  • Looking for a simple alternative to Thread.Sleep

    HI, During the development of my app, I was using Thread.Sleep to give our external devices some time to adjust to settings before making queries, as they are quite old and slow. I now want to replace these with something a bit more stylish and correct. Does anyone have a simple way to "wait" for a device rather than sleep, bearing in mind the device does not let us know when it is ready, so a wait is about as good as we can do !?? Regards, George.

  • Google App Engine dev_appserver can't find PIL (I've installed it)

    I recently upgraded my Google App Engine launcher on my Mac, running OSX 10.5.8, and afterwards my projects that work with images stopped working locally. It seems to be the same problem that I had when first using GAE locally to work with images, before I installed PIL. Here is the error I get: SystemError: Parent module 'PIL' not loaded I have PIL installed. When I run python normally, I can access it and work with it as expected. I also checked to ensure that dev_appserver.py was running the same version of Python. If I open the interpreter and type sys.version I get this back: 2.5 (r25:51918, Sep 19 2006, 08:49:13) [GCC 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5341)] This is identical to what I get when I display the sys.version from my projects running through dev_appserver. Any thoughts on why dev_appserver can't find the PIL module? I have been banging my head against this for a bit. Thank you!

    Hi, I'd like to have loglevel TRACE (5) for my application as I don't think that debug() is enought. Additionally log(5, msg) isn't what I want. The question is, how can I add a custom log level to a Python logger?     Say that python package A requires B, C and D; is there a way to list A → B C D without loading them ? Requires in the metadata (yolk -M A) are often incomplete, grr. One can download A.tar / A.egg, then look through A/setup.py, but some of those are pretty gory. (I'd have thought that getting at least first-level dependencies could be mechanized; even a 98 % solution would be better than avalanching downloads.) A related question: pip-upgrade-package-without-upgrading-dependencies

  • How do I write raw binary data in Python?

    I've got a Python program that stores and writes data to a file. The data is raw binary data, stored internally as str. I'm writing it out through a utf-8 codec. However, I get UnicodeDecodeError: 'charmap' codec can't decode byte 0x8d in position 25: character maps to <undefined> in the cp1252.py file. This looks to me like Python is trying to interpret the data using the default code page. But it doesn't have a default code page. That's why I'm using str, not unicode. I guess my questions are: How do I represent raw binary data in memory, in Python? When I'm writing raw binary data out through a codec, how do I encode/unencode it?

  • Is there any way to notify IE about changes done in registry via code?

    Hi, I have done changes in registry (proxy settings) via Windows programming code. I have to restart (reopen) Internet Explorer each time I run the code to make those changes take effect. Is there any API in Windows programming through which I can notify Internet Explorer or Windows that changes are made to the registry and there will not be any need to reopen Internet Explorer to make those changes take effect?   • Porting library from Java to Python

    I'm about to port a smallish library from Java to Python and wanted some advice (smallish ~ a few thousand lines of code). I've studied the Java code a little, and noticed some design patterns that are common in both languages. However, there were definitely some Java-only idioms (singletons, etc) present that are generally not-well-received in Python-world. I know at least one tool (j2py) exists that will turn a .java file into a .py file by walking the AST. Some initial experimentation yielded less than favorable results. Should I even be considering using an automated tool to generate some code, or are the languages different enough that any tool would create enough re-work to have justified writing from scratch? If tools aren't the devil, are there any besides j2py that can at least handle same-project import management? I don't expect any tool to match 3rd party libraries from one language to a substitute in another.

  • Sending Gmail from Local Host

    I'm using the Acquia stack on my localhost (running Vista) and am trying unsuccessfully to send emails. I want to send them via Gmail, and have tried all sorts of settings in the php.ini file. There are no error messages, but no email is delivered. I've gotten no response on the Acquia forum, so I was hoping someone here might be able to help. Thanks very much.

  • What is __path__ useful for?

    I had never noticed the __path__ attribute that gets defined on some of my packages before today. According to the documentation: Packages support one more special attribute, __path__. This is initialized to be a list containing the name of the directory holding the package’s __init__.py before the code in that file is executed. This variable can be modified; doing so affects future searches for modules and subpackages contained in the package. While this feature is not often needed, it can be used to extend the set of modules found in a package. Could somebody explain to me what exactly this means and why I would ever want to use it?

The ‘Open with Explorer’ tool bar is enabled, but I get the error: \siteurl\DavWWWRoot\document is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. Is the 'Open with Explorer' option available with FBA? If yes, what are the missing settings?

    Hi, When I use this to write to my app.config file: Configuration config =ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(ConfigurationUserLevel.None); config.AppSettings.Settings["Wachtwoord"].Value = "Test"; config.Save(); ConfigurationManager.RefreshSection("appSettings"); I can read it again. But when i close and restart the program, the value of "Wachtwoord" has changed again to the old value. Does anybody how I could fix this? Thanks

  • I wrote a new X11 keyboard layout file, how do I get my system to recognize it?

    I like to configure my keys my way, so I wrote a keyboard symbols file and I put it in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/cat I use it by running setxkbmap cat -variant dvorak (and it works), but it doesn't show up in the console configuration (dpkg-reconfigure console-setup) nor in the Gnome keyboard settings... nor anywhere else, so I have to run setxkbmap every time. I suppose that I have to register it somewhere, but where? Any hints? Thanks!

    Hi all, I have Article model and a Comment model. Comment is created in admin.py as admin.StackedInline, and it has several fields, notably content and lastUpdate. For lastUpdate, i have specified as follows: lastUpdate = models.DateTimeField('last update', auto_now=True). Understandably, lastUpdate is not displayed when i try to add new comment (or edit old ones). However, i would like it to display for older comments if possible, as a read only thing.   • Utilizing multiple python projects

    Hi I have a python app, that I'm developing. There is a need to use another library, that resides in different directory. The file layout looks like this: dir X has two project dirs: current-project xLibrary I'd like to use xLibrary in currentProject. I've been trying writting code as if all the sources resided in the same directory and calling my projects main script with: PYTHONPATH=.:../xLibrary ./current-project.py but this does not work. I'd like to use its code base without installing the library globaly or copying it to my project's directory. Is it possible? Or if not, how should I deal with this problem.
