  • Windows 7 64bit keyboard issues

    I have a Pavilion dv4 notebook running Windows 7 64bit Enterprise edition. This morning I started to notice some really strange behavior in how it handled its built-in keyboard. At random intervals there will be a long delay in key presses, to which some keys will never show and other keys will continue to repeat until you hit the backspace. Other keys get mapped incorrectly to other keys. If I hook up an external keyboard the problem does not appear. Before I reformat the machine and do a fresh install, I thought I would check here to see if anyone has experienced this same issue and if so, how did you fix it?

  • Is the iPhone/iPad delete "badge" available via the SDK?

I would like to put a "delete" badge in the upper left corner of each thumbnail like the one you see either when deleting apps from the iphone/ipad home screen. It is typically a black circle with an 'X' inside. Is this a badge or image file made available somehow through the SDK? //Scott

  • Installing ubuntu server as linux distro on dell server - what drivers will be missed

    Dell (via USC) unpacks specific drivers for both RedHat and Suse to use after installation on its servers. As Ubuntu server isn't officially supported, this clearly isn't happening for Ubuntu. Is Ubuntu server then running with native drivers? In that case, which drivers are native with Ubuntu, and aren't (e.g. are Dell replaced) with RedHat/Suse? Are dell optimized drivers available for Ubuntu somewhere? Can the ones for RedHat or Suse be used with Ubuntu? Are there disadvantages of this lack of fine-tuned drivers, and if yes, what are they? Would they make the switch (and extra costs, as both RedHat and Suse Enterprise aren't cheap) away from the free Ubuntu server worthwhile? Dell recommends Canonical's commercial support for Ubuntu server on its machines, is this recommendable? Do they offer fine-tuned Dell drivers to replace native drivers?

  • Cross-domain iframe communication in Opera

    Hi, I have need to communicate between two iframes of the same domain, which live inside a parent page on a different domain that I have no control over. This is a Facebook app and the basic layout is this apps.facebook.com/myapp L iframe1 (src='mysite.com/foo') L iframe2 (src='mysite.com/bar') I need frame1 to talk to frame2, but in Opera I can't access window.parent.frames['frame2'] to do the usual cross-domain methods (updating location.hash for example) Is there an alternate way to accomplish this in Opera?     I installed a local version of Laconica microblogging in my env. Then I downlowaded SPAZ (an AIR client) to try and talk to the Laconica app. I get an authenitcation error. I have put in the appropriate credentials - I think :) But I think that I have to alter the API and base URL for connecting. Ayone have any thoughts on how to make these two apps talk ?     Hi - how do I push server alerts to tray apps in java without using xmpp or other heavy protocols? Do you recommend a way to accomplish this? I was planning to write an app which uses URLConnection on a server equipped with Comet but I doubt if that would work as the client requires a JS to be invoked and URLConnection is not a browser.. What is the best way to push instead of using a proprietary client-server approach?

    I have never spent much time debugging multithreaded .NET apps (or others), and have quite a simple one to solve very quickly. Ideally I would imagined and would lurve to be able to intercept thread creation and use by worker objects, so that nothing unexpected happens while I'm on a breakpoint in my thread. Is that realistic? What else is there in VS 2010?

    Hey, I want to know if there's a few folks out there with experience in using admob for iphone apps. I've just started using it and have a problem. When I close an in app ad the actual ad itself has moved up 40 pixels and is mostly hidden behind the navigation bar. In addition all of my own content is shifted up 40 pixels. The addmob documentation is very limited so not much help there sadly.

    On a Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit laptop joined to a corporate domain, the Windows Firewall is disabled by a global policy. Is there any way to enable the Windows Firewall in this scenario? The gpedit.msc setting Windows Firewall: Protect all network connections is inaccessible. EDIT: It appears that changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\gpsvc\Start value to 4 will disable the GPO and allow you to start the firewall and stop the bots from pushing cr*p to your computer... will check on Monday and if it works I'll confirm here in case someone else in my situation wonders upon this question... EDIT: It's probably better if I write a mock windows service not doing anything and name it according to what is expected to be on my box and than crete mock McCrappy executable and mock McCrappy folder structure and remove all the actual stuff... That would take a little time but would most certainly make my box completely stealthy...

    It's trivial to make a program executable from shell - just put #!/usr/bin/ruby on top, chmod +x it and done. Unfortunately OSX won't let me associate file type with such scripts - it requires its .apps instead. This sort of distinction doesn't seem to exist on other operating systems. What's the simplest way of making such .app, which would merely execute some arbitrary Ruby code?

    This error is happening to 6 out of 32 computers. I have created a base image from scratch using Ghost Enterprise, but error still shows on the same machines. It happens at the log on prompt and after doing a soft reset the message goes away, but it comes back eventually. -Error message- The Instruction at "0X74eF400e" referenced Memory at "0X00000000" The memory could not be "Written". Winlogon.exe - Application Error Any reason why this is happening? I have tried to run a memTest but everything shows okay.

  • Is there a way to undo deletion of registry keys while the machine is still running?

    [ also posted from a programmer's POV at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3299230 ] I messed up big time and deleted a large portion of my registry during a programming experiment: As a result most of the contents of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ are gone. I haven't logged off or shutdown since this happened. The applications that were already running seem to be coping fine so far but I suspect that after the next reboot there won't be much happiness left... Also, System Restore tells me there are no restore points even though I'm pretty sure there should have been. Could this be another symptom of the purged registry? I wouldn't have expected this information to be stored under HKCU, though... Does anybody know of a technique or utility that can possibly restore some or all of the deleted entries? I'm on Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit. I'm not really holding my breath but you can always hope, can't you?

Each application runs fine and I can link between apps using absolute URLs. Is there some way I can use or extend the URL helper class (functions like anchor(), redirect()... etc.) to generate links to controllers across applications.     I've noticed certain radio apps, that some stations required wifi and others did not. What were those other stations possibly using? Are there other methods of streaming audio on iOS? Apparently, I was not clear in my question before. I'm asking in terms of API's. Is there an API to interact directly with say, FM radio, on iOS? Is wifi the only way of streaming audio?
