET(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa362920%28VS.85%29.aspx) structure, that has to be passed to WSASetService, needs a binary SDP record and i don't know how to get it. In the Windows embedded section of the MSDN library they describe a procedure to obtain an SDP record using Bthnscreate. I installed Windows CE 6 to use this tool but i can't find it in the install directory nor in the entire system. How can i get an SDP record? Thanks!

I need to browse through a file which may contain queries like this. String sql = "select * from test where name="+test+"and age="+age; There are nearly 1000 files and each file has different kind of queries like this where I have to pluck the query alone which I have done through an unix script.But I need to convert these Java based queries to Oracle compatible queries. ie. select * from test where name="name" and age="age" Basically I need to check the syntax of the queries by this.I have seen something like this in TOAD but I have more than 1000 files and can't manually change each one.Is there a way?   Hi, I am using a UIWebView as an embedded browser within my iphone app. I am using the shouldStartLoadWithRequest function to handle UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked events for links clicked by a user. It is working as expected for a number of sites, but not for all. For example: when I click on any of the links on website http://www.foxnews.mobi, the UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked event is not getting fired. Same thing happens for some other sites. I read somewhere that links with blank target do not fire the event, however this is not the cause of the problem in my case. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  I am creating solution and inside I have three projects: A WCF Service Library Project A DataAccess Project (Class Library) A Web site for hosting WCF service The implementation of the service is on the project # 1, but in order to access the DataBase I use a second project that implements the data access using a class library project. That problem is in order to get data access I need to configure a connection string, but that connection string must be configurable in a production environment, I meant in production I am going to deploy the site, which is a very simple project that contains only a reference WCF Service Library Project then a guy from database department will configure the connection string. In development I have an app.config on the data access project but when I do the release that app.config is embedded on the dll. Any ideas how can we achieve our purpose

  I am looking for a tool that will allow me to monitor and control programs running inside a Windows VM from the Linux host machine. I realize that this is similar to what a rootkit would do, and I am completely happy to use some hacker software if it provides the necessary functionality (and if I can get it in source-code form). If I can't find something, I'll have to write it using C. Probably an embedded HTTP server running on an odd port and doing some kind of XMLRPC thing. • Should I inherit from a stackpanel instead of a stack panel, grid or other UI element or UserControl

  So I'm building a peice of UI that might me in a dialog window or might be in embedded in part of a bigger page. I don't have alot of experience with WPF, but in ASP.NET you always used UserControls, because their wasn't anyt really generic UI inherit to inherit from (and in a way UserControl was just a div). My coworker has written alot of controls that inherit directly from stackpanel. That seems like a decent way of doing things. But when I went to create a control for the code I was going to write I was presented with a dialog that only included the UserControl, which I wasn't that familiar with in the context of WPF. So can someone explain to me the difference from building a control that inherits from user control vs inheriting directly from a stackPanel?
