Hi, I am trying to display a JLabel which has a few lines of text and an image as follows: String html = "<html> hello </br> <img src = \"/absolute/path/here\" height = \"30\" width =\"40\"/> </html>"; JLabel l = new JLabel(html); For the image all I get is a broken image, is it possible to nest img tags inside a JLabel? EDIT: I want to add multiple images to the JLabel so I don't think the use of an ImageIcon will do here. Thanks

How do I add dynamic htmlAttributes to htmlhelper ActionLinks?

In my master page I have a top-level menu that is created using ActionLinks: <ul id="topNav"> <li><%=Html.ActionLink("Home", "Index", "Home")%></li> <li><%=Html.ActionLink("News", "Index", "News")%></li> <li><%=Html.ActionLink("Projects", "Index", "Projects")%></li> <li><%=Html.ActionLink("About", "About", "Home")%></li> <li><%=Html.ActionLink("Contact", "Contact", "Home")%></li> <li><%=Html.ActionLink("Photos", "Photos", "Photos")%></li> </ul> I want to dynamically add a class named "current" to the link that the site is currently pointing to. So, for example, when the site is sitting at the home page, the menu link would render like this: <li><a class="current" href="/">Home</a></li> Do I have to overload the ActionLink method to do this, or create an entirely new HtmlHelper, or is there a better way? I'm fairly new to MVC, so I'm not sure what is the correct way to go about this. Thanks in advance.

Graph navigation problem

I have graph of components and relation between them. User open graph and want to navigate through the graph base on his choice. He start with root node and click expand button which reveal new component that is related to current component. The problem is with when use decide to collapse a node. I have to choose a sub-tree to hide and at same time leave graph in consistent state so that there is no expanded node with missing relation to another node in graph. Now in case of cyclic/loop between component i have difficult of choosing sub-tree. For simplicity i choose the order in which they were expanded. So if a A expand into B and C collapse A will hide the nodes and edge that it has created. Now consider flowing scenario. [-] mean expanded state and [+] mean not yet expanded. A is expanded to reveal B and C. And then B is expanded to reveal D. C is expanded which create a link between C and exiting node D and also create node E. Now user decide to collapse B. Since by order of expansion D is child of B it will collapse and hide D. This leave graph in inconsistent state as C is expanded with edge to D but D is not anymore there if i remove CD edge it will still be inconsistent. If i collapse C. And E is again a cyclic link e.g to B will produce the same problem. /-----B[-]-----\ A[-] D[+] \-----C[-]-----/ \ E[+] So guys any idea how can i solve this problem. User need to navigate through graph and should be able to collapse but i am stuck with problem of cyclic nodes in which case any of node in loop if collapse will leave graph in inconsistent state.

A stupid question regarding google gadgets. How to host a google gadget? How it works?

Hi, I spent 5 hours by checking google gadgets websites and FAQs. maybe I am really stupid. I have no idea how to host a gadget. What I knew from reading the google website: 1, I can write gadget with xml, javascript etc.. 2, gadget can be added to igoogle etc.. 3, google can host the gadget for you. 4, gadget can be hosted at anywhere??? All of the above information doesn't answer my question. For instance, with jQuery or Dojo Toolkit, I can download the javascript framework and use it. With google gadget, I can not find a download link for the framework. Why? Does google provide its framework? If no, why does google website say it can be hosted anywhere? I am totally confused. A download link is nowhere in google-gadget website. A brief explanation or some helpful links are very welcome!! Thanks a lot!!! Please don't blame me if you think this question is too silly.

Has there been a Firefox update recently?

Trying again to ask a PROGRAMMING question because of the over-zealous closing off of what is equally a programming question before allowing the poster to clarify. The latest version of Firefox (v3.6.3) is breaking websites, mine included. I make heavy use of the Infragistic NetAdvantage controls. These, because of their heavy JavaScript reliance and occasional lack of quality control, tend to suffer through browser updates sometimes requiring a hotfix. So the question is... has there been a Firefox release recently that has either introduced a bug, tightening up of some standard, bug fix which might have broken a previous workaround (often the case) etc? I'm guessing around JavaScript but that's a guess hence the reason for asking a group of programmers...

Getting error: "This webpage is not available" for my chrome app's options page

My CRX had the proper html page options.html in it, the manifest declares it properly (it shows up as a link on the chrome://extensions page) but when I click that link, Chrome gives the error: This webpage is not available The webpage at chrome-extension://invalid/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. It says "invalid" but the app runs perfectly well (all the content scripts run, the background created a database and saved to it). Why would it show as invalid? Why doesn't it have the extensions' id? In C# ASP.NET MVC application I use Link to SQL to provide data for my application. I have got simple database schema like this: In my controller class I reference this data context called Model (as you can see on the right side of picture in properties) like this: private Model model = new Model(); I've got a table (List) of Series rendered on my page. It renders properly and I was able to add delete functionality to delete Series like this: public ActionResult Delete(int id) { model.Series.DeleteOnSubmit(model.Series.SingleOrDefault(s => s.ID == id)); model.SubmitChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } Where appropriate action link looks like this: <%: Html.ActionLink("Delete", "Delete", new { id=item.ID })%> Also create (implemented in similar way) works fine. However edit does not work. My edit looks like this: public ActionResult Edit(int id) { return View(model.Series.SingleOrDefault(s => s.ID == id)); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Edit(Series series) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { UpdateModel(series); series.Title = series.Title + " some string to ensure title has changed"; model.SubmitChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Index"); } I have controlled that my database has a primary key set up correctly. I debugged my application and found out that everything works as expected until the line with model.SubmitChanges();. This command does not apply the changes of Title property(or any other) against the database. Please help.

Rails: Ajax: Changes Onload

Hi. I have a web layout of a for that looks something like this <html> <head> </head> <body> <div id="posts"> <div id="post1" class="post" >  </div> <div id="post2" class="post" >  </div>  <div id="post99" class="post" >  </div> </div> </body> </html> I would like to be able to load and render the page with a blank , and then have a function called when the page is loaded which goes in and load up the posts and updates the page dynamically. In Rails, I tried using "link_to_remote" to update with all of the elements. I also tweaked the posts controller to render the collection of posts if it was an ajax request (request.xhr?). It worked fine and very fast. However the update of the blank div is triggered by clicking the link. I would like the same action to happen when the page is loaded so that I don't have to put in a link. Is there a Rails Ajax helper or RJS function or something in Rails that I could use to trigger the loading of the "posts" after the page has loaded and rendered (without the posts)? (If putsch comes to shove, I will just copy the generated JS code from the link_to_remote call and have it called from the onload handler on the body).

If you want, you can describe your co-workers' reaction, how bad your hospital bill was after showing them the code, if you felt disappointed in yourself for coming up with it or proud of yourself for coming up with a creative and clever solution. This doesn't have to be shipped code, this could also be code written for personal purposes.

Problem Linking Boost Filesystem Library in Microsoft Visual C++

Hello. I am having trouble getting my project to link to the Boost (version 1.37.0) Filesystem lib file in Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition. The Filesystem library is not a header-only library. I have been following the Getting Started on Windows guide posted on the official boost web page. Here are the steps I have taken: I used bjam to build the complete set of lib files using: bjam --build-dir="C:\Program Files\boost\build-boost" --toolset=msvc --build-type=complete I copied the /libs directory (located in C:\Program Files\boost\build-boost\boost\bin.v2) to C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0\libs. In Visual C++, under Project Properties Additional Library Directories I added these paths: C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0\libs C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0\libs\filesystem\build\msvc-9.0express\debug\link-static\threading-multi I added the second one out of desperation. It is the exact directory where libboost_system-vc90-mt-gd-1_37.lib resides. In Configuration Properties C/C++ General Additional Include Directories I added the following path: C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_37_0 Then, to put the icing on the cake, under Tools Options VC++ Directories Library files, I added the same directories mentioned in step 3. Despite all this, when I build my project I get the following error: fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_system-vc90-mt-gd-1_37.lib' Additionally, here is the code that I am attempting to compile as well as a screen shot of the aformentioned directory where the (assumedly correct) lib file resides: #include "boost/filesystem.hpp" // includes all needed Boost.Filesystem declarations #include <iostream> // for std::cout using boost::filesystem; // for ease of tutorial presentation; // a namespace alias is preferred practice in real code using namespace std; int main() { cout << "Hello, world!" << endl; return 0; } Can anyone help me out? ajax-based login fails: IE6 and IE7 ajax calls delete session data (session_id however is kept)

Rails date/time picker (hopefully jquery)

Looking for a date and datetime picker that will integrate fairly seamlessly with Rails. I'm sure some people must be using something similar. I have tried the unobtrusive date picker plugin but it breaks with the latest release of Rails. calendar date select plugin uses prototype which I have removed from my app and don't want to add back. active calendar plugin - broken with latest Rails and hacked to fix but doesn't fill out the text fields when a model is loaded. Base Href vs. .htaccess RewriteBase

Normally I use <base href="http://domain.com/" /> I haven't tried much with RewriteBase, I normally get confused and keep changing it till it works. Which method would be best, I obviously find the best solution because the links stay the same so that no links are broken most of the time when attaching a css file, e.g. http://domain.com/css/main.css It just always stay the same when accessing to sub-directories. Although, when I don't use the tag, and I access to a sub directory, it breaks the css links when I use <link href="css/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> As my PHP documents would include the header, <?php include("include/global_header.php"); ?> If I do that without the I would have to use: <link href="../css/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> Which can break when accessing to a sub-directory. So... does the RewriteBase work the same as the ? Your thoughts.

On the other hand, it keeps on writing log messages like this: Jun 8, 2010 9:53:30 PM org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext log SEVERE: Error writing messages ClientAbortException: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe I actually wanted to suppress all log messages from this class, as they flood my logfile, and the error is irrelevant for me. So why is the following line ignored? org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.level = OFF Is there any other way to suppress the log output of this class?

Abusing the word "library"

I see a lot of questions, both here on SO and elsewhere, about "maintaining common libraries in a VCS". That is, projects foo and bar both depend on libbaz, and the questioner is wondering how they should import the source for libbaz into the VCS for each project. My question is: WTF? If libbaz is a library, then foo doesn't need its source code at all. There are some libraries that are reasonably designed to be used in this manner (eg gnulib), but for the most part foo and bar ought to just link against the library. I guess my thinking is: if you cut-and-paste source for a library into your own source tree, then you obviously don't care about future updates to the library. If you care about updates, then just link against the library and trust the library maintainers to maintain a stable API. If you don't trust the API to remain stable, then you can't blindly update your own copy of the source anyway, so what is gained? To summarize the question: why would anyone want to maintain a copy of a library in the source code for a project rather than just linking against that library and requiring it as a dependency? If the only answer is "don't want the dependency", then why not just distribute a copy of the library along with your app, but keep them totally separate?

Let's says I have a classifieds site which has a URL structure similar to the one which I have listed below: Ex. http://takarat.com/openclassifieds/?category=iphone&location=tennessee This is what shows up when I click "tennessee" as the location and then click on "iphone" as the category. Now let's say this site has a search box and I wanted a URL which comes up after using this search box to show up as opposed to the previous URL. Let's say that whenever I search for the word "iphone" while WITHIN the iphone CATEGORY the following link shows up: Iphone SEARCH Ex. http://takarat.com/openclassifieds/?s=iphone&category=iphone&location=tennessee Ok, I want THAT iphone SEARCH to come up whenever anyone clicks Tennessee Iphone..How would I do this [by the way, I want this to be dynamic so that I can use the code for different combinations of locations and products etc..I want the code to use the CATEGORY name to conduct the search basically]? I believe that this will involve "Passing varibles" from the original link... I am new to programming so I may have my terminology wrong. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Prevent illegal behavior to the registered user

I am building a website in which this website will be focused on the publishing of novels. Every writers who publish their novels with us will get a royalty from us. And this royalty comes from the user or the reader who read the novel online in our website. When a user search for a novel and want to read that, they will click a link to the page which its content is that novel. The html page for each novels will have a session function that first will force them to login or register to make a payment such as with a credit-card or paypal before accessing that html page. My problem now is if the user has succesfully login and access the html page, I am afraid if the user will copy the content of the novel. Some disccussion out here How to Disable Copy Paste (Browser) have a solution to create it in Flash so that it can't be coppied-paste. But the I think, if the user who access it is a web developer like us they will try to find the path of the file from the link in the page source, and then they can steal it. For now I think it is enough I am explaining this. I hope anyone fully accept this problem (question) with a good idea to solve it.

Code Formatter: cleaning up horribly formatted jsp code

So I am working on a jsp/servlet that came to me and I'm looking at the jsp file and it is just a jungle of jstl tags, java code and html thrown together. At first it looked like someone ran the standard eclipse formatter on it and had the page width set to 40 so alot of stuff is broken up, I tried to format it with a larger page width but that seemed to make it worse to the point of not being able to tell what is going on without formatting parts of it first. Anyone have any luck with any jsp/code formatter?

Hi there, Im trying to use JS to send data to my Flash AS2.0 music player with ExternalInterface, except there are no good tutorials or guides on ExternalInterface that I can find. I want to be able to change the current song in the player by clicking a JavaScript link, and on page / window load without clicking, play a default song. I dont need a super complicated answer on loading sounds in flash, etc., I am just having a lot of difficulties getting JS to send anything to Flash, and when I get that to work - would I need to put some if / else into the flash to determine if the link has been clicked or not? SEO on a Database Driven Website

I have a question about a site I'm developing. It is a database driven directory site where people can make a profile and list themselves in one or many area codes and in one or many fields of work. When someone is looking for a person to hire, they enter one or more area codes to look in (or select them with checkboxes) and when the form submits, it saves these as a cookie so the site remembers what location you were searching in. You then narrow down your search by category and field (which are links) and get a listing of all the profiles that match your search. What I am concerned about is this: because a search engine can't type in or select area codes to search in, how is it going to find and index any of the profile pages? It doesn't allow the user to search for people without first selecting an area code, because there's no practical purpose to do so. There would also be no practical purpose from a user experience/usability standpoint of simply having a list of each area code as a link to the categories page, but as far as I know, isn't that the only way for search engines to see every person? How does a site like Facebook accomplish this?
