    As part of Tuxedo 11gR1 release, we introduced Oracle Tuxedo JCA Adapter. Tuxedo JCA Adapter is based JCA 1.5 specification and should be deployable on any JCA 1.5 compliant application server. I am saying "should" as we have tested Tuxedo JCA Adapter with WebLogic Server, IBM WebSphere and RedHat JBoss only. This adapter provides bi-directional service invocation and transaction and security context propagation from app server to Tuxedo. Basically Tuxedo JCA Adapter provides similar functionality to WebLogic Tuxedo Connector (WTC), if you are already familiar with it. One question we often receive is whether Tuxedo JCA Adapter 11g will interoperate with Tuxedo versions prior to 11g. Answer to this question is yes. Tuxedo JCA Adapter uses Tuxedo domains protocol, is deployed on application server and can interoperate with any current Tuxedo version, starting from version 8.1 and above.   • Python HTTPS requests (urllib2) fails on Ubuntu 12.04 without proxy

    I have an little app I wrote in Python and it used to work... until yesterday, when it suddenly started giving me an error in a HTTPS connection. I don't remember if there was an update, but both Python 2.7.3rc2 and Python 3.2 are failing just the same. I googled it and found out that this happens when people are behind a proxy, but I'm not (and nothing have changed in my network since the last time it worked).     How would you define a testable measure of the expertise that, if you're honest with yourself, lets you write in your CV words "Oracle", "Sybase", or "SQL Server" and not just "Relational Databases, SQL, JDBC" in your software developer's CV? What every XXX-developer (XXX - a vendor name) should know? Below is a start of the list as an example, demonstrate what kind of answers I am hoping to get.   • GPLv2 - Multiple AI chess engines to bypass GPL

    I have gone through a number of GPL-related questions, the most recent being this one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3248823/legal-question-about-the-gpl-license-net-dlls/3249001#3249001 I'm trying to see how this would work, so bear with me. I have a simple GUI interface for a game of Chess. It essentially can send/receive commands to/from an external chess engine (ie: Tong, Fruit, etc). The application/GUI is similar in nature to XBoard ( http://www.gnu.org/software/xboard/ ), but was independently designed. After going through a number of threads on this topic, it seems that the FSF considers dynamically linking against a GPLv2 library as a derivative work, and that by doing so, the GPLv2 extends to my proprietary code, and I must release the source to my entire project. Other legal precedents indicate the opposite, and that dynamic linking doesn't cause the "viral" effect of the GPL to propagate to my proprietary code. Since there is no official consensus that can give a "hard-and-fast" answer to the dynamic linking question, would this be an acceptable alternative: I build my chess GUI so that it sends/receives the chess engine AI logic as text commands from an external interface library that I write The interface library I wrote itself is then released under the GPL The interface library is only used to communicate via a generic text pipe to external command-line chess engines The chess engine itself would be built as a command-line utility rather than as a library of any sort, and just sends strings in the Universal Chess Interface of Chess Engine Communication Protocol ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_Engine_Communication_Protocol ) format. The one "gotcha" is that the interface library should not be specific to one single GPL'ed chess engine, otherwise the entire GUI would be "entirely dependent" on it. So, I just make my interface library so that it is able to connect to any command-line chess engine that uses a specific format, rather than just one unique engine. I could then include pre-built command-line-app versions of any of the chess engines I'm using. Would that sort of approach allow me to do the following: NOT release the source for my UI Release the source of the interface library I built (if necessary) Use one or more chess engines and bundle them as external command-line utilities that ship with a binary version of my UI Thank you.

  • Google Analytics setting cookies on static content despite being on entirely separate domain

    I recently decided to comply with the YSlow recommendation that static content is hosted on a cookieless domain. As I already use the root of my domain (donaldjenkins.com) to host my website—on which Google Analytics sets a few cookies—that meant I had to move the CNAME URL for the CDN serving the static files from cdn.donaldjenkins.com to an entirely separate, dedicated domain. I purchased cdn.dj (yes, it's a real Djibouti domain name), hosted the files on the root (which contains nothing else, other than a robots.txt file) and set a CNAME of e.cdn.dj for the CDN. This setup works, but I was rather surprised to find that YSlow was still flagging the static files for not being cookie-free: here's a screenshot: The cdn.djdomain was new, and was never used for anything other than hosting these static files. Running httpfox on the site shows the _utma and _utmz Google Analytics cookies are being set on the static files listed above—despite their being hosted on an entirely separate, dedicated domain. Be it plain old SQL, DAO, ADO, ADO.Net and I am just referring to religions in MSFT world. A peek outside and I’d need a separate book to list out the Data faiths. Various application areas in networked computing are converging under the HTTP umbrella with a plausible transition to purist HTTP and in turn REST fuelled by the Web2.0 storm. It was time the Data access faiths also gave up the religious silos wrapped around our long worshipped data publishing and access methods. OData is the secular solution we have at hand today. It is an open protocol for sharing data. It can be exposed via REST. It is Open as in the Microsoft Open Specification Promise. This allows virtually everyone to build Data Services for any runtime. OData is one of the key standards for Data publishing/subscribing on Microsoft Codename Dallas. For us .Netters OData data sources can be exposed/consumed via WCF Data Services and the process is very simple, elegant and intuitive.   • ODI - Creating a Repository in a 12c Pluggable Database

    To install ODI 11g into an Oracle 12c pluggable database, one way is to connect using a TNS string to the pluggable database service that is executing. For example when I installed my master repository, I used a JDBC URL such as; jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=mydbserver)(PORT=1522)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=PDBORA12.US.ORACLE.COM)))   I used the above approach rather than the host:port:sid which is a common mechanism many users use to quickly get up and going. Below you can see the repository creation wizard in action, I used the 11g release and simply installed the master and work repository into my pluggable database. Be wise with your repository IDs, I simply used the default, but you should be aware that these are key in larger deployments. The database in 12c has much more tighter control on users and resources, so just getting the user creating with sufficient resource on tablespaces etc in 12c was a little more work. Once you have the repositories up and running, then the fun starts using the 12c features. More to come.

  • How to have other divs with a flash liquid layout that fits to the page?

    Basically the majority of my content is flash based. I designed it using Flash Builder (Flex) and Its in a liquid layout, (everything is in percents) and if im JUST embedding the flash content it scales to the page fine, and i have the flash content set to have a padding of 50 px. I put a header div in fine with no problems, but I have 2 problems, the first being the footer div seems to cover up the buttom of the flash content in IE, but it looks just fine in chrome. How can I solve this? I'm using the stock embed code that Flex provides, I tried to edit the css style for the div which I think is #flashContent and give it a min width and min height but it didnt seem to work, actually anything I did to #flashContent didn't seem to do anything, maybe its not the div i need to be adding that attribute to... And my other problem is I dont even know where to start when it comes to placing a div thats 280width by 600height colum to the right side of the flash content. If i could specify a size for the flash content, and the float it left, and float the colum right, and clear it with the container div id be just fine....But remember the flash content is set to 100% Scale (well techically 100%x80% because it looked better that way). Does anyone know how I can start to deal with creating a more complex scaleable flash layouts that includes other divs? ALL WELL MAINTAINING IE SUPPORT? IE is ruining my life.     TRADACOMS is an initial standard for EDI. Predominantly used in the retail sector of United Kingdom. This is similar to EDIFACT messaging system, involving ecs file for translation and validation of messages. The slight difference between EDIFACT and TRADACOMS is, 1. TRADACOMS is a simpler version than EDIFACT 2. There is no Functional Acknowledgment in TRADACOMS 3. Since it is just a business message to be sent to the trading partner, the various reference numbers at STX, BAT, MHD level need not be persisted in B2B as there is no Business logic gets derived out of this. Considering this, in AS11 B2B, this can be handled out of the box using Positional Flat file document plugin. Since STX, BAT segments which define the envelope details , and part of transaction, has to be sent from the back end application itself as there is no Document protocol parameters defined in B2B. These would include some of the identifiers like SenderCode, SenderName, RecipientCode, RecipientName, reference numbers. Additionally the batching in this case be achieved by sending all the messages of a batch in a single xml from backend application, containing total number of messages in Batch as part of EOB (Batch trailer )segment. In the case of inbound scenario, we can identify the document based on start position and end position of the incoming document.   • Why is HTML/Javascript minification beneficial

    Why is HTML/Javascript minification beneficial when the HTTP protocol already supports gzip data compression? I realize that Javascript/HTML minification has the potential to significantly reduce the size of Javascript/HTML files by removing unnecessary whitespace, and perhaps renaming variables to a few letters each, but doesn't the LZW algorithm do especially well when there are many repeated characters (e.g. lots of whitespace?) I realize that some Javascript minification tools do more than just reduce size. Google's closure compiler, for example, also tries to improve code performance by inlining functions and doing other analyses. But the primary purpose of Javascript minification is usually to reduce file size. I also realize there are other reasons you might want to minify aside from performace, such as code obfuscation. But again, that reason is not usually emphasized as much as performance gain and file size reduction. For example, Closure Compiler is not advertised as an obfuscation tool, but as a code size reducer and download-speed enhancer. So, how much performance do you really gain from Javascript/HTML minification when you're already significantly reducing file size with gzip compression?

  • Windows expand over 2 monitors in quad-monitor setup

    i just installed ubuntu 11.10 with my previous hardware setup: 4 monitors and 2 identical nvidia graphic cards. draging windows around all 4 monitors works nice, but when i maximize a window it expand always over 2 screens.   • Explaining the difference between OData & RDF by way of analogy

    A couple of months back I wrote a blog post entitled Microsoft, OData and RDF where I gave a high level view of the OData protocol and how it compares to RDF. I talked about linked data, triples and such like which may have been somewhat useful however jargon-heavy. Earlier today Dr Michael Hausenblas (blog | twitter) offered an analogy which I think is probably more useful and with Michael's permission I'm re-posting it here:Imagine a Web (a Web of Documents, if you wish), which is not based on HTML and hyperlinks, but on MS Word documents. The documents are all available on the Internet, so you can download them and consume the content. But after you’re done with a certain document that talks about a book, how do you learn more about it? For example, reviews about the book or where you can purchase it? Maybe the original document mentions that there is some more related information on another server. So you’d need to go there and look for the related bit of information yourself. You see? That’s what the Web is great at – you just click on a hyperlink and it takes you to the document (or section) you’re interested in. All the legwork is taken care of for you through HTML, URIs and HTTP.Hm, right, but how is this related to OData? Well, OData feels a bit like the above mentioned scenario, just concerning data.     I used to start the game,Frozen Throne (using wine) with the option of "-opengl".When I entered the game,the resolution will changed,and restored after exit the game. But this time a problem happened.The resolution can't restore although I restart my computer several times.   • Web2.0, AJAX, HTML5, Facebook, Social web, openid, Oauth, web browsers... where is all this going ?

    We have seen many new things appear in the last 7 or 5 five years on the web: Facebook, html5 appeared, new browsers grew strongly, Google failed with Wave... Since Facebook and other stuff like Gtalk and Gmail, I thought and hoped that forums, chat, mail, usenet, conversation rooms and p2p protocols could inter operate to allow the user to use all those services transparently. Of course I realized that things are far much complicated, for several reasons: the IETF cannot invent new things: they just propose standards. Microsoft as well as big players often are obstacles to relevant innovation regarding open formats. The biggest stories being document formats or internet explorer with its long reaction to support web standards. Smartphones, thanks to the appearances of OSes such as iOS and Android, are finally able to navigate on internet: former devices were deaf, they weren't directly connected to internet. The mail protocol were left unchanged even with the grow of spam and malwares. I don't know what to think, because I think there is still a lot to do, but I feel like it will never happen or that nobody seems interested in those basic text transmit features... So what do you think what are the next big steps in the evolution of the web ? Do you think is will still walk hand in hand with open source ?
